How much SOT can be considered to gauge the battery? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using N5 since May 2014 and I am considering replacing the battery. How much SOT should I get on an avg usage with 3g continuously ON and without any games and music. I generally get around 2 to 2.30 hrs on a complete charge. Is it less? battery drains around 20% when i keep chatting for an hour or so.
Should i replace the battery?
Lastly, i feel privileged to own N5! Cheers!
Thanks

I think around 2 to 2.5 hours is the average.
Can be subjective depending on use.

Verizon battery life

Want to get an idea of battery life with Verizon LTE on the S3. When voting in the poll please include the following of what type of user you are 1) heavy user 2) moderate user 3) barely use the phone aka mostly on standby.
I'm interested in the screen time on, not standby, and only those with LTE access.
heavy user days I get twelve hours
moderate days 15
not at all 2 days.
Heavy user I get 12 hours with 3-5 hours talk time and heavy Internet usage about 2 hours, 14-16 if I cut my talk time and Internet usage down 30% . my rezound with extended battery would last longer larger battery obviously, I think the s3 would have even better battery life if the antennas were better they are very poor compared to my rezound which makes a difference in battery life. But all in all there is noticeable difference in battery advancement with s3 I hope all phones will have battery life like s3 and better

About the same. Stock.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Moderate days, after 16 hours, I will have 45-50% remaining. (Approx. 2.5 hours screen time)
Low usage (mostly standby), I will have 85% remaining after 16 hours.
I don't use FB though.
Synergy ICS & JB
I am a new GS3 owner I am curious if these are stock battery figures or with Extended batteries?

Mines stock completely , no roms no extended battery. don't use Facebook either today made it 16 hours 30 mins 10 percent remaining 2 hours of surfing 2hours 24 mins talking 3 hrs 30mins screen on time

I'd say I'm a heavy user. If its fully charged before i go to work, i dont need to charge it until after i get home(8 hr work day) and i usually plug it in at 10%. 4g, internet, Facebook, YouTube, Kindle, a lot of Google Talk. BUT I do have my screen brightness set extremely low.
Get about 18 hours. Moderate to heavy with screen on 2-2:30. Use phone for some calls, texts, check email, browse Internet, some games on occasion

If you're only interested in screen-on time, then the effects of LTE should be pretty much negligible.
Over 4hrs on Ics and 3hrs with jellybean.
Usually after about 15-16 hours off the charger I am around 45-55%
my mind is blown seeing all of your battery life's.. i get to 10 hours if i'm lucky...
on stock i would get to 12 hours (charged the phone half way through the day for like an hour)
Now that i've rooted / unlocked and flashed Liquid smooth RC7 my battery is dying so much faster.. i have sync, locations, LTE, etc off

I get from 6am to 10am and have anywhere to 15% to 30% left. Moderate to heavy use. I do charge it on my way to work for 25 minutes. Whats weird is the phone lasts longer if I do this. If I use 8-9% before I go to work then charge for 20 minutes on the way it lasts all day. I love the battery life.

If the screen is on because you are using the LTE, you are going to sap the battery much more quickly. I love the LTE, but it is not battery friendly. If you aren't using a lot of network, then you are correct. Most peoples on screen time is because they are using their network though.
Heavy use -about 1 day with 8-9 hours on screen time
Medium use- 2 days minimum
Light use- don't ever use lightly
Oh by the way, this is on an Anker extended battery

I'd say this is pretty standard for me. I don't really get to use it at work but I am pretty heavy at home.
Its a little over 3 hours screen time in clean ROM le 3.5
With heavy usage I get 10 hrs with 4-5 hrs on screen time for me, stock battery. One time I got 6 hrs out of it, this is on synergy 4.1.1 r111

whats your battery life like now a days on the SG3?

i am thinking of getting a SG3 locally that is really cheap. whats your battery life like now a days especially SCreen on time!
and if you can let me know what ROm/kernal or are u stock. that would help me in my decision.
thanks guys
The gs3 gets respectable battery life IMO.
3 - 4 hrs screen on time (4 when on Wi-Fi all day).
Running synergy r373 with ziggys kernel. Stock battery.
i got 7hr screen on time once, but that was once.
i get around 4-5 on average.
7 hours on screen time at best maybe more with the battery saving apps and Greenify. 5 hours is the norm for me. I am running Plasma VIII with Kt747 kernel.

