Hi everyone!
I´m new here in the forum, and i´m also new in this android world. So, i got a Transformer TF101G recently, and i have researched a lot about android and this device. I discovered this forum, which has been particularly useful, and learned a lot. So, to the questions...
1 - My device is B90 and if I rooted the device can I take it back to factory status?
2 - If I brick trying to root can I return it to normal?
3 - There are any ROM's for TF101G? (That can use a SIM card to acess the web)
4 - If there are ARM versions of linux distro's, why it is not possibly to just install them like an ordinary PC?
PS - I know that the majority of the questions as solutions for B70 and lower devices, but how about B90?
Thanks a lot,
BU2T3R.

1. Yes, im pretty sure you could flash the original firmware from Asus and it will unroot.
2. Im not sure, but if you do manage to get bricked. What you could try do is wipe all data.
3. Yes, look in the Development section i know i've seen roms supporting 3g.
Hoped i helped a little lol
Hi!
Yes you did, thank you for your help. I could find a bunch of ROM's that support 3G. About question one, I read some users saying there is no "sure-fire" way to recover from brick on SBKv2 devices =(. Besides that I've OTA .23 so as I discovered nothing for me to root. Even the .21 are difficult and doesnt work with everybody. If someone could answer de questions, please do.
Thank you,

Thanks a lot for the info! I´ve searched in Nachoroot thread and I could see many people have done it. But now I have a question about this NachoRoot, the final results are the same as any other root method?
Thank you,

Yes, there is no difference. Only way to root is different. In the end everybody ends up with a su file in /system/xbin (and superuser).
root = root
Hi guys. Is it hard to root the A510. I don'twant to install a custom ROM, just get root access to run stuff like Chainfire and have a little more control over GPU/CPU performance.
How long will it take? Can some one post me directions or a link?
Thanks!
Is it so hard to look at the whopping 8 topics here?

To be honest, there's not much. Even them, I'm a noob at this stuff. So I would've thought a little more hand.
There is a rooting guide and a program that will root your tablet, all within these 8 threads...

There are many discussions about this topic.
Ok wait. So once I root, can I then update OS OTA. Will root be broken?
Its not hard at all, and while you surf xda in general, notice that there is the website part of xda with many good articles about the rooting process and its pro's and cons.
Theres a risk with any tinkering under the hood, but the guides a mostly quite accurate at what to do and its requirements for the process, but you, and solely you are responsible for doing it.
Another detail you have to obey to a certain extend is the posting of requests for advices in general, is that you ask in the appropriate section, eg. Questions and Answers, and the other sub threads like accessories, developement, and so on.
But dont mind too much about your first initial misplaced questions, and the subsequent grunty answers, unless you do it repeatedly that is. We all started as noobs, but follow posting rules as your first lesson.
And for your last question; No, you cant be sure of anything working as it did before you rooted, and further, flashed CWM, removed stock apps, setting up tweaks and mods etc etc.
OTA's is often depending on stock recovery, so nope, root can be lost easily, or the OTA execution might not be successfull at all.

1. Rooting does not automatically give you the ability to control GPU/CPU
2. What from Chainfire do you want to install?
3. The above stuff is not "noobish", ie. if you want to do such things you really need to know what you are doing - so better first read a bit more about root
4. When you root, depending on the method you choose, be careful with any update and better, do not do any FOTA update. It might cause the root not to work after FOTA (on A510 you use an exploit to be able to root which may be fixed in newer releases), or even brick you device (see simoneser's update here)

Ok, another thing. Which is harder and longer process...root or flash custom ROM?
Also, if I root, is it possible to stay with stock ROM? All I want is root access. Or with rooting must I got custom?\
Additionally, whats the difference between root and bootloader unlock? If I want to use things like CHainfire and Titanium backup, is unlocking bootloader enough?
PS: I will really appreciate if I can get a link (I have been trying to find) where the whole root process for this specific device is shown. I saw the XDA thread but didnt understand much.

Root is entry level. It is usually more difficult to flash a custom ROM as you will also need an unlocked bootloader (which the A510 already has I think), and a custom recovery.
Root, in popular Windows terms, is simply getting administrator rights on your current PC.
Unlocking the bootloader, is like having the BIOS password as well.
If you need Chainfire and TB, bootloader unlocking will do nothing for you. You need root.
To get root, I believe A100's Mempodroid exploit works for the A510: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25036001&postcount=93
Hy, Thank you for checking out my post.
I got little problem,
So i wanted to play Clash Of Clans on my phone, the only problem i have is that the application is incompatible.
So searched some fixes how to do that, and the majority of them were APK file's or Buildprop or Market Helper.
And they all looked great and that they would work, but every time you needed to Root your phone.
This is my first time rooting a phone so i wanted to be sure i would not make any mistake's or fails.
So i was looking up on how to root my HTC Desire S, and i came a cross this site that noticed me on the program called: HTC Quick Root, but im wondering what to do from there since there are no tutorials or forum's that show this work's, or maybe i am just a retard in searching stuff...
But yea, i was wondering if you guys know if its: Safe? Or how it works? and what Root Method to choose (Universal Exploit or Insecure Boot.img, i want Market Helper btw)
Pleas let me know, and if you guys think im a dump ass and im doing something really wrong, pleas dont go hard on me, im a noob

You need S-OFF + insecure kernel to use the Quick Root.
Easy way to gain ROOT access:
Unlock your bootloader using HTCdev.com
Flash TWRP (custom recovery) via fastboot
Flash SuperSU (root) via TWRP

What do you mean with Root access, do i need TWRP and SuperSU to root with quick root?
I hope you understand, i am new to all of this, so pleas dont get mad.

