Not able to flash custom rom without losing imei - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a problem in which I keep losing my imei number everytime I switch from my stock rom, when I flash back my stock rom (p905), imei reappears and is back to normal. I really want to switch rom as I'm really tired of kitkat, all the other threads didn't work, that's why I'm asking now, any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Losing IMEI is probably due to a bad flash. Try to adhere to the steps mentioned by the dev of your custom ROM. Take a backup of your EFS folder before flashing, if you lose your imei after flashing then restore this folder it will bring back your imei number. Also you can write your imei number back in your phone using adb.

[Q] Potentially Lost IMEI / Brick

My phone will not recognize Verizon as its carrier or connect to a cellular network in any way. Settings > About Phone > Status > IMEI reads "0." I have, in some capacity, "lost" my IMEI.
I understand their are a lot of threads on this topic, however, I (unfortunately and ignorantly) have done a number of things after the actual losing of my IMEI and I am not sure the current state of my device or if a backup of my IMEI exists anywhere.
First my story. I successfully managed to get one of the early nightly builds of CM10.2 running on my phone and all was well. After updating to a more recent nightly via the CM updater, I noticed I had lost cell service in all capacity. Confused, I decided to not take any chances and revert to a CWM full backup I had made while still running CM10.1 stable. Still nothing. At this point, I thought that something was wrong with my firmware, and so I flashed a zip containing the latest Verizon firmware successfully (same that was installed previously). Nothing.
Not really understanding that one could lose their IMEI or the potentially signs of such loss, I decided to go all the way to stock via odin. The image did unlock the boot loader and grant SU, but did not wipe user data. Thinking it would help, I wiped data/factory reset within the stock recovery and then reflashed the image. Of course, still nothing. This is my current situation.
So my question is this: do I have any hope of recovering or "injecting" my IMEI? From my understanding, the Samsung mechanism designed to backup the IMEI in these such instances is broken. In fact, it probably "restored" it to a bogus null value. I think this means that I now have no IMEI information on my device. If so, does this mean I can manually inject it somehow? I have tried methods that purport to build the files on a pc and then move them to the device but I cannot access any of the Qualcom menu's that necessarily put the phone in a certain USB mode via the phone dialer. I get "no mobile network available."
Also: I still have my CM10.1 full CWM backup from before I lost my IMEI. If this backup contains the information needed to restore my IMEI, is their any way I can retrieve it? I think this is my best shot, but I'm not sure.
I would like to know if my new phone is a paperweight, since I am still within the 14 day return period. If I have indeed bricked my phone, there is a slim change that I can reset everything back to stock and play dumb with Verizon to get an exchange.
I apologize for the ambiguous vocabulary and/or description. I have a good working knowledge of most of the stuff on xda, but a lot of the language used in forums regarding IMEI restoration is foreign to me.
Thanks in advance for any help!
You have to Odin a stock ics image, or restore a backup if you have it, and dial *2767*3855#.
This should fix your imei and eri status by reprovisioning your phone.
Also as soon as you reroot and get up and running again, make an imei backup so you won't have to go back to stock if you have this issue again.
You could manually inject it, but a moderator has to grant you permission to use the thread. However, manually injecting it with qpst will leave your phone in roaming (not actually roaming, but the status icon won't go away) because it won't fix your eri number.
Use this option first, if it doesn't work you can try injecting it.

I used qpst to restore my imei and then used this method to get back without using odin, if you haven't already done so. I also think you can get your imei and eri back without using qpst with this method. I had already restored my imei and eri wasn't saying 5 like it should.

Edit : I forgot, once you have your imei and eri restored and backed up. Don't forget to flash your modem back up to the version you want.

Problem after flashing 4.3 rom causing me to be stuck in 2g

I am having a huge issue with my phone. I have been flashing custom roms for the past few years and this is the first time I have ever ran into a issue like this. I flashed SlimRom 4.3 build 2 a couple weeks back, it was taking forever to switch between 3g and LTE sometimes up to 5 mins to lock. Not to mention the signal was super low. I ignored it for the most part as it is a newer rom and figured it was just a bug and would hold off for now till kitkat released.
Then my phone would just start random rebooting about once or twice a day. Then on my way home from work i was bluetoothed to my vehicle when it did a random reboot. After that Ive been stuck in 1xRTT since. I also managed to loose my IMEI and PRL version they are both set at 0 and I do not have a backup. Has anyone else ever had this issue? I don't have a clue how to get it working again. My phone is out of warranty I am in the midst of flashing it back to stock to see if that works. Ive searched for hours trying to find a fix. Thanks.
Reverted back to stock.still no luck. Also play store won't work. No connection wirh retry button even while connected to wifi
What firmware/radio do you have? If you've been on custom roms a while you might need to update your radio baseband (most current is VRBMF1). You can flash an updated radio without regard for the Rom you're using.

