Hi guys, I have this problem for about a month now.
Gmail is not auto syncing my emails, I have to manually get them. I checked all settings and they should be alright. Sync 30 days, notifications, label sync and notifications.
Initially I though it was a ROM problem, however I got push notifications from whatsapp and other apps. Then I decided to add my google gmail to the Outlook app. In the Outlook app I do get push notifications which indicates that sync works as it should.
Alternately, I also tried the google inbox app, and to my surprise this apps has issues as well retrieving emails.
Does not work: Inbox and Gmail
Works: Outlook
Where does this bring me? Maybe a issue with Google Play services? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

One reason might be lack of space on your phone. Else, you might want to disable and enable the Gmail app on your phone. Sometimes, this works. Alternatively you could remove this particular ID and re-add the google account to see if it works.
if you have adaway, it can bloock googe services - check it out.
and if outlook work, why not using it or any alternative client for gmail?

Hello,
This is my first Android phone after using the iPhone. I added all my Gmail accounts to the email app from Samsung, and I'm still not getting push email. It's set at IMAP and everything. Do I need to set it up as an exchange account?
Thanks.
you need to use the gmail app for gmail to push as far as i know If you only use Gmail, you can remove the email app from that bottom dock by going to the applications screen and hitting menu there is a setting to arrange via grid and then rearrange apps and you can drag the gmail app down there and remove the email app

Thanks for the quick reply. That slightly is disappointing since the Samsung email app has an universal inbox where as the Gmail email app doesn't. Is there an app that would help with this issue if I were to root the phone?
I apologize in advanced if I sound stupid or don't make any sense. I'm still checking up with all the Android lingo
How would I go about adding a non gmail and a non exchange account? Would the Gmail app support that? Or would I have to use the Samsung email app for that?
Thanks.

The Gmail app only supports gmail accounts I believe. You either have to use the Samsung email app or forward your emails from your other accounts to gmail.
Another suggestion is to use K-9 Mail. I have my Gmail, AOL, and Hotmail accounts added to the K-9 Mail and Gmail and AOL both give me push emails and I have Hotmail set up for polling every hour.
K-9 seems to be the best alternative because I didn't want to forward all my emails to Gmail and the Samsung email app wasn't pushing my emails like I wanted.
If the samsung email app supports exchange active sync, you can use it to get gmail and it'll push. Gmail now fully supports active sync. I had my iphone set up that way and I got push emails from Gmail no problem.
The Google Gmail website shows you how to set up Gmail as if it were an exchange active sync account. Its really simple and worked great for me for over a year. I have the Captivate now and only use the Gmail app, but I only have one Gmail account, not multiple ones like the OP.

That's exactly what I'm looking. That works out perfect. Thanks again! And if I ever want to sync my contacts and calendar with Gmail, I can always turn off sync for mail but keep sync active for contacts and calendar.
Thanks again.
Hi there,
I have been searching for a definitive answer but haven't had a luck so far. Hoping someone from here could give me an answer.
Below are few things I have noticed which happen on my phone:
1) Emails powered by Google Apps services for my domain don't work on Stock Email App on GS2 - keeps loading but nothing loads. Is there a fix for this? Is this a known issue?
2) Generic email accounts such as hotmail or gmail, when setup using stock Email app and exchange method use alot of battery and data although there is only exchange of few emails without attachment. Is there a fix for this? Is this a known issue?
3) I also sync my google calendar via exchange app, could that be causing battery drain?
I read somewhere on google, where they are saying people shouldn't use Google Sync Method (exchange method) for gmail or gmail powered email accounts as google does no longer supports gmail on Google Sync, you have to use the Gmail App. I don't know how much of this is true but this all was working fine on my Gingerbread 2.3.4
Please let me know thanks.
Vin
Is anyone else having problems with inbox? Since yesterday I changed to outlook.com and reseted my phone, but i'm not receiving anything from the Inbox folder. Any other folder is ok. If I set a rule to move all new mails to another folder, I receive it normally in my WP (still, even after receiving the email, I got no notification in lockscreen. Just tile).
Anyone else?
Im in same boat.

