anyway to recover data from device with broken screen? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

I dropped my phone while on my honeymoon and really want to recover some of the photos taken. The screen is cracked and when I turn it on the blue led stays lit and my computer doesn't detect the phone. Is there anyway to retrieve the files from it? Thanks

You can odin twrp custom recovery, one of the latest versions and reboot straight from odin to custom recovery. The phone should mount storage from there so you can get to the data.
It will be tricky since you don't have a screen to see what you are doing though and hope that there isn't anything else going on with the phone.
Use at least v3.0.2 or version.

Also, remove and/or reseat the sim card in case it got loose connection somewhow that might prevent it from booting.

See if this tool helps to recover data from device with broken screen, but it only work for Samsung Galaxy S or Note.
If it doesn't work send it to replace the screen in customer service central and ask the staff do not wipe the data.

[Help] Money reward guaranted. No fisical buttoms

Guys, I have a problem that is driving me mad. I have a Huawei u8100. I recently installed a custom rom that might not be adecuate for my mobile. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295844)
First, the ubication of the backward arrow doesn't fit with the "touchable zone". I have to press it a few cm left to make that butom work. Well, I try to recalibrate a few times and now I have a phone with no one of the buttoms working
The buttoms are not phisical at all, I mean, they are touchable but they are at the end of the screen. Well, the problem is that if I touch the buttoms, the phone thinks i want to touch the end of the screen (for example my launcher dock).
I wipe all things , and installed many rooms and try with thousand of backups, but nothing worked. And obviously i can't fix this with the calibration app.
I'm desperate, I need something to help me. I promise I will give you all the money that I have in my paypal account (Around 2 dollars, it's not much, i'm not gonna lie). Please, help me. Sorry for my english.

Happened to me twice before, it is a pain in the rear. To fix you need to change your lcd density. Many apps from the market can do this. Find out what your screen density is supposed to be. Now here is the tricky part. When it happened to me none of my buttons would work on the touchscreen because they where all out of frame. I managed to remember how to scroll down to change the screen density and I use my trackpad to scroll down and change the screen density. Now what you can do is download a rom that has the screen density setting for your device, do a hard reset and flash that rom. Or, if memory serves me correctly, you can use the update file for your firmware version. Create a folder called dload on your sd card, through using 91pcsuite and connecting phone to pc via usb, go into recovery mode and mount sd card to inable the cre3ation of this file on the root of your sd card. Next you must find the UPDATA.APP file with your phones original firmware. Place that inside the dload folder you just created on your phones sd card. Now, switch your device off. Now press end call button, volume up and power on key. Keep holding all these down until your screen says, Installing firmware update. Once that is done the phone will switch off. Switch your device back on and give it time to load. Everything should now be just as if you had recently bought your phone. Anyways, hope you come right dont worry about the money, Merry Christmas, and let me know if you still struggling. If this doesn't work then you better hope someone is going to buy you a new phone for Christmas. It took me 5 hours to get mine going again. Never play with screen density settings and whach what roms you flash as some have some hidden B.S. Good luck and God Bless.

if you want to change your density you need to change ro.sf.lcd_density=
in the build.prop in your system files. (to maybe 160 or something)
Men, you are a genious. I managed to install the app, but i'm too scaried about changing this because i don't know what numbers i have to put. Can you please tell me that?

Hey bro, if you have downloaded a custom rom.zip, open that zip file in windows with unzip etc. You will see a file called Build.prop, open that file in your windows with notepad etc, Now only go and change the part that says some thing like ro.ril.desity=250, This is just an example I am giving you so do not use these exact numbers. Once you find out the density for your phone screen then you can add your density into that line(i.e.=250). Once you have changed that, save the file and put it back into your rom.zip. Windows will ask you if you want to replace the existing file in build.prop, and you must say yes. Once that is waxed, wipe your phone clean, sd-card,battery stats, rotate settings, everything. Then plug ya phone up to pc via usb, open 91pcsuite and transfer your edited rom.zip file onto your sd card. Flash that to ya phone and reboot, bang, after waiting to reboot you should have the correct screen lcd density size etc. Follow these steps to the letter and make sure you have a rom.zip that relates to your phone. Otherwise, download original firmware for your device, put it on your sd card in a folder called dload. Then pull out battery and turn on by holding endcall(red button), volume up and power on. Hold these keys down in order and keep each one pressed while pressing the other. You will see your phone saying"installing and unpacking firmware update", once this is done reboot ya phone. Either of these methods will work for you and dont be scared to try these things out. Your phone is basically useless now so anything you do can only improve the situation, so go wild and have a ball. This is the only way we learn, do not stress, sooner or later you will wax it. Especially if you follow directions well and can do google searches well. Anyways bro God Bless, hope you wax it.

