All the buttons, including the volume knob stop working.
It has happened several times on my android 5.1.1/mtcd/joying unit.
When it happens the boot process is strange. It spends a while displaying the car logo, then it displays the desktop for a second or so and then it displays the car logo again. It sort of looks like it boots twice.
Wiping the dalvik cache does not fix the problem. I have to factory reset or wipe everything from recovery to get the buttons working again.
I am currently using malaysk rom for MTCD units but I had exactly the same issue on the stock rom.
I think the problem is related to autostarting apps on reboot.
Today it happened after I installed the Sygic speed camera/traffic alert app. Everything worked fine for a while, until I chose to auto start it (from the settings menu inside the Sygic app), rebooted, and the buttons no longer worked.
To check if the autostart option really caused the problem I installed the app again, chose to auto start from the settings inside the app, and the same thing happened. Buttons no longer worked.
The issue is not specific to Sygic, as I have had the same issue with other apps.
Now I use tasker to autostart the app. It has survived a few reboots. I hope it lasts.
Does anyone understand the boot process on these units well enough to help debug it further?
It would be nice if I could fix it the next time it happens, instead of having to wipe/reinstall everything.
It seemed to be completely random for me... and it stopped happening as randomly as it started.
I posted the process I went through to get them back (reboot, reboot to recovery, reboot again, etc) but very intermittent.
I experience this whenever I reboot from the power icon in the taskbar. It seems to have started after upgrading to Malaysk's version 4. I have verified this on two Joying units. My workaround is to reboot with the reset button when I have to.
I have not had any apps autostart since the last time it happened, but the buttons stopped working again a few days later, and the "double boot" came back also. The reset button did not help.
A factory reset from the settings menu made the buttons work again.
I was using the latest joying rom and MCU. Spotify, iGo navigation (from joying) and the TomTom speed camera app were the only "extras" installed if I remember correctly.
I am about to give up on the (JY-UL135) head unit now. Unless someone has suggestions on what to do.

xdamember2, i think you are right. Power icon in the task bar is the root of evil.
Today i've had the same experience. But with the buttons, the sound had also disappeared. Pushing hardware reset button had fixed the problem.
So I suggest to remove power icon from the task bar.
This happened to me yesterday, but as well as buttons/steering wheel control, all sound output stopped working! No radio, music or navigation sounds. Tried a reboot, but in the end only a factory reset did the trick as specified previously.
Very frustrating!
This happened to me again today for the second time. While driving the screen turned to white/black static like moving artifacts and the sound cut off. After holding the power button to reset the buttons are not working. I'll update to Malaysk's Rom v5 now but looks like my apps are wiped again...
i've been on v5 for the past few days and i haven't witnessed this behavior.
Any luck with the buttons and sound stop working? It`s the same with version 6 of this ROM which i like way better then the stock ROM. I`v noticed that any other reboot except the standard one, when the HU shuts off by it self, will make buttons unusable and no sound. The first time it happen to me was when i did some changes in the "factory settings" menu that needed to reboot the device. The only way i managed to fix it was to do a factory reset. Tomorrow will try to flash the same ROM (V6) without wiping to see if this will fix it,because they don`t work again now after rebooting from the power icon . Lets hope someone finds solution for this annoying issue.
MY FIX for Volume knob not working on Android Head Unit
Hi All
I updated my generic Ford Focus PX5 android head unit, and after much swearing and reading on here, I still was unable to fix the top left volume and top right tuning rotary knobs as they had stopped responding.
Eventually i started mucking about with Factory Settings and in the "OTHER" section I looked at "Knob Mode"
Experimenting with the various settings I eventually determined that for me, "2 10K/20K ADC Ports" works. I now have fully functioning controls.
I hope this is of some help to you guys!
I had been fooling with the settings of my Android head unit and some days later realized my volume knob wasn't working. That knob was a big factor in my purchase of this unit. After fooling with a dozen or more logical sounding settings, I happened upon the setting which had to do with 'Key lights'. Here's the fix:
From 'Settings' go to 'Factory Settings' and enter code 8888. Go to 'Key Light Settings'. On 'please open the debug button lamps' press 'OK", slide the screen up and turn off 'whether to turn on the colorful lights'. Back on out and the volume should now be working. Hope this helps

I recently bought a new android head unit. All are working well except the original volume knob of the car. Sometimes i must turn it 4-5 clicks for the volume to move 1 click, and other times i may turn it 10-15 clicks and the volume does not respond at all. This is very frustrating! I found a solution on youtube which says factory settings-other- and uncheck the wheel3 option, but my head unit doesn't have this option at all. I hope your solution will help me!
Update : I searched for this solution you mentioned but this option does not exist in my factory settings with 8888 code. Only car logo. I dont know what to do....

