My suggestion was to port the rom from another (for ex: JB Roms' for motorola and HTC has camera working) and fix the cam issue on samsung's JB rom.
Ideas of all kinds are welcome!

I recently bought 2 Samsung devices: the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) and the Galaxy S5. P605 and G900F.
I used to install cyanogen mod on my devices, because I like a slim android system with only the most necessary apps and features. For both my devices the cyanogen mod is not available yet, which means they are both still unused in my desk.
I have read several threads where people were informed that they lose key features of those devices if installed with a custom ram and also that it is senseless to buy those devices and then flashing them with a custom rom. So I am aware of all that, non the less I am curious if there is a good slim mod that can support as many key features as possible but come without any pre installed google play and android stuff on them.
Any advice on making my devices usable with any mod would be much appreciated. Pointing me in the right direction of a mod that supports my devices would already be enough usually I can figure out everything else on my own.
Obviously I already googled but there seem to be many fake pages around and Im unsure what to trust.

I'm not specialist about Sammy devices, but I know that latest Cyanogen version CM 11 hasn't ported to your both devices yet.
I can give some links, but I cannot tell you which roms are best than other.

If you want a really light rom, you need to wait a release like Slim - Omni or CM

For my S5 I will use the unofficial Cyanogen mod for now as suggested by fxdil. Thank you for that.
fxdil, does the link you gave me work for my S5? also it says unified, does that mean it works for all devices, could I also install that on my tab?
Actually I cannot give a link for a rom, because you don't have pure AOSP for your Galaxy 10.1 - 2014

This ROM is basically working and WiFi is OK.
But missing many features because SystemUI.apk is not working.
No sound.
No notification area.
No wall paper.
No lock screen.
No brightness control.
No camera.
No center button…..etc.
I put this rom for developers, not for daily use.
I hope someone will improve this rom.
Install:Use TWRP. Format the phone before installaion.

Maybe, it is the The Bootloader...
You need to revert back to the old bootloader if u want to use 4.4.2 based roms...
The bootloader was updated to 5.o just before the lollipop update...
I think this is a Kitkat Bootloader
Needs to be installed through odin

Dude why don't you wait a bit till you get those files on MM or LP and base the ROM on DeadMan's CM13... The older CMs are really laggy, with no camera, and Yamaha driver issues, huge battery drainage also... I'd recommend you not to work on those, where as the CM13 is almost bug free, at least no noticeable bugs, And the devs are great, they could help you a bit too if we ask them nicely enough... And both the ways I'd love to test your Roms... May it be KK or MM
am still doing the big tests to port over a MTK Chipset Rom To Exynos both are Arm V7a
and installation tutorial will be there
and am trying on both bases Kitkat and lollipop cause both at least have AOSP CM Bases
And Boot Loader of LP Works for Other kitkat Roms But Will Do Still Try and update you guys
This will fix VoLTE in OEM ported ROMs such as MIUI, VibeUI, Amigo os and many more and not in compiled ROMs
All you need to do is just replace the files in patches from your stock ROM.
Note that your stock ROM must support VoLTE to get it fixed in ported ROMs
Edit build.prop as per your stock build.prop I.e, add lines related to ril, volte, ims lines from stock build.prop to port build.prop
This has been tested in MT6753/35/37/37m/35m
Coolpad Note 3/lite/plus
Lenovo k4 note
Lenovo p1m
Infinix Note 2 and so on
Remember to give credits if you have used this guide
