Unlock screen behavior with fingerprint - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

Phone is on latest 6.01. I setup fingerprint to unlock and a backup password as required. Sometimes, it will ask for password instead of fingerprint to unlock. Another issue is sometimes it asks you to swipe up before you enter the password.
Usually right after I turn the screen on, I'm able to enter the password or fingerprint unlock on previous versions. Is this a bug or can this behavior be disabled? I just want to unlock with fingerprint in one step, makes no sense to have to swipe first then enter a password.

There is no phone lock feature. But you can lock the simcard!!
since you already know about the screenlock, what more could you need a lock for???
Password Lock
so you want a password lock when you open your phone? Follow these steps:
Open Settings
Location and Security
Change screen lock
if you would like to put a password with words and numbers in it, select Password. If you want just 4 numbers as your password, select PIN.
Put in your password and then put it in a second time to confirm.
Well done! You now have a passworded phone
you just repeated what he said, because he said he knows about the screen lock. I'm still confused why he needs a bootup password in addition to a screen lock.

Can't unlock with Fingerprint reader when..

I get a notification. Swipe notification, still no joy.Have to enter PIN. Once in,it locks and unlocks as it should, but as soon as I get any notification on Lock Screen the same problem occurs

Fingerprint reader unlock with no fingerprint set up?

So I like that the fingerprint reader can be used to turn on and unlock the phone but it only works if you have a fingerprint and pin/password set up. I have my phone set to swipe to unlock, which makes the fingerprint reader useless. Is there a way to get it to turn on and unlock the phone but not actually have a pin and fingerprint set up? (So anybody's finger would turn on and unlock the phone, basically turning the reader into a button)

The answer is no because that would defeat the purpose of its intended use. I guess I can see where you're coming from. However, no phone maker will ever accommodate that, especially when Apple is touting the security of its iPhone in the case vs the FBI. In fact, fingerprints aren't very secured. That's why every phone forces you to link fingerprints with PIN codes.

Lock screen security issue

Hi all,
somebody can me explain why can I wake up sometimes the phone at lock screen without any adjusted security mode?
I mean sometimes if I push the ON button and comes up the lock screen, then I scroll up the screen, the phone is suddenly logged in, I see the home screen. Although I removed before the face unlock mode, or adjusted the pattern mode and the fingerprint mode. Example sometimes if the face unlock mode is on, and my friend get my phone, he can go to the home screen also without any security control, just with the swipe up at lock screen.
I tried to remove the face unlock mode, and turn on just the PIN instead of pattern, but it's no matter.
But sometimes the security identifications comes up (pattern or PIN).
Why does this work so?
Solved.
Can be delete the thread.
The problem was in the smart lock?

Password on an unlocked phone?

Stock Android One - 9 (MiA1)
So I had a password on my phone and a fingerprint lock. I used the fingerprint lock to unlock the phone and on restart it would ask me the password. All was good.
At some point I removed the screen lock altogether. I don't have a screen lock now and I'm able to enter the phone without prompt just fine even on boot,
Except, now I want to enable the screen lock again and it asks me to re-enter the password. Now the old password doesn't work and I could swear I didn't really touch it when removing the screen lock.
I'm able to do everything on my phone, except setup a screen lock. What is up here? And how do I setup a screen lock now or reset the password?
Not sure of the fix.
I got locked out of a PC bios like that ie the password spontaneously became corrupted.
I set passwords for accounts only, not devices and this illustrates why.
It may indicate a hardware failure or maybe just a firmware glitch. See if there's a default password for that model... a service center may be able to help.
