[A510] Root A510

Hi guys. Is it hard to root the A510. I don'twant to install a custom ROM, just get root access to run stuff like Chainfire and have a little more control over GPU/CPU performance.
How long will it take? Can some one post me directions or a link?

To be honest, there's not much. Even them, I'm a noob at this stuff. So I would've thought a little more hand.

There is a rooting guide and a program that will root your tablet, all within these 8 threads...

Ok wait. So once I root, can I then update OS OTA. Will root be broken?

Its not hard at all, and while you surf xda in general, notice that there is the website part of xda with many good articles about the rooting process and its pro's and cons.
Theres a risk with any tinkering under the hood, but the guides a mostly quite accurate at what to do and its requirements for the process, but you, and solely you are responsible for doing it.
Another detail you have to obey to a certain extend is the posting of requests for advices in general, is that you ask in the appropriate section, eg. Questions and Answers, and the other sub threads like accessories, developement, and so on.
But dont mind too much about your first initial misplaced questions, and the subsequent grunty answers, unless you do it repeatedly that is. We all started as noobs, but follow posting rules as your first lesson.
And for your last question; No, you cant be sure of anything working as it did before you rooted, and further, flashed CWM, removed stock apps, setting up tweaks and mods etc etc.
OTA's is often depending on stock recovery, so nope, root can be lost easily, or the OTA execution might not be successfull at all.

1. Rooting does not automatically give you the ability to control GPU/CPU
2. What from Chainfire do you want to install?
3. The above stuff is not "noobish", ie. if you want to do such things you really need to know what you are doing - so better first read a bit more about root
4. When you root, depending on the method you choose, be careful with any update and better, do not do any FOTA update. It might cause the root not to work after FOTA (on A510 you use an exploit to be able to root which may be fixed in newer releases), or even brick you device (see simoneser's update here)

Root is entry level. It is usually more difficult to flash a custom ROM as you will also need an unlocked bootloader (which the A510 already has I think), and a custom recovery.
Root, in popular Windows terms, is simply getting administrator rights on your current PC.
Unlocking the bootloader, is like having the BIOS password as well.
If you need Chainfire and TB, bootloader unlocking will do nothing for you. You need root.
To get root, I believe A100's Mempodroid exploit works for the A510: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25036001&postcount=93

I've read a lot, still no clue how to root on 5.1

I've read a lot of guides both on this forum and using google. Some are saying to wipe the phone completely and flash SuperSU through TWRP, some are saying there is a chainfire auto-root method. Why am I like the only one confused? I just received my Nexus 5 (I know I'm late in the game), and updated to 5.1. I would like to root, but don't really know what the best way is. Should I just wait on a new, easier way that is currently in the development process?
Also I am reading I'd have to go back to stock to get any new OTA updates, and I read that can be kind of a PITA. So do you think root is still worth it? Honestly I just want viper4android, Adaway, and Greenify. That's it.

Both are right. There is a manual way (flashing SuperSU through TWRP) and there is an "automated" way (the chainfire auto-root). Pick your poison.
The manual way will most likely wipe your device because the "unlock" step does that. I'm honestly not sure about the auto-root method, but I'm going to guess it probably also wipes.
As for OTA, yes, you need a stock recovery to get OTA, because.... well... the OTA uses the stock recovery to update. Most people are of the mind that if you're the type of person who flashes a custom recovery like TWRP, you're also the type of person who doesn't care about OTAs (the .zip is typically posted here within hours of the OTA going live anyway).
There are risks and drawbacks to any kind of hacking of your phone. Risks obviously include bricking, but the drawbacks usually include having to wipe and reinstall things once in a while, and also the lack of OTAs. Pick your poison.

Being a Nexus device this process is pretty straightforward and does not need all of the utilities to obtain root

Help rooting Samsung galaxy j3 (sm-J337a)

It seems everywhere I go there is no root for this phone (sm-J337a) it's an at&t phone. I used kingoroot, kingroot and basically any root out there. nothing has worked. So this seems that it has no root made for it yet? is there any possibility for someone to do this? Sorry, I'm not too good at rooting as a whole. But I've used Odin and things like that before.
there doesn't even seem to be CWM or TWRP for this phone either.
it's running Android 8.0 and was made in 2018.

I'm having the same issue. I can't figure out how to root mine either and I've got the same phone and carrier.

Hi all.. I know this thread is a little old but thought id add this.. As of this date Ive found no ROOT solution for the SM-J337A - AT&T variant either.. I have found a lot of other software and such and as soon as I can get it all sorted, cataloged, and uploaded to the cloud I will see about placing some links here somewhere to all of them.. Not sure how long it will be..Stay tuned...
I happen to inherit a J337A with a cracked screen but was working fine until I updated it and tryed ROOTing it.. Im still Playing with it to see if I can revive it.
Having issues finding a UB compatible Firmware set that I dont have to pay for.
Am needing "J337AUCSBBTI1" or maybe "J337AUCSABTE1" to see if I can bring it back to life.. I may end up pitching it tho...

I can help you with that if you still need it. I have my j3 rooted with magisk, although there is no twrp or any custom recovery for that matter..
I can give you the exact files along with the patched magisk file and you'll have to flash it with patched odin and you should be good. Let me know.

Instead of sending a patched magisk file would you mind sending over the method you used to root? If you did what I think you did I'm very confused. The phone is OEM locked although this hasn't stopped others from accessing root before. If you can confirm you have the phone we have, the SM-J337A ATT then you can pull out the boot and recovery images using a root app. Then I could develop a working TWRP for our device. But ofc this is only possible if you explain how you went about rooting the device. Thanks in advance.

