I have been using mx player pro on my samsung tablets with no trouble until now. All of a sudden when trying to use sw decoder to view my movies I get the message the sw is not supported. I watched a move last week with no trouble an tried to watch same now with the not supportedessage. The reason I usde sw is I have thpusand of old tv shows recorder in avi format and mx player was the only on I could watch these old files on without having to reconvert the to a newer format. I even tried to uninstall and reinstall in case something got corrupted in the program. This didn't help I lost hw+ when doing this.Is ther anything I can do to get sw encoder to work again.
Thanks
Dwight

It may be a software ota update.
Sometimes, the stock rom update delete codecs from system, hehe.
I learned this by pratical facts.

Did you update it? The one in the market normally will want to update to a version that works with our processor type. If yours did not I think you can download and install from the website. I have checked the hardware button and mine sticks when it did not used to with the old version.

Thanks I will try that.
I quite like mVideoPlayer. Works nicely for me.
Any recommendations on a player with good subtitle support? For both external subtitles (e.g., .ass, .srt, .ssa, etc) and embedded subtitles (e.g., mkv).
I have no idea which one has a good subtitles support, but i found Real player beta.
It is fast and capable of reproducing my mp4 videos when no other could.
I can't play mkv movie on my vegan-Tab. I tried with Rockvideo,mVideoplayer...
They can not play.
Please help me .
Thanks

I can't either. Don't think it is supported yet. I just convert them to MP4 with Handbrake.

I have rockplayer but I just installed mVideoplayer and whenever you first open it, the changelog shows all of the subtitle formats being supported in the new release.
Well I did that and it will play my mkv file in software decoding but stops on hardware decoding. Any ideas.

If it plays does it play ok? If it does then why does it matter if it is hardware or software mode? MKV is hard to play as it is which is why I convert them. The players will get better, just need to give them some time.
ahhh more confusion...
so if i put a dvd into my computer and convert it to mp4 is this the best to play on a stock gtablet? will quality be fair -good -great?
heck the reason i purchased this thing was so i could watch movie and browse the net while on vacation! and it has become a crazy pain...thought it would be smoother than it is...tons of web pages wont open cuzz the are flash?? supported so i get crazy gobbledy gook on he page! maybe i should have jut bought a net book?
The Flash problem is easily solved. Go to the FAQ thread and follow the instructions to install the correct Flash plugin. It works fine.
As for video the best codec for quality seems to be .mp4 in my opinion. .avi files work well too.

VLC of andoid. ARCMEDIA. runs flawlessly on any android version. here's the apk
Argh this is frustrating. I had a $100~ chinese tablet and it runs any video smoothly while this thing refuse to run a lot of videos due to codecs...
MX player stops automatically while playing a movie , does any one else has this issue also. And when i load the video it doesn't continue from where it was left.
Tis happens when I stream stuff over wifi from my pc using the software decoder in fast mode seems to reduce this but does not eliminate it completely probably bcos of my router's 54mbps max transfer rate has never happened with locally stored videos. The videos do not resume bcos the app is probably crashing and so cannot bookmark a "pause"

I had the issue with mostly with large avi files. and they were store in the internal memory. this happen with Momo player and MX player, and i tought it was the video file but i was wrong ,I been using dice player and so far no issues.
i had the same problem but i updated my firmware to .30 and there was an update for the player at around the same time and now all work fine
did you get any luck? its still a problem for me..
Anyone actually get MX Player to work anymore? I get an error message telling me to update the codec but there isn't any update actually available

MX Player works fine for me...I had to load a down-reved version of MXPlayer though...as the Tegra Codecs aren't out yet for the latest version of MXplayer.

I had the same situation when I play Avatar HD 12gb from my tablet with MXPlayer, it is playing from the begining but in 20% stoped and I forward and stoped again in the same elapse time
Okay, now that's strange. Today I updated my P5113 to UEBLH3 (newest official version) and that strange problem still exists.
H/W acc video codecs seem to dissapear after short using of the tab. When I restart sometimes I can play videos, sometimes it says "Sorry, this video cannot be played." Mostly affected are DivX and xVid avi files. Other players don't work in HW mode also. I hoped that updating to latest firmware would fix the problem, but apparently it's still here for me.
Is there anybody else who experiences something like that?
Try dice player work good with hardware acceleration
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Thats not the point. The question is how come system video codecs stop working just like that? They arent accessible from other players also. Like the OS doesnt support HW acc. I want to use stock video player since its the best player for me (and plays all videos FULL screen)
help!!!
Got a nexus 5 just 3/4 days ago. Trying to play breaking bad in mkv format 720p. Getting no sound from it whatsoever, tested avi and mp4 and they seem fine. Have tried vlc media player, dice plaer and MX player as well as stock player.
Had no issues playing the same file on my old phone (HTC one).
Thanks
Probably beed to install some codec

Could you possibly give me a link for a step by step guide for this as I am not too familiar with playing around with codecs....
Thanka
In MX player, go into settings, then decoder, scroll down to Download Custom Codec and it will tell you what one to install for your device, believe its the ARMv7.
Once installed, when you are playing the file, you may have to change the to software decoder, to do this, open the file you want to play and click the H/W button in the top right and select S/W
Hope this helps
mpeg2video has broken in last version of MX Player Pro 1.9.5. It reports "This video format (mpeg2video) is not supported".
MX Player Pro 1.9.5 ARMv7 Neon was installed from Google Play.
Hello,
My MX Player Pro was updated to 1.9.5 from Play Store.
Since the update, I cannot play any MPEG2 videos.
Before the update all .mpg, .ts and .REC video files worked fine.
Now I get "This video format (mpeg2video) is not supported."
(well, mine is in finnish but it translates to that)
Is this a bug or planned issue?
My player is ARMv7 NEON on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 & Samsung Galaxy S7
Have you tried using the custom codec from the codecs thread?

No, not yet.
Actually, for years I have just been using MX Player without any problems and without knowing about any custom codecs.
All my files has been standard mpeg2, mpeg4 or h264 stuff so nothing custom about them at all.
All these including mpeg2 have been working fine for years now.
So maybe I will need to look in to those.
mpeg2video not supported
After upgrading MX Player to 1.9.6 at Samsung S5Neo the .ts files recorded at Synology from DVB-T cannot be played. It says "mpeg2video not supported". Same applies to the DVB-T live stream.
Use custom codec.
You also started a duplicate thread.

Hi,
I have just downloaded the codes suggested it the above link. The video works perfectly now. Thanks for the help and info

So is this really the way things work with MX Player Pro from now on?
I must use custom codec to watch mpeg2 decoded videos and for every new update of MX Player I will need to get new custom codec?
I updated the MX Player Pro yesterday to 1.9.8 (I think it was 1.9.5) and now the custom codec (1.9.0) that I have won’t work with it.

Goodbye MX Player
I won't be using this app anymore. I need mpeg2. Period.
No reason to have this app without it.
No time to root my android tablet or play little games with codecs.
It used to to a good job, now it is just a vegetable.
Goodbye

Even with the custom codec I am still having compatibility issues that I never had before this change with MPEG2 files - audio pauses and subsequent desync, anybody else showing similar?
Just playing DVB-T recordings.
