Hi all!
I'm having an issue with my S7 (SM-G930FD), I hope somebody can help!
I encrypted my exFAT 64GB Samsung EVO Class 10 Micro SD card about 5 days ago while on holiday (about 40GB worth of photos and videos) without any issues, overnight.
This morning (back at work now ) I noticed that my recent photos were missing. I went to Storage in Settings and saw that the SD Card wasn't actually mounted. Under Portable Storage (Under SD Card) it just says "Ready" like in the photo attached.
No matter what I do, I'm not able to decrypt the SD card or read its contents. I took the card out and used a computer to see if the whole card was corrupt, but it doesn't seem to be because I can see the files in their encrypted state - with file names but without any viewable data or metadata.
Seeing as my S7 is the only device that can decrypt or read the data, what can I do now? As stated, I've tried to decrypt but after I enter my password, I just get a continuous progress bar labelled "Checking SD card" that doesn't end.
I hope someone can help, if not, I've lost about 680 photos and videos from my family holiday :crying:
Patiently awaiting some input - I'd appreciate any help. Please see screenshots for further reference.
Thanks,
Uts.
I take it my data is long gone in that case... balls.
I don't know guy. Seems to me you ought to be more patient. The messages say it could take a while. If it's worth it to you let it run overnight. You would probably get an error message right away if something was wrong. Decrypting 4G of data encrypted with AES128 could take a while on a phone.
I've let it run over night too buddy.
I think I'm going to take the card out of my phone and factory reset it (run without a card until I need more space) because I've read that installing system updates can change the encryption key on the phone, hence not able to read the encrypted SD card. If thats the case, shame on Samsung for not stating that before installing an update!
I don't remember installing an update recently though...
Go to settings, lockscreen and security, screenlock type, and select none. Reboot the phone. U should be able to do what u need to do w/ the SD card now. It's weird but that's how I had to deal w/ that situation. It happens once in a while to me

You, my friend, are a life saver. I did what you said, and it popped up with the Encrypt/Decrypt screen after about 2 minutes once I'd restarted and I tapped Decrypt... hey presto! Took about an hour and a bit to decrypt and then the card was readable!
Thank you so much!
:good::good::good::good::good:
cdigga101 you're an absolute legend!
I spend days with Samsung phone help and Samsung in store trying to get advice.
Your method worked. I owe you a beer, mate.
WOW cdigga101, your method really works. This is freaking amazing!!! I owe you man...how can I repay you!!!!
happy to hear that so many could find help!
I have a similar issue:
- After reboot, the SD card is shown as mounted, folders and files show as encrypted
- when I click on decrypt card an error message explains that the card could not be decrypted
- after this, the SD card is not showing as mounted any more (it says no card inserted)
unfortunately the above did not work for me. any advice would be really great - thank you so much!!

I've been using Dexter's froyo v1.3 for a week or two now, with basically no real issues. About 3 days ago or so, when I powered on my phone - you know how the sd card symbol appears in the status bar right when u turn on phone, it's loading sd card - so I see that symbol, but unlike how it usually is, it doesn't go away after a second (after it's loaded). So I pull down status bar and the icon says "checking for errors" and it doesn't go away at all. SD card just won't load. Oh I should mention -just remembered - I turned it on and I got "error with sd card, you may have to reformat" (or something like that) right before and then it just changed to "checking for errors" after I took out the sd card and reinserted.
Anyways, so my SD card isn't loading, right. I figured it might have something to do with the fact that I was using the SD card that came with it which is low class (2). I tried putting it in an SD card reader and put into my computer and it showed up and worked with no issues. But it just wasn't working on my XT720. So what I did was, I happened to have an extra micro SD card lying around (this one class 4) and I put it into the XT720. It worked just fine. That was a few days ago.
A few hours ago, I was using my camcorder on XT720. After using for quite a while I got "sd card not present, sd card must be present to use camcorder". I left the application and went to settings and my sd card was registered as present. I then went to gallery but I got the same "sd card not present" thing. My phone felt very hot at the time, which I assumed because I was using it for a while. I figured it might be an issue of overheating causing weird things. So I decided to power off my phone for a while and see what happens.
Upon turning on my phone, I was greeted with the SD card icon in the notification bar and upon pulling down; "Checking for errors". Now this new SD card won't load.
This is a really big issue for me, because I really need the SD card for stuff. Both SD cards seem to work fine in SD card reader on PC. Please let me know how I can fix this...
(sorry for making this so long, just wanted to have all info available).
....
Apparently this looks like a huge, long unresponded to issue for many people and not specific to Dexter's Froyo: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2500
I'm going to try some of the solutions people posted, but problem seems unfixed for majority of users .
Gaaaaaah. My Android experience has been plagued with far too many issues....
What sucks is that if I want to flash back to stock to try to use warranty, I'm going to have issues if I need an SD card....
It seems you've already determined the issue, you have excluded the SD card(s) as the source of the problem. This leaves one thing - your phone is defective.
Flash it back to stock and send it in for service.
This issue has absolutely nothing to do with what software is on your phone.

