FingerPrint Gestures??? - General Questions and Answers

Anyone with Honor or Huawei phones would know how fingerprint sensor can be used to Show Notifications, Recent Apps and Hit Back all by performing simple Gestures on Fingerprint Sensor. So far I haven't seen this functionality on any Rom or any other phone currently in market. I could be wrong though!
I'm not a developer but i miss this feature a lot, Maybe someone with better experience could implement this feature in their respective Roms or maybe a future Xposed Module on this concept would be great.
Make fingerprint sensor cool again!! This shows that it can be used to do more that just unlocking your phone!
Hope to see it soon. :good:

[guide] ( need root) how to use fingerprint button as home, back and recents button.

If you want to use the fingerprint sensor as capacitive button and remove the on screen buttons, here are how to do it. TESTED ON XT 1640 (BRAZIL VERSION)
First you need to root and install TWRP recovery. take a look on the other threads for it.
Install the EX Kernel from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/kernel-elementalx-g4-0-01-t3424836) [ READ THIS THREAD FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT COMPATIBILITY]
If everything works fine, this kernel makes you fingerprint work as home button, but to have others functions, intall this app ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-button-mapper-customize-hardware-t3361340)
Now you can remapp as your wish.
TO REMOVE THE ON SCREEN BUTTONS:
Use any build.prop editor and just add this line ( qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 )
post your screenshots if you enjoy it.
thanks to flar2 for the kernel and app.

Good to see some customizations coming along. I'm not a dev at all but I don't understand with android being custom sourced why everything is so hard to do. Its like something like this to happen requires a kernel app and than a download of another app to work with that app. Than only some things can be changed and unlock functions can't. It just reminds from 2009 and up having Activator app in the jailbreak world 7 years ago I could change my home button to do whatever along with gestures or anything. I know Apple isn't open sourced out of the box but when those restrictions are opened up they are 100% in function. Sadly Apple has more than doubled their prices since I was owning 2009-2011 phones so I've been in the android world for 4 years now. It just hurts me that the technology these days in 2016 we can't have a operating system as simple to tweak as a user but considered open sourced.

Removing the on screen buttons method is not working for me. Nav buttons are still there after adding "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 " in buildprop and rebooting. I am on Android N. Any ideas?

For this device, the mod is at the hardware level. The fingerprint sensor is just a fingerprint sensor. I modified the kernel to make it behave like a button and send home key events by default. The additional app, Button Mapper, allows you to assign actions to single press, double tap and long press.
You can actually do all this without root, which is pretty cool. But you still need a custom kernel.

Use Xposed and gravity box fingerprint launcher
There's an Xposed module called gravity box that will let you use the fingerprint scanner as the button. No custom kernel needed!
I can't hide the navbar.. help me please

But there is no Xposed for Android 7.0 yet.
How can I do it without changing the kernel but got root?
Is there any way of achieving this without changing the kernel? Because I want other features of my existing kernel. Isn't there an easier way? Like just adding a script or something?
Thanks in advance!
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 doesn't do the required stuff (hide the navigation bar).
Tried it on STOCK Nougat ROM with ElementalX kernel.
Well.. There is a much easier way. I have xt1643 running Lineage OS with Vegito kernel. Hats off to the kernel dev. My phone is so much smoother with less heating issues. Just there is a drop in battery backup. And coming back, in linage OS u have an Option to use expanded desktop with takes away the Navbar and Status bar. Use can swipe n bring it anytime you want. Also you can use the fingerprint as the home button..
Hey, I'm also an user of Lineage OS and there's an option in settings to set FP sensor as home button (an also double tap works as multitask), and the option to use expanded desktop mode (but I don't use this because apps still leave space as if the navbar existed - as it does -, showing up every time you type something etc), but I prefer to hide it completely editing build.prop as suggested.
So, with this setup, I don't really need the app cited on 1st post (also, when I tried it kept bugging).
BUT my problem is, there's no option as to set some gesture to work as back button. In a lot of apps there's a back arrow in the left top so it works nice, but there's also a lot more apps that doesn't have this, so it's kind of annoying.
Is there some way to solve this?? Or some mod to bring one button nav (as in the G5) to G4+??
Thanks in advance.
Can you tell me how to add these gestures to a custom rom which currently have none active?
Im using Lenovo P2A42. Its stock Android N has all three gestures for navigation in the fingerprint gesture natively. But none of its custom rom has this fuction. I want to add this function to the custom rom without using any third party app.

