SuperSU binary updates - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently, I am on a SM-G900P kltespr with a build number of aokp_kltespr_userdebug 6.0.1 MOB30M 98b7612257 test-keys. Kernel version [email protected]#1 32-bit. I have been using Chainfires SuperSU and for the past few days I keep getting a notification concerning the binaries needing updating for SU. I've tried regular updating, and also through TWRP and for the life of me I don't know why I keep getting a failed to update message. If this is the wrong place for this issue then I do apologize. Why is the update continually failing? and what do I do to fix it?

Did you use the systemless root version?

hmm cant' say that i did. Thanks for asking that...guess I better check. will that take care of it?

systemless root version seems to be working well. Thanks again. I had tried the SU from CM and was getting the same error when trying to update.

Glad you got it working! Yeah you have to use the systemless root version.

SM-P900 note pro 12.2 WIFI root P900XXUANI1

Hi I have read all the thread concerning rooting my note pro. I am one of the unlucky ones who cannot get it to work with cf autoroot. I have read that some one installed twrp with odin and then flashed it with twrp to root it rather than using odin.
However all the threads have lots of links for different builds and versions of both files and I dont want to brick my pad.
Could someone who has used this method on the UK version of the sm-p900 wifi please post a couple of links to the file needed?
Any help appreciated and I have literally tried to flash using odin approx 60 times using every possible trick mentioned on the cw root thread.
Thanks
Nemo
Strangely enough I flashed back to stock firmware from Sammobile yesterday. After I did that, I couldn't root either using CF. Kept hanging in ODIN and soft bricked my note.
I then tried flashing with TWRP via ODIN 3.07 and it worked again. When I went into TWRP to check and exited it asked if I wanted to root, so I did and it was fine. Then I installed SU and Xposed and it's rooted and working fine.
Firmware I used is here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/38389/P900XXUANI1_P900BTUANI1_BTU.zip/
TWRP is here: https://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/v1awifi/. I think I installed 2.8.0.0 (the TAR one), link here: https://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/v1awifi/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.0-v1awifi.zip
Hope that helps?

Don't know why CF won't work, but it did originally when I first rooted. Tried various ROMs since and now I've gone back to UK stock firmware it wouldn't work, weird!

Safe to take "Security policy updates" if rooted?

Got a message this morning that there was a security policy update to download. I'm thinking this is to resolve the keyboard issue - does anyone know for sure? Am I able to take the update at all if I'm rooted (but stock)? Will it break anything? Sprint version, so I don't think it's the 5.1.1 update.
i just ignore/cancel
5.1.1 is a major update which will come via an OTA.
Pretty sure the security updates have to do with updating certificates etcs on the phone though they have always been a bit vague on their purpose. If you decline them, they will just ask again. Never had a "security" issue accepting them rooted or otherwise.
I did it, now my root doesn't work. FML.

Right - to clarify, I'm not talking about the major ota that updates you to 5.1.1. I'm referring to the notification that refers to "Security policy updates". It's my understanding that this has to do with the keyboard security issue, as opposed to updating the os, but I'm not sure.

No it's not 5.1.1, I'm on the 920i, so 5.1.1 isn't even out.

Yeah I've tried the newest 6.0b version, it claims it gets root, but doesn't. Running root checker says I have root, but shortly after says I don't. Opening apps that require root, I can grant them root permission, but then it doesn't actually obtain it.

When I get home I think I'm going to try and wipe and reroot. I really need root for xmod -_-
I took the security update earlier. Still have root. No issues.

AT&T Tab 4 8" T337A Temp Root

This is a temp root and will be removed every hard boot.
I am not responsible if you break your device!
You have been warned.
Knox is not tripped
Hello All, I Have found a temp root process for those who have the AT&T Tab 4 with the kernel build Thu Aug 13 17:01:34 KST 2015.
Download Tab 4(Temp root), you will have 3 files. Odin 3.07, boot(LP_fix).tar and Kingroot-4.1.apk.
Install KingRoot on your tablet run and click Start Root. After the first time the process of checked for root will take longer as su will still be installed.
You will now have KingUser installed in /system/app/
When uninstalling bloatware, do it in one go.
When you have to reboot, reboot into download mode or you will get the AT&T unauthorized screen.
Use Odin to Flash PDA with the boot(LP_fix).tar, this will wipe the su links so the kernel doesn't see it and will boot. You will reboot automatically back to the launcher and will be able to reboot without using Odin.
Need help furthering permanent root as this is beyond my skills.
Update 1/27/16 14:35
Deleting all knox related apps is safe so far, setting build.prop ro.build.selinux=0 and a soft reboot seems to put kernel in permissive mode. Download a soft reboot app from the play store for reboots.
Don't let you tablet die and you don't have to keep doing this process!
Thanks to CocaFoca for the boot(LP_fix).tar.
Thanks for the dev(s) of KingRoot.
Does it work
Anyone try this yet?

