Mods I got these instructions from xda but I sort of made them non-technical for those who are new to unlocking, etc. It is my site and if you want to remove the instructions then that's okay and I understand. I borrowed heavily from

--------------HOW TO UNLOCK SAMSUNG 4G i997---------------------
Hello, I will give you step by step instructions on how to unlock your Samsung Infuse 4G or Samsung i997 so you can use it on T-Mobile. I will give full credit to sanfranx415 from xda forums but I wanted to do things a little different and I want to make the process a little more user friendly and less technical. We all get there eventually and I want to be has helpful as possible.
Step 1) Remember, your phone must be rooted. If your phone is already rooted and has a program called Superuser in the menu then slip Step 1. If not, here's a link http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-root-samsung-infuse-4g-on-android-2-2-with-superoneclick/ and if it ever goes down remember the program is called Superoneclick. Google it, download it and make sure your phone is in usb debugging mode, connect it to your computer while superoneclick is open and click root. It's that simple
Step 2) On your computer (not the phone), install a program called "010 Hex editor". Don't have to register Link is http://www.sweetscape.com/download/download_010editor.html . Remember you're installing this on your computer, not phone.
Step 3) On your phone go to the market and install terminal emulator https://market.android.com/details?id=jackpal.androidterm&hl=en . If the link changes just search for Terminal Emulator in Google. Remember you're installing this on your phone, not computer. Remember root must be installed, REMEMBER STEP 1?, for this program to work.
Step 4) On your phone, open up terminal emulator and you will see a blue screen. Don't be scared. I want you to correctly type the following EXACTLY...
TYPE THE FOLLOWING:
cd /dev/block
(then press enter)
---------------------------
TYPE THE FOLLOWING:
su
(then press enter, now your phone might ask for superuser permission, ALLOW it or say YES. You may not have to do this step, if it asked you before)
----------------------------
Now you will do one of the following below. Pay attention.
----------------------------
IF YOU HAVE AN EXTERNAL SD CARD TYPE THE FOLLOWING:
dd if=/dev/block/bml3 of=/sdcard/external_sd/bml3.bak
(then press enter)
IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN EXTERNAL SD CARD TYPE THE FOLLOWING:
dd if=/dev/block/bml3 of=/sdcard/bml3.bak
(then press enter)
Step 5) Now, find the file on your External SD card or Internal Storage depending on your situation and transfer it to your computer. If you don't know how to find the file. Plug your phone up and enable Mass Storage or Connect USB Storage. I won't baby you on how to find it. It should be somewhere on your phone or external SD card if you did step 4 correctly. Transfer that bml3.bak file to your computer. I recommend the desktop so will always know where it's at. You can delete it later if you want. So transfer it to somewhere on your computer.
Step 6) On your computer, open up 010 Hex Editor
Step 7) IMPORTANT: In 010 Hex Editor go to the Menus at the top and select VIEW then LINEFEEDS then SELECT CUSTOM, now SET YOUR BYTES TO "32" Nothing Less. If you don't do this, you won't find your unlock code. Do it.
Step 8) While you're in 010 Hex Editor, click Open and locate the bml3.bak file you created and open it. There will be a bunch of letters, numbers or whatever, ignore them for now.
(CREDIT TO FR0Z3N FOR CLARIFYING THE FOLLOWING 2 STEPS)
Step 9) Now press CTRL+F on your keyboard to search for a hex string. Now a box that says Find should pop up and when the search window pops up select "Hex bytes (h)" in the Type field by pushing the down arrow and then search for the following string below:
"FFFFFFFFFF0100000000" ALL TOGETHER WITH NO SPACES, Then Hit the FIND ALL button to the right, some of you will get many results and others up to 10 results on your screen below (not mine, someone else's computer)
http://www.traemcneely.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/step.jpg
Step 10) Now, if you look at your Hex editor there are 3 window panes on the selected line (See Image Below, my computer). IMPORTANT: scroll to the right using the scroll bar that's in the bottom, middle of the screen. You should see three windows panes.
http://www.traemcneely.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/laster.jpg
Step 11) This is where a lot of people are getting confused. So pay attention. Now, Do you see where it says Address Size and Value? Click the text or results under it and ABSOLUTELY MAKE SURE your scroll bar right above it is all the way to the right. It's important because when you click it your computer will try to bring the scroll bar to the left. So click it, and scroll to the right.
Step 12) Go through each result from the above search and you will see on the 3rd window pane (as shown on pic above) after the hex keys there is an 8 DIGIT CODE (Write this code Down) this is your unlock code NCK for your phone. Write it down somewhere NOW!!
Sidenote from Sanfranx415: SCAN THROUGH EACH RESULT AND YOU WILL SEE THAT IN YOUR RESULTS SOME OF YOU MAY GET UP TO 3 DIFFERENT 8 DIGIT CODES WRITE THEM ALL DOWN NORMALLY THE 8 DIGIT CODE THAT APPEARS THE MOST WILL BE THE ONE THAT UNLOCKS YOUR PHONE THE OTHER CODES MAY BE YOUR FREEZE CODE BUT I HAVE NOT TESTED THIS YET THIS 8 DIG CODE SHOULD SHOW ON AT-LEAST ONE MORE RESULT CHECK ALL YOUR RESULTS FROM THE SEARCH ABOVE( SOME OF YOU WILL HAVE YOUR CODE SHOWN AT-LEAST 2 TIMES AND SOME OF YOU WILL HAVE THE CODE SHOW MORE THAN 4 TIMES) YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY EVEN UP TO 39 RESULTS AGAIN SCAN THROUGH ALL RESULTS
Step 13) Okay, welcome back. Now I recommend that you take out your AT&T sim or whatever sim is in there, THEN turn off your phone. Insert the T-Mobile or other carrier sim card
Step 14) Turn on the phone and when you do you'll be prompted to enter a Network Unlock Control Key. Use the code that you received in step 12. You should have written it down somewhere like I instructed you.
Step 15) After you enter your NCK or Network Unlock Control Key hit Unlock, Yes, Go or whatever it says to proceed and it should say "network unlock successful"
VIOLA!!! Your Samsung Infuse 4G is now unlocked from AT&T.