Battery saving apps but like I said in my post that 5 hours is the norm for me. You can squeeze as much as possible from a phone by doing as little as possible on your phone. 7 hours is the highest possible for this phone

can some of you post screen shots of the screen on time?
This was an exceptional day, like I said. I average 4-5 hours of screen on time. I am running a 2200mah battery. That is only like a 5% increase over the stock one though. even if you take 5% away from that its beyond impressive.
This is my battery life after close to 3 hours. It looks like I am well on my way to 7 hours.
I'm assuming min brightness at all times for anything over 5 hrs? I run auto since I'm outdoors all day which may explain why 3-4 is my avg

I am on auto also but my phone is in my pocket most of the time while outside with only music playing which depending on the music app doesn't eat up much battery.
Roughly around 7-8 hours of screen on time. With Hyperdrive ROM/Zeus Kernal and connected to Wi-Fi at work and home.

Update of my battery life.
Pretty Decent
I'm getting an average of around 10 hours with three hours of screen time. Not doing any games and have 4G of most of the time though so that helps. And Juice Defender makes a big difference too. I'm running rootbox with BMS kernel-Governor asswax with sio scheduler
I don't have the specifics but I could run all day (10am to 2am ish) with moderate use and either WiFi or data always on when I was stock. Flashed PACman ROM and the battery life has taken a pretty sharp nosedive. Really digging the ROM so I'm looking for some kind of work around.
Right now, 66%, unplugged for 12 hours, 38 minutes screen on time. Screen on will go up now that I am off work and catching up on all the days events.
How do you upload screenshots from the phone? I keep hanging on waiting for response.
Sent from my PACmaned SCH-I535
I get about 7.5 hours out of the stock battery with the screen on about 30% of the time. I'm on Carbon 1.6.1.
By the way, I love your pick. Let's go Pens!
I have an screenshot app for that called Screenshot UX. Oh here is another screenshot.

[Q] Nexus 5 Bad Battery Life

Hey all,
so I recently upgraded from a N4 to the N5. After two charge cycles, the N5 seems to be performing far worse than my N4 (both stock unrooted). With my N4, I could usually get 14 hours with 3 hours SOT (all on wifi). With the N5, I can't get more than 12 hours with 2 hours SOT (all on wifi). Currently I'm at 10 hours with 1.5 hours SOT and I have 24% left.
I also took a look at what people reported in the Battery Life Results thread and I saw several people (stock unrooted) getting 16-20 hours with at least 4 hours SOT. This is nothing close to what I've been getting.
Do you guys think it's possible that I got a dud? I tried reflashing it with the stock image and the first cycle since has been about the same. Not sure if I should wait a couple more cycles to see if it will improve or try to get an RMA for it.
Thanks for the help guys!

Probably depends what your doing with your SOT and what they doing which is why your getting different results.

The SOT I'm using it for is just web browsing, fb, and texting. No games or anything that intensive. Also gnow and auto brightness are on.

web browsing could actually be CPU/GPU intensive (depending on how many tabs you open, how fast you scroll {remember, GPU/CPU works harder if you try to scroll up/down very fast}, how fast you move from webpage to webpage})
definitely turn off auto brightness. also ,install the nexus5 version of the Better Battery Stats to see if any wakelocks prevent your phone from sleeping. From mine (and other people's experience), the nexus5 sips very little battery when idle (even with email sync on through 3G/LTE data)
If I do web browsing, Battery Monitor Widget says my battery drain is around 15-30% per hour (because CPU scales up in response to my frequent open-new-link/new-tab), so I'll get ~3-5 hours screen-on
If I do only video watching, BMW says my drain is closer to 10-15% per hour, so it'll last ~7 hours screen-on
with very good idle-battery-usage (0.5%-2% per hour), I can probably hit 3 hours screen on + 24 hours easily (25% * 3 hours + 1% * 24hours = 75% + 24% = 100%)

Remember this phone has kit Kat and your nexus 4 probably has 4.3. This version of android seems a bit more aggressive on the location services.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
So it sounds like other people are getting similar battery life? I'm just confused because it seems to be doing worse than my N4. Did people notice significant better battery life after the first 3-4 charge cycles?
Thanks for the help everyone!

