How can I remove the + sign on outgoing/incoming calls? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note5

Hey everyone! I just bought myself a Verizon Note 5 (SM-N920V) and I bought an unlock code in order to use a prepaid service here in the USA. My Cricket sim card works fine (Data, calls, etc). The only issue is that every time I do an outcall, there is a plus sign (+) that automatically appears after I press the green call button. Same thing with incoming calls. It is an issue because it does not recognize my already saved contacts on incoming and when I do an outgoing call, it thinks I'm doing a international call because of the + sign which is a hassle. Is there a way I can permanently remove this from the system? Thanks.

You didn't even need to buy any unlock code for the Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 because ALL Verizon variants are already sim unlocked so you got ripped off!! Check and see if there's an update for the phone using Smart Switch on a Windows computer..

Yea. I know. It's okay. It was only $10. I updated it using Smart Switch a couple of days ago and it still gives me that plus sign.

Try downgrading then back to Lollipop. If that doesn't work then I don't know what to tell you without root access..

Alright I understand. Can you provide me with the way to root the device? Maybe sending me a link to the instructions? How would I remove the plus sign even after I root? Do you think installing CM or a custom made ROM is better than a the default?

Lol!! That's not going to happen on the Verizon variant phone! There's no root access as of yet or CM.. You're basically stuck. Don't ever buy Verizon for that matter.

any way to turn on without activating?

i received my Verizon Galaxy SIII yesterday. i would like to turn it on and use it with just wi-fi for now before i de-activate my Droid X. is that possible?
Just turn it on without the SIM card they included. No SIM, no activation.
I thought the Verizon gs3 phones had no SIM?
In Most Verizon phones the way to bypass activation is by two ways.
Old way: straying from top going clockwise tap all four corners sequentially.
That probably won't work, so if the sim thing doesn't work, power off phone or reboot, as soon as Andy appears just start tapping in him. But you have to do this pretty quick. This will bypass activation.
This method has worked on all my Verizon phones. Can't verify gs3 though.
The other for sure way is to return your phone and go with at&t!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I was able to cancel activation on my GS3 and connect via wifi for testing. I would hope you could do the same on any carrier.
I'm a non-Verizon customer looking to bypass activation also.

This doesn't work, just prompts to restart the phone or allow emergency calls. And the dialer you get with the emergency dialer doesn't seem to allow any of the ## *# type codes.

Unfortunately they have LTE Sims so there are issues with getting the new LTE devices rolling on other carriers from what I've read.
Been out of the phone scene for better than 5 years, got a bit of catching up to do...
I did this with my Sprint version with no issues, just cancelled the activation process.
Played with it for several days before activating
Hope you find a way to do this with your version

bump this thread - i'm trying to figure this out as well. the 4 corners trick and *#testmode both do not work. andy the android does not pop up in the stock rom verizon version on start up.
i just wanna use the s3 over wifi until my case and screen protector come in. not taking this phone out in the wild nekkid. lol
thanks
Has there been any update on this. My gs3 is just chilling in my drawer because I can't use it until mid august. But I would love to play around with it though.

Using the Samsung S3 as wi-fi only device

I'm thinking about buying a used Verizon Samsung S3 from a friend of mine.
Since my AT&T contact doesn't run out for a few months... I'd like to buy his Verizon S3 today... and just use it as a wi-fi only device for the next few months. (No Verizon contract, No SIM, No cell calls, etc.)
Possible? Without rooting? Would I need to buy a blank Verizon SIM? Where?
Thanks.
You probably won't need a blank SIM; just pull the LTE SIM from the phone. CDMA connectivity, on the other hand, is built into the phone. You'll probably have to get Verizon to deactivate the device. Interestingly enough, my old cellphone (from my previous 2--year contract with Verizon) gets service when I boot it up, so I don't think it's as simple as activating a new phone on the line will deactivate the old one.

I do *NOT* want to activate my new phone. I do *NOT* want any Verizon coverage. (I'm trying to get *WI FI* only.)
should work fine
just deactivate the phone and take the sim card out
the phone will report no sim card and will only allow 911 calls
other then that you can use it as a wifi device just fine
^^^Yup. When I upgraded my phone, I can use my old phones on WiFi with no issues. I do it all the time. I even flash ROMs on them still, lol.
You can do it just fine. Turn it on, connect WiFi and have at it. Doesn't matter youre not a customer or that the phone was never activated. You dont need to contact Verizon for ANY of this at all, either.