Can I do this from overseas?
I am planning to buy an Infuse after my great experience with Captivate However I am outside US and would like to know if at any moment I need to actually be on the States or if I need the AT&T Sim at all to perform this unlocking procedure.
I am not the noob to Android phones, however I think that this question is fair

Yea i believe you have to have been a customer for a minimum of 5 years and if they do give you the unlock code, if/when approved you'll receive it in 24-48 hrs and you need to sign a separate contract, promising you'll be a lifetime customer of AT&T&T. Or something to that affect. Sounds about right for AT&T...

Help - Rooting not working
Nevermind - found the KIES drivers...
I just tired to do the rooting procedure and it just sticks on waiting for device.
I set the dev mode, but when I plug my phone into the USB my W7 x64 PCs (tired on 2 different pcs) give a driver not found error.
This is my first Android - was using W6.5 for years - would do a new ROM weekly, plus I am a developer, so noobie only on Android.
Please help.

You have to be a customer in good standing (bills paid), and I think they may only provide unlock codes for phones that have been on your account for 6 months (not sure about this one).
Kind of pointless for the Infuse though since you can pull an unlock code if rooted (that's the whole idea behind the original post).

Don't have an answer on this one at the moment. Maybe later tonight or someone else can help. Although it sounds like the issue is that you didn't install the drivers - I used SuperOneClick 1.9.5, it has two packages. One has drivers, one assumes you already have them. The "has drivers" package worked for me under Vista64. While SOC officially supports Linux, it has never worked from Linux for me.

On-topic- I used this and the other unlock code/root methods, both gave me the same, non-working code. Wish I could find the said few different ones to try, but it seems I'm pretty screwed with just 1 attempt left to unlock.
Installed Refuse v1.7, my guess it that it had a newer ATT radio, and my # of unlock attempts reset. The code, however, still did not work. Any ideas guys?
This thing works.... Thanks bro... Now im unlock to att... I got one.more thing. Can my unlocked infuse 4g can get the 4g network from tmobile? Cause im using a tmobile sim...