You don't need the sdcard to flash a stock SBF with RSD lite.
I kept having same problem. If u are using move 2 SD or anything like that select auto and not Justin external I had to reformation my card about 3 times b4 I figured it out. Dexter posted somewhere not to use these apps.
similar issue with sd card
The only problem I've had with my sc card is that most of the time after my phone has been rebooted, the sd card will show up as not present once the phone has completely finished booting. Sometimes I can just reboot again and it will pick up on it but usually what I have to do is shut it down, remove the card, start it up and then once it indicates the sd card is not present I can reinsert and it loads just fine. I have an 8gb class 4 that came with the phone.

I tried that once (it was something mentioned in that link I posted) but it didn't work. I'll probably try it out again before attempting to use warranty.
I would also try reformatting the sdcard, just because Windows can read it doesn't mean there aren't issues with the card.
K, so I put it in SD Card reader and into PC and began transferring all the files on the card to a new folder. During this process I got a pop-up a bunch of times telling me specific files were corrupted and unreadable and couldn't be transferred (mostly music filer for the most part). I then formated the card to delete the remaining corrupted stuff. Now put into phone and it registers as being there and now things like camera are working.
Gonna have to see how it fares when stuff are actually on the card, but for now things are looking good.
Thanks for the help guys, will update if I encounter further problems.
EDIT:
And after transferring some music on to it, it still seems to be working fine. Needless to say, I'm quite happy I don't have to go through the hassle of flashing stock and then trying to get a device exchange for warranty...
Though I am slightly worried that the device itself will corrupt things again (since my other SD card also worked fine for a few days). But I did also do a complete factory reset so perhaps there was some app causing issues that no longer will... Guess we'll see what happens.
I had problems with my stock (Cincinnati Bell) SD Card doing a similar thing -- showing up as no card inserted. Sometimes rebooting did the trick in fixing it. Then my phone fried and quit working. I thought it was related.
After I received a new (refurb) from Motorola as a warranty replacement, I used that same card and was getting the same error. So I upgraded to a new 32GB class 4 card and still got the error. I upgraded to Dexter's ROM and it still continued. I'd keep rebooting (three to four times sometimes) and eventually it would go away.
Then I decided to pull everything off the card, reformat & give it an ext3 partition using the method in the video tutorial in these forums. I haven't had the issue since -- it's been about a week now.
So I've been having this issue for about a week now. All the apps installed on my phones SD card once I reboot are not loading up. I know the data is still there because the first time that it happened I spent the better part of day freaking out thinking everything was gone gone. At some point I thought of checking of the data by plugging in into the computer. Turns out (1) all the apps miraculously return (2) I can't mount the SD card anymore (3) I can't unmount the SD card anymore either.
What is the deal? It's kind of annoying to lost everything every time you reboot. I'm not really in the mood to tether my phone each time for the unforeseeable future just to keep everything loaded. Has this happened to anyone before? What should I do?