What has most likely happened is you used an app like advanced settings/ toolbox pro, and you changed your lcd settings, which is what I did twice. It then tells you to reboot and then your screen is screwed. Now, what you have to remember is somewhere on your phone, these stupid settings have been stuck/glued in place, because it seems that you are unable to rectify by wiping. Make sure you install the correct recovery, try huwei ideos 3.0.0.5, this works well. Then try wiping again before installing/flashing a new rom. If you can wipe everything correctly then these settings will dissappear and installing a new rom will fix the lcd density prob. Wipe, wipe, wipe.

Oh,and make sure you get the exact density for your screen, not smaller, not bigger, exact. Otherwise you sill not have the correct aspect ratio no matter what you do. Exact, exact, exact.

Mmmm. I opened all the roms that i' ve found for my phone and all says density=120 (included the wrong rom). And that's my actually rom density (and that's the correct density for my ´phone i guess, because it's the only one that gets the screen looks good and not strange)
And, I have never play with any other app apart from the calibration app (a very ****ing idiot app, because it only ask for two "press" and then it calibrates, diferrently from the calb ap from the stock room that ask for 4 points { and i hve problem with the ones in the bottom of the screen, near the real buttoms]
I have done the dload method, (with tawahahas help) like i said before and nothing happened.
I will try now to erase everything with clockwork (i can't install 3.05 beacuse i can only find the bat file for 3.04 , and i don't know how to intalled it with a different method) like you said, but I have done this before with amonra (which has more wipes options than the clockwork) and nothing happened. I don't know :S PLeeeeeeeeeease help. Thank you so much!.

[Q] bootloop on htc one x running stock settings...HELP

hey guys. I was trying to connect to public WiFi today and my phone just shut off. It goes through the boot process. I get the first HTC guietly brilliant, then i get the att, then the last htc ONE, it vibrates, goes black like my home screen is about to pop up and nope, no home screen. It goes right back to being quietly brilliant. My phone is not rooted or flashed or any of that junk (my nook however is lol) Its been stuck on repeat for a good 5 hours now. Ive read online a couple of different things to go about doing, but they are all having to do with rooted phones. I am under warranty, so i can get a new phone, however i do have some precious pictures of my new baby cousin and my father that just recently passed that i REALLY DONT want to give up...can someone pleeassseee help?!?!?!??!?!
"fastboot erase cache" will work on a stock phone
also find a way to get into safe mode which i'm not sure how to do
well if u dont know how to do it, then i sure as heck dont know how to do it. and "fastboot, erase, cache"??? lol i know u know that was probably coming lmao
in that case hold volume down + power for until lights flash and stop, then keeping holding volume down and tap power until you get into bootloader, then go recovery. once you get there press volume up to see dialog and selections, select wipe cache, once finished reboot.
ok so I go to recovery and shows the 2 green arrows in circle with a green arrow pointing at an image of a cell phone then it almost immediately switches to an image of a phone with a red triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle and it stays like that for a minute and then reboots and starts the evil cycle of being quietly brilliant all over again
i can't help you anymore more than google could easier, as a stock phone is worthless to me so i know little about a stock phone.
got it all figured out...thanks for your help and for um being so nice, i say sarcastically.

Similar to bootloader, except you start pressing vol down while the boot screen is showing (but before the phone fully boots), instead of before.

Works fine on CleanROM JL Beta. Pretty sure I've used it on other Sense based customs as well. Maybe its a Sense feature, and doesn't work on AOSP ROMs?

[q] i killed it worse!