I can hlp if you can get me your bml3.bak file
i cant find the bml3.bak....how can i get it?
Just a quick tip for us "stoopid peeple": When you're in terminal emulator entering the DD command, don't use the Swype keyboard. Switch your keyboard to Samsung or Android. Swype is fantastic, but it'll automatically capitalize the "I" in "if". Linux is case sensitive and you'll get an "unknown operand If" error while trying to export the bml3 file. I tried to turn off the auto-capitalization feature on Swype, but, it went ahead and changed the case on "If", anyway.
I finally got it to work after temporarily switching to the Android keyboard. Smarter, more capable Swype users probably know how to make Swype behave itself while entering linux commands, but I don't.
Other than that, this procedure worked perfectly, and my AT&T Infuse is now unlocked and call tested on T-Mobile.
Just for reference, I ran this from the Infused 2.0.4 ROM.
Extra thanks to trae4nato!
I've unlocked a couple of AT&T smart phones (Tilt and Tilt II), and what I've found is that if you just call 611, and tell the helpdesk person that you're visiting Canada and you want to run your phone, temporarily on Fido or Rogers, they'll just give you the code and walk you through entering it, without a fuss.
On the other hand, going through this procedure was far more entertaining. Thanks for the info.
(Yes, I know the original post was a joke.)
I want to learn how to do it, if it is possible
It should be possible if you flash radio and hboot from some unlocked O3D...or if LG give us some new radio/hboot with Gingerbread update
Ok, thanks for the info. I guess I'll wait for some time, I'm not in a hurry anyway...
I'm considering buying this phone but have no clue how I can unlock it so I can use a different carrier. I'd like to make sure I can unlock the phone before I buy it.
Is there any information on unlocking the phone yet? I found lots of rooting topics but this is the only unlocking topic I've found.
Look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186406
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA Premium App
It seems I can't make a post on that topic as I'm too new and that's in the developer section.
It seems a lot of people are having issues with that guide and I'm too new to this to dare risking doing something with an incomplete guide.
I'm still trying to make sense of some things. I read a lot of things on how to root, but I haven't gotten a clear idea what things like ClockWorkMod is, or Romloader, or so forth.
I'm trying to get all my information before buying the phone so I can set it up with my carrier. I want to make sure I can root and unlock the phone before I get it. Also I'm trying to find information on how to back up or factory reset it if need be.
Hi,
The procedure http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186406 is complete and it works with xp. People are problems with windows 7.
Now if you're not clear on the terms I can give you a link that will explain a few terms used.
http://durgeshbhat.wordpress.com/2011/07/26/custom-rom-android-device-flash-clockwork-where-do-i-start/
For "root" You're lucky to start with the lg optimus 3d ... the bootloader is not locked.
What mean you can root in one click with the right program for your pc.
"SuperOneClick"
For "recovery Mod" clockworksmod 4.0.0.9 you will have to install the "RomManager" apk on your phone. It is available on Android Market.
For "Custom ROM and Debrand" ... Come back here when you have the phone and you'll be ready for the first two steps ... I help you if you need it !
Thanks very much for the reply.
So just to make clear your tutorial at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186406
This will debrand/unlock sim correct?
I want to make sure it will work with MTS (Manitoba Telephone Service) as a carrier.
To what I understand Clockworksmod is used for making backups and there's another one called Titanium for backing up apps and data right?
I think I'm starting to get the idea of how to do this. The ROMs part still eludes me but there's that RomManger I'm curious about too.
I have experience with other devices. I've so far flashed a PAP2 adapter, Ipod color (classic), Linksys router, and a couple of other odds and ends. It seems smart phones are a very different thing though.
Has there been any issues with the phone's 3D ability and any modding? Oddly this phone has better specs than most other phones I've looked at yet it's much cheaper than other phones too. It's actually cheaper than the Nexus S, HTC Desire, and Galaxy S II, but seems to have better specifications.
Yes it Debrand/unlock service operator.
Clockworksmod made a "backup Nandroid" that is a sort of backup of your system with all setting and applications.
Titanium backup is primarily used for backup and restore applications (. Apk)
But can also remove applications system.
Since you have experience with other devices ...
The ROM is the OS of the machine.
You can cook this ROM to make it faster, other original applications, another look ... and so.
How, and at what point do I enter in the APN settings on the phone so I can use my carrier? These needed to be manually entered on a friend's phone but I wasn't present to see how he did it.
Where do you go to enter these settings?
After you are flash . KDZ
The phone is "sim free".
So you can put any sim card it.
This is not true, it is not network sim unlocked. I wasted an entire night doing this to find out the sim is still locked

Hi there friends!
I'm live in Germany and the MT4GS is my favorite Android phone to date (have a HTC Dream right now ) and found a very good ebay deal, however I will purchase a locked device. (The MT4GS is not available for purchase in Germany)
So what exactly is the worst thing to happen when I receive it in Germany? Will it just say "enter code, because your not in the statez!" and do nothing? Or will everything work, it just won't accept my SIM-Card or not connect to the network?
I'm going to then get root and s-off if I need and try the kindly posted methods by you great guys for unlocking a rooted device. Feedback if someone successfully did it would be great, but of course I can have a look at the threads too.
Is there any other thing I might run into? Did I overlook something? It'll probably be difficult to return it if things don't work out.
Thanks so much for feedback and help!

