My service is with Boost Mobile. I have been trying to root the Kyocera Hydro phone I have so I can turn on the wifi hotspot and tethering. I was told by a factory rep and Amazon that this phone can do that job. Boost Mobile says it can't. Boost Mobile says the only 2 phones that will do wifi hotspot and tethering on thair service is the Samsung Galaxy s2 and the HTC Veo. I can't afford ether one new. I was also told by a person online that has been pointing me to online articles about rooting phones. Starting with the fundamentals of rooting. That this phone can do the wifi hotspot and tethering if rooted. I have gotten real deep into my phone. though I am not shure it is rooted. I see a lot of files that look a lot like windows operation/system files. But I know enough not to do anything with them beyond looking. If i can't get this phone to do wifi hotspot and tethering. Then can someone please tell me what phone would be good for what I need, for what I can afford or trade for. I got the Kyocera Hydro new from Amazon for $150.00 Other then the wifi hotspot and tethering this phone has suited my needs well. Sometimes (but not often enough to buy a separate cell phone type usb device) I take my laptop out on Amateur Radio demo's were there isn't a open wifi to tie into. That's why I need the wifi hotspot and tethering. I always have some kind of a/c power to plug into at the site.

I would also like to know how to tether... I've already rooted my kyocera hydro tho and only thing i'm having trouble with is finding a working app that will allow me to tether to my laptop. Right now i'm using my gfs galaxy s2 (t-mobile) and it works great for playing hearthstone. The only app i've found that works with the hydro is SVTP WIFI USB Tethering Lite. Bad thing is it only works for 2 days and then it wont work anymore. So i rooted my phone thinking that would work but it still doesn't and I would buy the Pro version but the app store wont allow me to since it says my provider (boost) doesn't allow it. If you could point me in the right direction as to how to tether I would really appreciate it.
i got my friends kyocera hydro rooted.
trying to find a working method to make it a 3g mobile hotspot over wifi connection
anyone know an app that actually works or a method to get it done?
does any proxies need to be disabled in any hidden menus?
The app is called "wifi tether for root user". Its on the play store but I can never find with store app. Do a google search it will show in the google play apps link. You will need to change device profile to "generic ics/jb wlan0". Best tethering app you can get.
Can you tell my how you rooted your hydro?
I recently purchased a ZTE N9810 (aka Virgin Mobile Supreme and Sprint Vital). I was easily able to root it via the Kingo one-step root software (and yes, I used rootchecker to confirm the root was successful.) However, I have tried several different tethering apps and none of them are able to broadcast a wifi signal to my laptop or other phone I have. I used barnacle; it said it was running and beaconing the signal, but I was unable to actually find the network. WiFi Tether wasn't working either. I know that there hasn't been much work done with this phone, but I'm wondering if anybody can help me set up a tether with it.
So while I was writing this, totally frustrated, I was still screwing around with WiFi tether and I figured out how to make it work. Root your phone with Kingo (or however you want, but Kingo seems like by far the easiest solution.) Download from the Play Store "WiFi Tether for Root Users" by Muller, Lemons, Buxton. Go to settings, change device-profile, select Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE). You should be good to go.
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I could not find any information on getting tethering to work with this phone anywhere on the internet, so I hope this helps somebody out.

Thank you! A friend has the Virgin Mobile ZTE Supreme. She's been frustrated by the bloatware she can't remove. Will try this Kingo to root on her phone.
Don't know if you'll ever read this, but thanks. I've had this phone since virgin mobile first started carrying it and only just now got tether working after reading this.

Okay this is gonna take some time to type out, but here we go.
So I got a Virgin Mobile s5 and wanted to root it and put a custom rom as soon as I got it. Got it rooted and when I went to put on the rom, Alliance v9, I soft bricked my phone. After a lot of work I was able to get the rom flashed and it was all good, but I didn't have any mobile internet.
Had to find a Virgin Mobile APN fix and it gave me internet, but now only when I have 4g Internet I do not have cell service. I can go on the internet and do what I want to do, but I cannot make or receive calls. When I'm on 3g internet I have cell service just fine, it's only when I have 4g coverage, which is mostly what I have in my area. I have a couple of go to guys I ask these sort of things but neither one could give me an answer. Can someone help me please?
