Hi, I'm running stock android currently. A friend tried to transfer an epub file to me over bluetooth after the devices were paired - but my nexus 5 could not receive it at all. I asked some other friends with different android devices to do that, but the same issue persisted. On the other hand, I am able to transfer epub files to other devices just fine. Just to make sure this issue was not limited to my phone, I tried to transfer an epub file to another nexus 5 and it said 'cannot transfer this type of file'. Any thoughts on this issue? Thanks.
Is this for copyright reasons to prevent people sharing epubs?

Try changing the file extention to ".bat", transfer it, and change it back to ".epub" or whatever it is.

Thanks - I will try that as a workaround, but is there anything that I can do to avoid the workaround at all? I'll also have to check if my file explorer allows me to change file extensions.

If the problem turns out, in fact, to be DRM, then this will be the only way. Have you tried to transfer other types of files?

Possible, but do they have any official statement on this? Surprising that other OEMs allow it, but stock android does not.

Is it an update in Android 4.4?

I don't think sending apk files works either

Not really sure - since I'm coming from ICS (didn't have an android for a year) and had a Samsung phone which allowed it.

Like title, is possible to block ads in Nexus 5? I try AdAway and it didn't work..
Ad away works here just fine. Blocking ads in apps and websites. Make sure that you're using the 2.8 Version. It may have a error on the first time you apply it but do it again and the problem will go away.

Try "Forget" permissions in SuperSu and apply AdAway to host files again.

You can also try adblock plus. No root required.

It's not working. It may need to be updated, but i'm not seeing anything mentioned on their forum or blog yet.
I keep getting stuck on it when it tries to apply the host files. Not sure what the issue is.
Edit: Got it to work now. Preciate' the tips previously posted.

Working here
Mother of all AD Blocking
I have been using the "Mother of all AD Blocking" from here and have been very satisfied. AFAIK it only modifies the hosts file and doesn't have any process running that uses battery.
It's got a web server running... Has to be using some battery.

This is misleading at best. AdAway does have a service, but it's disabled by default and not required at all.
This is the error I'm getting when trying to install some apks. A lot of others worked but some just won't. It's a new phone and a fresh ROM. Why is this happening? What do I do about it?

One of the apps which did it was Battery Widget Reborn. I initially tried installing it via .apk and got the error. Then the same app normally installed via Play store.

Not trying to be snarky, but what good is a smartphone without internet access? Sounds like a $400 paperweight. Are you running a virus scanner that could possibly be blocking sideloading?

Download file manager. Enable root in settings. Try pushing it to system/app. Restart and see if it works then

I'm having a similar issue. I've been using a slingplayer app that I downloaded over two years ago. I had it working on my Nexus 5 until I switched to ART. After the switch it wouldn't install. I switched back to Dalvik and now it won't reinstall. I can and have installed every other apk on my phone with no problem since switching back except for this one. Any suggestions?

Tried that and it didn't work, but...
PROBLEM SOLVED! What I did was to do a thorough search inside my root to find anything related to the app I was trying to install. I found out that the app has somewhat partially installed in few places. I then deleted all of those and tried installing again. Worked.

I also tried switching between Dalvik and ART but it didn't seem to change anything. I suggest you search your root for any remnants of the app you want to install. Look in data/app, data/app-lib, data/data and system/app.
Okay so by now everyone here should know that Google just released its Google Camera app on Play Store (gosh I guess I won't see Nexus 10 mk2 afterall)
But I have a big problem with it. I have Nexus 5 Cyanogenmod11 snapshot m5 and camera crashes on launching HDR+ every single time. I had similar problem app pulled from stock nexus 5 (can be found everywhere on the net) - it acted the same although that one needed app data wipe to even launch again. Is cyanogen missing some libraries for camera or something like that?
How can I make it work?
Is there a way to see a detailed crash log and fix the problem?
Anyone envountered similar issue?

Just install it ? It installed fine on my Nexus 5.
Try this...
You might need to change your tablet's security settings before the download will work.
Go to "Settings" and then "Security", and check the box that says "Unknown Sources" (or leave it checked if it's already checked).
Then use the internet browser on your nexus to go to the site you posted with the link to download, and click download.
Wait for the download to finish, it should notify you in your notifications bar when it's done. Then tap the notification to open the file, and it should walk you through the installation from there.
Hope that helps!

Sometimes if you buy a cheap tablet from China it's a clone device and doesn't have the Google certificate that makes it come with Play Store and other Google apps already installed. Or if it was second hand, the previous owner could have rooted it, and you'd need to download the Play Store APK file to get it on there.
FWIW, the latest version just came out a few days ago, Play Store APK 5.7.10