if you actually put a sim card in and start it up, it'll ask for an unlock code and you won't be able to do anything else (except make an emergency call of course). if you boot it with no sim card it'll work fine with no cell connection.
you can root it and do the trick to get the unlock code, all without inserting a SIM, then shut it down, insert a SIM card, and enter the unlock code to unlock it. I did that, it worked fine. Had to mess about a little bit with shuttling apk's onto an SD card to get the necessary tools to do the rooting installed, but it wasn't too tricky. Took me an hour or so. I wouldn't expect you'll have too much trouble.
What Adam said.
Just get S-OFF and use one of the SIM unlocking methods provided on the forum.
Expect to pay high taxes though...
Thank you guys! So happy you are here for us )
Yeah I know, taxes. But it's still freakin' cheap for a new dualcore phone. With qwerty. yay. Thanks for the warning!
Which method did you use to unlock?
Will come back here if any problems will occur.

The one that's linked from the sticky. I advise installing the 'bad' CWM though, contrary to what the guide says, because the manual flash method is a bit of a pain, and now ROM Manager supports our phone, it's trivial to update to a fixed CWM via rom manager after rooting.
Ok, thank you again!
I just noticed, some websites say the MT4GS comes with Android 2.3 preinstalled. If they already put the new firmware on it before shipping then I'll have no chance of rooting and s-off'ing as of now, right? It's probably a mistake because it's upgradable... but still wanted to ask you guys.
shadow, do you know what taxes exactly? Will I have to pay "Mehrwertsteuer"/ sales tax/ added value tax as well as "Zoll"/ tarif tax? And how much % for the latter?
Reply would be most helpful

correct, atleast until a new exploit is found or htc fixes its bootloader unlocking procedure
Yeah, if you get one with new firmware you're SOL. Maybe buy an actual second hnad one and check with the seller they didn't do the OTA update.

Yea, copying and pasting it from the Windows cmd prompt make it a PITA.
Just be careful to only get the letters/numbers - don't copy . or "INFO", etc. They mention this all on the site, I just completed the process .
Before I get into it, let me just start by saying that I have spoken to MetroPCS and they have confirmed that this phone was specifically set up to use the "Device Unlock" app ONLY, which means that there are no unlock codes or any other procedures(not Chimera or any other one) that will unlock this device.
For those of you who don't know too, you MUST wait until after 90 days of service with MetroPCS on this device before you can unlock it. If you can't wait the 90 days, however, because you're going to travel or because you live outside of the country, I've been told that there is one other way to unlock this device through a third party service that works with MetroPCS and helps you unlock through the app as well, though it is more like "IMEI whitelisting" than an official unlock like you get with MetroPCS and you also have to pay.
---------------
Anyhow, now to get down to it. Here is the information on what you must do.
---------------
1) Wait The 90 Days - Actually, you should know first that MetroPCS does not count the extra day in the months with 31 days as part of the 90.[/B] In other words, if you bought your phone on the 10th of one month say, you have to wait for the 10th to come around again 3 months later.
2) Try Unlocking The Device - Go to the "Device Unlock" app in your app tray and try clicking on the "Permanent Unlock" button to see if it just works for you right away. I was not so lucky myself, but I've been told that it does simply just unlock for some people. If it did unlock that easily for you, then congratulations. That's it. You're done.
(NOTE: Make sure that it is actually unlocked though. See the attached images and step #4 below.)
---------------
If it still isn't unlocked after steps 1 & 2, then please read on...
---------------
3) Call MetroPCS - If it won't unlock, then MetroPCS may have placed a server side lock on your account for whatever reason. In this case, you will need to just call Metro and request that they go into their system and set "Allow Unlock" to "ON" for your device. It only takes them a few seconds to do, but the first 3 people I called some days before didn't even mention or seem to know that their system had this feature, so you have to ask. After they did this for me I was able to successfully unlock the device using the app.
4) Double Check That Your Device Is Actually Unlocked - After unlocking the device the app says that the "Device Is Permanently Unlocked"[/B] and prompts you to reboot. After rebooting though I recommend that you open the "Device Unlock" app again and make sure that it no longer contains the reboot menu(shown in the first picture attached below). If it keeps saying to reboot because the settings are not yet applied, then you are still not unlocked. You want it to look like the second picture I attached below and NOT the first. Try rebooting a few more times to see if this problem fixes itself.
(NOTE: If you still can't unlock fully and have rooted the device and have TWRP and the Xposed framework installed, then you can also try installing an Xposed module called "Good For Enterprise Disable Root Check" to see if that allows the unlock settings to apply. Otherwise just call Metro again to make sure you are unlocked.)
Anyhow, I sincerely hope this information helps you guys in unlocking your device!

