With a nexus one or even another android phone like motorola milestone, in order to start using it once I insert my tmobile sim, do you have to have a data plan to activate the phone and start using it? If you do have to activate it by signing in to google account can you use a wifi connecction?
I say this because I once bought a white google G1 phone at a thrift store and after doing a hard reset of the phone, it wouldnt get past the setup wizard part where you ahve to sign in to a google account but it wanted to go through the data connection rather lettign you choose a wifi instead.
Since I'm not using a Samsung phone I am unable to access the samsung app store.
My question is if I borrow a Samsung s4 from a friend and connected it and download the apps, will the apps work and stay on my watch?
No, the phone resets itself, or restores a backup when connecting to a new/different device.
I'm a crackflasher and frequently am reinstalling my phone.
Do the cards listed in Samsung Pay on the watch stay on the watch when re-installing the phone, or do they get erased when the watch syncs with the phone for the first time?
The reason I ask is because when using Android Pay on my phone, if I reinstall the ROM without removing the card from Android Pay first, my banks see it as having it installed on multiple devices. AMEX for example only lets you have the card setup on 3(I think) devices.
Thanks for the info!

They get erased. I've done it twice. I setup my Gear S3 on my Note 2 perfectly, complete with Samsung Pay. I even got a letter from my bank saying my credit card has a "digital account number" associated with it using Samsung Pay. Then I had to reflash the ROM (because I messed it up trying to fix my Group MMS trying to install different versions of messenger apk). When re-registering the Gear S3 with my newly flashed Note 2, the Gear S3 had to do a "soft-reboot". I had to setup Samsung Pay again (enter the credit card number, sign your signature my Note 2, etc.). I got another letter from my bank saying my credit card has a new "digital account number" (which is different from the first one which no longer works). Everything works again.
EDIT *** Whether the first one is still considered "active' in the eyes of my bank, I don't know.

2 Questions, did you logged into the same Samsung account for gear manager after the flashing and did you logged in to your Samsung account before starting the pairing process. As far as I know, watch should not reset itself as long as you are pairing with the same phone and user account.

Hmm...I can't remember whether I'm signed into my phone using my Samsung account when I tried to reconnect the Gear S3 on a newly flashed ROM. I wish I remembered exactly what I did and when I did it. Sorry
I was thinking of using Titanium Backup to backup and restore all the Samsung Gear apps. This may remedy the card erasing solution.

If you have the LTE S3, you can pair it with a cheap phone dedicated solely to that task. It doesn't need a SIM, only a WiFi network. Plus a service like Digits, Google Voice, or NumberSync.

Just a follow up, i just installed nougat update to my s6 edge with wiping data, i logged in to my samsung account and tried pairing phone with gear without resetting the gear, bluetooth pairing worked but as soon as i open gear manager it light reset the gear. After reset it restore all my gear data tho, except settings and widget orders.
I still can't remember whether I was logged into my Samsung account when I paired. It did pair after a light reset but Samsung Pay info was gone and I had to re-register my credit card again.
Lol, I had to redo my cards just after taking the pin code off.

So, having the PIN removed, does it just go directly to Samsung Pay without asking for a PIN when you long press the Back button?

With my pin removed. I could no longer use Samsung pay. It basically deleted everything pay information wise to my watch. I redid a pin code. And basically started from scratch again. The bank even sent me a new letter about joining Samsung pay.

So i have been scouring the forums looking for a solution to my current problem.
Currently, I can only access the galaxy store through the Samsung Gear app, I do not have a "Galaxy Apps" on my note 4 anymore (i believe i had it removed with a program).
I do not have a Samsung account registered with my Note 4, nor can I add 1, everytime I attempt to log in for Samsung pay, or Samsung +, or any sort of samsung app, it will just flash the screen and do nothing.
If I attempt to download and install the Galaxy Apps APK, I get a generic error stating install failed.
If I attempt to install apps from the Galaxy App store through the Samsung gear app link, the apps go into "loading" then stop and do nothing.
At this point I think I need to do a factory reset on my Note 4, but Im hoping to avoid this, anyone know of any fixes?
(btw i have a AT&T Note 4, that cannot be rooted at this point in time..)
Moving from an AT&T S7 Edge to an AT&T S8+, there seem to be transfer-software choices from AT&T, Google, and Samsung. With Samsung, data can be restored from the cloud, from a PC-stored backup, or directly from the old phone via a USB cable.
Which of these methods is most comprehensive? If combined, do they conflict or complement each other (and if the latter, in which order?)? Do any of them transfer the TouchWiz home screen layout? And is there any way to transfer SecureFolder content?
When I formatted my Note 4, I had everything set to auto backup in google. So when I rebooted the phone, I logged into my google acct, everything came back. I am hoping it works like this on my S8+ I ordered it yesterday.
I used Titanium when I had a rooted phone. Last time around I depended on Google for backup/restore and that worked satisfactorily also. This time I may try Smartswitch (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/smart-switch). Smartswitch is supposed to transfer your settings as well.
I'm very prudent - I'll backup key files to my PC, backup my SMS using an app, and I create a list (also using an app tracker) of all the apps I am using on my phone. I always have 2 or more ways back to a working phone before I start wiping.....
Samsung SmartSwitch works

I think it's boring to use the lazy way. So i just do it manually
Awesome, never heard of smart switch. Downloading now, does it also transfer Wifi passwords like titanium does?

I used it 2 times and it did...
One time from an S4 -> S7 and everything came over.
start fresh. Most times using this kind of stuff, smart switch etc, results in rogue apps that just demolish battery life.