So a while back I tried to flash god knows what to my xt926 with a low battery..its been some time now so I really cant remember....and of course it took a poo on me. I got the team black hat factory cable and plugged it into the computer. The only thing that happens was the led turned solid green for a few and went out. The computer said it was "malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it". I can not do ANYTHING with the phone. Nothing shows on the screen and can not load into ap fastboot. I did of course try vol up down pwr...nothing..
I did notice that vol up dwn pwr does restart it but nothing shows on the screen ever.
Just killed mine in a similar way. Opened it, unplugged battery to see if I could force it to reset...Nothing. PC recognizes it as QHSUS_DLOAD...Well, the CPU is alive, and knows its' software is missing. Problem now is finding a way to stick the bootloader back into the eMMC. I'll see if I can copy the procedure from other Moto MSM devices.

[Q] Forcefully Recovering Data from a Nexus5

I was using a new Nexus5 and had not enabled backups as was traveling but dropped and broke the screen.. now screen is not working and looks like logicboard/motherboard has some issues too so a replacement LCD also doesnt works(only shows pixels on it)
but the phone is still working as iit syncs and beeps on emails, bbm and whatsapp messages etc.
is there a way to recover data from it.. the most imp data to recover includes camera pics, bbm history & pics and whatspp messages and pics.
Running lollipop 5
The USB debugging is not checked and the screen lock is there so phone gets detected when connected to PC but folders are not visible.. is there any way to overcome this?

ADB and bootloader are two different things. But if you can boot into custom recovery, you can use MTP.

The ADB and custom recovery can only work if there is a display.. without that not an option to fiddle anything.. In my humble opinion the solution will be somewhere on the hardware level getting access to the file system

Actually it is. You need to be sure to turn your phone off first. Then manually boot to bootloader (power+volume down button). When you connect the phone to PC it will recognize it.

I guess you can do a adb pull without display.
1. Reboot into bootloader - Requires no display
2. Move to recovery - guess two Vol- press, again requires no display
3. U should be having recovery version of adb once into recovery
4. Use adb pull to get all the files -- Requires no display.
So i guess should be possible to get all the files without display. Ain't i right?
Please let me know if I am wrong or having any trouble proceeding.

Yes,I do it all the time. It works fine.
It sounds like you got a new panel for it. Are you sure that its not a bad panel. Ive gotten a few bad ones off ebay. (they were brand new,but most are from china)
Also inspect the connectors, both board side and panel side, with a bright light and a magnifier. Look for anything like a fragment of glass or plastic or a spec of dirt. Make sure all the pins are where they should be and not bent.. Also inspect the board the same way. Look for any physical damage. Theres likely to be little you can do to fix it,but if you find something came off at least you wont be spinning your wheels wondering why it wont work.
My first instinct is that you may have simply gotten a bad screen.
IF everything looks good, do you have a pattern, pin or PW on it? Just because the screen does not work, does not mean the digitizer does not work. I have a crazy idea, in fact its something I'm making up off the top of my head right now,but it should work. You will need to figure out where the things you need are on the screen. Its easiest if you have Its easiest if you have a working nexus 5 in front of you,so if you can find a friend with one it will help.. If not someone here can probably help you.
If you have a pattern lock on it,its probably easiest. Take the other Nexus, bring up a pattern lock screen. Take your piece of paper and put it over the screen. Run your fingernail around the edges to make a crease. Make a dot over the camera with a felt tip pen. You will use these to align your paper. Now make a dot over each of the buttons for the pattern lock. Also make a dot over each of the soft buttons. (the menu, home and back buttons) THere are a couple ways you might do this. You could make several papers or you could use colored pens.
I suggest colored pens so you dont have to move your paper and can tape it in place. You will want to get your example phone into the same configuration. For instance you obviously need the lock screen type to be the same. Your goal is to turn on usb debugging. Then you can get your files.
So,go through each step with a different colored pen. First bring up the lock screen. If its a pattern, mark the buttons. If its a password, you will need to mark the keys. I would just put a dot in the middle and reference a picture of the keyboard to get the right ones. That should get you in and let the phone connect to your computer so you can copy files. If you had to,you could probably even enable usb developer mode like that y using the drop down menu from the top of the screen.

