Restoring DRM Keys after root and bootloader unlock? - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I rooted my Z5 with unlocking bootloader and forgot to backup DRM keys. However, I found THIS that can apparently restore them even if you didn't back them up with a simple flash. Will it work? Or have I lost the DRM keys forvever? I am on Android 6.0.

This shouldn't be here but in Q/A topic !

Right.
Back on topic: Some, but not all, of the DRM -related functionality can be restored with a simple flash. Your DRM keys, however, are lost forever.
Carefully read over the post you linked to again. It is clearly stated that the keys can not be restored, but they can be simulated.

That no longer works on Android 6.0 . you can try a supported kernel like Sunkernel(Zach's kernel playground), Androplus Kernel or
OM5Z. All of them have DRM fix built into RAMdisk.
Hope that helps you.
Cheers!

TA will not affect camera in any way. The Z5 family will not remove BionZ when BL is unlocked. The blurry camera is probably a placebo(nocebo)

DRM Fix is a kernel thing, not releated for ROM. Custom roms has patched boot.img so you don't need any fix. If you want to back stock rom, you have to use patched kernel.

Flash SunKernel and your DRM will be fixed. For now, @zacharias.maladroit's Zach's SunKernel is the best kernel for the Xperia Z5 Series.
So, try it and u will definitely love it! Super performance, battery life, stability and function!!!

the drm fix don't generate keys! its just make the kernel believes that keys are there!
any updates in the upcoming months and devices if DRM FIX does not support then the issue rises!
there is NO substitute of LOST keys! there are just WORKAROUNDS!
@tobias original script do patch all z5 z5p kernels for MM, N to haux drmkeys/ta backups! however on XZ its not tested/supported
where @serajr 's unofficial rootkernel (extension to @tobias rootkernel script) creates munjeni's TA PoC in kernel making believe that ta partitions are there !
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71175804&postcount=2236
i wish you had ran DIRTY COW SCRIPT on MM before unlocking the bootloader and had EXTRACTED the KEYS

LB root and XZ?

Hi
I have had my XZ for about a month now after an Xperia Z3 Compact. With the Z3C it took a little while before developer achieved root on locked bootloader with confirmed backup of any TA-data. I seem to remember that there was a bounty up for grabs for a while as well.
However. I see no such efforts being made to the XZ... The only option is to unlock the bootloader and thus void your warranty. The warranty is never a problem with a locked bootloader as I've had my old Z3C in for service a few times without any problems....
From what I've been able to find out, there are not many vulnerabilities in any of the XZ kernels that can be used to get root. And any other weaknesses I haven't been able to find either.
A last resort would be to try K*ngo Root just to be able to install a recovery and backup the TA partition. Ugly, but if it would work you'd just flash a fresh romantic over it and it would be gone.
Anyone with other ideas out there?

Until now... the only way to get XZ rooted is unlocking bootloader (if you XZ support it) ... Before do it is recommendable that you make a TA backup (Universal (Dirtycow-based) TA Backup v2)... to make TA backup you need Marshmallow (downgrade if you are on Nougat).

XZ rom on xzs

H! i was wondering if we can flash xz android on xzs. Also what happens if i flash G8231 ftf on G8232?
Thanks in advance
In my opinion, most parts are same. CPU, Bluetooth, WLAN and so on. Only the camera needs separate driver. The version of Android are same. It's OK and the benefits will be a stable ROM.
The difference of the version are only more space on internal storage and a dual sim. No really much difference to needs a separate ROM image.

Thank you! I was thinking to downgrade to a xz rom and root without unlocking bootloader
I think that it should work. Everything seems to be same as in XZ, everything except camera, but for the moment it's not needed.
So It should be possible to Flash 6.0 for XZ, backup TA and than Unlock Bootloader without worrying about warranty.
However I'm not sure how You want to Root without unlocking as it's not possible on XZ?

You have to try it out for yourself. It should work and you should be able to backup your TA partition. Worst case scenario you can just reflash it back to stock XZs firmware with flashtool.
I tryed to flash xperia xz rom and it failed.. Will try again in 15 days that will have more time to look around amd report the result
What failed? Error in Flashtool?
It has some protection against flashing fws for wrong devices, so it probably have to be XZ rom build as XZs rom...
Hi everyone,
I'm considering buying an XZs but noticed that there are no custom roms in this forum. Since I use Anroid without Google I like to be sure that I can use my phone with a clean custom rom.
From this thread I understand that it should be possible to use the XZ roms on the XZs - has this since been confirmed?
Thanks and cheers for replying

Even if You will loose camera, as XZ has different module and drivers.
Only reason for flashing XZ rom to XZs is to make TA backup.

Sony Xperia XZ PREMIUM G8142 US Customized Android 9 Fingerprint?

I have the exact same question, that's the only thing holding me back to flash the us firmware. I have seen a tutorial on Reddit on Android 8 but I want to see what do the other people does first.
I would flash the central Europe version instead but I don't know the codename I think it is CE right?
CE1 is the correct generalized firmware wanted. If someone can figure out how to enable fingerprint on the US firmware that would be fantastic. I would love VoLTE and WiFi Calling alongside Fingerprint
I was able to do it, what I did was take certain files from CE1- put them into a new folder along with Newflasher and Partition folder and flash it...…..
I'll try and find the guide for you..

From what I seen that guide is incorrect. What you want to do is only install the libraries that enable the sensor. I have flashed the customized US version and I'll extract those libraries from another build that enables FP and make it a flashable zip.

Lol well what they said is true keeping drm keys is no longer important Sony doesn't require us to fake them anymore. Camera and Netflix work perfect in Pie. But unfortunately you'll need root as it modifies the system even if I created a prebuilt modified system the device verifies system on boot and you can only disable that by unlocking the bootloader.

AOSP is independent of Sony stock stuff.
It has its own enhancement stuff.
But at the moment the camera is not stable/complete.
That'll take some time.
I don't know if the Oreo drmfix guy is working on it or any other.

Just use xperifix.
The Oreo firmware is in my TWRP download link.
It can be installed with newflasher from XDA.
Xperifix needs to be installed in vendor & a/b mode.
Choose the magisk.zip too, but not the TWRP stuff.
And switch to selinux permissive via magisk.
