some the looking up iv done seems like cricket should work (tho their website says it wont cuzz they wanna sell me a baby phone) im on att now and its good but i need unlimited and cricket has that, and they us att towers so not seeing why it wouldnt work .. any other CHEAP unlimited plans, off brand carriers that we can confirm it works with well? i think i read tmoblie but they are a bit too high for me tbh
Cricket works fine....

I'm currently deployed and going back to states in july.
I dont want to pay extreme price to get unlimited data/talk/mms.
I saw boost mobile, cricket, and few other having $40-50 for unlimited everything.
But here is the question.
I really want to use HTC phone with 4.3 screen.
What will be the best choice for me?
I have friend selling Evo 4g from sprint for $200 but I read I cant use it on boostmobile. Other than that I can get desireHD for around 450 unlocked(GSM).
Need to be 4.3 inch screen with unlimited service from any network.
You could also try Simple Mobile. They are a GSM provider so an Evo 4g wouldnt work but a DesireHD should work just fine. They run $60 a month and I believe are using the same towers as T-Mobile uses also Wal-Mart has a GSM provider they are just starting to get into the market and I know they use T-Mobile's network just unsure as to what a total unlimited plan is cause they never actually say anything about data on their commercials on the radio either way there are two others you can look into.
You could just get Sprint's $69.99 plan, but with a smartphone it's +$10, then insurance (which I would recommend) is another $7. Everything is unlimited except calls to landlines, but you get 450 mins for that. With nights & weekends, you'd only use those minutes Mon-Fri, 7a-7p. So unless you call landlines all the time, it would be more than you'd need. It's not super cheap, but cheaper than any other major carriers.
Also be aware that AT&T just bought out T-Mobile, so say goodbye to decent prices there.
I love my Evo, even if it is getting a little dated. If you can get your hands on an Evo, it is possible to flash it to Boost. I think it's illegal, could be wrong. But I've heard nothing but horror stories about doing it. It'll save you $30/month, but you'll have to buy the phone at full price.
I'm out of ideas, sorry.
Thank you. I just found brand new unlocked DesireHD for $330 on craigslist. Going to tell my bro to pick it up.
Hope it works out when I get back.
Going to haggle with friend and see if i can get that evo for $150.

GO FOR DESIRE HD!!
Hello. Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap (sub $200) Android phone with no contract for AT&T? My wife is wanting to get her first smart phone, but she is not due for an upgrade until January 2012. We are on AT&T through a business plan. I'm looking for something cheap and something that can run custom ROMs (has an active development base). I'm running a Samsung Captivate with Serendipity 7 now. I'd like to get an android phone for my wife and I don't have a problem setting her up for a data plan, but I'm trying to keep it under 200.
You might want to try one of the prepaid networks some like virgin/boost etc. many have decently cheap phones android phones off contract. If you do not mind being on a CDMA network instead of GSM you could always try the LG Optimus V it retails for 149.99 and the plans are cheap as well. Just food for thought.
Buy X10, its cheap **** when you buy it used, and until you dont have custom ROM/Kernel it really sucks, so you can play with this things Had it before really pain, even Had LG Optimus V/One yes that one have official dev in cyanogen. But i suggest something like Xperia Mini, i dont know price bcuz its still not out.
Ok I am a little noobish when it comes to the differences between networks. Can I unlock a boost or virgin phone and use it on att's network? I have thought about changing carriers too, but I would hate to do that and then never have a signal anywhere (i work IT in a rural town). The price difference between like att and tmobile is crazy though. I currently am on a business plan through my work and pay around 75 a month for 550 minutes and another 35 per month for unlimited data on one line.

No you can not use a CDMA phone (boost/sprint/metropcs/alltell-verizon/virgin) on a GSM network, (AT&T/T-Mobile). I'd go on to each of the carriers I mentioned websites and use their coverage maps to determine if you have service where you are.
im with at&t
new phone is atrix(from ebay)
last phone i got from att was an lg shine
ive been (grandfathered) on unlimited everything for $20
ive had 3 smartphones since (htc raphel, fuse, and galexy s) all on att, they didnt have problems. i guess its the 4g thing
did updates on the atrix when i got it and was messaged by att saying theyre changing my plan. not cool, i dont need any faster internet.
i read that its helpless on sprint, is there any hope for me with att? ill be calling them soon...
dont want to pay an extra 40 a month for WAY LESS internet...
ps if i need to i can 'upgrade' to a basic cell phone again
thanks
So I'm in an all out WAR with AT&T right now. Not going to get into anything beyond the fact that their customer service reps treated me like flaming doodoo while i was nothing but nice. Game over
So any who, what other carriers in the USA will my infuse work on? Including the virgin mobile and boost and whatever other cheap unlimited plans out there?
Thanks!
Kt
EDIT:
Let me add that it has to be a reliable network lol
I think it is called Straight Talk, it uses the same frequencies as Att.

I was thinking about going to them when my contract is up as well.

T-Mobile, straight talk, metro pcs ...I've unlocked and successfully ran on those networks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
sweet metro pcs has decent service around here. Awesome!
Really Do your research before you jump ships. Infused works on metro? And what speeds would you be getting?

