Recover lost data - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

(phone: Moto G 3rd gen, 5.1.1)
Hello,
I've been looking to recover lost data from wechat (images) for the past few days, and am still looking for a decent application/way to do this.
For example "Dr. Fone" and variants all allow you to select the same kind of stuff, but they only scan some specific folders. I would need to scan the whole internal memory.
Next step was to find out how to access the internal memory as a USB mass storage device, but that doesn't seem to work in my Android OS.
Interestingly enough "Dr. Fone" did some kind of quick-root (non destructive root) and was running a simple program on the phone itself for scanning.
I assume they rooted because the windows application said so and because from what I gathered is that Google now uses MTP by default because of a host of difficulties to simultaneous access files/partitions if you're using USB instead of MTP.
Furthermore these wechat images are located under /tencent/micromsg/WeChat, so I don't know if they are taking into account when scanning the phone.
What I'm looking for is an application like Recuva, but than for MTP devices. From what I gather is that this is not possible due to MTP.
So the next question would be: how do I gain temporary root on my device so I can for example install a USBMS enabler? After that I can use Recuva to go through it.
Or another question would be what application allows me to not only select the default categories, but just give me a folder structure and/or list of files (preferably with a filetime and a preview)?
Thanks!

No way to root it without unlocking the bootloader, and unlocking the bootloader = wipe.

No unlocked bootloader means no root, temporary or not... File recovery on a non-rooted device is nearly impossible since mass storage went away and MTP is the only real external access to the storage.

[Q] Still no access to internal phone via usb

Hi all,
To start with, I'm in India and tried to unlock my Verizon S3.. at first, got it rooted, tried to unlock, didn't work and it caused a bunch of connection problems, etc. with the phone, so I did a factory reset, thinking it would wipe the problems I was having.
Lost some files I forgot were on my internal memory I needed, so I wanted to do a file recovery. During this process, I re-downloaded the drivers for the S3 I needed and then found that my phone would connect, but wouldn't connect as a driver and only as a media source. So the recovery software can't find the device to inspect. Even when I debugged, it would only register as a bootloader and wouldn't recognize it as anything more.
I'm trying to figure out what other steps I need to take to either remove something that I tampered with before the factory reset, or if I need to install something new to configure my device to register as a driver, or do something else I can't figure out?
And I'm still trying to recover those files from before the factory reset too.
Anyone have any suggestions? I can explain in more detail if needed.
Thanks for all the help!
Are you trying to recover personal files that were wiped?

Trying to get my computer to register the phone as a driver so then I will be able to recover the files.

You may be out of luck. When google went to Android 4.x, they switched to the MTP protocol which mounts the phone to the computer as a media device, rather than a mass storage device (as in previous versions of Android). As far as I can tell, devs have only been able to figure out how to get the external SD card to be seen as mass storage (and that's built into a rom, not a stand alone mod, I believe).
Is there any file recovery software/app available for Android that you can install directly on the phone, rather than needing to run it from a computer?
Well, that's not a good sign. But I will check into the direct software to the phone and let you know I find anything.
Thanks for the tip!

Recovering Deleted files with unrooted unlocked devices [Android 6.0] [2 Questions]

Hello every one,
I have a complicated situation with deleted files (photos and videos) recovery,
Phone : Nexus 5
Android: M (6.0) BN: (MRA58N)
Root/unlock: Unrooted and Unlocked
Some one has deleted all the files in the camera folder in the gallery, i want to restore these deleted files. After hours of digging the internet, i found a lot of applications that doesn't work (almost all of it either require root or require USB Mass storage), and as you know we are only able to connect to the PC using MTP protocol.
Rooting the device requires unlocking it which will cause the whole phone to be wiped.
I have two questions:
1) Is there any (REAL) way to recover the deleted files (Images and videos) with the current circumstances (Unrooted, Unlocked, MTP Connection) ?
2) If the answer of question 1 is NO, if i unlocked (and for sure wiped) the phone then rooted it, can i still have the ability to recover these files, i mean how badly the wipping process will affect the internal phone storage?
I really appreciate your help in advance.
Best regards,

phones uses emmc nand cards, they are basicly ssds, no mechanical parts, instant access time, etc... . because of that, when a file is deleted, its actually deleted, not just "masked".
and if you unlock, you delete all userdata, apps, files, etc, no way of recovering. Altought on early n4s bootloader the wipe was glitched(you could restore your data), on the n5 it fully wipes
Tip: next time you could use google´s free auto backup(google photos)

Its Unfortunate to hear that , i hoped there will be a small chance to recover the deleted data after wiping the phone and rooting it.
I Would like to hear if there is any other options.
Best thanks @opssemnik
Is the same true for HTC One M8?

The original questioner had a Nexus.
Does your answer also apply to HTC One M8?
Thanks.

i don´t know about the bootloader unlock part wiping the data on the M8 (since those were never sold here in Brazil) however the rest still applies. on HDDs and other mechanical drives, the deletation process is just removing the file from the index on the drive, so it cant find anymore, thats due to mechanical drives having fragmentation, not instant access times and other things(such as lower read/write speeds, bad sectors, etc). since those dont apply to solid state devices, such as ssds or emmcs, every file operation is permanent

Recover internal storage data (HTC One a9)

Hello everyone, this is my first post here so I'll try to explain my problem correctly.
I had an issue moving data from internal storage to SD, I tried moving it using the mobile app and not saving a backup with the computer... so it seems that I've lost all that data.
I just wanted to recover my pictures and I've read and tryid many guides.
First of all I started rooting my device, with it rooted I installed some apps like "undeleter" but they didnt work.
Other times I have used a software called Recuva for these purposes but I can not select de Internal Storage device... it seems that I need to put my device in MSC mode but I have tried all the USB options and any of them worked (yes, I used usb debbuging).
¿Could you show me how to be sure that I work with MSC mode on my HTC One a9?
Which guide do you recommend me to follow in order to try recovering my files?
Any free/open-source platform that I could use?

su command to stop Android from writing to USB stick? Android 9, rooted

Hello. This is a general Android 9 question (I think) but the device is a NinkBox TV box running Pie, Rock 3318 chip, 4GB/64GB, rooted, SU and developer options enabled.
I use it for watching files off a stick mainly, but when I install apps to the system, Android writes temp files to the USB stick instead of using its own 56GB of internal storage. I want it to use internal storage for everything, even temp files and folders, and not the stick. That is my preference.
I do not want to make the stick read-only in Windows because *I* have to write to it to put new files on, etc... I just don't want Android using it.
Is there any su command (or any other method) that will tell Android to ALWAYS use USB storage as read-only (or conversely to ONLY use internal storage for all write actions)? I do not know Android commands so if this is possible I will kindly need the steps spelled out. Thanks for reading...

Question question about decryption/encryption and twrp storage

Hi, I am trying but finding it confusing about these things. For me, I just end up following the guides but not really understanding what these ff mean. Can someone explain in an easy way? New to custom roms and I want to learn more.
1. What does it mean if phone is encrypted or decrypted, and how do they affect the ammount of roms we can flash (i want to try flashing more than 1 rom at a time)
2. I heard from some youtube guides, in some devices that when in twrp mode that the storage cannot be accessed via PC (no way to transfer rom files except for OTG/microSD) but others claim they can access the internal storage 'via PC' (so they can move the ROM files into the root folder of the phone's storage)