fyi: fingerprint gestures

I saw a couple of reviews that said fingerprint gestures were not working on the Essential. Don't know if any of you felt the same, but I was pretty disappointed 'cause I assumed that meant the hardware just didn't work that way and couldn't be made to. Guess those reviewers didn't really know their way around Android though, because I got gestures working today with an app called Fingerprint Scanner Tools - currently have it set for screen off on tap and notifications on swipe, and it's working like a dream.
What the reviewers meant was that fingerprint gestures weren’t available in the stock settings, not that it couldn’t be enabled with a 3rd party app.

Yeah, I guess I've realized that now, but it sounded more hopeless at the time.

Also these app solutions are definitely less reliable as well. With 8.0 there's an official API for these apps in stock Android so hopefully it will get better.

Best app lock you've used?

Dunno if this this the right section to post this. Apologies if this isn't.
Been a MIUI for some time, until I switched to AOSP Extended yesterday because I was fed up by the notifications on MIUI. Everything's been fine except that I really miss the Mi App Lock. I really liked the fact that it hid app previews as well as let me choose what time I want an app to be locked.
While I've come to understand that no third party app will hide my app previews like the one on MIUI, I still want a decent app lock. I've tried a few of the top results on the play store and liked none of them.
So I was wondering what app locks would you guys suggest. Fingerprint lock is absolutely necessary.
Also I'm rooted if that helps.

Hey my phone has just get the update, is this pie already?
Ok, yes, is android P already ?
That is a LOT sooner than I expected. Great work Sony!
Yep! Just installed the update and this is Android Pie. Really fast Sony!
Let me ask can you turn off gesture control? What is the navigation like compared to vanilla pie?
I use Nova Launcher but navigation is like it was before, no gesture navigation like Pixel phones!
But damn that dark notification bar and quick controls panel is boring, all the interface is light and clear except that.
Pictures please
There it is. No specific changes at first glance. I'm going to test it on a daily use to see what's new deeper in the system.
Not all Pixel features are available.
Volume slider is a big issue, can't controle ring volume, only media!
And really not a fan of this half light/ half dark theme made in Sony... We should be able to chose which mode we want.
Not very convenient, that you can't expand the volume slider popup to do so - as before.
Also I'ld be cool about the rest, even the bulkier quick controls, if I could try/use gesture controls. But couldn't find any option to activate that.
Off Album art show in lockscreen on Android 9. I really love it???
Insert Picture error?
No gesture nav? Dang it, do you really have to have a Pixel for that?!
So glad there isnt gesture control. Sony always mods each build perfectly so we don't have to try out BS 'features'! So glad Sony is back to not being just about pretty hardware.
Anyone here who still hasn't even got the 51.1.A.11.51 update (September security patch)? For some reason my phone is still on 51.1.A.11.26 (August security patch) and just tells me it has the latest available system updates.
Bought it from amazon.es so it's not like it's my carrier that's "blocking" the updates. It also has more than 50% of space available on internal memory, so that shouldn't be the issue either.
Anyone try to test SD card speed?

Do you also have this bug, that the switches are outside of the background?

It is a known bug on Android Pie, not a Xperia specific issue.
Need help
Hello everyone, I received this update too. But since I installed it, when friends or for work call me on the phone I do not have the time to answer ?! Can anyone help me?
Thank you very much
I updated yesterday, since then the fingerprint sensor doesn't work very well. It used to be very responsive. Anyone else noticed this?
That is ugly, and doesnt look useable. As far as the other bugs go and the camera having too many 'enhancements' think its best to stick with the last version of Oreo made. And not.go any further. Its true nowadays, whats old is always better!

Fingerprint gestures on P

Hi everyone,
So I noticed that app-based solutions have been phased out with P, but which other solutions work for fingerprint gestures? Are kernels the best way to go? If so, which ones do you personally find most favorable?
Bonus if it also contains AOD.
Thanks in advance!
