Disable Gmail account in Gmail app? - Android General

My Google account has a spare Gmail account associated with it that I don't want to appear in the Gmail app. I use the Gmail app with other, non-Gmail email accounts that I have.
Is there any way to disable the Gmail account from appearing at all in the Gmail app (and Calendar app, for that matter)? Simply telling Android not to sync the Gmail portion of my Google account isn't enough to do anything.

Froyo Calendar/Accounts Functionality

This is probably a dumb question, but is there any possibility to give Eclair the ability to sync multiple Google Apps calendars? It is limited to calendars from only 1 Google Apps account, but from what I've read, that limitation was addressed in Froyo.
Thanks in advance.
Try sharing your Google calendars with your master account and give it full permissions.
Yeah, I know that there are some workarounds (like that one), but the non-main account is my business account and the calendar isn't shareable with accounts outside the company.
Edit: Thank you, though, for the response!
The one "workaround" I have in place is that I setup an "Email" account with my google credentials using m.google.com as the server, then set it to never push mail, just sync my calendar, it's a google apps account and it works.
Sorry if I am being dense, can you elaborate/clarify?
If I add any other account to the Accounts area of Settings via the Google option, it will not provide me with the ability to sync a calendar (because my primary is a Google Apps account). If I add my account via the Corporate option, it allows creation of the account, but the calendar doesn't show up in the Calendar app.
I use the Corporate email setting, using "username"@********.***, you can just as easily use a gmail address [email protected] as an example, once the settings appear for the domain\username, wipe out what's automatically placed there and instead enter [email protected] or whatever your FULL gmail/google apps email address you wish to use, enter your password and then for the Exchange Server enter m.google.com also make sure Use SSL is enabled. Once completed I uncheck syncing of contacts as I already have the same account set up in the GMail app, I set it ti NEVER push mail, no notifications, and to sync calendar, the span amount shouldn't matter. I have had no problem getting it to show up in my list of calendars and to sync accordingly.
That's great, it works! Sadly it doesn't bring in all of your calendars, just the "primary" calendar for that account... but that is a huge improvement over the normal situation.
Thanks a lot for that tip, really appreciated.

Why cant I give an account name to my gmail account in the gmail app?

It allows me to name any other account (outlook, yahoo, etc) but not my gmail account. Does this feature not exist?

Setup gMail account as IMAP on gMail app?

Hi, this seems like a stupid question but I can't make sense of it..... old age! I have use a third party email app (on phones and tablets) for the last decade or so but it is antiquated and there are some things I really don't like. I thought I'd give Google's gMail app a try with a new tablet and I really like it except for 1x fatal flaw (dealbreaker), it forces conversation view for all gMail based accounts. I hate conversation view and regularly miss correspondence when it's on. There's a box in settings to turn it off but it does nothing if your email server is gMail.
I have read that it is possible to setup the gMail app to use IMAP to access my gMail server but I can't see any setting to do it. I am familiar with IMAP settings, etc. but the gMail app appears to just grab my Google credentials and automatically access my gMail account. Do I have to delete my entire Google account (not just account in gMail app) and then recreate it in order to set it up as IMAP?

need a efficient and secure email app

can any one suggest me a email app where i can add gmail accounts and get notifications, reply to mails etc without adding the account to my phone/syncing my phone. every mail app i tried asks me to add the account to the android system which is leading to syncing of my personal information to that gmail account.

Google Account Syncs Contacts, Despite Being Disabled

I can't have my own email servers, because Google considers anything not from gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc to be spam. So I use a gmail account and need to have a google account in my phone. I use Nextcloud and DAVx5 to sync some files and contacts, so I disabled the google account's contact sync.
Since I imported my contacts into Nextcloud/DAVx5, I deleted the google versions of said contacts. However, despite google contacts sync being disabled, this deleted all my contacts over at gmail and contacts.google.com.
Is there a way to positively DISABLE contacts sync with my google account?
ps. Notice how I didn't bother to post this at Google support?
