Do I have a problem? - General Questions and Answers

OK, so I've been changing phones A LOT lately. Too much. In April 2015, I replaced my two year old S4 with a Moto X14, which had so many issues I bought a Note 5 in August. After getting subpar battery life and seeing the water-resistance of ths S7, I decided to sell my Note 5 and get the S7 in March. It has now been 4 months, and I am feeling like replacing this phone again. Why? Somehow my Exynos version cant seem to get me more than 4h of SOT over an 8h day, which is just BAD. Factory resets dont fix it either. Am I crazy for changing phones this much?

"Do I have a problem ?" This really looks like something you should ask the doctor:laughno offence)
You're not crazy(I know guys who change phones on a more regular basis) although I would suggest doing some research before buying something ,just think what you need most like camera or battery and then buy your preferred phone and stick with it until you need some upgrade .
I spent most of my time with WiFi so what I needed was a 4000 mah battery and I bought it and have been using it.
You'll be losing too much money if it goes on like this.
There's device recommendation thread in xda which could help you for choosing .as for your current phone ,since it can't get you through the day replace it if you use it as a daily driver.

roms and kernels?

anyone know why there are no roms or kernels for this phone? wonder if it's because of a locked bootleader? that and the fact that the battery life sux balls i think i might return this. i love the camera and the feel of it but it's still rather laggy even after the newest update
thanks all
No roms and kernels because no custom recovery.
No custom recovery because locked bootloader.
Not sure why you're getting poor battery performance.
Battery life is brilliant for me, I can go a whole day of normal use (my normal use is probably heavy use to most people) and still have 40% when I go to bed .
What kind of apps are you using to get such lag and battery drain?
Yea, i see everyone complaining about the battery life but i have had no issues with battery life or drainage.
that was with just the basics installed. 100 percent when i start the day around 8:30 the used it to stream pandora for an hour on the way to work. then it sat in my pocked unused and the battery was at 15 percent by 1.
this is even with my battery saver proggie running that cuts of the wifi and cell antenna's when screen is off. no idea im assuming the battery is defective. but now that i know there's not gonna be roms and such i think i might just say fark it and get the m9. i see that there are already tons of roms for that. and i came from a og 3vo so i recognize all the developers.
it's just a bummer i love the curve and the camera on this thing. this is also my third gflex 2 since i got it 3 days ago. the first one just started bootlooping after fifteen mins, the second did the same and now the third seems to work good but the battery life is horrible.
tis a predicament rofl.
thanks for the info gang
j
If that's the case then you might be right about a defective battery.
Either that or the screen is coming on in your pocket, you'd probably notice your skin burning as the phone heats up though.
Have you checked Settings> Battery> Battery Usage, just to see what's using the most battery?
If you're not happy with the flex 2, the m9 is a great phone.
I got my hands on a prototype about 6 months before release, the only reason I didn't get one is that it just didn't feel right in my hand.
Battery life compare to my old Flex 1 is crap. I know its smaller and better screen resolution, but still my old G2 had better battery life than Flex 2 with same screen resolution and battery.
OP should go cr8 it

Is my phone done for?

My Nexus 5 is more than 3 years old, and I think its planned obsolescence is kicking in.
Its battery life right now is about 3 hours, less with intensive use. I've tried buying a new battery, and even tried it with a fresh stock rom, no apps installed, with similar results. It makes sense to it draining so much battery regardless of the conditions? (I won't post GSam screenshots, since the same happens in these different scenarios).
I mean, I LOVE my phone, I can't think of a worthy replacement for good old Nexus 5... but I can't go on with 3 hours of battery life. Has this happened to any of you? What should I do?

I'm sorry to hear this! I just went through HELL and back to get my nexus 5 back working.. (replaced LCD/Digitizer, USB flex cable, Battery, installed chroot and adb/fastboot on chromebook to flash TWRP and root)
It's an AWESOME device. I would suggest getting a decent battery replacement and look at battery management apps or maybe a battery case? If my phone could be used on Verizon, I'd swap out my Galaxy S6 for the Nexus 5 in a heartbeat..
Best of luck!

I've in fact searched for battery cases, and good battery replacements, but being it a discontinued device is kinda hard (almost impossible). I've bought a battery claiming to be "official", still very bad results. For the case, the only battery case I've found available is this one, and it's a bad chinese battery: https://es.aliexpress.com/store/pro...r-Case-Free-Shipping/1267012_32683454756.html
Besides, I'm from Spain, so any usa store probably won't send to my country.
Any recommendations with this are appreciated!

Some of us have bought a battery replacement in RepuestosFuentes. Here's the direct link. They run out of stock from time to time.
As I said, mine is from there and it's working fine. Also, it has a recent manufacture date printed on it.
I still love my Nexus 5. Recently I paid around $13 to get the battery replaced at LG Service Center here in Bangalore, India and now the phone is back and running. Installed AOSP 7.1.1 and it's running as smooth as 6.0.

