One plus one terrible battery life - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all. I have had my one plus one for nearly one year and since the start it has been really bad with battery life. I can get around 4 to 5 hours of idle time with my brightness at the lowest capability and force quitting every app after using it and I can get maybe an extra 4 hours with battery saver. Something is clearly wrong and I would like to fix it since some of my other One Plus buddies have around 21-30 hours of battery life right out of the box.
My phone is rooted and I have changed the rom 4 times but this battery life problem has been a problem since I opened the phone and started using it. I am currently running the newest Cyanogen 13 snapshot. Could this be a defect? the phone occassionally lags a lot and the only fix is force restarting. Seriously need help thank you.

You might want to get it checked, the battery might be faulty. Try using an AOSP based build and see if the issue persists. If it does, then your battery might need to be replaced.

Battery Life varying between models

Hey guys, I'm new here. I've had my phone for nearly a month now and have constantly read the forums but never posted. I tried finding a thread like this, but I couldn't. Sorry if this is repeated.
This is the second captivate I've had. The first one completely bricked after doing an OTA update. Anyways, after getting a replacement model, I've noticed that the new phone has horrible battery life. Sent about 15 text messages and my battery died 10%. With my old one, I was so amazed at how well the battery lasted.
Is it a well known thing that battery life varies between captivates?
EDIT:
Here's some background on my two captivates (if for some reason it can aid in figuring out why my second captivate's battery life sucks):
With my first captivate, I did an OTA update for JH7 and had amazing battery life. This was when I had "new phone syndrome" and played with every app I could find throughout the day and was always amazed at how the battery wasn't dying quickly (so I'm sure it wasn't my imagination that the battery life was better). I spend nights where I purposely tried draining my battery after coming home from work so I could do a full charge.
Then I installed Cognition, but liked the stock version so I switched back using Odin. After restoring it to JF6, I did another OTA update for JH7. The update froze and then bricked the phone.
Once I had my phone replaced, I used Kies to update to JH7 instead. And for some reason, this phone's battery life is substantially different than my original one
I just notice that Launcher Pro drain the battery faster than TouchWiz.

Check your cell standby. I find that sometimes my standby time shows twice as long as my phone has actually been unplugged. During these times, my battery life is much worse. Not really sure what causes it as it does not always happen... I have not noticed a relationship to Launcher Pro. When the standby weirdness is not an issue I get great battery life with Launcher Pro. I have not used touchwiz in a long time, but I find it hard to imagine that I would be getting better than 18 or so hours with it.

Standby shows the same time as the time that its been unplugged. I started off this morning with 98%. Sending 20 texts plus 2 levels of angry birds dropped it to 81%.
My original captivate had ridiculously good battery life compared to this one. I used it consistently and by the end of the day, still had at least 50%. I doubt its the battery because when they replaced my phone, they put the same battery I had into the new one.
Have you guys experienced any differences between the battery life of two different captivates?

Thanks, I've read that before when I was lurking the forums. I instantly thought it was my imagination but that's not the case.
Also tried the battery draining. Used it until the phone shut off. Charged it to 100%, shut it off, charged it at 100% again. Turned it on, shut it off and charged it...no change.
Att is sending a new battery so I'll see if its the battery that's causing this poor battery life.
So far though, I really doubt its the battery and something in the system. I got so annoyed with the battery life that I did a factory reset in-case there was some app that was draining it, but that didn't help either.
Just a tip. I was using latitude and wasnt getting the normal battery life i usually was when i wasnt using it.
I didnt know it was effecting it though cause you dont see it in task manager but you will in applications/running services. Anyways i signed out of latitude and battery life is back to normal.
It wont be remarkably better but it was noticeable to me. Just a tip.

[Q] Phone is acting phone, any ideas?

So about a week ago I got a new phone and gave my gf the HTC Sensation I had. At the time I had it running LeeDroid 4.1 and I was getting good performance out of it (battery life included, about 14-18 hours depending on usage). I consider myself a moderate to heavy user depending on the day.
However, once I gave my GF the phone it had spiraled down hill for her. First, after only changing the sim card, the battery became very unstable. The best battery life she has got out of it has been 6 hours. Of light use (20 minutes of games, and text messages). I tried swapping to CM to see if it would be better because from my experiences I have always had the best battery life using Cyanogen mod. Same problem there as well. I know that you should give a rom a few days to stabalize but I have never had the battery life be 6 hours even on a new rom.
The current problem with her phone is random reboots, or the screen not just coming awake. At first it was randomly rebooting so I suspected a kernel problem. So I changed to the faux kernel and brought it down to 1.0ghz max and left it. It stopped randomly rebooting but is there a way to make the screen stop coming awake? Currently we have to pull the battery to solve this.
Thanks for any help.

