Unlocked Sprint S5 showing CDMA in GSM/UMTs mode with international SIM card inserted - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a friend using a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5 that was recently SIM unlocked for international use. We also have a SIM card (egsimcard.co.kr) which has worked for me 4 times in the past year, across various phones. The 3G network (which runs on KT/Olleh) is UMTS 2100, which should work with the SM-G900P (at least according to willmyphonework.net).
We confirmed that the phone said "invalid SIM card" before the unlock, and there is no such message after the unlock. However, the About Phone screens still show the phone number associated with the CDMA profile of the device, even after we switch the phone to GSM/UMTS mode and reboot. It's like we can't make actually make it work in GSM/UMTS mode.
Does anyone have any advice to make this work?
(She is in South Korea now and needs help ASAP, currently renting a phone and wifi hotspot, but would prefer not to.)
We also tried setting the APN and manually searching for the network, but it's all theoretically moot if the phone isn't picking up the phone number on the SIM.
We've even tried the Phone Info menu at *#*#INFO#*#* but there's no access to that running stock ROM.

shoot, i totally missed this post. i always seem to miss the time sensitive ones. Anyways did you go into more networks/mobile networks/network operators and register on the gsm network? you might have to go into the GCF settings on the phone to allow for GSM connections, this can be done with the following steps
Dial *#0011# and in the service menu do the following
Click (menu) then (key input) then input Q then (Ok)
Click (menu) then (back)
Click (menu) then (key input) then input 0000 then click (Ok)
Wait for about 15 seconds then a menu will pop up, from there follow these procedures:
[2] UE Setting & Info >
[1] Setting >
[1] Protocol >
[4] GCF >
[1] GSM/(E)GPRS/WCDMA GCF ON
It will say "success", please reboot via the phone’s power menu after the confirmation.

[Q] US GSM Carrier Unlocked Sprint Touch Pro 2 - Data Issue

I unlocked my Sprint Touch Pro 2 and I am using an AT&T SIM card here in the United States successfully.
The first few times I used GSM mode, a menu would pop up and ask me which network settings I wanted to use (AT&T or T-Mobile).
Now, that menu is no longer popping up. So, I am unable to select the settings for AT&T. Data is now not working on GSM (the phone tries to dial #777 as if it is connected to Sprint).
How can I get that dialog box to pop back up and prompt me to pick the carrier settings? I'm assuming that is what will fix it.
Thanks for the help.
well, I got it working by manually defining the following parameters in a new gprs network connection:
Access Point Name wap.cingular
Username [email protected]
Password CINGULAR1
it works, but then when I go back to CDMA on Sprint, it tries to use this connection.
Is there an autoconfig program that I don't know about? It popped up on my screen when I first started switching between CDMA and GSM, but it hasn't come up again.....
How do I enable "auto-switching?" More importantly, why won't it just get this info from the AT&T SIM card? Why do I have to enter it for it to work now, when I didn't have to a few days ago?
Do you mind share the information how you unlocked your sprint pro2 (CDMA I assume)? I have same phone and want to use it in GSM oversea. Sprint customer Service told me it is not a global phone. can't unlock.
thanks in advance!

How to activate my Droid 2 Global?

I got my lovely droid 2 global (white) today, which is amazing. However, when I turned on the phone, it required me to activate. How can I activate it in Toronto, Canada without in US? Thanks.
Exit that wizard, switch to GSM/UMTS and you are ready to go (assuming you unlocked)
hi all,
i've been using my lovely Droid 2 Global outside US for quite a while (unlocked and using GSM network), and it worked all fine till today...
i tried to install fission today, and it didn't work for me (it just won't boot up), so i restore to 2.3.29, and finally managed to boot it up...
but after i power up, and enter PIN for my SIM, it requires me to Activate the phone...when i hit Activate, it immediately show "Phone Activation not supported on this network"...any suggestion on what i should do? i think i have the unlock code that i got from the buyer, but the phone doesn't even give me a chance to enter it!!!
i don't need to use Verizon network, i just want to use my D2G under GSM!! Please help!
i should have asked: why i need to re-activate again simply bcs i restore from a SBF??? I thought it shall stay as activated and unlocked once it was done...am i thinking wrongly?!
Don't freak up. Activation is only for CDMA radio. Every time you do factory restore (wipe data) CDMA programming gets erased too. GSM radio doesn't need activation. Simply ignore this, switch to GSM/UMTS mode and start using your phone.
If you have US account and you want to reactivate so you can use CDMA roaming feature, you need to do manual activation, but you may need Verizon's support to help you with some numbers you need to put up in programming.
BTW - the boot loop happened because you didn't wipe data after SBF. Fission (and any other non-stock ROM) will cause boot loop if you don't wipe data after SBF flash. (SBF flash process does not wipe data as part of the flashing).
GSM radio need to activate to use outside USA ! You need to contact with Verizon to get unlock code or use some unlock sim