The imei thing is a separate issue. I lost mine without a backup when I first started flashing roms... I think it was cM at the time. I ended up going all the way back to an early stock image, grabbing the OTA updates and then rooting and flashing all over again. I don't know what part in particular got me my imei back.

Do you mean a backup of efs partition or a nandroid? There is a thread at rootzwiki about recovering your imei-efs items. When u get it back do
Su
Reboot nvbackup
In a terminal then you wont have to worry about this again. If you have a nandroid restore it and you'll b good.
Yes my efs folder was completely empty. I reverted back to stock 4.0.4 still had a "0" for IMEI so i used QPST and entered in the IMEI manually and it stuck. I have signal back now. I just got factory mode off. Now my phone is stuck on "Activating", a factory reset should fix that. So this is resolved. Thanks for the help.

Is this the fix to get everything up and running again (flash back to ICS)? I was about to start my own thread until I read this. I lost my IMEI, ERI and MEID but didn't back it up first (I know I know ... boo). I manually input my IMEI using QPST like you did and was also able to fix my ERI and MEID and now I have data and text, but still no voice connection. I've flashed a stock (rooted) ROM and tried the reprovision code *2767*3855# and the RTN codes ##786# & ##72786# but nothing happens (I've seen in other forums this only works in ICS and not JB). Last night I downloaded a stock unrooted JB ROM (4.1.2) and ICS ROM (4.0.4) and am planning to ODIN back to stock and complete a factory reset to see if it will kick the gears back in motion again.
I'm not meaning to hi-jack this thread but confirm this is the solution to completing a non-backed-up IMEI/ERI/MEID fix.
-Edit-
There are tons of threads out there starting with "I've lost signal, what happened?" and ending with "I'll report back and let you know what I've found." or "Verizon replaced it for me." but none offer a viable user solution. I'd love to see the answer posted so other searchers out there can find help.
I can confirm everything you did will restore your IMEI/ERI and connectivity. I did all the steps you did (manually input IMEI and use the utility to repair ERI and MEID), then reverted back to unrooted stock using odin. I still didn't have signal until I did a factory restet IN THE ROM. Going back to stock using odin and doing a factory reset in CWM didn't fix the issue, but going into the phone's settings and completing a factory reset from there caused my signal and connection to come back.

Changed IMEI

Hello XDA!
I've got the I9105P version, and after I've flashed a few rom's, I saw that my IMEI is changed to 0000000000. Although, I can make phone calls and have data connection on my phone. How could I restore my original IMEI? I have it on the back of the phone, with the serial number along.
Please help me!
Thank you!
Hello,
You can try and restore some backup if you have one, It should solve the problem.
If you have a EFS Partion backup, would be better.
Meanwhile see this 2 link:

I hope you will solve it.
Best regards,
Thank you for replying, but I already did what's in the first tutorial. The problem is that when I flashed a custom rom, I didn't knew that I have to backup EFS files(noob). Now, after reading and reading, I know that this is important. I reflashed my stock Rom 4.1.2 and nothing, and then reflashed 4.2.2 ultimate update from sammobile, and still nothing. Is there any other way in restoring my IMEI?
Hey guys! I search a lot in the forum, but unfortunatelly, I don't have the NV Data files in my EFS folder. I think the only solution is to get the phone to a gsm service, that has a Octopus Box.
If you think that I have a solution without this, text me

Lost imei after factory reset and root

Hi guys,
I have a slight problem here, I was using my rooted with magisk and running lineageos17. Unfortunately, bluetooth wasnt working so I reverted back to stock, which fixed the bluetooth problem. I tried rooting the thing then with this method:
https://www.xda-developers.com/install-android-oreo-samsung-galaxy-s7-exynos/
Unfortunately though, this killed my imei. I tried restoring my efs partition with twrp; even tried reflashing the stock firmware, all to no avail, my imei is gone.
Is there any way I can restore it or have I turned my phone into a fancy paperweight now?
Would be cool if anyone could offer me some help,
best wishes,
derelektrischemoench
// edit: I managed to get twrp installed and was able to restore my twrp- backup which i had made before this whole endeavour and voila: the device is back online, has an imei and is able to connect to a network. Hell yea. Thread can be closed, I guess.

What should I backup?

Hello, I have been struggling with an issue in my moto e5. I unlocked bootloader & installed custom roms. Then I thought I should go back to the stock rom & I did so. But after booting up, mobile data doesn’t work (No service). Auto rotation doesn’t work. Also it can't detect when I pick up my phone. But in custom roms, there is no issue like this! I flashed stock rom using rescue and smart assistant tool. I also did flash using fastboot commands batch file. But the issue persists.
Next I found that imei is lost in stock rom. So I installed custom rom, backed up "efs" from twrp, installed stock rom & restored the efs. I got my imei numbers back! But no service and auto rotation issue is still there along with other disabled sensors.
What else should I backup and restore? Or what should be my next steps?
One always backs up the whole Stock Andoid before flashing anything. Only blue-eyed people do not.