Any reason to get mad ?!
root = gain root access for your device
S-ON/S-OFF means "Security Flag" of your device on/off. Stock is S-ON
I can't suggest the "quick root" as it won't make anything easier for you if your device is running stock android.
TWRP is a "custom recovery" which gives you the ability to flash any custom roms or zip files. SuperSU is a zip file that will grant you permanent root access.

HTCdev.com -> click "unlock Bootloader" provides a detailled step-by-step guide. Stock android means non-rooted android as it came with the device. Once you've unlocked the bootloader I can assist you using Skype.

You should post your question on https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/help
No, rooting requires you to unlock your bootloader which means you will get the boot warning. I think there was a workaround for previous phones but I wouldn't recommend it. Google forced OEMs to add the warning.
Judging by your questions though, I would seem that you already knew the answers.
First of all, please search the forum, or just take a look at the threads at least, before making new threads. There is already a lengthy discussion on this exact question, right on the top page of Q&A: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/help/root-yes-t3936633
And another here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...ens-unlock-bootloader-features-loose-t3932323
And here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/help/advantages-unlocking-bootloader-t3938457
Note that unlocking the bootloader and root go hand in hand. So even though 2 of the thread subject lines refer to unlocking the bootloader, a lot of the discussion involves root as well.
We really don't need a new thread, every time someone comes on here that can't make their own decision about root/no root. A decision that can be based on readily available info, that existed even before the above discussions existed!
Feeling charitable today, so I'll answer your questions as well as I can (my responses below in red font):
manutoxic said:

Return to full stock ROM, and relocking the bootloader should get rid of the boot warning, etc. I haven't tried it personally (restore to stock) but do a search if you want to verify, the info probably exists.
And also is there a solution to get Netflix in hdr and better resolution with unlocked bootloader?
Not sure yet (just got the phone and rooted it). There is a modded Netflix apk (older version, not for this device specifically) that some folks say will get back the 720p. But others report that it is still only 480p with the modded apk. And no HDR (as the apk is an old version that doesn't support it).
And which why should I root / which apps are really recommend to let me root
Root isn't typically achieved with an "app". But there is a toolkit that performs most of the functions. Although, all you really need is a couple files, and typing a couple fastboot commands. And frankly, if you don't know how to you fastboot, you really shouldn't be messing with root in the first place. My recommendation would be the method: unlock the bootloader, fastboot boot TWRP, in TWRP flash the TWRP installer zip, flash Magisk root, done. Pretty easy, and I did it with zero issues.

Hi,
I'm quite new to rooting. I've jailbroken many iPhones but it's been much easier than rooting Android.
Either way, I have an app to connect my PS3 controller to my OP7pro. This app requires the phone to be rooted. I'm wondering if I have to do everything in the tutorials or just something simple like unlocking the bootloader. I'm also curious if after the root I will be able to install the backup from my pc and keep the root. I do not need nor want Magisk or TWRP at the moment, I will install it at some point.
What do I need to do to make a root-critical app work as simply as possible?
is very simple to root just follow one of the multiples guides in this forum, if you have a T-mobile variant you need to sim unlock first then convert it to intl.
it all sounds complicated but is very easy

If you NEED root then at the moment you NEED magisk
Unlock bootloader first for you need to and it'll wipe all your data...
Twrp is not necessary however it makes things easier such as backing up, flashing from recovery, etc.

Aight, but will I be able to restore my backup and keep the root?
What's this app you are using to use your ps3/4 controller?
No point in trying to avoid Magisk. I reckon the same applies to TWRP as well. They're extremely simple to install. Connect your phone to a PC, reboot to bootloader/fastboot mode, then run
fastboot boot TWRP.img (either rename the twrp image or change the filename the command refers to), then in the temporary twrp you flash 2 zip files (twrp installer + Magisk). Done. Rooted with twrp and magisk (After you unlock your bootloader, of course).
Trying to root without Magisk or TWRP will not only be more difficult, but also likely cause you issues (such as no Google Pay).
Magisk is your best XDA friend! Cheers

I'd like to thank you all for clarifying the topic. It seems like a really nice forum. But what I need to know is will I be able to restore my OnePlus Switch backup from the app and will i keep the root? The last thing I want is to reinstall all the apps.

You can not pair a ps3 controller with the phone and just make it work. It need some sort of a driver, and this app is one. But for some reason it needs root to show the local bluetooth adress and connect.

Unlocked bootloader is just an unlocked bootloader. It is not root.
As other have touched upon, Magisk is the root method for this device. I'm not aware of any other root method. Only different variations on flashing Magisk. It's awesome, works great, reliable, and well supported by the developer. So I see no reason to avoid it. Yes, Magisk has some features you may not need. But you can simply opt not to use them. My opinion, it still is a lightweight and unbloated root solution.
You can root using Magisk, without TWRP. But you need to flash a patched boot image (and the correct one for your OOS version, or you will have problems). So you would really be making the process harder for no good reason. And in my opinion, having a modded device (root) without a custom recovery (TWRP) is not a good idea. It is called "recovery" for a reason, as it allows you a lot of options to recover the device if things go wrong. Much more so than the stock recovery (which is nearly useless, really only good for installing stock OTA updates on stock devices).
I don't personally use Oneplus Switch backup app. But I don't see any reason why it would not work once rooted. If you downloaded the apps from the Google Play store, they should just automatically reinstall anyway (after root, and starting up the phone again)?
In any case, losing data (having to setup the phone again, etc.) is always a possibility when unlocking the bootloader and rooting these devices. If you choose to mod the phone, it's just a possibility we all live with.
