I bought a Samsung S5 Active from a friend of a friend. It is in great shape works well on "wifi".... ended up finding out that the phone was never unlocked by trying to get it up and goin on my current network. It is an AT&T phone and they refused to give me the unlock code because the phone was never paid off apparently. What are my options at this point to unlock the phone without having to root?

very wrong. it used to be like that, but not anymore
idoneapps.com has unlock methods without root. $35 and is works flawlessly. go to their site and check it out. Ive used it on 2 regular S5s, 0 issues

That's the method I might take if all else fails. I'm a newby at all this stuff but understand it can get complicated when it comes to rooting. Found out by bricking a cheap LG I practiced on. I'm very cautious about doing the same to this Samsung S5....or should I said SCARED! It actually would be exciting to root this phone and do it that way but...yeah, I dont trust myself enough yet!

I tried awhile ago and it didn't work for me because my UTMS menu has been disabled and has no way to access it, I'm on stock KK NC1. However, I saw those who seems to be able to unlock with this method are mostly on older rom.

There's already an older unlock thread with this method and it's confirmed to only work on older firmware or after flashing the old modem.

I have at&t and it didn't work also I paid for an online service for an unlock code and they couldn't do it either

I've never had any issues talking to AT&T's international support, saying I'm planning on traveling overseas and requesting an unlock code. No charge.

I am long time AT&T customer and never been successful with AT&T's international support. I ended up buying codes on the net.
When I received my S4 a year ago it clearly stated in their website that S4 would not be received the sim-unlock code from AT&T.
I received the S4 with 4.4.2 rom and MDL baseband/modem. I rooted the phone and then flashed the custom rom (Clear Rom 1.5). After that I tried the hidden features that posted on the net to unlock the sim. It did not work. The phone has to be on stock rom that I read later.
I end up buying the code on the net and it worked for me. When I bought the code they gave me several codes to test it. Sim was unlocked in the first code that I entered.
Bought a galaxy s6 SM-G920 was told it was pre unlocked for any company i put sim card in from my tmobile acc worked fine then 3 days later Rent-a-center locked phone??? Tried to contact seller no luck also called RAC they were no help at all can any one HELP ??

Are you sure he didnt rent the phone and then he sell it to you for money? Did they completely disable the phone or is the lock screen just locked?

Most likley he scamed me by getting phone from RAC and sold it to me on craigslist phone worked fine until it locked me out requiring me to input a pin# also there is a device alert : this device has been disabled because rent a center recived a notification of an unauthorized attempt to sell or trade the device please call or visit ypur local RAC to help resolve this matter prior to calling please locate phone imei # PLEASE HELP.....

I think its jus requires a pin i was recieving notifications i jus put my sim into a diff phone

I'm going to reply here because I had same experience. Download Odin. Download the latest TMobile odin firmware ( I believe its OJC.). Flash the phone.

Yes. I have done this before. Just go to the TMobile S6 threads and follow the back to stock lollipop 5.1.1 guide. Everything is there. Give me a sec and I will get the link for you....

Samsung's are one of the easier phones to work with. I don't think you will have any problems. Just stick with the one guide and don't get overwhelmed by all the other threads. If you end up needing help, just let me know.
Good luck i was in a similar situation with a s5 but the imei was blocked , couldn't be used on any network with in Australia even after i flashed new firmware.

Yea i talked to rent a center they said he came In few weeks ago got the phone and a laptop and turned around sold them both on craigslist luckily i called them a day b4 he tried to report stolen or lost like a scum bum ...any ways i gave RAC my info they were suppose to contact me over a week ago about re selling me the phone or to pay me for the phone back they told me to hold on to phone and report him to police

Good point. Although, donation based (optional) not free. I don't remember connecting with you!? Also the software I use only connects the USB drivers remotely. The worst I could do was connect to the Webcam and spy on someone. However they can see the devices I'm connected to and 'lock' any they want. I don't blame you for being sceptical. I have the A9 AT&T variant 1.12.617.6 unlocked bootloader, s-off and rooted. SuperCID. Dont really need sim unlock but it's always nice to have just in case. I don't get on here alot but I am on usually once or twice a day.

I already have unlock code but my A9 not accept it.... samwhere read to unlock procedure need all stock system+boot+recovery. Try to flash RUU- no luck again. Not planning flash s-off, but think only flashing unlocked att ruu after s-off could solve my problems. Maybe IMEI change and new unlock code will help.

I bought my first OnePlus phone just switched from Pixel. Problem I faced I decided to by the phone from big red instead of Oneplus. So how can I start a fire to get some great XDA developers to figure a way to Root my Verizon OnePlus.
Why did you buy a phone from Verizon? Was the deal that great that it was worth giving up an unlockable bootloader? You can forget anyone finding an exploit, Verizon locks down their phones tight. Should have know Big Red would screw you over....

Not gonna happen. The options to start the process have been removed from the Verizon variant.
