The Note 7 (Snapdragon) is one of the very first phones to support USB 3.1 (aka USB 3.1/gen 2) and is thus the first to be technically Type C compliant. This is NOT the same as the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, LG G5 or HTC 10. Cables you've used for these products are not the same as what we're looking for in regards to the Note 7.
Here you will find links to cables that meet the correct specifications for a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type A to Type C connector
***The American Snapdragon Note 7 is USB 3.1 and comes with a cable that supports USB 3.1 @ 10Gbps with a 3A output for charging.

The snapdragon variant note 7 has 3.1 I believe.
There is no such thing as USB C 3.1, it's one or the other. USB 3.1 or USB C, they run at the same speeds but have different connections.
**Edit, I'm skimming thru at work and just saw the whole thing. My bad.**

I went ahead and bought this five pack from Aukey (never had a problem with them) for $25.

I'm not specifically sure which ones these are without a link to them but from looking up Aukey on Amazon, they do not appear to have any USB-C 3.1 cables yet.
Sorry I'm still a new user so I can't post links. It looks like the 5 pack is sold out . They have a 3 pack of 3 foot cables available for $17.

I'm glad you noticed that, damn I thought they were 3.1. It was still a good deal though so no harm, guess I might have to find me a 3.1 cable just for my pc, so I can get the fastest transfer speed from my SSD. I like to put new movies on my phone everyday so I'm not bored at work
If you end up finding a good one let me know.

Reading reviews, this one fails the Check-r App check. This means it is not compliant. Stay away from this one.

According to the reviews these are not genuine cables.
United Integral says that this is a "Blackberry" cable and even uses a picture (illegally) of a Blackberry cable, an OEM one. This cable is NOT Blackberry and doesn't work as a data and charging cable for my phone. DO NOT PURCHASE this if you want a cable that works.

Ah ok, yes that is true. samsung has had crappy usb cables for years. The longer, softer rubber cable that comes with the tmo galaxy 4g seems to be of better quality than the harder, less flexible cable that came with my epic...

Same thing as the stock cable, they just work better. The stock cable is about as useful as a sack of poop.
$40 + shipping is really too much for me. So I decided to take the plunge and get one of the Deconn adapters that have been floating around on ebay. Interestingly enough, the functionality is just as good as the OEM Analogix adapters.

I purchased my unit from kangyi2011 (link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261249574227) for $18, including shipping. The only colour available was white—which looks surprisingly good in contrast to my pitch black Nexus 4 and TV—as if it is highlighted in a dark sea of modern electronics. You can clearly see the Slimport branding on the adapter even though it is not OEM.
UPDATE: A quick ebay search showed me that the adapter is now available in black, and has an additional micro usb cable for charging, which was not included with my unit.
The build quality of the adapter is quite good, as all of the parts seem to be pieced together securely. The ports are solid and the micro usb cable plugs in easily and securely to my phone.
In addition to the HDMI port, there is a micro usb port on the other side of the adapter to allow for charging during use. This is a very important feature as I noticed that my Nexus' battery drained very quickly while mirroring, even at minimum brightness.
HDMI port
Micro usb charging port
As I mentioned earlier, the adapter works perfectly, mirroring my Nexus 4's screen at native 1080p. It is fully compatible with Android 4.3 and its updates; i.e. screen does not force into landscape now. I have not included any pictures of the adapter during use because it has the same functionality as the Analogix adapter.
The only gripe I have about the product is that the phone connection cable (which cannot be removed) is rather short. This means that you must keep your phone close to the adapter during use. This may make it difficult to play games, as the adapter can get in the way. Mirroring media is not a problem as you do not need to be touching the phone.
PROS:
- Solid construction
- Full functionality in comparison to OEM adapters
- Cheap price
CONS:
- Relatively long shipping wait
- Connection cable is a bit short

WOW, I was looking for this! It's hard to say if these chinese products have really good quality, especially when we're talking about a new technology.
I think I'll get one, since shipping costs to Brazil make the OEM one even more expensive!
I just want to ask you if you noticed some problem with it's frame rate, cause some hdmi and vga chinese cables, sometimes, even having the expected resolution, show problems with that. Have you tried some games just to see how does it go?
Thank you very very much, just for writing this complete review you helped me a lot! Cheeeers from BR!

No frame rate issues most of the time, but there are some microstutters (barely noticeable) during 1080p playback of certain movie files (wmv, mkv). This is to be expected though.

I have been searching for a good dock for the Nexus 9, and I haven't found anything yet. Figured we could start a thread for docks and impressions of docks. All the docks that I've seen appear to have the USB connection facing the wrong way for our Nexus 9s.
First up, micro usb docks that will work with the Nexus 9.

Why not? This is the best device for that!
It's not a dock, but I actually use a Twelve South Compass stand. My current one is rigged with a small Qi charger in the middle for the Nexus 7, and while Nexus 9 can't charge that way, it sits on the stand just fine. I tend to store it in landscape when I do use it.

This is the only thing that I've found, but the reviews are lumped with the lightning version, so its hard to get a good idea on overall consensus. I can't decide if I should order it to find out for myself or not.

Looking at the connector, it appears to be oriented the wrong way. As in to make the tablet plug in, the display will face the dock and not you. I could be wrong on that.
How does the tablet know it's docked rather than connected to a charger? I ask as I'm curious how it will know when to daydream.

Good catch. I hadn't noticed that. Now I'm back to square one.
What about this?
Well the original purpose of a dock is to put the device on the stand for charging and/or syncing instead of having to fiddle around and manually connect a cable. This works fine for that i suppose.
Having it act like a alarm clock or whatever is not what makes it a dock. That's just a feature that some docks have but is not a prerequisite.