Running the phone after Factory Data Reset Without Verizon SIM, How ?

Hello guys,
After loosing my HTC ONE X on the street a week ago, I bought from some guy an almost brand new GALAXY S3 without knowing it is a VERIZON version.
I live in Israel so i had no idea what is the meaning of buying a device that will work only on Verizon network, we only have GSM here.
The guy i bought it from also had no idea what it means as his father bought it on the US and brought it here wishing to sell it as he had no use in it.
Without realizing the mistake I've made, I then made another one, Taking out the VERIZON SIM CARD and giving it back to the owner!
I thought to myself... well... that's his SIM CARD, not gonna be using that one...
Well, i got home to find out i'm in trouble with this deal I've made, i searched for a way to unlock it for GSM networks and i saw that here in XDA someone made it possible.
As i started working on it i had to download from Google play an application, when i was asked to pay for it i saw it's running on the old owners google account, so i decided i don't wanna pay with my credit while he might get the receipt for it and i figured i should do a Factory Data Reset for the phone and start from point zero the whole process.
Sadly i had no idea i'm doing another big mistake because when the phone finished the reset it asked for a VERIZON SIM CARD in order to run, well you know where that SIM Card is - back at the previous owner and i'm not even sure i will be able to track him down again.
I wish to get this device working without any traces of Verizon, maybe beside the name on the back panel of the device.
Now that the device won't even run without the SIM, what should i do ?
Thanks in advance,
Ohad.

Thanks but i was able to track down the previous owner and get the verizon sim card.
I found away to use it on GSM but still im very disappointed because im not sure there´s a real way to remove any trace for the verizon stuff installed here and there are few errors like it is connected to the provider but it says no verizon sim card connected.
and im not so sure all the device's frequencies are "open" for my provider.
I was wondering if there's any option to burn an international galaxy version to the device and it will bypass all of these issues.

not unless you want paperwieght for a device.
Why don't you just flash CM10 or similar to get rid of all the VZW stuff.... that's what I did.

Not sure how to do so, but either way i'm not sure i will get the device working completely normally with my local SIM card on a gsm network, without bugs, without asking me to put a verizon sim card all the time, without having any option to update the device...
I dunno, i thought i could easily get this Galaxy version to become unlocked completely and get it running like all the other guys around...
Unless anybody here have a good recommendation about what should i do to overcome the verizon and networks issues, maybe i should just sell this guy on ebay and get a normal version...
Do you think this would be a smart move to do ?
Beemer - after you flash the CM10, do you still need to unlock the device and do you still get issues running on other than Verizon providers or do you enjoy a device that is similar to the worldwide versions ?
Thanks,
Ohad.
If you flash an international ROM on a Verizon S3, your phone will no longer power on or do anything useful. That's why it will become a paperweight. Flashing an international ROM on your Verizon S3 is one of the easiest ways to make it useless.
International=quad-core us=s4 processor, very different guts.I'd listen to the ppl on this forum, unless you want to end up with a paper weight.

Know it works on Touchwiz roms. It may not be in AOSP based roms.
Well, i flashed CM10 successfully, i was able to receive and send SMS before with the Stock ROM, and also to make/receive phone calls but i had sim card issues and errors and also some unwanted Verizon apps and stuff.
After updating the device to the latest Verizon version, i couldn't make phone calls, just receive and i could send and receive SMS.
Now that device runs much faster on the CM10 and i can make/receive phone calls but i can't send SMS.
*UPDATE: I have updated to the latest CM10 version, now i can't connect to the provider at all... no internet/phone/sms at all.
SOS
Ok, Im going to try a different tactic, i saw some people tried flashing At&t Roms on their verizon devices and they done it with success.
So far i tried doing it twice, one time with CM10 ROM for at&t, the 2nd time with stock at&t ROM.
I've tried doing it through CWM.
Both times i got an error while installing... it just didn't move on.
Luckly i had the CM10 for the verizon Zip file over there aswell so i installed that ROM again just to get the device running.
Any ideas how to flash the AT&T ROM on the Verizon Device ???