Battery Life & SOT

Been getting about 14 to 16 hrs of battery life and about 4 hrs of SOT for the week. Main usage is web surfing, emails, whatsapp, YouTube and music streaming, no gaming.
Two days ago, I enabled the boost+ app and optimize most apps that don't need to run at full resolution. The screen on time seems to have improved a lot. Got 5hr 56mins of SOT with 14hr 46mins battery life.
This is much better than my HTC 10 after the nougat update. SOT approx 4hrs. I have boost+ running too.
Will monitor for a few more days to see if it is a one off performance.

Pretty good life!! mine gets about 3.5 hrs SOT, and about 13 hour standby, I also have boost+ on too. Curious as to what your brightness setting is, mine about 50% with adaptive on. I am rather heavier on my battery and network, so it doesnt surprise me that you're getting better life. (mine was better when I was on holiday with a better network connection).
About 45% level with adaptive on too. I think setting boost+ to run almost every app at HD resolution, excluding photo apps, helps a lot.
Good network is key too.
I am very satisfied with battery life when on WiFi 4,5-5 hours SOT), but when on LTE I get around 3 hours of SOT. I just enabled Boost+ to see if it improves battery life at all. I don't want to enable though FullHD for apps.
Do you use location services in high accuracy mode?
Here is mine, Charged up to 96% used until now.
Battery had become a bit crazy lately after updates to tons of apps. Just updated the firmware yesterday. Will monitor again.
Hi guys, hope everyone is doing good.
I wanted to ask that from past 2-3 days I'm facing very quick battery drain on u ultra. I'm hardly getting 2.5 hrs of Sot. Phone is heating too much.
Before this I was seeing around 4 hrs+ SOT that too with 1hr+ of casual gaming. I don't know what is wrong but I'm worried. My device is heating that's all what I'm able to notice. Any suggestions are most welcome. Except this, love the device.
Thank you.
It happened to me after updates of some apps.
The only way I solved it was to shutdown the phone completely. Wait for about a minute before powering up again.
Thinking about getting the U Ultra. Do you feel that the battery life is good enough?

Actually depends on what your daily usage looks like. If I'm on holiday or the whole day at home, one charge easily lasts for 2-3 days. But at university with every sync /bt/WiFi etc enabled and 50% brightness I get about 8h with high amount of screen on time (50-80%)

I usually use the phone for 2-4 hours per day but more hours during travel.
How much does the battery drain during standby? For instance, I you leave the phone in standby during the night, how many percent does the battery decrease?
Mine loses about 4% overnight (8 hours) which I think is exceptionally good!
For me it highly depends on which ROM and which apps I have installed. Recently the battery drain was about 1%/hour (150 apps, all syncing etc on), but right now after cleaning up a bit and nstalling greenify I'm back at ~3-6% per night.
I can get the black U Ultra for €291.99 here: https://www.eglobalcentral.eu/htc-u-ultra-64gb-4g-dual-sim-sim-free-unlocked-black.html
Tested the phone yesterday at a local shop here in Sweden, felt great in the hand and I really like the design. However, the battery life may be a deal breaker. Most of the phones I have used during the last 2 years has droppped 1-3 percent during night and I usually got 6 hours SOT over 24 hours. The last phone I used with weak battery life was Nexus 6, it gave med 3-4 hours SOT during 24h and that was slightly annoying. I get the impression that U Ultra is comparable to Nexus 6 in the battery department. :-/
That's actually a very accurate comparison. I replaced my Nexus 6 with the HTC Ultra and I'm getting almost identical SOT and battery life.

I get about 24 hours of mixed usage, which means I need to charge it up every morning, but I never seem to be able to get more that 4 hours SOT. Also, the rapid charger is slower than the Nexus 6. It takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes for a full charge.
I installed and configured kernel Adiutor/CPU Kernel state #on_demand and turned off #core_4. Now my battery/system working 2 whole days before charging!
Guys if i go to optimize apps and turn it on, Wen I leave it turns off again. Is this normal? I restart the phone and I already did a factory reset because the phone was updated alot the first time I use it, but it's the same. I'm getting about 3-4 hours off sot depending on the use. Maybe less. What do you guys think?
i got 5hrs and a few mins with the first charge (light use, browsing, installing apps, tweakin settings and 35mins spotify)

Two things..
1. There are battery threads that already exist, so don't create new ones..
2. This is the One plus One section..
Battery drain is generally app related, use Better Battery Stats to see what's draining..
Have fun
