Is there a way to get rid of the Volume icon, Eject icon, and whatever icon this is with the x in the screen?

Malaysk gave us the ability to hide a few of those icons with V5 of his ROM, basically he created an Xposed Module now that he has included Xposed in his ROM stating with V5. It doesn't let you hide the ones you are asking about specifically though. You can always ask him to incorporate that into a feature version of his xposed module. To answer your other question, the icon that looks like a mouse touchpad with the x in the middle activates the screen dimmer, yes, its useless.
Try to edit /system/build.prop using rootexplorer. Find the following lines:
ro.product.barvolume=true
ro.product.bareject=true
ro.product.barbacklight=true
Replace "true" to "false".

To install you need to be rooted, just copy mms.apk into system/app on root of phone, youll have to overwrite the original obviously, probably wise to make a copy if you want to go back. Once copied change permission to rw-r--r-- then reboot your phone and it will be changed with new smileys, apk is attached to post.
Nice, Screenshot in OP showing new smileys would be better
Edit- check post #4.
I have put a screenshot, can you not see it?

Hello there!
I'd like to request the battery % with the number situating beside the battery icon (just like Samsung's layout).
Thank you!

It looks hella sexy, but is there any way how you can get it without getting "L"?

It's the same keyboard, it just looks different in L
Download the files from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/android-l-device-t2796089
After you push both files to their respective places, make sure you change the permissions for both of them to rw-r-r.
Reboot.
Once you're booted back up, go into the Google Keyboard settings --> Advanced Settings --> Themes.
There should be a new theme, which is the theme used in L

Can you tell me which one? There is so many I can't tell. Not really familiar with all the elements there.
If you decompile systemui, it'll be in response/layout/status_bar_expanded.xml

The sign shows that an app is having root access right now.
Pull down the quick settings and tap on the root tile, it will show you which app is using it.
Thanks. I'm fine with that. Just don't want to see the icon
There is no way to disable the icon other than closing the app which is using root.
You could switch to SuperSU which will replace the builtin root.
I don't have any experience with it on cm13 though.
If you could find the location of the # icon image, you might be able to replace it with a null image.
Anyone know where that 'image' is stored?
There is an xposed module which can disable it. Please check below thread.

Open settings >dev options>manage root access>unmark notification toast Done after reboot the sign will disappear(worked for me lineage os 14.1,nexus4)
