Buying a SG-S6 with changed IMEI - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was offered a Samsung S6, the person who is selling it said to a friend of mine that she needed to change the IMEI. That friend told me that. There are two possibly scenarios on when a phone needs its IMEI changed: 1.- Its stolen or 2.- It srsly have some IMEI troubles. Since I live in Venezuela, and know the way things are made here, I'm gonna bet that its the 1 one. I wanna know what are the upsides and downsides of buying a IMEI changed phone ( In a software/firmware level (Am I gonna lose something if I change the rom, gonna have some troubles with OS, gonna lose the IMEI, the phone will be useless after a time period, etc))
TL;DR: Im thinking in buying a Samsung S6 at a good price that, allegedly, had Its IMEI changed. I just wanna know the pros and/or cons of having a changed IMEI.

no problem prob can be used dont worry about any thing.

This is a touchy subject always on xda. But i have there are a few other reasons it could be changed due to mb replacement. Contract unfulfilment.
But i have changed plenty of them just remeber if u ever callcust service or n e thing. Cant go of the emi. Also i try to use phone iemis of the similr grouping at least if not the same type of phone. To help eliminate issues in the futre.

How to Change HTC TYTN II imei?

Hi all,
I really need to change my HTC TYTN II imei. Can anyone help me on this? Is there any software I can get from this forum to change my imei myself? Hope you all can guide me on this.
Changing your IMEI is seriously illegal in several countries.

Why you want to change imei, did you steal it,and you dont want the oparator tracking you.to change imei is ilegal.
Anything in this forum/site that is deemed illegal such as software or hacks will get you banned and the thread removed. Do you understand what the IMEI is used for? I can see if your device got hacked as many places such as Brazil had this problem with the TDMA/CDMA network. GSM is more secure but still not perfect. If you think you got hacked then loose the device and talk to your service provider right away as changing the International Mobile Equipment Identity will not help!
If you are on GSM and use a SIM card, most all wireless providers will not require you to register your IMEI. How many iPhones are in Canada on the Rogers network? And has Rogers nailed anyone for having one? Your SIM is what GSM networks use to ID you and your usage, not the phone. I would not be using an AT&T Tilt if IMEI would black list me from my provider and force me to use one of their (somewhat) outdated and poor selection of full featured phones...

I see an old NES Conrta fan here
I tried that and I still don't have unlimited lives.. er,... minutes on my phone
ya, still play it now and then. I was hoping someone would try this on their phone then post that's it's not working for them.
Which I then would have replied
you must first downgrade your rom to windows mobile 4.9
then upgrade your radio to version 1.66
remove your battery
reinsert your battery
try the code again
..hehe jokes

proevoguy, u must install hardSPL first

, then search registry for IMEI
if you haven't install hardSPL, the key is hidden
mmm why is this thread is not locked??
lol
People want to change imei doesn't mean he/she is using a stolen phone. I want to change my imei just because I don't want AT&T to know I am using a PDA phone w/ their non-pda data plan

I was actually want the same thing because AT&t's plan for this phone is like 64.99 a month, which is just outrageous.
for those that care, i used an 8525 for 7 months before it broke and att never said a word about the fact that i didn't have a pda plan, when i took the phone in they asked if i wanted to register my new phone with them without changing my plan and it didn't cost me a dime, i was previously on a nokia 6030i as far as they knew

Same for me and Rogers. They had the Motorola 320, and Nokia 6820b in their database. Those 2 I got for next to nothing as I renewed my plan both times. The phone after those, I bought direct from HP as I was outsourced by them and got a good discount when buying the HW6955 (HTC Sable) through them and not Rogers (kept my old plan and the phone was factory unlocked too). Next is my current phone: AT&T Tilt, again bought the phone from some place other than Rogers and kept my old plan. If you got the phone for free or discounted, you will be forced into a new plan and the plan will always match the type of your phone. That is why you never buy from your cellphone provider. My 3 dollar internet plan I added long ago, only covered text based sites which matched my very old Motorola 320 So I axed that 3 dollar service from my plan. The guy was surprised to find out the last 2 phones were not on his list With what our providers have to offer for phones, Canada is way behind everyone else (can you say September for iPhone? And that is a maybe). Rogers added Tytn to their fleet of phones when everyone else was getting ready for the TyTN II. They still offer the original TyTn and still no plans for a Kaiser. We will get the Diamond but only after the rest of the world has warn them out. So in short: buy your phone in full and avoid a contract renewal. In the long run, you will still save money and avoid being put in their database.
yeah. It is very slow in Canada. However, I phoned Fido for their additional $7 dollars all you can browse service plan, it is required to registered your IMEI with Fido. Or I should said it this way, Fido only allows the IMEI on their list to sign up for that plan. That means without changing the IMEI, you are not eligible for that plan. I know some of the people change the IMEI on their Iphone just to use that data plan.
well the poster should
explain why they want to change their IMEI no reason just makes it all seem aloof to me!

And that is not "stealing" how?
I have often wondered - I think that it is the RIAA that made it illegal to "break copy protection schemes" - in other words to remove code that was designed to protect a program or music or software. In this forum we "remove" bits that keep us from installing ROMs - technically this would put us in violation of this?
We get away with it because?
1. it is our purchased phone and we can do with it what we want?
2. we don't sell the software that we make (ROMS)
I am pretty sure that is we change the IMEI numbers and enable someone to hurt provider's revenue stream that this will be the straw that breaks the camels back and they will go after the culprits.
My two bits worth...
proevoguy - the forum will generally not discuss IMEI changing as it is highly illegal in most countries. Please search for "get you sore" for some info on why most people won't assist you on this. Personally I'm not against the technical discussion of IMEI changing, but as it is such a dangerous subject, it's best not to touch it.
I'm going to lock the thread, but leave it visible, so if anyone wants to help you privately they can. Just don't forget to lube up first if you get caught with an IMEI changed phone.