NumberSync S3 on AT&T

I'm unable to get it setup on my Note4. I get the incredibly useful message "Backend error" from the AT&T site after I enter the sync code on their site.
Is this a temporary issue you think, or is it just the usual incompetence of an inept software developer who can't be bothered to give meaningful results to help narrow down the cause of an error?
Is it working for everyone else?
Yep, getting the same error message. Hope this is temporary!
I was having a similar issue. On my Gear S3 when trying to get the sync code, it kept giving an error message. Finally after 9:30 central time I was able to generate the code and get it synced. I think the system was overloaded with all the at&t pre-orders being delivered yesterday.
Anyone have AT&T S3 but linking to S7E 935F International phone? Keep trying to set up Numbersync but it connects to my wife's 935A. It won't see my phone. I am running Hydra Rom but the watch is connected with Bluetooth no problem.
For numbersync to be setup, you have to have a username for myatt for that exact phone. Then it will allow you to setup numbersync if that phone is HD voice capable.
I set it up on my Axon 7 without any problems.
Just tried again, same error message

According to AT&T International S7E (Exynos) is not compatible with LTE Frontier watch on AT&T due to no HD voice? Can use Bluetooth, but not the Numbersync. I'm pretty PO'd right now as that was why I bought it.
Anybody getting this to work yet?
I have not been able to get it to work. I am using an unlocked tmobile note 4. When I called I was told it was because it was not an at&t phone. What if I change the build prop to 910A from 910T? Would that be enough for it to work? Dont want to try and mess things up.

Hi I'm new to this forum. Like OP, I also have a Note 4 ATT LTE and had the same Numbersync error. Here is how I resolved my issue after extensive research:
1) Make sure to enable HD Voice on your phone if supported (for Note 4: Settings->More networks->Mobile networks->Mobile data->check Enhanced LTE Services (mine was unchecked)
2) Before even attempting to sync via Numbersync, make sure that your cell phone number is set as primary in My ATT account. I didn't have a primary number set, so I tried making the Gear S3's number primary (when I was prompted to add one) and it didn't work properly. So I learned it's essential your PHONE (the one you intend to connect with S3) is set as primary, NOT another phone/tablet/wearable line in your account.
3) After all the initial errors and hassles thereafter, I just reset the S3 after following my above instructions and the sync was seamless and I was up and running.
Hope this helps...it certainly worked for me!

The red pointer is for the chronograph function. It does not move unless you tap it to start the chrono. Bad design in my opinion.
Soo no one here might have an iPhone they were able to get numbersync to work on with the leaked iOS app?
Has anyone got Numbersync to work on International S7E 935F?
I have number sync working with my Nexus 6P, spent about an hour in the AT&T store working with the salesperson that sold me my Frontier. He was under the belief that it was tied to IMEI numbers so he supposedly cloned my wife's IMEI number to my 6P which didn't work. I told him that I read that HD Voice/VoLTE had to be enabled and because I had a Nexus 6P that was the problem. So he called support and asked them to enable HD Voice on my line. While he was doing that I was googling, found this thread: https://forums.att.com/t5/Device-Features/Nexus-6P-No-HD-Voice-and-Wifi-Calling/td-p/4346076 and followed this guide:
Navigate to Settings > More > Cellular Networks and enable the toggle switch for "Enhanced" 4G LTE Mode. However, if the toggle is missing then follow the steps provided below:
Launch the Dialer app on your phone, and dial*#*#4636#*#*.
Choose Phone information.
Enable or select VoLTE Provisioned Flag.
Restart the phone.
Go to Settings " More " Cellular networks and toggle the switch for Enhanced 4G LTE Mode, and the HD Voice calling feature should now be activated on your device running Android 5.1 and above.

I enabled the VoLTE option, restarted my phone and sure enough when I went back into the MyATT webpage I was now offered the ability to enter in a sync code and it worked. He was never able to get support to enable HD Voice on their end. Going back into the setting it shows that VoLTE isn't active, I have no HD Voice option or feature in the Enhanced 4G LTE options at all but my number is indeed synced. I left my phone at home, walked the dogs and made 2 phone calls and the number did go over as my cell number.
Now the other thing he mentioned that should work is to use an approved AT&T phone that has HD Voice capabilities enabled. Then if I were to put my SIM in that phone, wait for the MyATT webpage to update showing that this other phone was tied to my number, then perform the number sync at this point it should also work, once it's enabled it won't go away according to the ATT rep. I didn't need to do that so I can't confirm but it sounds reasonable.

s3 frontier with att and s8 galaxy unlocked phone numbersync is a no go?