Thanks for the input. I don't know much about boxes or how they might bypass MetroPCS's server side lockdown on this device, but I'm assuming they're some sort of universal hacker tool that you hook phones up to and that you have to buy. Probably not a viable solution for most people. Sounds just sketchy enough too to maybe cause your phone's IMEI to get blacklisted. Perhaps there's no other option for those outside of the country who can't get MetroPCS service though? I don't know. :/
Outside US or if you dont want to pay 3 months of 50$ each (i like metro pcs, and use metropcs when in usa, but mostly im away and rather to pay an unlock to mantain the line) You have to pay an imei whitelisting for unlock device app. I found one 100% working for 24$, many cheaper or expensive were suspicious. PM if you want to know

Could you explain please?
Thank you,
~ Andrew S.S.
EDIT: So after a quick google search it is fairly obvious what it is.
So all I have to do is wait 90 days, then call them asking for them to unlock my device, then run Device Unlock and my device will be unlocked?

Yeah, it's awesome! After the unlock you can switch your phone to any service provider, but best if all you can use temporary international sim cards if you ever go outside the country and have regular service elsewhere while you travel and just put your MetroPCS account on hold in the meantime. Right now you can not though. Just wait the 90 days and just use the Device Unlock app that should be in your phone after that. If it doesn't work after 90 days of continuous service on this phone, then you do have to call them though and ask them to allow the unlock on their end in their system first. Read my post again maybe for more details about that. Also, it's not really 90 days, it's 3 months to the day, which means the 3rd to the 3rd of the month or the 10th to the 10th of the month or whatever. Hope this helps. Mine's unlocked now and I'm happy.

I have had service for well over 90 days, but I have not had this phone for over 90 days. Can I still do it?

No. It's 3 months of service with this device.

Alright thanks
So I removed the unlock app... is there anywhere I can install it back from?
I happen to have one with me now and the device unlock app always shows
"Server not responding please try again later"

Unfortunately no. I've tried extracting the apk for people, but it can't be installed properly because it's hardwired into the system.
To get the unlock app on your device again you will either have to...
1) Download the official stock firmware from here and reflash it with ODIN:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/53271/G360T1UVU1AOFA_G360T1TMB1AOFA_TMB/
(Instructions are on that page and no data is lost during this painless flashing process.)
Or...
2) Install SlimPickins rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63868639
It's a much lighter, debloated, version of our stock firmware(which saves you lots of space on your phone). I'm running it myself, but it requires you to have installed...
Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62859013
And...
TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62955166
Also, you have to install GAPPS(the Google suite with apps like Play Store, etc) separately at the same time you install the rom. This allows you to pick how much space Google apps take up on your phone and which apps you do and do not want.
Anyhow, either option will give you the Device Unlock app back.

Try connecting via Wi-Fi instead of data. If that doesn't work then try restarting your device and attempting with Wi-Fi again. If it still doesn't work, then it is likely their server being bogged down, so just try waiting awhile(possibly up to a day). Also, I'm sure you are, but just in case you're not, you must be in the US for the app to work.

Not in use bro, seems you are right.I"ll just leave the phone till good reliable unlock is available
Device unlock
Aside from all these extra steps it's pretty easy. I just open my app drawer and opened 'Device Unlock'. Right at the top it said permanent unlock so i clixked it, after 10 seconds if asked if I wanted to reboot. Once it finished rebooting it completely removed the device unlock and said it was permanently done . So if you don't feel like talking to metro to do it just try with the app it worked for me. Saved me 20 mins of being on hold. And shout out to Bogarty and everyone else working to optimize our device !!

Glad it worked for you right off the bat. It didn't for me. Mine was locked on their end. People should definitely just try the app first. That's good advice. Maybe I should include that in the OP. Thanks! They do still have to wait the 90 days of service though as I'm sure you did. Everyone just needs to make sure it no longer shows the reboot menu in the app after rebooting like in the pictures I posted. It may say "device is permanently unlocked", but if they still see reboot options, then the unlock settings have not yet been applied. Mine didn't apply the first few times because of a conflict between security settings and root. Curious if you were rooted at the time as that can pose some issues on some devices as I mentioned.

Definitely had to wait 90 days and then some.
But the unlocking itself like I said was about 10 secs and a reboot.
Were you rooted when you unlocked the phone ?

Yes. So far all I had done was the root.