Actually, I'm not so sure a new battery would make things a lot better. Thing is, any battery attached to my phone just drains extremely fast (maybe some hardware issue?), so... replacing a new internal battery can make things better, but not much, since it's a internal battery.
The ideal solution would be a good battery case, so I can add that to its normal battery. But, as I said, I didn't find one that seems trustworthy for sale right now.

Is Galaxy S6 still relevant in 2018 ??

Is s6 still relevant and how do you rate it in 2018??
can we get bigger battery (S7 battery ) ??
I was dissapointed about S6 battery and had for few days a brand new S7. In my usage pattern, both phones will last from 7am until 8pm so i think the answer to your question is yes, it's relevant.
If you're unhappy, you can swap battery with S7edge
I replaced the battery in my gf's S6, and will be adopting it soon. With a new battery, I'm happy about upgrading to it from my current LG G3.
I have S6 edge, charging every day and still with original battery, running custom ROM from day one. It is great device it is just boring after so many years
I had a Pixel 2 over Christmas and the plan was to sell my S6 but was never 100% happy with the change. The phone felt bigger despite having a smaller screen and the screen itself wasn't as good as the S6, imo. Luckily i could return it after Christmas.
Anyway what I'm saying is the S6 is still a great phone which I'll be sticking with until the new LG/Samsung phones are released and I'll go from there. As good as stock Android was the step up from the amazing S6 wasn't as big as i thought it would be, and there were some things i preferred on the S6.
Battery lasts a day easy for me. Can always top it up at work.
The camera on the Pixel 2 as amazing though.
Its still 2018
its 2018 and its still amazing phone and with s7 edge battery u cant find better phone for that price:laugh::silly:
its still awesome phone no lag at all
(99.9% lag free) the bad thing is the battery for me, I just need to replace it!)

What phones are on your outlook?

Hello all, ,
Getting pretty tired of the 3xl but as i look around i'm not seeing anything really worth it?
Is there something y'all have your eye out for , that still gives us the ability to unlock bootloader flash etc. ?

Perhaps the S11+ Exynos version which will allegedly have an amazing camera and unlockable bootloader.
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL

Having owned exynos samsung devices in the US on t-mo , i can honestly tell you i will never ever eff with samsung again.
The CSC crap alone should be enough to dissuade you.
Until OEMs give the option to run stock Android with updates on the day of release, I'm stuck with Google devices. I don't really care for the pixel hardware or the design to be honest. I just want stock rooted and be able to take OTAs.

Isn't Oneplus the logical choice? My understanding is that the hardware is better than the Pixels and it supports unlocking and flashing.
My Pixel 3 XL is very disappointing as well. It drains battery like crazy. My 3 yr old Pixel 2 XL has almost 40% more battery in identical conditions. And then also P3XL has bluetooth connection issues and reloading of apps in background.
Very bored and discouraged with the phone and can't do much since I spend close to $900 on it.
Thinking of Oneplus as the next device and getting away from Pixels. Do you have any other advice?

I have a pixel 2 that i have as a backup, but of course OP is the logical choice, problem is, i'd much rather spend my money on a 7t pro than a 7t :\

Yes. I agree. But the 7tPro is not available in the US. Also do you know whether OnePlus update Android regularly? One good thing about Pixels is the monthly security patch, and I don't know if OP phones get that.
How is your battery life on the P3XL? Mine is completely garbage. To the point, I have to carry 2 phones around always (Pixel 2 as the backup). IF I'm out, the battery on P3XL drains in real time. I barely even get half a day of light usage.
I've tried EVERY trick in the book: Multiple factory resets, debugging apps, rooting, custom kernels. NOTHING has helped. A P2XL in identical conditions - doesn't drain any battery at all. As I type this, since morning my P3XL has gone down to 51% in 3 hours where as P2XL is still at 83%. Both phones have the same exact apps and same version of Android.

I jus order me a One Plus 7 Pro it was 50 cheaper than the 7t but a way better looking screen then 8 pro gonna have a camera hole on screen but identical to 8 pro. One plus jus releaseed Android 10 beta in oct or Nov so their right behind Google but for half the price 577 with a case screen protector preinstalled 8gb ram 256 storage 90hz fresh rate like the pixel 4 4000mah battery 30 min charge time. Sounds way better to me. Also you should try
Despair Kernel it helped my P3XL in battery life. Also if you root theres magisk module GMS dose will help with the standby drain with Kernel and that module makes it gold .

Thanks. Appreciate the review.
Once you have the Oneplus 7 Pro, I would be very interested to know the comparison with Pixel 3 XL specifically on the screen, sound, performance, battery life etc. I do NOT care about the Camera.

