This isn't a bug. Google have mandated by CTS the permissions around external storage be tighter. Now there are only specific circumstances where an application can write to the external storage, like stock camera apps etc.

Thanks for clarifying that. I thought it was a bug in the built, as the GE kitkat rom had the same restriction on SGS4. I think this is a very crappy move from Google. Now, in order to store my podcasts on the sd card I have to root my phone, which conveniently voids my warranty. Freaking corporations and their restricting policies!

it's not a crappy move...
it's an additional permission that was added. Specific apps need an update to be able to write again to the SD Card. It's not something impossible... developers need to do their job updating what they already have in place.

Not possible to downgrade Mate L09 from B324 Lollipop to KitKat 4.4.2 ??

Hi guys!
Iv'e spend countless hours trying to find a solution.
I'm currently running Lollipop B324 version, and i'm not happy with it at all.
I would like to go back to 4.4.2 and I see many people reply in other threads that they downgrade, but I can't, for the life of me, find out HOW they did it.
I did find a guide on page 57 on Lollipop thread, but turns out it's for the TL10.
*edit*
I see people talking about the b327 which should fix alot of the bugs, but I also read that it doesn't support LTE, so not interested in that version.
Anyone out there who can help me out ?
First flash the B300 transition rom then you flash your preferred KitKat rom, like B137SP03 for example.
In my honest opinion you should at least give the new Lollipop a try, if the LTE is all that holds you back then try it first, I sincerely doubt Huawei would release a rom that half baked that it won't support LTE.
After flashing B300, it is recommended to flash B127 then update to b137sp03.

Thanks alot guys. Was really doing my head in, because I kept finding guides for TL10. I'll give 327 a try, since I have the rollback ready anyways. THANKS!!

I recommend you not to flash B327...it has nothing more comparing with B324... it has no 4G and no huawei swype keyboard.

Great news about 327, downloading it right now, and will give it a try Thanks alot jfer671
Ok, so I updated with the version you linked to. My phone does connect to 4G, but in the options, I can't select it. Not a big deal, as the phone is already on 4G, but weird.
Still need to do some more testing, like the facebook notifications, if they work now, battery life, speed/lag of the phone.
Thanks again!
A little update on the 327 build.
The sim lock bug seems to be fixed. Phone seems to run smooth, but does get a bit sluggish from time to time. Facebook notifications are still bugged, doesn't open the Facebook app. Sms bug still there.
Still contemplating going back to KitKat.
Right, so a quick update.
Sim lock bug isn't fixed in 327. Also the sms bug got worse yesterday, so now I flashed back to KitKat. Worked like a charm, so thanks again for your help!

Can I remove EMUI on the Honor 8?

So I am looking to get a honor 8, but there is one thing that I am not so sure about, EMUI. So first of all, what are your thoughts on it, is it just a re skin of stock android or are there limitations/advantages. I am coming from IOS, and like the look of it, which i know emui is somewhat similar looking. Can I remove EMUI and go with a more stock version of android? If not what are some things I should do to get around the limitations of it? Also, can update to Nougat? Thanks!
There are more number of inbuilt features in EMUI than stock ROM. Some of the apps are inbuilt with the it. Stock ROM doesn't have every utility app that needs in day to day life like file manager, call recorder. We can download the app in play store in it. EMUI has these apps built with itself. So no need to download external app.
Limitations for EMUI is the RAM management. Im not sure about Honor 8, but RAM management is major issue in EMUI in all other models. It might be fixed soon with the upcoming updates also.
Regarding the update, you will get update till Android O for sure. But the time taken to get the update will be more than that of stock android devices. So don't worry about updates if you have the patience for it.
As of now you can't remove EMUI , as custom ROM is not available.

No other custom ROM available yet, the answer is NO for now...
But u can change Launcher if u dont like EMUI style.

Removal of the current EMUI will void the warranty. Please be aware of this and makes changes to your device at your own digression. (NS)
Alright thanks everyone for your reply, ill just probably customize the ui with different launcher and stuff and I should be fine with it.

It's really not bad. Add pixel launcher and theme by venom007 and you'll be good to go. I've been happy with it as an Android purist waiting for the pixel phone launch.

From what I am reading on this forum, it does not seem so.
There is a thread mentioning that many developers already tried and left their projects because of the difficulties.
One can always hope but am skeptical myself.

We will still get many modded custom Roms but as for custom Roms like CyanogenMod etc, it appears that it's a monumental task because of honor 8 being a Kirin device.
I don't understand the actual nuances, just stating what I usually read.

I forked the P9 lite repo for CM13.
The P9 development is still stuck on the telephony interface, but at least it's a start.

the problem is i can't get into the system folder without root, with any other phone i had before it was no problem to get in there without root and copy things from there but the mate 9 doesn't allows it. ?
If you download a full ROM I imagine you could get them all from there.

How to Set 4G LTE Mode Only

Hi guys, does anyone know how to set this phone Honour 6x to 4G LTE Mode Only. Thanks buddy, but unfortunately, the message I get is "device not compatible" I have tried so many other apps like those with no success. I don't know if there is a root method.
I found this thread
[APP][5.0+][ROOT] Toggle Network Type 5.0 (2G, 3G, LTE) (xda-exclusive free version) but it requires root. I currently have no root on my phone, and I'd really hate to root it just for that functionality and it fails to work. Has someone here tried or could try it on his or her Honour 6X. Thank you in advance.

I am using this widget sucessfully on my rooted Honor 6X. You have to enable "Show all network types" to allow switching to "LTE only"
. Works as it should. I cannot make calls because I cannot use VoLTE over here, but fast 4G internet without falling back to 2G/3G.

Did already but no changes post reboot.
Added "12" and got "3g,4g" but entering 11 does nothing
Solution
Hi,
In Settings Database Editor, find the line "hw_add_4g_only".
Change this to "250;[yourMCC]" (in my case "250;262" for Germany) and reboot.
List of MCCs: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_country_code
This worked for my honor 7x al-10 band with al-21 rom