If the phone is not unlocked,it will wipe everything when he unlocks it.
yeah bro I think you can recover the files.( yes you can in the windows environment ).you need to have the adb.
just in case you know a friend who does own a nexus and if you can burrow that for 30min( just for a reference ) , you will be approximately knowing in which menu the phone does lie.
}power off the device( both in case )
}boot to bootloader ( power button + volume down keys)
}now 2 times volume up key and then power key ( boots you to the custom recovery )
}now connect the device to the PC ( sdk+adb enabled ) you can now use the MTP
}or use the abd commands to pull data into the PC
let me know if that worked...
@wickedrody Do you have custom recovery?

Home button/fingerprint sensor stopped working

My U11 (64Gb Eu version) is completely stock, bootloader locked. Today the Home button stopped working-including the fingerprint sensor. It doesn't recognize any touch. After some restart-wich didn't solve the problem-I decided to make a factory reset. It didn't help and on top of that, the fingerprint menu has disappeared from Settings .
Did anybody experienced something like this?
If something that should be in the Settings section is missing after a Factory Reset & you didn't modify it, sounds like it's time to get a warranty replacement.
I had this once after getting the phone wet, dryed off imidiately but took about an hour for the fingerprint reader and button to work again. Maybe not as water resistant as they're advertising with?

It was never really wet... Started quite suddenly. It must be some hardver related issue. I bought it only two weeks ago, so I called the shop to arrange the warranty. Thank you guys for the responses.:good:

Just had to power phone off and on to make home pottom work again
that is weard
Having the problem now. I did not get the phone wet at all. I tried resetting it, no luck. Fingerprint option is in settings, but doesn't load, with the phone freezing for a bit, and then nothing.
And I'm experiencing the same issue. Please someone help. HTC customer service is the worst I ever experienced and I don't want to send the phone to them.
EDIT : PROBLEM SOLVED !
JUST BOOT INTO SAFE MODE AND IT WILL WORK ! After that you can reboot normally and it will continue to work.
Boot to safe mode : turn off your HTC u11, press power button to turn it on as you do usually, but when the white htc logo appears, press and hold volume down until the phone boots completely.
Didn't work for me
I think you have to reset your phone to factory settings. Backup your data and try it. Let it boot, then power off the phone and power it again to safe mode.

Didn't work for me. Reset everything except internal storage and recovery. Didn't even get asked for fingerprint on setup...like the hardware disappeared. Woke up next day, rebooted, and it worked. PITA to not have a home button!

It happened to me again. Two nights in a row. I was walking in rain lastnight, and problem started several hours later. Seems to be issue on other devices as well: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...vailable-issue-started-out-of-nowhere.450914/
If we have TWRP, would we wipe or erase cache? I thought erase was more thorough?
I followed advice in above thread and let phone battery fully drain, and tried to power on again to make sure battery is dead. Then fully charge to 100%. Don't think that worked, it was late. This am, once again, after charging all night, I reboot and it works.
I'm on Leedroid, rooted with AOSP lock screen. I wonder if the "don't require PIN after boot" setting is causing problems? And this option is both in Lee Tweaks and System Security.... not sure I understand the difference. I'm also having to enter a PIN on a System prompt when I boot... not the normal lockscreen. Also, I have to enter a PIN when I start TWRP.... weird.
So is this hardware or software issue? Should we send it back? Is there a 30 day money back guarantee?
Hi,
I have the issue since last update I did recently is 1.24.400.8 . Did factory reset multiple times and fingerprint settings option has totally disappeared. Did get wet in water or anything. Please help. It's a new phone and did not expect this from HTC
Please suggest if any workaround or fixes. Thanks.

Well the last two nights mine was fixed in the morning after full charge and reboot. When it worked this am, I deleted all fingerprints and reprogrammed. Has worked all day so far.....
(Edit) Stopped working after one day.

I dont know how it started but, since last update 1.27.400.8, the fngerprint aka home button is almost dead. How does full charge and reboot helps? Does booting in safe mode helps ?
can we downgrade HTC u11 to first firmware
Before updating
Can this make the sensor work again?

Should I make factory reset from settings or in recovery mode?