[Q] Why would you want to change the IMEI on a phone you have just purchased?

So we are clear: I am not talking about stolen phones. I am not asking how to change the IMEI on any device.
I am aware of someone who is involved in drugs, I know her mother but I do really know anything about her. It seems to me that she has some kind of scam going on with buying and reporting cell phones stolen. I really do not know the details of the scam, still putting the pieces together.
She took her mother's vehicle one night. Days later the mother was able to locate it and take it back.
In the truck was a lot of stuff, one was a receipt for four new phones on an ATT family plan. In the bottom portion it listed the same phones as the top portion with a statement regarding changing the IMEI.
I guess I am wondering if anyone knows what -if any- advantage there is to having the store change the IMEI of the phone you just bought?
Is this part of some scam anyone might be aware of?
I didn't even imagine that the store would, or could, change the IMEI before seeing this.
Interested story though!
Ok First off. Talks about this are not allowed on XDA. Now that is clear le me explain what is going on.
When a device is reported stolen/lost the carrier can put a block on the IMEI so it can not be used on the network. In EU they can do it so it doesnt work on any network in the area. By changing the IMEI (which is illegal in 98% of the world) This allows the device to be used on the network. This allows the device to be resold as a working device. Only the OEM has the rights to change these numbers. And I dont mean the phone OEM I mean the OEM for the main board which is where this number is hard coded.
I would stay as far away from this girl as you can. She is gonna get you caught up in more drama then you know.

[Q] Sony Z2 IMEI is other phone's

Hi, I bought locked IMEI Z2 off ebay without knowing it. short story, I got my money back but there one thing that surprise me.
the my IMEI is from other phone LG L5 to be precise and I'm pretty sure it's a Legit Z2 as well, not some chinese made knock off. I also checked my other phone that I got from new (S4, and HD2) they all got the right model.
What I want to know is, is it possible to change the IMEI number? ASFAIK you can't change xperia IMEI number because it's stored somewhere in the partition. and you can't change it because it is security signed and if you change it, would make your device completely useless or hardbricked, unlike softbricked device that you can easily fix.
imei.info
you should probably return the phone because even if you could change the IMEI, you won't be able to generate a valid IMEI for it.
Well, or you could just put another phone IMEI like he did. I don't know if its possible. I'm not condoning any illegal attempt to change IMEI of stolen phone, just acted out of curiosity. I returned the phone to seller as well.
Its a stolen device.
Whether its a knockoff or not has no relevance.
IMEI can be modified, whether intentionally or accidentally. However, because of the legal implications, no one here will teach you how to.

the best thing happened that u got ur money back, cause you'll never make it work with an other IMEI other then its IMEI.
IMEI can be modify by some sw tools. I suspect it is not a new phone.

[Completed] T-Mobile Blocked my IMEI on used phone

Hi Im new here and needed some clarification regarding an issue with my IMEI on my T mobile Note 2. I bought it used back in June off of a facebook buy and sell group to fix it up and sell it. At the time I bought it, it had a clean IMEI, and the people who sold me the phone told me they were the original owners. a few weeks ago, I again checked the imei, and it was still clean.
Now Im about to sell the phone, but I check one more time and now its blacklisted on T mobile and Metro, but clean on ATT and Verizon according ti imeidata.net. I check tmobiles website and it says its been reported lost. Im going to try to contact the people who sold it to me, and if they wont help me, Ill be contacting Tmobile and Asurion. After doing some research about what else I can do, Ive came up with a few options, but I still need some advice.
1. Sell as is and cut my losses
2. Sell on ebay to someone outside of US
3. Sell for parts
If I sell it to someone outside the country, how do I know it will work wherever the buyer is? I have no intention if screwing anyone over and want to make sure they get what they pay for.
How can I protect myself from this happening in the future? Is there a way to get the IMEI numbers of future phones signed over to my name, even if Im not a customer of that phones carrier?
Also, if imeidata.net says its only blacklisted on Tmobile/metro, can it be used on other American networks?
I really appreciate any help with this. Thanks.
One more thing I forgot to mention...when I bought it, it was running android 4.1.2. I downgraded it to 4.1.1 to unlock it and its still running 4.1.1 incase the unlock procedure didnt work and I need to try again. Not sure if this is relevant to the imei issue but Im just putting it out there.
Hi,
If it's blocked, it's blocked. No one can help you with that legally. Sorry.
Whether it works in other carriers.... I would doubt it. Usually blacklists are across all carriers in North America.
And as far as protecting yourself in the future, you can't really. Buying a used phone is always going to be a gamble. Nothing you can do about that except try to buy from a reputable source or individual.
Good luck!

[Completed] Accidentally bought a stolen phone, and really need somebody's help.

So a couple months ago I bought a phone that at the time I didnt know was stolen. After finding out a little more about it here is what I found:
-not blacklisted
-previous owner still owes 500+ dollars on it
-its the g930p version (sprint)
-There is no lock pin or anything so I have access to it, just cant use it for data, sms, mms, or anything of the sort.
-sprint says its still under contract/financial responsibility so they wont unlock it for me
So, I dont have the money to pay it off, and have no way of contacting the owner, so what I'm wondering, is if there is a way that I could perhaps change the imei or meid number (to seem new to different carriers) or any other way of making it so i can actually use the phone.

Greetings and welcome to assist. You have my sympathies that you bought a stolen phone and I really hope you get your money back but changing IMEI numbers is illegal and not something we can discuss on xda
Thanks for understanding