To be fair, you probably just jammed it in without regard for your tablet.
Others here don't treat them so badly.
If you're careful, any dock can work.
Just a word of advice for those looking for a dock.
The Nexus 7 and 9 are the only ones I've owned that have the microusb socket the OTHER way around than my other ones.
Any update on the ever dock with the n9? Curious to see if it fits. Thanks.

Been looking for a good dock for a while. Happened to find this on kickstarter.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/265983363/sarvi-dock-designed-for-apple-and-android-devices/description
Seems to fit my needs perfectly.
I searched and didnt find a thread for charging docks so I'm posting one. I've gotten really used to the wireless charging with my G3 and with wireless charging gone as an option on the 6P, I'm going to want a nice dock to set the phone on at work.
Anyone else feel the same, anyone see any 6P charging docks yet?

After looking at this for a bit, I see that it has the usb-c mounted on a roller bar so it moves with the phone.
It actually looks pretty decent. :good:

Looks like those images were from Kidigi, a known manufacturer of desktop docks. Here is their listing.

I tried ordering their Nexus 6 Dock. They don't sell directly, you have to get them through a supplier. In the US, its NakedCellPhones, their store is mostly based off of ebay listings. It took so long, I was able to get 2 RND ones before they carried the Nexus 6 docks.
I emailed Fuz Designs asking if they would make an adapter for the Everdock. Hopefully they do.

If they make a version of that N6 Dock for the N6P and N5X, I'd probably buy a couple of each (N6P for me, N5X for my wife) so that my wife and I could have one for home and work. That N6 dock looks fantastic!

I have the RND branded one for my N6. Got 2 of them. Very nice and very similar if not exactly the same.

Lol, actually that's what took so long for me to find a n6 dock. Most phones have the micro USB the other way so I couldn't get a generic dock for any phone. This makes a lot more sense.

Looks like it is. It says N6P in the description.
FUZ Designs "EverDock" might work.
http://fuzdesigns.com/pages/EverDock
I know others were interested in Type C docking solutions since Qi Wireless is out, and someone brought this one up before.
http://www.kidigi.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=112#.ViUocvkViFk
It is actually available now for order though, $48. The Type C connector can be raised or lowered as needed for cases.

• Charge your device.
• Sync with Computer.
• Flexible connector for easy undocking.

Only thing is I'm not sure about how it actually would charge. It shows a few shots of a USB A to Micro USB cable, then a few of it with what looks like a physically attached cable.
Who's getting it to test it for me US?
http://www.gadgets4geeks.com.au/Kidigi-Omni-Case-Ready-Dock-with-USB-31-Type-C-for-Mobile-Phones
According to this one it maxes out at 2.4A
$48 bucks that a bit steep.
I'll wait for other options.
Second link has it for $39, some of their other retailers probably have it for cheaper. I'd pay that for a good dock, the TYLT VU was more expensive than that.
35 bucks is simply too much for what appears to be a plastic shell. At least with the ridiculously overpriced Vu they give you the means to power your device without having to steal a cable from elsewhere in your collection.

Actually, that is an Australian site, so it is $39 AUD which is around $29 USD.
Of course, you'll get killed on shipping...
Good points both, thanks.
Just ordered one. Hoping this cradle is compatible with Znaps

Let us know how it works out. I don't think it will work with znaps and I'm a backer too. I didn't consider that when looking at these...
Damn.
The znaps adapters look kind of long and I think with the dock fully retracted it would still sit high and be unstable.
Waiting for RND to have theirs for purchase or when nakedcellphone carries them on ebay. Last year for the Nexus 6, RND had theirs available first, so I ordered from them. This exact dock was on AliExpress for bulk purchase and the USB connector had RND branding on it, so I'm sure it will be available soon as well.

It's another company that has docks. Actually they are the same docks.

It's actually on the American ebay priced @ £24.99, free shipping from China. Search "KiDiGi Omni Charger Cradle Desktop Dock for Smartphone with Type-C Charging Port". (Can't post hyperlinks yet as I'm still an XDA noob ) Ordered one myself from the UK.
Picked up on eBay for $25. They marked it shipped same day.

Let us know what you guys think when it comes in. I'm still interested in one of these but I'm willing to wait till I get one that charges fast enough.

I think that will mostly depend on what you plug it into. It doesn't come with the brick (at least its not included in the "Whats in the box" part). On Alibaba.com its rated at 1A @5V, on ebay its listed at 2A @5V. Its just a USB A to type C 2.0 cable, though so its going to charge at whatever your Type A power source is.
I won't be of much help to you as I'm not using this as a charger. I plug these docks into a USB 3.0 Hub that goes into my Mac Mini dev computer. My previous Kidigi/RND docks (same dock), didn't have the cable attached. These do. Can we modify it... probably. The other docks also had OTG support, which this one does not. I paid more for the Nexus 6 Docks though, and I never used the OTG port anyway.

Bah, you are a huge help to me.
Good points all around, some of the pictures I've seen of this one have attached cables, others show unattached cables. If it is unattached, I'm thinking 3.0A will work fine on it, they probably only tested with 2.4A chargers at max.
You know, like how the Micro SD card thing used to go? 32GB Micro SD capable, because that's the biggest one we could test with at the time.
I have just received my dock, and the Type A cable is wired straight into the dock.

This sounds like a good bedside dock, i'm not concerned with rapid charging while sleeping. That will free up my rapid charger for my living room or kitchen. Might have to consider this now. How long is the cable? 1m or 2m?
It is now listed on Amazon for $25.99
