Hey guys, I recently had to downgrade my Xperia to kitkat since it softbricked, and now I'm wondering if I should go back to the marshmallow rom as I previously were, or go to Lollipop.
What do you guys think is the best rom in terms of stability, battery life, camera, etcetera?
Marshmallow IMHO.
Lollipop, battery life, if the phone is not in constant use - because of the old STAMINA mode.
The only real downgrade in mm is the caching and ram management. Everything else is in favor of marsmalmall.

What about SD card support I've heard some claim it loses it in marshmallow on the Z3 ?

This and battery life is bad too. I will probably go back to LP. Caché managment is really bad.
Battery, multitasking and almost everything but has a very annoying bootloop/"can't-be-turned-on" bug that makes this phone unusable : LP 5.0
Stability, memory management, but has a bad battery, auto brightness bug, and lockscreen lag bug: 5.1
Almost perfect Software (and camera shutter animation which I liked lol) but with outdated version and less great UI : 4.4
Could be perfect software, with horrible RAM management and less greater battery : 6.0 (if only the multitasking is as good as before, this will be my best, stable software on any phone I've used, despite an "okay"-performed battery life, not as insane as 5.0, but I could live with that).

You can't universally enable SD Card support for every apps like in Kitkat or Lollipop, instead you need to use this Xposed module work around: http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.balamurugan.marshmallowsdfix

You seem very confused You know that LP has SD card support and Sony's current official version of MM for our Z3 doesn't so unless you think everyone roots there's Z3 or that it comes rooted then I don't quite see where your coming from I'm not currently rooting my phone cause I was no longer able to hide root from my Telus on the Go live tv app so I chose live tv over having Root with all the exposed modules added.

I have been using Custom Rom's for a while. But this is usually to bring a phone up to the latest possible Android version well after the manufacturer has stopped updating a device . I have been using Nexus devices so typically this is 18 months after a model is first introduced. Bit of a sore point with me coming from iPhones which get supported for much longer period. but I digress.
In the case of the Moto G. I question whether it is beneficial ATM to install a custom ROM? I have tried a couple, but have been quite disappointed up till now with reliability and performance.
So for now I have stayed with the standard Moto G Rom. Then tweaked it a little by doing the following.
1. Unlocked the phone
2. Rooted using TWRP (couldn't get CWM to work right)
3. Eliminated the Unlocked warning screen at start up :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548530
4. Changed the 3G data to H, H+ format :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600654
5. Installed Qualcomm-optimized bionic and dalvic from here :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/4-4-4-4-x-qualcomm-optimized-dalvik-t2546120 (thanks @drfr )
6. Installed a new Faux123 Kernel, flcon_umts-faux123-kk-005u-signed.zip from here :- http://faux.romhost.me/falcon_umts/kk44/
7. From Play store installed the xposed installer
8. From Play Store added module Gravity box (KK)
9. From Play Store added module Ringer & Notification Volume
10. Installed the Apex launcher
11. From Play Store purchased Faux123 Kernel Enhancement Pro (couldn't find a free tool that worked!)
Result is a very stable ROM together with most of the little tweaks that I like to get from a Custom ROM. Plus everything works great. The current Antutu result is 19860.
So my general question, what is the advantage of using a Custom Rom, when for at the moment at least, the manufacturers ROM is fully up to date and with a few simple tweaks provides Custom Rom like appearance, together with great stability and performance?
As far as I know, the stock rom has a lot of optimizations for the Moto G hardware. For instance, its based on F2FS which is something the GPE Moto G does not have going for it.

That´s exactly the way I see things too. Played around with custom ROMs for a while and then came back to stock + all the enhancements you mentioned. Just a note to the point 5 of your list. Optimized dalvik and bionic are already included in stock ROMs.
I have this way of thinking too. So just going through the steps 1, 2, 3, 7, 8 and 10. My phone is excellent.

Thank you, I didn't know that, funny but I could swear that Antutu improved! I am still trying to decide if Point 6. Faux123 is really worth it. The 1.6gh/z over clocking is working and I am still getting two days of average use per charge. Can't decide either way really......
Same here, at this point, custom roms (non stock based) are non sense, since the stock is almost Aosp and updated as hell. Xposed is all you need.

Great antutu result. Mostly due to the overclock. CM based roms doesnt have working overclock yet.
Im far away from that 19860 antutu score, any tips? I installed faux kernel and optimizers from qualcomm and cant get even close to 18000.

True. But its for now and that is because this is a brand new phone also with multiple variants like 1031/2/3
Hence creating a kind of obstruction for a successful ROM dev
Furthermore you don't just dev a ROM to get an Android update.
Its for the different features that people are looking for.
You might wanna try xposed modules.
Hell l0tta options there. Not for now but then for future.
Also then small little tweaks from other phones can be ported to this one.
There are just countless things that you can customize once you are rooted.
I had a Galaxy Ace duos CDMA which had no custom ROM.
But once I got it rooted my phone was so much better.
I had an extended internal memory with my SD card.
The bloatware that covered the small little internal memory was completely removed.
And it was so much faster and Functional with those rooted apps.
If that small little phone could do some magic with rooting.
Then this is a beast.
Half the new functionality that we get on the updates are actually the features of apps that work on rooted phones.
Wifi hotspot for an instance.
Agreed that in the current scenario its really not so useful but rooting your phone is a gift to yourself

I am looking for a custom ROM for my Samsung Galaxy S II Plus (GT-I9105P) which is faster than the stock ROM.
I installed Liquidsmooth 3.0 and tested the speed and its working perfectly now. Its based on Android version 4.4.3. But the camera app is actually really bad; the pictures are always blurry. I guess something is wrong with the focus, because it works fine with the original 4.2.2 Samsung Camera App. I found out that I can't restore the app because Liquidsmooth (Andoid 4.4.3) doesn't support Touchwiz Apps.
Even the apps from the PlayStore are not as good as the old SamsungCamera App.
So here's my question: Is there a fast custom ROM (preferred a popular like LiquidSmooth) which is baised on 4.2.2? Or are there others who have also problems with blurry pictures in 4.4.3 and have a fix?
CWM 10.1.3 has a lot of bugs, like no vibration, so I don't want this ROM. LiquidSmooth 2.3 is baised on Andoird 4.2.2 but there is no Download Link for the SGS II Plus / doesn't supported? Or does the Phone model even matter?
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!!