You are mistaking unlocking with activation process. On GSM you activate the SIM card (Subscriber Identification Module), while on CDMA the "SIM" is integrated in the radio, hence you activate the radio.
For Droid 2 Global since it has essentially 2 radios - a GSM and a CDMA one, for GSM you need active SIM card to activate and for CDMA you need to make sure phone's MEID is active on your Verizon account then you program it (activte) either automatically while on Verizon network by dialling *228 or manually by calling Verizon support.
For the GSM radio in D2G, in order to use non-Verizon SIM in it, you need to unlock the phone first. Once unlocked, phone remains permanently unlocked and no SBF or wipe or anything will change this status.
Hey guys. I just bought an unlocked D2G on ebay so I thought I would share my experiences.
I got to the same screen where I was told "phone activation not supported on this network" and it was extremely frustrating. my only option was to hit ok and go back to the "touch the android" screen. I tried everything including the menu button. Nothing worked. This was with my SIM card inserted.
So I took out my SIM card and tried again. this time the menu button worked; it brought up the wireless options menu. I wanted to switch to "GSM only" as I had a feeling that would fix the problem. But I was told "no GSM card, must use CDMA mode". So, feeling stuck, I called Verizon, and after waiting on hold with the first CSR, and getting about 30 seconds into the phone call with the high up tech guy, I was in the middle of telling him about how in CDMA mode the wireless options menu would come up, but not with a SIM card inserted, the wireless options menu actually did come up. So I switched to "GSM only" and I was in!
Well, sorta. I had to get the phone linked with my google account via wifi, because the phone had no internet at all. A quick search of the internet revealed that this was a common problem - "I can talk on my D2G, but no data!" I called Rogers and sure enough, there were some settings I had to change to make this work.
Go into wireless options, then mobile network settings, then GSM/UMTS options (I assume you have a D2G because you want a droid you can put your SIM card in, right?) and then to Access Point Names. As this phone is unlocked, there are no APNs listed and your phone is neutered until one is added. I had no idea because my last phone was straight from Rogers and was of course hardwired to know this stuff.
Setting up the APN is really easy. just give it any name, list the APN as internet.com, MCC is 302, and MNC is 720. That's all. Back out. You will notice nothing is showing there. Don't do it again. It's there, but it's not showing up until you reboot. On my first reboot I had the 3G icon pop up in the notification bar and just about filled my pants. finally, the phone I paid $400 for was fully functional! No issues since then. Smooth as butter.
Thanks for the information and sharing leobg and seventieslord!
Gingerbread's rolling out, I'm planning to update my dad's D2G, but we're outside the US with an unlocked phone using GSM. I was worried after updating to Gingerbread, the phone would ask for a reactivation. This thread put my mind to rest

G920R7 GSM Unlock..... Feel like I'm close....

I'm on PD1 6.0.1 with a G920R7 nTelos. I rooted using CF-Auto root, flashed TWRP for the g920p, and installed the zip file from this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394689
After that I installed Phone INFO ★Samsung★ and used it to access the hidden menus. Went to the 2263 menu and set all band preferences to all and selected the LTE/GSM mode only, then went to the 4636 menu and set the radio to GSM/LTE (prl) auto. I've tried GSM only and it switches back to GSM/LTE (prl) auto on its own.
I now have access to a mess of options in the network mode selection screen in settings, and setting it to GSM only and 3g only still does not allow me to catch signal. In network operators it shows AT&T, yet if you try to manually select the network it never goes through. *#0011# still shows it switching through LTE bands and not staying on one or registering on the network. In the device info screen (4636 menu) it shows the correct phone number and AT&T for current network, but under cellinfo still shows it switching between LTE bands and under GSM disconnects it shows ======DATA======.
At this point I'm not quite sure what to try next. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas to try. Thank you.
EDIT: I've also tried the G920P domestic unlock and G920R4 unlock with a box, but no luck with either as expected.
i can do remotely if u want

I have a box but the device isn't supported, it's not locked I must just be missing something. Anyway you could private message me what I'm missing? I've been through all the settings messing with it and all, even flashed the CDMA to GSM zip floating around here. I know I'm missing something silly. Any help would be appreciated and I don't mind sending you a donation provided I can do this myself next time.

I just messaged him on Hangouts. I don't know if its something he can help with or not because I believe we have the same box and the g900r7 isn't supported. This isn't even answered on that Voldemort website.
Did you figure this one out? I'm also interested in GSM unlocking this phone.
Messing around with it I was able to get an ATT Sim card to pull 3g data but no call/text or lte.

Possible call fix for Sprint and other devices running P

I'm on Sprint and was never able to make or receive calls regardless of Network settings in the easily accessible options menu after flashing the P Preview.
The following fixed my issue. You can access this menu without downloading an app but I forget how so it's easier to just download the free app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xsquarestudio.forcelte
I had my network mode set to LTE/CDMA when first using this app, and somewhere in the middle I changed it to CDMA but I'm not sure how much that impacted the actual fix.
These were my steps. I'm not responsible for any damage this may cause to your device as I'm not sure if messing with these settings is foolproof or not.
First, opened previously linked app "Force LTE" then under "Set Preferred Network Type" I changed to CDMA only. Enabled/disabled airplane mode. This seemed to do nothing as LTE was still showing in statusbar.
I then chose CDMA auto (PRL), airplane mode on/off, didn't seem to do much either. LTE still showed in statusbar and couldn't make calls. Also "Voice Network Type" showed "Emergency Calls only" inside the app.
I then chose the 3 dot menu and chose "select radio band". I changed that to United States, without resolving problem. Then selected "Cellular 800" and this may have solved the problem, but I continued on and selected PCS, fiddled with some settings in Phones settings menu. Was finally able to receive calls and my signal indicator showed 3G. In app Voice Network Type was listed as 1xRtt. I decided to select radio band once more and chose Class 10.
Calls were still functioning fine. So I went into Main settings menu and changed mobile network from CDMA to LTE/CDMA. LTE kicked in and calls still work!
Again, these settings may only work for Sprint hence the PCS Network option, and I believe Sprint may utilize the 800mhz frequency. The app might show you different options depending on your carrier. I don't know.
Anyway, fully functioning! Woohoo!!
Android P cannot make calls
I found an easier way
1. Remove your sim card from your phone, and turn off phone
2. Insert a different Sim from anywhere and restart the phone.
3. Try using the phone to make calls
4. Turn off the phone and remove the Sim card
5. Insert the main sim card( your original Sim card) and restart your phone
6. After start allow the phone to automatically reconfigure your network
This method worked for me. Hope it helps someone out there
