I had to get a replacement note 5 recently due to my old ones battery being screwed along with some other issues, and I no longer have access to a computer to root my new one. Is there any working methods to achieve root without?

so i recently came across a used Infuse (at&t model) from a friend, and wanted to do my part on fixing it up from the way he had it.
that meaning of course, flashing a new version, rooting, the basic good stuff we all love to do.
to change to my plan from his, which he didn't have it running under a contract or anything, was slap my SIM card in, and tweaked the APN settings a bit
to work with my Straight Talk plan. it's worked flawlessly and the speeds are way better than what my modded A953 can push through.
as i plug it into my laptop, it reads it can't be recognized and will only charge. not a problem. i Google how to fix this and to try workarounds.
nothing seems to work, and i'm stuck at the rooting process. after rooting, i can workaround to actually flashing and whatnot.
-i've tried Odin and a few other similar programs listed, but need Mass Storage/Download Mode and actual connection to work properly.
-z4root and Gingerbreak, only lag and freeze up my device, causing it to reset/restart with no changes.
-tried using 5 other USB wires, all act the same way.
-won't be recognized by other PCs/laptops, not even my PS3.
-uninstalling and reinstalling the Samsung drivers didn't help.
i've been using it as-is with barely any issues, but the feel of being held back of great roms and goodies.. it's almost disappointing.
this is by far the best phone i've been able to get my hands on and i just want it to work 100%, my way.
so my question is this; are there any other ways to root this Infuse without having to buy a whole new device or USB port/piece for it?
kind of running low on funds due to real life issues and such, so i have close to nothing to spend.
any other root apk's i could try other than what was listed above? any help is greatly appreciated.
Try a dab of alcohol and toothpicks to clean the contacts in the phone. Then try a different 2 or 3 cables. Some cables don't contact correctly. Some don't have data capabilities. Depends on your cables. Also try pushing the cable up firmly or down firmly to ensure contact.
Don't panic till you have done all this.

Hello, all!
I've been an iPod Touch + Nokia flip-phone user for many years, and just last week I finally purchased an unlocked Motorola Moto G LTE (XT1045) to replace them both. So, since I'm new to the Android world, I have come to ask this question:
How long would you recommend I wait before rooting my device? There are some features that would REALLY like (moving entire apps to SD card (I was a bit dismayed to find that when moving all my apps to the SD card, it only saved a very, very small amount of storage space), as well as being able to prioritize memory usage for apps, Titanium backup, underclocking while phone is locked, etc.). I'm viewing this phone more like a very mobile computer than I did my iPod Touch I always carried, and as such I am expecting more of it.
The reason I ask is I am wondering how long it will take for good support to start showing up for custom ROMs and stuff. Since this is my first time rooting a device, I would like there to be a decent amount of documentation, and would also like the majority of the bugs worked out of anything involving rooting for this specific phone.
On a side note, does anyone know of a way to unlock the bootloader without going through Motorola's site? I've read that by going through there to get the unlock code, you are basically registering your phone as "not under warranty." So, if something that is clearly a manufacturing defect (like charging connector becoming loose or something like that) shows up in a month, I'd like to be able to un-root it to send it in.
Thanks in advance!

BUMP.
I got to thinking about it, and since I am actually going to be outside of the country for the next 10 months, so my warranty is pretty much useless anyway. Shipping it back would require removing the battery, which in turn would void the warranty.
So, at this point my only question is how long would you recommend to wait to root my phone in order for there to be good documentation, and good support for custom ROMs and stuff?
Thanks!

Alright, so here's the scenario: I have a Verizon Google Pixel that I have unlocked the bootloader, rooted and is currently on Android 7.1.1. I recently lost the ability to have it quick charge even though when the original charger is connected it says "charging rapidly". I have tried 5 different chargers and use Ampere on my phone to test the charger and my roomate has a Pixel with the same app and he gets way higher results than I do. I'm just getting regular USB speed, not Qualcomm 2.0 speed.
Anyway, I don't have a home ISP, I have the original $20 unlimited data plan and went through this procedure to get hotspot to work without checking with Verizon so I get it free:
1.) androiding.how/unlock-bootloader-verizon-pixel-and-pixel-xl/
2.) androiding.how/google-pixel-xl-twrp-recovery/
3.) androiding.how/root-pixel-xl-magisk/
4.) androiding.how/enable-wifi-hotspot-tethering-pixel-and-pixel-xl-verizon-sprint-others/
So, I've tried rebooting etc and can't come up with a solution to fix it. I have an extended warranty on my phone, through Verizon, and can get a new phone. I am wondering if I get the new phone if I can unlock the bootloader and if the above procedure will work or if there are any other methods to do so cause having hotspot, free, is critically important to me.
I would just prefer to fix the quick charging on my phone, but otherwise I want to know if the above process will work for a new Verizon Pixel, possibly already loaded with 8.1.
Thanks for any help, I appreciate it.
Hey there,
I have a Pixel 1 rooted with Nougat (7.1.2). The phone is playing tricks lately (shuts down after random activities for no reason even when the battery is more than half full), so figured it might help to use a more updated version.
Couldn't find a full guide on how to root Pie on a Pixel. The only guides I saw were for Pixel XL and Pixel C, where it said the
Any idea where I can find one or maybe it's not going to help at all with the issue I'm having?
Thanks in advance.
I'm starting to get the same on my pixel running stock android 10, I get the occasional reboot while charging or while taking a photo? Probably a battery or hardware issue more than a software issue.
Root wise just check the main magisk thread for how to root, can either flash via twrp or you can root via magisk manager with a modified boot.img.
Good luck
On my end it doesn't even reboot. Just shuts down and unless I connect it to a charger, it won't load up (just shut down right after boot).
So indeed sounds like hardware/battery.
Is there a chance an updated OS will fix that or I'm wasting my time and best would be to get a new battery or a new phone?
It depends on the device, Ive changed batteries on a few before with mixed success tbh. I won't be changing the battery in my pixel as it's a right pig to change apparently so I'll get another device once it's dead.
I used to enjoy an HTC 4G LTE rooted and unlocked, but that needed to be replaced
due to random restarts and display problems. I'm still using it to play a few games
not available to current Android models, while my working device is, in fact,
a Samsung A71 5G. (the old one has been transferred to a newer display,
which allows me to play the games as I chill out in my car before going in to work.)
So my question is this: Is there any way to get past the reduced-bandwidth limit of this device
for tethering without resorting to an expensive root procedure? I was flush a year or two ago when I
took delivery on the phone, but I can't justify the expense now for gaining full root, especially
when my wife and I are making less than we did then.
Is there anything out there for me?