I have both SM-J337P/A and it works the same on both. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to be oem unlocked? You mean greyed out? Or does it not show up at all or what? If I go into developer options I have the oem unlock option, which then allows me to unlock the bootloader. If yours is greyed out I saw a solution on XDA a long time ago, maybe a year ago. I'd have to look for it in my files, I know I saved it somewhere. Let me know what you meant by that and we can go from there

I do not have the option to OEM Unlock the phone period. It is not in my developer options unfortunately. If you do find something of that nature please do contact me. Also if you would like a TWRP for your device I'd be up to developing it, although I wouldn't be able to maintain bugs... All I need is the kernel and I can get it done.

Is it worth rooting the OnePlus 7?

Hi All.
I've got a OP 7 Pro which for the most part, am loving it, except the camera (Messing with GCam ports atm).
I usually root my handsets for the usual de-bloat / custom rom reasons. The last OnePlus I had, I rooted and installed TWRP. Didn't have much success with custom roms so ended up running pretty much stock (but could no longer update OTA for some reason). Since OP don't put loads of bloatware on, I din't mind so much, although I do like to mess around. I really want to be able to do full nand backup which requires unlocked bootloader = all data gone. I can handle reinstalling apps etc but loosing Google Authenticator is a pain in he ass. Do you guys think it is worth rooting at all? Is there a full backup technique that doesn't rquire unlocking bootloader / loosing current data?
I'm not particualrtly hopeful but any suggestions would be appreciaed.

I have lived fine without rooting for years.
Have not bricked my device once since I stopped rooting, but why ask here ? People come here just to root devices, try ROMs, Kernels, Mods ....... This place is biased and they will tell you rooting in great everytime

I read the thread you linked to. Nowhere do I see it discussing:
What all will be LOST by rooting besides Netflix 720P. (ie google pay etc and yes I know magisk has a "hide" feature but it fails on several common apps)
How the root can be accomplished without losing data or with a method to restore data lost from bootloader unlock.
Both questions were asked by the op in the original post.

Would like to know this too. I haven't rooted a device for many years, because I need the use of banking apps and Google Pay is my main (sometimes only) method of payment.
How reliable is custom kernels from hiding root?

I have my OnePlus 7 Pro rooted just following the guides on here and my phone still has functioning Google Pay and full quality Netflix.
Pokemon Go was trickier to get it to not recognize the root, I had to setup Magisk Manager a specific way besides just hiding root from the app but other than that everything works great.

How u have hd quality on netflix?This is not possible because when u unlock bootloaded u lose drm for hd.

Whoops. Didn't realize this was such a big problem. I assumed it was in full quality as I only tested it, but don't regularly use Netflix on my phone. After digging into the app it says I have Widevine L3 and can use only SD with no HDR.

what are the interesting things I can do after rooting my op6?

After leaving Samsung, I did not root my phone as never felt the need for it, as I used root for battery mods and roms.
So can anyone tell me that what interesting mods I can do after rooting my phone?

You can install custom ROMs which have extended features for your phone like changing what buttons do, having an always on display show different things, have shortcuts mapped etc. Custom kernels can manage your phone better whether you like more battery or more performance. Then you have magisk modules come in that can add further functionality and then Edxposed, F-droid the list goes on and on.

You can get rid of ads in your apps.
You can have modded youtube without any ads and other stuff.
Tons of stuff

i root because a few mods:
Viper4android
Call Recorder - not available in my country.
EdXposed with gravitybox - for little customizing
Youtube Vanced
i also root because i had oneplus 5 before which was not rooted and one day i messed up and couldnt get it to work again. i really tried everything - if i was rooted i probably could have fixed my op5.

How do you install new updates then?

Once the updates are out you can install them directly with your phone as you have been doing with any other phone.
The only thing is that after every update you have to root again your phone as the update 'delete' the root.
Nothing major, don't worry. Trust me, us, once you root you won't be able to have your phone unrooted anymore ?
If you are in doubt I suggest you to root it once and then, after a new update you can decide if root it again or not ?

If ur not willing to walk the mile of getting knowledge, dont root

You can use it to teleport to another dimension.
Jk jokes aside you have full control of your system and can do all kinds of modification which how you modify will make it awesome or perform worse.

I have rooted my phones for years when I used Samsung devices.
Samsung had issues with battery and performance so that time I had rooted my device.
But since I am using op6 I am so satisfied with the performance and battery, that's why I never rooted my device.
Now I am bored and want to try few mods, so I will root my phone.
I have never used magisk root method, and as I said it's been almost 2 years I rooted device, so I'll be happy if someone can guide me in detail and best root method, I am currently on latest fw android 10.

I do agree with you about Samsung, that is why I passed to oneplus few years ago, the only thing I do miss is the camera quality.
A part of that, you'll be happy to have your phone rooted (Magisk is amazing!)

Do I need to install Twrp tp install Magisk?
Will I lose any apps like snapchat?

You can root your phone also without installing the twrp (if you are not intended to deep mod your phone). I'd suggest anyway to install the twrp.
Yes, magisk is needed it can be compared as the supersu but with extended feautures.
If I don't mistake (I did unlock my bootloader on my 1st day I owned the oneplus) all data will be wiped and yes... You might loose your data.
If you can make a backup of your photos, videos and any extra file on a PC and after the unlock and root procedure you can restore them.
All other app can just be downloaded again.... ???

for people mentioning about adfree & background youtube, this can be done in a virgin phone also. just install the vanced apk.