I spent over 2 hours last nite with att reps trying to enable numbersync to work between the s3 and s8 phones.. the s8 phone is an unlocked phone (not bought through att), only to find out today via another rep that the phone must be bought via ATT or truly att branded.. which i find a bit absurd, as i think others have succeeded..
Is this really the case.. anyone know or have this same experience?
Specifically this error would appear after going through the get started via the watch then on the phone (after creating a seperate accessid):
Oh darn! We can't enable device syncing on this phone. Want to find out more? Call us at 800.331.0500 so we can help.
(MSSITWINREL12)
If this turns out to really be an unlocked phone issue (which is a bit ridiculous), i think i read that it might be possible to take my sim card out of that phone and put in another phone that is att branded, enable number sync then put the card back in my s8 and go from there
Thanks
The phone does not have to be AT&T branded, I have a T-Mobile Note 4 and until the last update numbersync worked. Updated my S# over the weekend after avoiding it for as long as possible, and now numbersync is no longer an option on my S3.

Thanks for the reply.. your saying you had an unlocked tmobile phone on att and it was working till a recent tizen update then?
The rep further told me to take the phone to the best buy samsung experience store and have it flashed with the att firmware to get around this issue.. maybe not needed then? (which i assume means a wipe and possibly lose my unlock)
I had the same problem with my Gear S3 and my Axon 7. Worked on for a solid hour with an ATT rep in store and another hour on phone with someone else. Finally it was determined that it wouldn't work on an unlocked phone. Haven't tried the sim swap with an ATT branded device yet, but if I do, I'll let you know if it works.

Spoke to an att rep again today who called me.. basically in my case the 950U1 s8 phone.. because its this model it wont work with numbersync they say.. they also contradicted the previous reps suggestion of taking the phone to the samsung experience place and having the att firmware flashed on it (or doing it at home).. saying it wont help.. that they need HD voice provisioned and it wont let them provision it (the phone wont).. they said swapping the sim card to a real att phone only may help for a short period, till the system does a sweep, sees a non att phone and reverts it (same with just adding the imei to the database).. There is also a good chance the recent update to either the s3 or the samsung s8 caused numbersync to do a detection for unlocked phones and not allow this (they indicated).
They said i could still try doing the firmware flash but it probably wouldnt work (i dug around online trying to find out which flash it would be and i didnt get too far, short of going to the store to do it at best buy samsung experience)
Really sucks, as the alternative, if i were that desperate to enable this feature (i dont think i am willing to go this far) would be to sell the old phones and get new att branded ones.. end up costing me the price of a new watch in the mix just to do that

When I first bought the watch it was for the numbersync feature. My first problem was even though the Samsung rep and the bestbuy rep said that it would work with my Note3, it did not. took several calls and many hours of trying to figure out the HD Voice (VOlte) provisioning. Bought a TMobile Note 4, rooted and rom'ed this worked to setup numbersync. the only problem was it would occasionally turn off numbersync, this occurred about once a month. Then if failed completely said that this line is not accceptabl;e for numbersync. this was after about six months. Discovered that it appeared to be age of firmware related, I was on a TM firmware that was several updates out of date. When I odin flashed the latest firmware numbersync worked again until the recent update to 3.0.0.1 on the gear firmware. Now I have the line not acceptable for numbersync again. I'm going to try to update firmware again to see if that works. If not I will probably look to change carriers to TM. will cost the price of a new watch, but will get me out of AT&Ts locked boot loader.
BTW, setting up numbersync on a different phone and switching back will not work, Tried several times and as soon as you turn on the phone that is not HD Voice capable with your SIM card in it the system sees it and turns off numbersync almost instantly. went throught that trying to get my Note 3 to work.
In all my experience the Samsung and AT&T reps were not a good resource. Numbersync does not appear to be a very popular feature and they do not know much about it.

My main motivation for it has been that.. someone correct me if this isnt accurate.. if your phone dies or is off.. when you dial someone from the watch or text them it will still show the cell phone phone number, not the watch phone number as it does now if bluetooth isnt on.
I'm in the process of gathering the files i need to do the att firmware flash and hopefully hd voice works then (as others say it has).