[Q] Verizon S3 w/ CM 10 Battery Issues

Hello,
I got my (Verizon) Samsung Galaxy S3 two days ago, and rooted and flashed it with the CM 10 Nightly builds after a couple of hours of using touchwiz. Everyone has been saying that they are getting more out of their battery with CM 10, but my experience hasn't been too good. I am getting maybe 9 hours of battery with normal use. When I got the phone I run it down to 10%, turned it off and then charged it back to 100%.
I have turned off 4gb (as I don;t have no real 4g signal around me), have the display on the lowest setting and have even under clocked it to 1.2ghz and it's still draining fast.
I have been reading through some forum threads and there are people with the same issue as me, some say they think it’s a faulty battery so they ordered a new battery but never post back there results.
Others say that doing a reset of the phone/reflashing CM 10 does the trick.
I have also experience my phone getting warm to the touch when just checking facebook or web browsing. My phone core seems to be running at 90-95 Fahrenheit when it feels warm and have never seen it go above 100.
I’m open to resetting my phone, but as I have just set up everything, I would rather not to.
I know this is a lot of information, but any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

a few things.
if youre running a launcher some allow you to backup your homescreen settings, even the free versions
i have never gotten that bad of battery life out of a CM10 rom. Your screen on time is a more reliable idicator of your battery health than hours of use. the hours of use statistic is easy to manipulate
run better battery stats to find any wakelocks you may have to see whats eating your battery.
Re
Thanks for the quick reply!
I'm not sure it's an app that's causing this, as I didn't install anything on the phone once I rooted it for a couple of hours and it was still draining fast.
I have gotten the betterbatterystats app and will post what I find out.
I am also not getting the best battery life. I am on paranoidroid 2.52. I had the phone fully charged, screen on watching a video in skyfire. I did not make 3 hours. Is this what others are getting?
Battery issue
You probably all know this already but the screen brightness level also effects the battery a lot. I set mine to auto.
I'm wondering if you flashed your radio and rpm to the latest leaked jb

Nexus S Battery Issues

Hi all. I purchased a nexus S recently, second hand. It had a 4.1.1 stock JB installed. The battery life was horrible, i hardly managed 5 hours with less than 2 hours of screen time. I changed the rom to CM 10.1.3 stable, although i do know that CM roms are battery hungry yet battery remained about the same as before. Thinking maybe the battery was faulty, i got a new one. It seems slightly better but still i am managing only 2 hours screen time with Cm10.1.3 and a matrix kernel. Plus, the charging is SUPER SLOW. Takes more than 4 hours to reach 100% charge. Is that normal? Kindly any suggestions would be appreciated.
maybe is battery problem ..change it
Battery problem is common issues in nexus S..I am hardly get 2 hr + screen on time..

[Q] Nexus 5 Sudden Battery Throttle

So, I don't know if my problem here in particular is unique or new, but this issue started about a week ago.
My Nexus 5, is rooted, and running Cyanogenmod 11, (was) running with ART Runtime, and I was getting pretty decent battery life with the phone. Usually nothing less than 2-3 hours of screen on time, with pretty typical settings (location off, sync off, etc).
Out of nowhere, about last week my battery life began to be much worse. It'll drain from full to 20% in a matter of 5 or 6 hours, and none of my usage really changed at all. I'm well aware of the mm-qcamera-daemon, but according to my battery usage page, it still isn't really in use or bothering my battery life.
What could cause this sudden change? I'm here at work plugging my phone in half way through the day, when normally I can go about 2 days without charging.
I've tried factory resetting, I've turned off ART, I've tried changing the governor on the CPU, and many other things. Is my battery simply going bad?
If anything has a solution for me, it'd be a blessing.
Thanks.

If i was on your place I'd return it back to stock and see how my phone would react. Afterwards if issue has to do anything with hardware I'd unroot + relock bootloader and give it to my provider for a warranty and explain them my problems.

Hmm..
That's not a bad idea. I think I'll flash stock back on to it when I get home tonight. You know, I have insurance on the phone, but I was expecting to have to exchange it for breaking the phone's screen, not for my battery going bad. I hope Stock ROM fixes the problem, or hell.. maybe whenever 4.4.3 ROMs start coming out, that might do the trick to. I've been careful to take care of this phone, since I broke my Nexus 4 two months after I got it.
Thanks.

You're welcome. I hope that you solve your problem as soon as possible. If you take a look how your phone does with stock on your diagnose of a problem would be much easier and from than on if the problem was in software you can try some other roms and kernels. I personally am not really a fan of cyanogenmod 11 at least not for nexus 5 since I've had few bugs using for a few days.

Well, I really liked Paranoid Android for my Nexus 4, and I've had no issues until recently with CM11. :\
I guess stock is going to be my best bet though. I just really hope I can deal with the battery drain issue from mm-qcamera-daemon or whatever.

I've been using SlimKat in combination with Faux's custom kernel for a few days now and I must say that peformance is as smooth as it was never before, speed is absolutely phenomenal and my battery life is more than pleasing (around 24H + 3-4 Hrs of screen on time).

Well, that sounds like exactly I want. I'm not opposed to trying another custom ROM either. Can you PM me a link to the thread with whatever particular build you're using?
If it's efficient and up to 4 hours of on screen time, sounds like exactly what I need.
I'm more than happy to ditch my ROM if I can get better performance, haha.

KERNEL: http://faux.romhost.me/hammerhead/kk44/
I'm using non-ultimate version of the kernel which means that it doesn't support overclocking and I'm also using a bit older build which is very stable and works flawlessly for me.
Ah, great. I'm actually going to download it now, while I'm here at work. Also, does this particular ROM work at all with ART Runtime, because if possible, I'd like to continue using it.

It does support ART. I didn't try it on this ROM though so I cannot tell exactly whether it's working or not. You'll have to test it by yourself but I am pretty sure that if your phone doesn't have any hardware issues that you won't be disappointed with the performance of ROM + Kernel with or without ART! Hit thanks if I helped you anyhow
PS: Though since the ART is still in beta phase of development there is a possibility that it has caused you so much trouble with battery =)

Batteries Can't throttle. However the do degrade with use. You can replace the battery with ease.