What do you mean, the icons? I'm going to assume that's what you're referring to, for this reply...
If that's what you meant, icons on the home screen take a few seconds to get themselves drawn, if apps are on SD.
You can switch to a different skin then switch back to your original skin, to get them to redraw. Or delete/reposition them one at a time. It's a workaround, but changing the skin temporarily is faster.
It's a sense bug, I'm pretty sure.
Doesn't happen if apps are installed on the phones internal storage, so until they fix it, move your apps onto internal storage, if you don't want to deal with this each time you reboot. They run faster if they're not on your SD anyway.
Unless you have waaaay more apps than you really need, of course.
Sorry should've been a little more specific. The shortcuts on my home screen are all no longer working and I'm well aware of how long it takes for sense to load them up on startup but even when I go to display all apps it only displays the apps on internal storage. In fact each and every app on the card (in the apps settings) has a funny icon that has a little "sd" on it now and just says computing and will not load.
And since writing this I can no longer get the phone to load any apps from the sd card by tethering it to the computer. It's still accessible - just downloaded today's song from amazon and played it - but apps on it are almost like they're gone.
This happens to me sometimes too. But usually when it happens to me I can go into Settings - Applications - Manage Applications and move the troublesome app to internal storage, and then it's fine. It never completely disappears.
It might do you some good to reformat your SD card. Move everything off of it first, then format it, then put everything back on.
Is it the stock 8GB SD card, or a different one?

Yup.
@homeslice976 copied, formatted (made sure it was FAT32), copied everything back and no dice. Same symptoms, Apps will not load.
@zuriken I don't know why you asked about the stock SD card or not, do you think it needs to be replaced? It's only been since February.

full format, chkdsk /f, still nothing though. This is honestly getting to the point where I'm tempted to switch to another phone. Why can't I access my stuff?
Another new bonus, every time I get some sort of alert it now plays random MP3s from the SD card. What is going on...

I'd try a brand new, good quality SD card before resorting to switching phones.
Have you flashed any custom roms or anything? I didn't see you mention either way.

It's gonna be a little while until I can try a new SD card but I'll get back to you.
The only ROM I loaded was the one to originally root that removed the uploading cap from ATT.
I also solved where the random sounds were coming from apparently it doesn't want to play my selected theme and no matter what I do the only one that works is the original HTC default 2010 one or if I download any only the Celesta theme plays... I have a sinking feeling that copying all this funky data isn't going to resolve anything but I'll give it a go.

Good luck.
Since you haven't been messing with multiple roms and such, I don't know what else it could be, other than the SD card taking a dump.
Okay, so it was a emergency and I had to remove my Micro SD card, so I couldn't unmount it.. Later that I day I was about to play some music when I realized all my songs where gone! .... The same with my pictures that were on the card! (ALL MY NYC PICS FROM MY TRIP I JUST WENT ON ARE ON THERE).... Did removing it from the phone actually make the date unusable or was it when I accidentally hit format SD card but, as soon as I hit it, I hit stop!!! This is crazy, for this had all my NYC pictures on it :/
On a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, that is not reading sim cards, but the sim works in other phones. Could it be that I left it in Airplane mode so long? I am not rooted, or anything like that. Any fixes?

Does the PC reconize the card? If it does but doesnt open you might have chance recovering your data from it, if it shows up as empty your chances are pretty weak (tho with some software you still may be able to get your files back, i have even got my files back after formatting my hdd and renstalling OS). if it shows up as empty, do not copy new content on there
If you go to Transcend website they have a recovery program called recover rx. You can recover lost files with this. I had also once faced a similar problem where all my photos got wiped out by trying to download using a cheap sd card adapter. I used this software to recover all my photos.
try to explore the sd from the pc,mabye it's simple a bug
I have LG P990, which install ICS4.0.4, when i insert new SD card, i dont have mount or format option for new SD card, is that normal, i did download bind application for Music and Movie application to find my song and video. i need bind it every time, what can i do to mount new extra SD card to internal SD card?
This software is really simple free and I have found really good. Recuva.
Install on a PC and connect card select drive on recuva, and start it.
Very simple
If the problem is just deleted data or formatted drive