Why I'm selling my OP6 I thought I'd keep until it physically died.

I'll keep it as short as possible without opening myself up to all the usual attacks blaming me for the issues.
I enjoyed most of the nearly 2 years I had my OnePlus 6, at the time it was nearly flagship Samsung/Apple quality for a fraction of the price. Since then, every phone has started having better battery life, better cameras, and sometimes other good features often within the same price range.
I noticed the past few months I've often had to recharge my OP6 2 times a day from ~10% to ~90% to get through the day. Not the worst thing in the world but pretty bad for me, considering I don't like to have to stop and stay near an outlet when I'm doing something. Some days I'd have to charge 3 times.
I was on a late Pie build for a long time because the phone was working so well, and if I've learned anything from my Android experience, if it's working smoothly, far more often than not if you try to upgrade/update the system, you're just going to cause problems rather than make anything better. But I thought maybe my battery issues were from apps and messed up settings and OS files over the nearly 2 years past. I updated to 10 with a completely clean wipe using fastboot. I even factory reset and re-installed another Android 10 ROM. But I've learned the battery life is something that's just a limitation of the undersized battery they put in this phone.
The worst part that really pushed me over the edge was the fact that suddenly on 10 I had all kinds of software and firmware bugs. FCs where there were none before, several apps hanging once in a while, features not working properly. None of this happened in 9, but persisted through clean resets and updates of 10.
I decided this phone had a decent run but is no longer for me. Phones now have much better cameras, huge batteries, and generally better features for not too much more than I paid for the OP6.
Sold my OP6 online and my S20+ is coming this week. I don't plan to buy another OnePlus phone until they put in a large battery (~5000mAh or more) and get cameras on par with flagships. They're not by any means bad phones, I just see them as a bit expensive for the features they offer. Though, I admit the build quality seems excellent. Have not had a single hardware issue with my phone, it's had plenty of water and humidity exposure and has never once had an issue for a second. I drop my phone all the time and never had a major scratch, no cracks (though it's in a case), nor any other issues.
Just thought I'd give some perspective. Personally, if someone asked, I'd say the OP6 is a fine phone for the used price they go for now if you don't mind an average quality camera and don't use your phone all day to the point where battery life is a huge concern.
Sounds more like a run down battery. Just get it replaced and it will be much better again!
Of course, newer phones have better cameras and battery, that's the course of things.
I just returned a brand new oneplus 8 pro due to a faulty screen. Of course, it is a better phone in every way. But after going back to my oneplus 6 i have realized that I don't need to upgrade this year. It's running like a machine, snappy as hell, without any issues. So I will also get a new battery soon and use this phone at least another year, maybe two. Only very few phones are still going that strong 2 years later.
Hmm interesting...
I've used mine for well over a year, and I didn't cared much about caring my battery(plugged in all night, inconsistent recharge, etc...). Still, this 3300mAh lasts over 5h30m SOT, OOS10 at any workload(usually I get about 6h 20m, but in terms of real world, a bit less than that.). If I do some extra work and install some custom ROMs, I could sqeeze out a 8h. So I thought it was more than I can expect from a 3300. Strange that yours degraded much faster.... Hope you enjoy your S20+!

Eh after 300 cycles or so it should not be degraded to needing to be charged 2 or 3 times a day, especially since I babied it trying to only charge it 50% at a time max. Waste of time and money to pay expensive shipping to send it to a 3rd party repair company which may damage the phone (which has happened to me every time I've sent a phone to an "approved" repair center in the past) and the water resistance is destroyed after that as well. It was better to sell it before it became worthless and get a new phone I'll be happier with.

Batteries are a roll of the dice. Most of them will behave as intended, some of them will die out quickly.
I bought mine off of Swappa expecting to have to replace the battery as this has happened before but this battery is still doing awesome, even to this day.
Stock kernel isn't terrible, but I've found Smurf Kernel and bluspark give me some amazing battery lives that I've never seen before. I managed to go about 42 hours with 4 hours of SoT.
Another thing is battery replacements are not very difficult for this phone (I'm a certified phone tech so I guess our experiences vary). That's one of the big reasons I got it to begin with. It's very similar to any recent Samsung Galaxy phone in terms of battery replacement. Pretty easy compared to a lot of other phones I looked at.
I've been having the same battery issues on my OP6, high idle drain >2%/hr in custom ROMs and 1.5%/hr in OOS. Barely get 5 hour SoT on a good day. Beleive me, I've tried everything. I'm a student so can't exactly afford a new phone, I'll charge my phone twice a day for now and get a battery replacement in a few months, hopefully that fixes my issues. I've been pretty rough on my battery I'll say but it still degraded faster than I thought.