Assuming you have Twitter account added to your WP, try this:
1. Delete Twitter from Email + Accounts list
2. Reboot phone
3. Sync mail
You should see your mail again. I was also able to add Twitter back to my list without losing the sync.
Calendars
I haven't changed my Hotmail/Windows Live email address to the Outlook.com but I did change to the new 'Outlook' style before switching back to the classic style.
I don't know if it's connected but my Windows Phone is only displaying my Facebook calendar. The default Hotmail calendar is in the settings but is not displaying. And my other calendars aren't even in the settings.
How do I get back all my calendars :-S ?
EDIT: Editing the linked Twitter account seemed to fix the problem.
I don't know if re-adding the Twitter a/c will cause the problem to reoccur.

I've also seen this work for other users if they remove their LinkinIn account, re-sync, and re-add the LinkedIn account. This has also been reported as a viable workaround for @msn and @live mail accounts as well.
Does anyone know if migrating from hotmail to outlook will enable flag email function in windows phone? afaik hotmail doesn't have flag option in windows phone but outlook does.
I just can't get the mail app to sync. So the live tile has never shown anything, and it is on. It just never syncs! I have to check mail from my phone or open the gmail in the desktop browser. This is bad as this is my only computer.
Have you turned off notifications for mail somehow? Charms-Settings-Change PC settings-Notifications?

no, I just checked again. They are on.
Do you use any mail accounts other than Gmail? If so, and those aren't working either, then there's some other problem.
However, if it's just Gmail, you can think Google for that. They disabled adding new devices using Exchange ActiveSync connections to Gmail a few weeks ago. Feel free to write them a nasty-gram about it; it seems a pretty dickish move on their part IMO (note that existing connections still work, they just don't allow new ones). Not that they're obligated to provide any such service, but bull**** like this is why I don't rely on "cloud" services to any extent that I can help it; when you don't control the service, you are at the mercy of service provider's whims.
As a work-around, enable IMAP access in Gmail settings, and then manually add the IMAP/SMTP account to your Mail app on the tablet. That should work fine, but you'll lose a lot of the integration benefits; things like contacts and calendars and such will need to use different services instead of all going through EAS.

I have a yahoo account on it too. But that also doesn't work.
Have you tried syncing manually using the Mail app? Open the app, right-click or swipe from top or bottom, and select Sync. If it doesn't work, you should get an error message.
For what it's worth, my Surface RT happily syncs both my Gmail and Yahoo accounts, in addition to several others (my work account which is also over EAS but to an actual Exchange server, my old university account which is the same, and a personal IMAP account).

Yes, most of the time that works. I don't get an error message. But sometimes I know I have an email, because my phone will tell me. But I will hit sync like five times and I can't see any new emails.
started having the same problem
my mail app has also started having syncing issues... this is with both outlook and gmail!! it was working very well 3 days ago... does anyone have the same issues?!
I have the same problem. Mail stops auto syncing and live tile no longer works. Only way to fix it is to uninstall the app, reboot, reinstall and then it works again... for a while then stops syncing again =(

Read the end of this article - particularly if you are syncing gmail from other devices in addition to the Surface - as you will be hitting the gmail single POP access problem: http://woodygems.wordpress.com/2007/01/24/hello-world/
I like the built in email app, but under sync frequency there is no option for push notifications. The most often it will sync is every 15 minutes. This is an Outlook account.
On my Gmail account however the option is there, but I don't use this as my main email account.
Anyone know a way to resolve this?
Then why don't you just configure Gmail to send and receive your Outlook mails?
Sounds like a bit of a faf. Why won't it give me the option on all my accounts?
Don't know, man. Waiting mine to arrive. I use gmail for all my mail needs.