Yes, that is the whole point of numbersync. The watch uses the phones number not it's own.
Tried updating to the latest firmware and a ROM based on it. No luck still get a rather comical response "Oh darn! We can't enable device syncing on this phone. " worked until the tisen update.
There also seems to be confusion on numbersync with the att reps.. one person told me the watches dont need their own numbers.. that numbersync is all we need (but how would the watch make a call if the phone is off).. another said yes they need external numbers for number sync or solo
edit: i see your last post.. so the latest reps are correct then.... so they assigned us numbers and $10 access fees each with activation fees for no reason basically.. ugh
The watch has to have it's own number, that is it's address on the network. Without it numbersync would have no way to send calls to it. Same as with the LTE enabled iPads they could not make a call, but had to have an address on the cellular network.
Just a quick note...i too spent 3 hours in an AT&T store trying to get numbersync to work..., finally returned the S3 Frontier cancelled the number in it and left frustrated...i now have a GS8 unlocked on AT&T through my work...that is synced to a Verizon Gear S3 Classic lte and i simply use call forwarding with YouMail. If i do not answer my phone after 3 rings it gets sent to my watch and if I still do not answer then Youmail picks it up..If I call out or text with the watch separately then I just let my customers know that I have 2 numbers 1 for my cell and one for their watch. I just don't think AT&T is ready for the Numbnersync technology yet and they just don't care enough to train their own people on it, sad as it is a good promise...

I meant phone number.. are you saying phone number? After the rep said i didnt need a phone number for each watch, she credited me back the cost of the two lines and said just to contact them that they would enable the numbersync once i had the phones ready.. I'm assuming number means imei, which they still have in the system.
Yes each watch has to have it's own phone number. I believe this is another case of AT&T rep not understanding number sync.
I managed to firmware update so that i have the att bloatware (didnt even need reset, all software was kept).. i confirmed HD voice is working but WiFi calling throws an error to contact ATT.. hd voice was the key for numbersync.. however.. despite this.. and 2 hours on the chat line with ATT.. i still get an error when you do the s3's get started numsync and it opens the page on the phone.. the oops, device sync cant work with your phone (which went from a 950U1 to a 950U btw, which is good as well).. They escalated to another backend team, but i highly doubt they will get it working.. most likely they'll still complain that my phone (was) an unlocked phone, despite adding the att firmware to it.

Update here.. i managed to get everything working by going with a new sim card.. wifi calling works now.. and i was able to complete numbersync setup.. the only remaining issue i have is that my callerid seems to be blocked on the receiving end.

With the Firmware did you have to go through the full process where you changed the CSC and flashed the ATT firmware? Currently I am running a Sprint phone that is unlocked an running the US Unlocked firmware. Even running the ATT firmware they still were not able to get HD Voice or WiFi calling working for me.

The full steps, or mostly full.. are here in this thread..
The short of it was that i only ran regular odin at first.. just did HOME_CSC (using the verizon firmware which covers all carriers).. then rebooted the phone and did all the check boxes and the regular CSC.. after rebooting nothing was wiped and att bloatware was there... at this point hd voice was working.. wifi calling wasnt.. so i went to the store, got a new sim card today, then wifi calling was working.. numbersync took the code on the phone without error.. however.. now i'm realizing it isnt really working.. when i turned the phone off, and texted, it showed my s3 phone number.. and my callerid is still botched.. i think att botched something in this whole process.. so yet another call to them needed.

Thanks. It sounds like the latest firmware they did seems to fix some of the issues from bringing a non-ATT phone over but does not resolve everything. It looks like I won't be able to do this though. ATT and the ebay seller are unable to clear the ICCID on my watch, I have to sadly do a return now.
Kinda unrelated, yet ATT was horrible even for normal Sammy phone/watch. After dumping ATT service/hardware for various reasons a few moths back... Sammy watch/phone from Verizon hardware/service works flawlessly. Am carrier neutral, but one works reliably, one didn't.
BTW, Sammy pay via watch hiccuped via ATT at times, yet works flawless via Verizon.

well 5 chat people later they finally fixed the unknown callerid issue.. apparently there is an internal back end feature for numbersync regarding it set to active and on.. both toggles were on.. the rep removed the "on" and now my callerid shows my number when calling from my phone (and from the watch when watch is in solo mode too).. everything works!
