[VK810 LG G Pad 8.3 LTE] Interesting discovery... - Android General

Using Flashify, I flash a custom recovery "twrp.img" (renamed from "twrp.lok", a custom TWRP found on XDA Developers Forums). Then, when I boot up the device, I get "fastboot mode started" and "udc_start()". Usually, you don't see fastboot on this LG G Pad 8.3 LTE from Verizon AFAIK. Maybe this will help all with rooting and custom ROMs.

[Q] Fastboot boot recovery.img

Hey all.
So for those of you unaware, you can boot into the recovery without flashing it through the command "fastboot boot recovery.img" as an alternative to "fastboot flash recovery.img". This is of course much more useful for people wishing to root on stock but keep access to OTA updates and such.
Now I've heard that in 4.3 they modified it so that it requires arguments to function (See here) and was wondering if anyone has any details about this working on the Moto G. I can see it being a better alternative to flashing the recovery, safer too.
Thanks!
Good. Thanks for thread
On 4.3 (or rather the bootloader that accompanies 4.3) you can just boot rather than flash moto g recovery.img (at least I did on my UK retail moto g). No funny parameters needed.
However its not the version of android that matters, its the bootloader itself, which is different for each device.
In this thread below someone has booted a recovery without funny parameters (bootloader on moto g that is used with android 4.4.2)

Weird, I've tried "fastboot boot recovery.img" with the CWM recovery on my Moto G, and it just reboots without loading the recovery. Am I doing something wrong?

On 4.4.2 or 4.3.
If using bootloader for 4.4.2 then the recovery.img needs to be packed differently according to the other threads. You need to wait for devs to release a new cwm or twrp. Flashing old cwm or twrp also just makes 4.4.2 phone reboot.
If you are on 4.3 are you also sure you are on 4.3 bootloader, or have you maybe played with flashing 4.4.2 and then downgraded to 4.3 but kept 4.4.2 bootloader.

I'm on 4.3, stock UK rom. We don't have the OTA for 4.4.2 here yer.
I've rooted and can flash recovery fine, but if I try to boot the CWM recovery without flashing it just reboots the phone.

Hi,
I am also in UKand have UK retail stock rom unrooted. (NOT tesco rom).
Ive just tried again to boot to CWM and it worked fine (fastboot boot cwm.img). I used the fastboot that comes with the SDK (ie NOT the moto fastboot/mboot).
maybe your bootloader is slightly different version from mine, doubt it but you never know, mine says the following in the bootloader screen.
AP fastboot Flash Mode (S)

[Q] Moto G 4G xt1039 recovery and root problems

I unlocked my new Moto G 4g xt 1039 (Android 4.4) without problems, but i cannot get it to accept any recovery i try to install. I tried manual adb with CWM and TWRP. I also tried the Moto Tool AIO and Easy Recovery.
All of them failed to flash the recovery except once when the recovery was flashed, but after booting it, it did not react to keypresses and touch.
I'm on Windows 64bit nad flashing every other device i have and had wasn't a problem.
Does anyone have an idea. Every thread regarding the device was more or less outdated so help would be appreciated. I like my devices rooted.
Just a short update and push ? Chainfire root worked. Still no success with recovery though.

Are you using a recovery built for peregrine?
Try one of the TWRP versions by @Somcom3X found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...ection-somcom3xs-experimental-corner-t2996266
Yes, i've also tried to flash one of @Somcom3X recoveries, too.
The problem seems to be one of my previous attempts to flash a recovery, because i get two messages on the phone in fastboot mode when trying to flash a recovery:
cmd : getvarartition-type:recovery
cmd : getvaar:max-download-size
I'm pretty sure there should be at least two more lines after that, when sucessfully flashing. To me it seems as if the recovery partition seems to be broken. Any idea how to fix it. If iit is the problem at all.
I already tried reinstalling the stock recovery with Moto Tool AIO. Iget the following ooutput on the phone:
cmd : getvarartition-type:recovery
cmd : getvaar:max-download-size
cmd : download:00a00000
cmd : flash:recovery
bab check failed for recovery
Have you tried booting the image? Fastboot boot xxx.img
Sent from my XT1045
I tried now. the upper third of the screen is white and the two lower thirds are blue for a moment and fade to black with backlight on.
Update: For reasons beyond my knowledge it works. I cannot get it to boot to recovery from the fastboot menu, but it works with adb command boot recoveryxxx.img and from within advanced boot menu.
Friends, made unlocking the bootloader and used the kingo root and the procedure was successful

Boot loops For my Moto G 1st gen after Nandroid backup using TWRP Recovery

I unlocked my Moto G (XT1033 with Lollipop ) bootloader and Installed TWRP recovery and everything was smooth until I tried for a Nandroid backup (the storage space was little low).
After the backup i tried for the reboot my moto just showing bootloader unlocked warning only.i tried fast boot using the power key +volume down key it shows the AP Fastboot flash Mode (s). Recovery option shows team win logo for 3-4 seconds and then the unlocked bootloader message and loops.only barcode option works.
then i dig through XDA Forum n tried custom recovery using ADB and fastboot tool.
installed moto usb drivers and tried to connect using usb cable as my device in fastboot flash mode my win 10 detects my phone as fastboot falcon s .but when i tried adb/fast boot commands it just shows waiting for device or null no device detected .
what should i do .please help ..
my local serviceman says after seeking motorola forum support(as he said) IC may be damaged.

Motorola Moto G Pure flash Magisk issue

I've got a Motorola Moto G 5G that I've successfully rooted. Thanks to the threads I've read here at XDA. But now I've got a Motorola Moto G Pure (bootloader unlocked) and I can't seem to get Magisk flashed through platform tools. Could it be that I'm flashing the wrong boot image through Magisk manager? Or is it because I'm typing the wrong commands in platform tools?? Can someone please help??
Hey I've got a Motorola G Pure and I had trouble flashing it too. I think there's something with them that makes it a bit more difficult. I flashed a Moto G Power back a few years ago with ease.
Have you already got the OEM unlocked by emailing them? Once you got the bootloader unlocked
If so the commands
sudo fastboot boot_a boot.img
sudo fastboot boot_b boot.img
(on linux only do you need the command sudo before it otherwise just run the fastboot command(
should work if you renamed your magisk boot.img and put it in the same folder as the original with all the other ROM files.
If that doesn't work that confirms that Moto G Pure takes a little more effort to flash. Please let me know if that works for you. You may want to check google or another form before trying that but I'm pretty sure that is correct.