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas or can point me in the right direction to solve this. Yesterday I started getting messages that the apps that were installed on my sd card stopped working...........then the gallery was gone (all my pics) now there's a message in the corner that says Blank SD card......(card is bland or has unsupported filesystem) do you want to format...........I've tried taking the card out and plugging into a PC however it says its a read-only. I don't want to format, is there any way to get all my pics and data back
any help is appreciated

Unfortunately this is mostly a lost cause. This is a known issue on the Galaxy S3, and I've heard a couple of other phones as well, including the Note 2. I've had this happen THREE times on my phone, to the point that I just don't even use an SD card anymore.
From what I've read the brand and size of the SD card doesn't make a difference.
You may be able to recover some of your pics and other files by using file recovery software on your computer. I used a program called Pandora Recovery, and while it spit out the files using different random names, at least I got a majority of my pics back (I had over 1000 on the card).
Beyond that there is no way to recover the data on the card. Once you try recovery software, you'll have to let your phone format the card if you want to use it again. Even Windows won't read the data from the card in it's current state.
Thank you for your help........im going to give Pandora a try and see what happens. I did hear about a program called DiskDigger Pro........so wish me luck..........I wish I was more pro active in reconizing the signs but it just happened out of no where

This problem is why I will not be buying Samsung phones again. It is BS that I can't even use my 32GB SD card because it will eventually fail I will lose everything on it. It has happened twice in 7 months with the phone already.

disk digger worked great for me except for the occasional corrupt. You have to format first.
Thanks a lot for sharing information about other products. However, while scanning the corrupt SD card encountering error messages and unable to recover entire data. In order to overcome such problems, use Remo Recover tool to restore data from corrupt or formatted SD card.
Just wanted to let you guys know that my old SD cards got corrupted because I tried to configure the metadata of my songs through such apps like player pro and etc. I have a 64gb right now and its been working fine for over a year because I just manually configure everything when I connect it to my computer.

Hello there, first poster in XDA here. Let me tell you my issue that's been driving me crazy for the past weeks.
I've been using a Motorola Moto G3 for about two years now, running Marshmellow, with a Toshiba 32GB SD Card formatted as internal storage. My problem started a few weeks ago, when I tried to backup my Whatsapp files from internal storage to the SD Card part, and I think something went wrong in the process, since it did, indeed, move my files, but, since then the SD Card would unmount now and then, by its own accord.
I assumed my SD Card went corrupt and tried to save most of my data, but, as I said, it would unmount itself, lasting each time less and less time mounted until, finally, my phone stopped recognizing it. I played along, not being able to save anything else on the phone, since I had no more free space.
The thing is, yesterday I bought a new SD Card since I finally discovered my old one was corrupted, and I formatted this new one as internal storage as well, but now I still can't save save pictures, whether I download them or try to make a screencap. I can still download new apps, but it's quite a pain.
Anyone know how could I fix this?
Thanks in advance
EDIT:
Oh, and to list things I've already tried:
- Tried updating Android version
- Tried shutting down and rebooting a few times
- Tried wiping out data from "External Storage" and "Media Storage" in the Apps section then rebooting
I don't think you understand "adopted storage"... once you make a card adopted (internal) storage, you don't have any external storage, or an sd card from an apps point of view.

Yeah, I know. However, when I go to Settings->Storage, it still recognizes the SD Card. I would show you some screenshots, but then again, I can't save pictures. The thing is. I thought I couldn't download stuff because my old SD card was corrupted, but even with the new one, I still can't manage to get it done.

That's ok, I know what it a looks like.
Did you perform the migration of data in the adoption phase? If not, there should be an option in the 3-dot menu on the storage page.

The thing is, as soon as I moved the files, the SD card started unmounting itself from time to time. I succesfully moved my Whatsapp files, but everything went downhill from there. I don't know if that's what you were asking...

You need a different/better microSD card if that is occurring.
And no, migrate data is part of the adoption process and if it didn't complete then the card isn't being used properly. Once the card is adopted you should not be selecting internal or external storage or moving things, that defeats the purpose of adopted storage.
The reality is adopted storage is garbage, it doesn't work quite as well as we all hoped... Which is why many manufacturers disable it, and most experienced users don't recommend it.
