Home key programmable? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I got google app (whatever that is) disabled so that fixes the problem of google starting when I hold down the home key. Is there any way to program it to something else? Now it does nothing for a long press. That's still better than bringing up google-anything but I would like to be able to assign some function to the key.

Thanks. I didn't find that in the settings but then I realized maybe you meant there is an app for it?
Anyway I fixed it in Nova Launcher.

Slide Screen 2.0 Beta

Thought this was not in dev any more but it looks like they are still working on it and have released a new beta with Google Voice support. Looks pretty sweet!

so, is this some kind of home replacement??

Yep. Its a home screen replacement that gives youa quick glance of most important stuff on one screen. Pretty cool idea.
Used it for a good hour...it's ok...

Yea the beat has no way to launch apps so I uninstalled it. You have to hit the hm key to leave SlideMe and go back ou tto the reg home scree. The non beta app you dont have to do that.

you can set it as a home replacement, so a launcher....or you can just use it as a normal app
if you set as a launcher then it will have it's own app drawer
I think its brill, could do with a K9 plug in though

I noticed that when trying it out. It was quite disheartening since I REALLY love the app and enjoy being able to modify which items are where on the screen layout, but without an app drawer, it's kinda.... useless.
Update: Looks like Beta 2 has been released, and app drawer functionality has made it's way back in.
Horray for the updated features as well as being able to use it as my launcher replacement!
I'm not sure if this is a bug, so I might file it as a feature request on the bug reporting page - Pressing the "Home" button on an HTC EVO doesn't bring you back to the main launcher page, instead leaves you either in an app drawer view, or in a settings menu. To get back to the launcher, you need to press the "Back" button several times.

I also find this frustrating, but overall the launcher is excellent.
I do suffer with FC's at times which just seem to not stop, but I'm overlooking these while in beta stage.

I've posted a bug report about the home button and got a response. Hopefully they end up getting a fix out for it relatively soon.
I think some of the FC's you might be getting are from the Android version you're running. You have a Sony X10? Aren't you running 1.6? I'll have to look further, but I think that the app is compatible with Eclair or above currently.
Great home replacement app! I do have some pet peeves though:
- As others have said, you cannot return to your old homescreen even when pressing the Home key several times. It would be nice for it to revert to a previous home launcher (e.g. ADW, Launcherpro) unless prompted again.
- Is it possible to make use of K9 Mail instead of GMail for the email client? A plugin of some sort would be mighty fine.
Other than that, this might be my next favorite app for Android.

The X10 has been given the 2.1 update, so thats cool.
It turns out the FC's i was getting was due to a google voice beta i had installed, so removed that and its been fine since!

If you enter the App Drawer and press Menu -> Home Settings -> Home Switching -> Toggle "Switch Homes"
I think this is what you are referring to? This should allow you to use the Home button to toggle between SS and your main launcher.
EDIT: Beta 3 was released. http://gsfn.us/t/1yjjb
Fixes "Home" button while using SS as primary launcher. I <3 the devs of this app, they REALLY listen!
Has anyone received the version expired warning? the error asks the user to look on the forums for a new beta but I can't find any.

UPDATE: Just uninstall and reinstall beta 3. Works fine.

[Q] Ok Google hot word disabled?

Did Verizon disable this for some reason? Or did HTC? When I open the Google Search app (where you can usually say "Ok Google" to jump into voice commands), the settings say it's enabled, however it doesn't say "ok google" next to the microphone icon in the search bar, like it usually does
It's especially weird because I vaguely remember using the Ok Google a few days after I got it, but I could be mistaken (quite often this is the case)
No matter how loud I've screamed at it, it's not working. Anybody else having this?
Lol. The m8 isn't "always listening"
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
Ok Google works with this phone. There is a setting that enables hot word detection in Google now, check there.

I know it's not always listening. However you usually can say OK Google from the Google now app to go to voice commands
And I already have it on in the settings, but it's not working.
Oh and also when I installed the Google now launcher to see if it would work on the home screen there, it didn't.

Is your app out of date perhaps? It works fine for me, but it is limited to the Google Now app. I can't do it on the homescreen, but it works perfectly fine from the Google Now app (swipe up from home).
If you are totally up to date, maybe try going with a factory reset.

actually, this is how it works for me as well. I was hoping to get it from the home screen but swiping up is ok...not totally hands free but close.

If you want it on the homescreen, you'll have to sideload the Google Now Launcher APK and use that instead of BlinkFeed. You do lose access to HTC's widgets, but other than that there's not much difference.
If you want to do that, here's the XDA thread to get the APK:

Now Launcher's folders are a white circle background with the "stack" icon effect. You can simulate this in Nova and see how you like it before installing.
Nova Settings > Folders > Background > White Circle
Nova Settings > Folders > Style > Stack

Shortcut for clearing app data

Hey folks,
I'd like to create any kind of shortcut or automation, that allows me to clear a specific app's data with just a single click. I'm tired of navigating to the settings menu for doing so. I've already searched (google) for some valid solution, but was unable to find some satisfacting answer...
P.S. already tried different automation apps, which provide over 200 pretty useless different functions. All crap as I only need a shortcut for "clearing app data".
Any working solutions are highly appreciated.
with nova launcher.just longpress app's icon and there is a button that leads u to app info.

Nice to know, but not what I'm looking for. At the moment the best solution is to have the app info in recents. But thats still:
1. click recents
2. click select tab in recents
3. click delete app data
4. click confirm
5. click home button
That is simply too much. Its possible doing so using ADB command, but its not working without a pc.
I'd like to have it with a single click from home screen. I'm willed to buy any needed apps.

Terminal Shortcut Pro lets you add scripts as widgets on homescreen! Thats exactly what you're looking for right?
It needs root though.
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
pm clear your.app.name

How to remove recent apps from app drawer?

I've got a pixel 4a running Android 12, and I use the pixel launcher, however I am frustrated by the five recent apps at the top of the app drawer, and I can't find any way to remove it. Does anyone here know how?
(Also sorry if this isn't the right place to post this kind of question, but it's my first time posting on here)
How to close all recent apps in new pixel launcher?
Is there no longer a close all option for recents? Am i missing? thanks,
