Adaptive Charger recognition - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

While the 'Fast charging' option turned ON, Will the S7 be able to not initiate fast charging/adaptive charging with any normal charger (non-compatible with 'adaptive charging')?

No, it needs to be either a Samsung adaptive charger, or a Quick Charge 2.0/3.0 compatible charger (note that a QC 3.0 charger will still only charge at QC 2.0 speeds)

So If I plug any regular charger with 'Fast Charging' turned ON it will work as normal and won't be having problem, am I right?

With Quick Charging on, you can use 5V/2.1A (or 5V/2.4A) chargers and get faster charging. About 2 hours for a full charge. It will show "charging" on-screen.
With Quick Charging off, all chargers become "normal" slow chargers at 5V/1.0A. It will show "slow-charging" on-screen.

It will work with no problem. But your phone will not FAST CHARGE since you are not using an adaptive charger, quick charge 1.0/2.0/3.0 charger. It will only charge at a normal rate.

Charging while using gps :(

Before I got this charge I ran nothing but HTC phones on tmobile. while being plugged into car charger and using gps the battery level goes down fast. It doesn't maintain the charge or add to it while navigating. Is this a samsung thing? Any remedies?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
That cannot be right. Make sure your car charger, when it charges your phone, is pulling AC instead of USB.
GPS uses very little juice. Just get the 950ma Motorola charger from Amazon for 5 bucks. Something is messed up if your phone doesn't charge

Mine doesn't discharge, but it doesn't charge hardly at all. I'm using the Verizon dual port charger (the one that has a USB port on it as well as the standard charging end)

I use a Monoprice 2A USB charger with an OEM USB cable. Charges extremely slowly or just stays level, but never drains.

With GPS on, you barely Charge with that charger? I know its limited by the kernel at 800mA or so, but damn, that should charge you up fine.
I rock GPS in the car all the time and I still Charge pretty quickly...

All depends on what you're running at that time-4G, cell and GPS reception, etc.

Make sure you are using a high amp charger. I like the one from Motorola.
Even so, with 4g and the screen on - the phone charges slowly. Turn the screen off and it charges much quicker.

Samsung has two wireless charging pads. What's the difference?

Samsung offers two wireless charging pads. One is mini and the other is standard size. Is it just the size that is the difference? Does one charge faster than the other?
Standard:

Mini:

It looks like the mini only does 1amp charging while the standard does 2amp charging. In short, the standard will charge your phone faster.

That's totally lame. I was going to get the mini just because it looks better and more professionally styled. But I guess not anymore.

Where did you get that info from? In the description of the mini one it clearly states is comes with a 2A charger!
My understanding is that the mini is a new model released with the S5 whereas the other has been around for at least a year now.
Even if it comes with a 2A charger it only charges at 1amp. It's a limitation of wireless charging

I guess that sorta makes sense. I figured I'd use it more like drop my phone down to charge up a bit real quick before heading back out the door. Kind of a busy life style type thing.

The S5 has more than 2 points of contact for the wireless charging back. Not sure if it is for nfc, but maybe the doubled the charging capabilities by having two separate charging coils?
Edit: This is my first post is 5 years, I feel like a lurker.
The power of pad doesn't matter, the coil from the back of the case is the charging source. So for s4 note 3 it's 650 mamps and the new one for s5 is 700 mamps( if i spoted right in the pictures). The difference is in aspect and size only.

Are they up to 1A now? Last I checked, there wasn't a wireless charger anywhere that charged faster than 850mAh. Which is only 30% as fast as the USB 3.0 charging of 2500mAh.

If you look at pictures the S5 official wireless cover charges at 760ma.

1amp is theoretical charging speed.
Just like how the phone stock charger is 2amps, it will max out at around 1.8 amps

Get them while they last!!
I have three wireless chargers. The small original Samsung, one Nillkin and a noname. I am using the original charging back from Samsung. I am very happy with the small original Samsung charger. The S5 gets much less warm than with the both others and it stops charging at 100%.
I had it on the Nillkin over night and the next day when it has been at nearly 100% already in the evening it was extrem hot at the morning and still charging but it showed 100% but not the full message at all. Very suspicious. With the noname I very often have the wireless charging detected message when it comes over 9x% so it looks as if the charger often "looses the connection" to the wireless charging back cover.
The original small Samsung charger says 5,3V and 2A on the back and it loads at maximum wireless power with the original back cover and the original power supply. For me this is the best combination. The only thing is, that you cannot use the S5 very well while charging because of the small charging pad. I most time take the charging pad with the S5 in one hand so it cannot tilt.

3 coils vs 1 coil.
3 coils is better with cases and easier to place the phone on it.

Both samsung charger are 1 coil.
3 coil offer a wide surface detection, but does not mean it's better that a single coil charger.

How about a custom kernel with fast charge? Are you using the stock wall adapter and USB cable? Their outputs matter

If everything fails, flash stock back on... See if it still does it. If it does, its cord, charger or USB port is damaged and loose.

Nexus 6p charger

Was wondering if using a charger from a nexus 6p would hurt this phone or if it wouldn't matter with the USB c.
Sent from my XT1650 using XDA Free mobile app
it shouldnt...im not familiar with the charger though...
is it a fixed cable?
if the cable is removable, is it usb-c to usb-c??...if it is, then it will "turbo charge" our phones, but not as fast as the included charger
The nexus charger is USB c to USB c.

I heard same thing with "s8 fast wireless charger". It's not really fast.
I'm my area, the cost of s8 wireless charger is 4 times the cost of s7 wireless charger. I was thinking the price difference is just because of the package label but maybe the same thing.
Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk
assuming you are referring to the samsung branded standing pad, I have two and they both quick charge the S8. I read here that quick charge does not work while the screen is on, can't confirm or deny this since my screen has never been on while on the pad. The new version I believe is in leather dressing, not much difference otherwise. Also, make sure you are using the Samsung plug that came with it or other quick charge plug. the quick charge is dependent on the plug and the cable supporting it, not just the charging pad.
I have the S7 standing quick charger and it fast charges the S8 Plus

yes, have it, works well
I just tested. With the S8 Edge hooked up with included fast charger, phone shows 77% charged, 35 minutes approx to fully charged. I unplugged and placed the phone on the S7 wireless standup fast charger, using the cable & charger that came with the S7 wireless setup. The results were 77% charged, with approx 42 min til fully charged.

It works and it fast charges. A lot of people fail to realize it charges faster than other wireless chargers, and is still not compared to wired charging.

This one works well and charges S8+ in around 3 hours.
Likewise the older Samsung wireless puck (used on my note 5) now works perfectly using a fast charger. Not as quick as plugged in and it wasn't enabled at all when I first got the S8+ so samsung must've sent an update to enable the older pucks.