Yea I will for sure. but right now at&t has really screwed things up with me. They've treated me like crap and called me names. yes. seriously. and yes i was being nice. long story like i said.
But I'm living in an area with **** service but don't want to switch to verizon....bc its too expensive.
I'd rather be able to keep my infuse and unlock it.
Any other sources you guys can recommend? Google has brought me back here to canadian threads and not much else.
nvm i googled tmobile n infuse...seeing what i get

I understand wanting to keep your current phone, but fail to follow that Verizon is too expensive. The calling plans are exactly the same price as AT&T, the 2GB plan on Verizon is $5 more, and you can get 5 GB on Verizon for $5 more than the 4 GB plan on AT&T.

insurance is triple the price, mobile to mobile is Verizon to Verizon, att is any carrier mobile. possible surcharges ect...
depends on your needs and usage I guess.

not sure but I thought metro pcs was cdma, but they are the only service with lte in my area, if they also cater to GSM or I was mistaken about cdma then I may need to get an unlocked lte something or other and drop att.
anyway strait talk is powered by a number of carriers. they use att similar cards, T-Mobile Sims, and also have cdma phones. the sim is locked to the phone. basically the imei is more important than the sim and if you use the sim and sell the phone your sim is deactivated if the phone you buy is reactivated. also many of the phones use other ways to lock the sim. the only phones that the sim is att and compatible with the infuse are $200 Nokia smart phones as far as I know.
supposedly consumer cellular is att. haven't heard of any trying it.

I use less than 2g a month and barely any minutes, their cheapest plan put me with taxes and fees and unlimited texts at over 130$ ...not just a quote from a store that was my old bill in 09. att is about 110 and I switched it to a family plan with a friend so its only about 80 a month now.
Consumer Cellular is AT&T - it's what my parents are using with my old Infuse.
However, Consumer Cellular specializes in very basic no-frills service - they're great if you want a dirt-cheap extremely light-use plan, but at even moderate use they can become very expensive. For example, their highest data plan is $20 for 200MB.
An Infuse on T-Mobile will be 2G-only.

well....honestly....how bad s 2g? bc i don't have the money to get any other phone and the AT&T is most definitely getting canceled. I live in 11931 zip code...what other options do I have?
Unless....well...there is a case opened with AT&T and I, and the only resolution i could come to was to cancel the service. I had the VP of AT&T on the phone earlier (yes its that bad) and he asked if there was any other resolution and I said I believe my only option since i have no service here (and other things that happened) I have to cancel. He said he'll call me back monday.
Is there another phone option that would get better service? I mean I love my infuse and all my pretty bling cases for it so I don't really want to get rid of it...
does the GS2 get better signal and do the cases fit the same? ::crossing fingers::

Switching phones may be the other option if you want to keep at&t. I don't get reception with my infuse in areas my family or friends do have signal in, and they have at&t. GS2 is smaller I believe, well I know the screen is. But don't know about their signals.

hmm...well tmobile does work over wifi and has super green coverage for my area. my step brother has it and when he comes here he has full service on his galaxy. It would only cost me 40 a month for the pay as you go....and thats compared to about 80 a month now...
I don't have a job yet and that would be a better option....but not if my phone is going to suck balls.
Anyone think it will suck the big one being on 2g?

Well back in the day 2g was cool. But I was stuck on it while everybody was getting 3G then 4g, and now that I'm on the infuse, I've been spoiled by the speeds. So yes, "it will suck the big one". You don't want to sell the infuse?

Ehhhh not really. I have all these pretty bling cases (yes I'm a chick its like shoes and pocketbooks) that probably won't fit the galaxy s2...and on top of that I do really like my phone. I just ordered a larger battery for it too.
I also don't see it getting all that much online...maybe 225 for it unlocked if i figured that out...and that wouldn't be enough money for me to get an s2 without a contract for tmobile pay as you go...or wait can you use that phone for pay as you go? because its not in the same section as the other no contract devices. I'm confused about that.
The main thing is to have a phone that works for less money or the same.
oh crap...i have the best buy buy back....
im going to buy an s8+ but kinda impatient to wait till the 9th for unlocked version lol.
was wondering if i can get the att version and work with cricket with no issues and if att will unlock my phone since im paying full price
att phones will work on cricket without unlocking.
I did it woth a galaxy s5 and s7 that were att branded. Cricket worked flawlessly. Not to say that ATT may be catching on that they are getting screwed out of money by people like me buying the phone outright and not paying the 100$/month for their fast unlimited plan when I get almost the same on cricket for 60. They could lock this one from cricket if they were smart. Nothing but getting a network unlock but I am popping my cricket sim in first thing wjen it arrives on the 20th. Ill report back
Why would att block cricket? Cricket is not that great for some people, they throttled download speed to 8mb. I switched from cricket to att gophone, 6gb data NOT throttled with rollover for 40$ a month.

The average person does not need more than 8mbps. 4mb is suitable for netflix, spotify and everything else. The only thing that comes to mind that would need more bandwidth than 8mb is torrenting.
And the average person is not going to pay 60$ a month. 40$ for 6gb data of 4G LTE not throttled with rollover on gophone is great deal
I forgot where I was for a minute. I should start sourcing my opinions with at least a little fact
https://support.speedtest.net/hc/en...-do-I-need-for-Skype-Netflix-video-games-etc-
If you see anything to the contrary that counters this, let me know. If ATT would really be that much better I'm sure alot of people would pay the extra $$
gee, I wonder why wireless carriers keep building 3g, then 4g and soon 5g if 8mb download is enough. I just don't like the throttled speed at 8mb.
To each his own. It all boils down to preference.
Ordered mine from BB today to do the same, pop cricket sim card and keep going unlimited for $55/month w autopay.
Ian B
At&t owns cricket and shares their towers so blocking them would be a extremely dumb move. Yes you can use an at&t phone on cricket I have done that previously with my old HTC one m8 and other phones all you need to do is put the SIM card in and it should work fine out of box