But isn't cwm a Rom created for more personalizing and not for increasing speed? I am worried that it's still slow or is it the speed compared to liquidsmooth?
Lollipop ROM runs on ART runtime, it's much more effective than Dalvik-based.
So far 2 weeks of use no lag at all, back when I was using Paranoid Android 4.6 or CM11 M12, there were some lag sometimes.
Battery life is more awesome than before. In previous ROMs, I don't use GPS and ended up like 30% battery by the end of the day.
With Lollipop, I use GPS 24/7 and ended up 30% battery by the end of the day too.

There is liquid smooth 3.2 (4.4.4) fyi,. you could try the new google camera from the play store. There are other kitkat roms that are also excellent(sprit, axxion,PAC,PA) should you think Lolipop is too buggy, but you cannot installed touchwiz apps on a custom rom, regardless of android version.

Don't update! The battery life of the preinstalled stock ROM is a little better as is the case in almost all smartphones.

Yeah definitely update the phone. When I first got it the phone was very laggy compared to my m8 but with the update it's gotten better. Don't get me wrong, it still has its lags here and there but not nearly as much as before

You can root 5.1.1 but some roms aren't updated to 5.1.1 so you won't be able to flash them due to the new bootloader also once you go to 5.1.1 there is no going back to 5.0.2 due to the new bootloader so I would just use a 5.1.1 ROM unless that has WiFi issues for you then just update.
Hi guys,
Anyone on here running Marshmallow OK on their Z3 and using it as their daily driver? I can from a CM 12 official nightly build, and installed an unofficial CM 13 build by Infected_ , which I must say is running great. Gapps to a while to get running ok, but now they're the running fine.
Just to make people who don't already know aware, that there is currently no camera app working for Marshmallow yet, so you'll have to be able to live with that.
I am using Sony's concept software as a daily driver and I am completely satisfied with given performance and stability. Current release is 6.0.1 build number 3027.
No lags, no freezes, no reboots, no random app crashes... seems like a rock solid software.
what about battery life of MM compared to LP ?
The Infected_ build of CM13 Marshmallow that I'm running seems to have great battery life. Same as if not better than CM12 nightlies.
I was using Concept FW, too. I quitted using some days before Christmas because of too many missing essential features. Battery life is still ok, but for me stock stamina mode seems to make a better job than doze. And I hated the orange coloured status and navigation bar when being in battery safe mode...

I got my Moto G mid-October 2015 but I opted for the version with 1GB RAM because of budget constraints. At first it performed pretty well even while doing a bit of multitasking, but now I'm just having problems; excessive lag during the animations and loading apps, slow multitasking, apps closing frequently in the background, battery drain and etc. How do I rectify this? I have tried limiting the number of apps allowed to be on in the background, using Greenify, factory resetting and even installing custom ROMs.
This is kinda putting a damper on things for me. Any help would be appreciated ;3
i'm actually amazed with the performance i can pull out of my device.. try a lightweight rom with flashhhh's kernel
Or try to flash the original Stock Firmware again via Fasboot.
Another thing what i have seen at my Sons Mobile is the SD-Card was slowing down the hole Mobile.
Just put for testing your Sd-Card out and try again. If its so, the just save your Data of your SD-Card, format it and put it back to your Mobile.
Hi... Same problem here... And i've tested the sdcard and the results were about 33 mb/sec for reads and 16mb/sec for writes... any rom to recommend? Maybe CM 13.1 ? I've tried CM 12.1 but it does the same... slow like hell even some times it completely freezes....Also with every restart it starts optimizing just one app... all the time... with stock 5.1.1 , with stock 6.0, with cm 12.1..... any help or advice?
PS: I just use (and need) facebook, fb messenger, fb pages and whatsapp.
Thanks in advance!
I'm using a Sandisk Ultra 32gb card since I started soak testing MM when it first came out and have every app that will go to it moved. I've never had a freeze or any slowdown. The only problem I've ever had is sometimes on a reboot the moved apps are greyed out until I restart Nova launcher. That seems to happen only with the beta Nova I'm running so it may be Nova.

They are the stock of the stock (rom + kernel + user data + everything you modified except the unlocked status)
Don't forget to backup all your data

OTA will work if you are using official (from Motorola) releases.
Just flash the stock rom (some versions already has Android 6.0 available).

I do not use custom rom/kernel, I do use stock rom/kernel only (I did used custom kernel in the past, but my phone got slower)
Flash the stock rom to remove any customizations and get your device clean again.
when you said :
"Mine is 16gb but started to have similar issues (slow loads, some freezes). The solution was to stock rom & kernel and added my SD Card as internal storage (I can't explain why did it help either)."
I understood that you refer to the v1.0a , the .zip file in that link in "stock rom & kernel"..... Do you have the download link to the rom you are using?? Thanks