When I wake the polaris up, it seems that the left button (the one in the wheel) is permanently pressed until I press another button. I have to do this in order to unlock the device, as the button is pressed I only get the message "Press cancel and then unlock".
This happens every time I wake up the device and sometimes when I am using it in other situations. It is almost unusable in this state.
I suppose it is a hardware problem. Any ideas for a way to fix it? I wouldn't like to send it to service, but I am fearing this is the only chance I have now. Any help would be appreciated. I have already switched it off, and also removed the battery for a while, but I have the same problem when I turn it on again.
This has happened to me for the first time yesterday. The device has not fallen to the ground any time since I have it (since February). I only carry it in my pocket.
Thanks for your help.
ah, I forgot to tell you. When the button stops being pressed (because I have pulsed another one) it doesn't work anymore. If a press it, no effect, the cursor doesn't move to the left...
I have read in another forum that someone who had a similar problem with the wheel managed to solve it by doing a hard reset and by restoring a backup done before the problem. He stated that using the option "erasing memory" didn't work and that he had to do the hard reset by doing "gps button + ie button + soft reset".
Here is the funny thing. I cannot do that kind of hardreset. Why? Because as the left button seems always pressed the confirmation screen in which you must press the send button to perform the hard reset, never appears. I guess it is due to the cruise which detects that the combination of buttons is no good or because the confirmation screen is shown but as the left button is pressed, you do not have enough time to press the send button (I don't even see the screen).
Is there anyway to perform the hard reset in another way? Thanks for your help...
Well, my cruise works fine now. What have I done? Nothing. Maybe it was a hardware problem in the contact of the button (some dirt or whatever) and now it is working. I don't know, although it wouldn't surprise me if it were software (I had a similar problem with the vibrator in a Mio A701, two days broken, got to work after that and never again failed). I just used the bluetooth and received a couple of calls.
Now I can hardreset. As the button is no longer permanently pressed, the combination of buttons works. Although I haven't pressed "send" to actually do it, since it seems fine.
More here if it fails again, but as I told you I read similar problems in the wheel in another forum...
My TD2 keeps wanting to turn off - the power off screen comes up (do you want to turn off your device?). If I select yes, it shuts down and immediately restarts. If I select no, it pops up again within a few minutes.
The device doesn't respond to the power button. I can't perform a hard reset, soft reset works OK, but problem continues. IF left sitting, the phone goes to sleep but wakes up soon after and the power dialog comes up again. If I remove and replace the battery, device starts OK but problem continues.
It may be coincidence, but this started hapenning the day after I (stupidly) opened a strange MMS and tried to play the attached "video" - which didn't play.
Haven't tried to reflash ROM - not sure what ROM I should be looking for. Current ROM version is 2.31.841.6 (64646) WWE. Should I just look for that? (This is a Telstra TD2 that I have had for bout a year - bought online)
Thanks.
Hello everyone, I have just recently bought this Lenovo A5000, everything was perfect until i did a mistake today, just an hour ago. I will list step by step how i encountered the problem below.
1. I did some search on the net about hidden code or secret code for service menu(for lenovo)
2. I found some then i tried this code ####999# then all of sudden the screen changed to multiple [email protected] testing followed by microphone test, then camera test then some other test. It keeps repeating and does not stop.
3.I tried to press whatever key is available along with home menu or multitasking hot key but no avail. It keeps repeating and repeating, Pressing on/off power button also not working.
4. The only things that work is, i was able to scroll down for hidden menu as we do on all android phone. I can go to settings but only settings display etc. I tried to search for the running service test on running programs under the apps menu but nothing. I also tried to press power off/on button here but no avail.(please take note thatthe service test still running at the background during this time).
5.Finally when i tried to close any running systems apps i managed to get into dialling menu. but again i just leave it here because the service test does not seems to work here.
6. Lastly when i look at my phone, it was already black in screen that i believe it was in sleep mode but when i press any button this phone doesnt awake. tried to press the power on/off longer but no avail. unfortunately i cant pull of the battery because it was not removable.
Hopefully anyone of you can suggest me how i can revert it back to normal. Really this is unexpected. I ONLY pressed ####999# and voila [email protected] test started. I appreciate much your help guys. Thanks
NOTE;
I dont know where i get the idea but, as i said above, the phone goes to sleep with no response. What i did a few minutes ago ,
1.Press the power on/off button and keep pressing the volume up several times followed with volume down then release.
Then Lenovo logo comes up, then VOILA! my phone was normal again.
Anyway i will always give a credit to XDA forum for many valuable tips and knowledge that i learned before. Thanks
I factory reset my phone and during the process of signing in, agreeing to T&C's etc, a strange problem started occurring - the touchscreen became super unresponsive (had to press something three of five times for it to respond), however, at the same time, the phone would quickly vibrate on touch multiple times, but again, not actually do anything. Moreover, a weird blue text box started appearing around the options I touched and I can't swipe down to access the normal settings menu.
And to top it all off, if I long hold the power button to force restart/power off, it just won't do it. (tried the old "turn it off and on" trick to see it'll do the trick)
Everything was all normal until this point, had my phone for a couple of months, haven't dropped it or anything. Does anyone know why this is happening, and if so, how to fix this?
Thanks so much in advance!

In fact, I can't swipe at all ... in the app drawer if I swipe, it just goes to the next app , instead of the next screen.
Hi, i've installed Malaysk v4 rom and it worked fine for a couple of weeks. Now i've a big problem: buttons on mtcd and buttons on steeringwheel not working at all! CanBus work fine because i can see climatronic info on display. When i receive a call unit don't switch to bluetooth page. What do you think i can try before reset unit?
I've another bug: when unit power on it go to homescreen, then reboot and after that work
reinstall the rom over itself you wont lose any apps or settings and it should fix it, I had this same exact circumstance happen. It also happens if I use the reboot menu instead of just letting the unit shut down and turn back on
I am running the v4 rom if that matters.
Thank you for reply, 3 daus ago i've reset my unit. Next time i'll have this issue i will try your suggestion