Seems kind of weird no one is commenting on this, wonder if it works
I see this on a few different sites but no comments on any of them. I use my tab for work and can't afford to be Guinea pig and turn tab into hockey puck so have to wait a while I guess. If anyone can confirm that this works let us know please
Seeing as how the author wont even reply its not worth the risk to me
This works just no hard boots. No knox trips either. Still working on recovery methods maybe someone can help upload there build.prop.

Just search soft reboot in play store and it has red arrows in a circle motion. As long as you don't mess with build prop you will be fine.
on your notes on the 27th you put to do.... setting build.prop ro.build.selinux=0...... do I still do that? The last message you sent said as long as I dont mess with build prop I will be fine...

If you know what your doing you can change build.prop, do you need permissive kernel? All it does is disables SElinux for stuff like xsposed which isn't supported yet. Its aimed more to someone who will help farther to permanent root. The build prop is really good for this device.
I cant get that odin to open will 3.09 work? I already have that one installed

dumb question, I want viper4android and most say to flash in custom recovery. Can I still go into stock recovery without screwing things up? Then if I can I would have to go into download and flash through odin and then reroot right?

No custom recovery yet as I was told bootloader is locked, until someone confirms custom recovery works in am staying away as there's no Odin firmware and I need warranty. Yes Odin 3.09 will work but it will remove root really no need unless a hard reboot is needed your your tablet dies. Just keep with soft reboots. As for viper I would stay away soundalive is way better. Stock recovery will not work.
Better than viper4android? I highly doubt that. Don't think that is possible
First, just want to say thanks for sharing this info & zip. It brought my tab back from the dead after i rooted. (initially i was unaware it had a locked bootloader until after i rooted). I just have a cpl questions maybe someone in here can answer.
1. Has anyone tried using Flashify or Root Rashr to flash the boot_LP_fix.tar before powering off? I personally have never used either app so i dont know if either can flash .tar files. I know Mobile Odin would probably work, buy it doesn't support LP. 2. Has anyone installed busbox? 3. Do any of the "Hide Root" type apps function in such a way as to let the tab reboot? Those were just a few questions i had about this. Thanks for any info.

Hide root does not work has to do with the kernel checking for root or sumlinks, busy box installs and works but no idea on flashify.
Thanks. Appreciate the info. Im only looking for a way to safely power down bcuz about 2 or 3 times a week my tab doesnt get plugged I into a charged so it gets shut off. My girlfriends mother & son play with it & use it to stream movies. It would be great if there was a functional equivalent of Mobile Odin Pro so when i was done busing it i vould simply flash the tar. file so it would boot. Maybe ill do a little experimenting & see what happens. Thanks again
Can someone with a rooted SM-T337A do a system dump with these files included modem.bin, NON-HLOS.bin, recovery.img, a cache dump, and the PIT file??? Please
Thanks worked
I think I dun goofed :c. Was working fine, then I had to reboot, flashed the .tar, but I think I was a second late on catching it, because now it doesn't boot :c Hangs on ATT screen. HEEELP :C
Does anyone have a tar file for the t337a?

Pingpong root no longer working?

I recently had to odin back to stock OE2 on my device and am trying to re-acquire root access however Pingpong root keeps telling me my device is unsupported when I attempt to Download Data as per the instructions. I rooted originally with Pingpong many months ago when my device was brand new so dont understand why this is failing. I am rooted now via Kinguser but dont like it as I would prefer to have SuperSU installed so that I can use flashfire. Anyone have any ideas? Its almost like Pingpong is not downloading any updated data, I have verified that my build number is right so totally stumped. Anyone have any ideas on how to get Pingpong to work again or another means of getting SuperSU installed and the binary to update?
Additional note: I never took any OTA updates, was on OE2 ever since unboxing the phone nearly a year ago.
Attached is a screenshot of my build version.
Which version of ping pong root are you trying? Not sure if that matters though.
Tried both versions listed, beta5.1 and beta6. Both say device not yet supported. I am thinking that the pingpong app is just no longer downloading the data required.
i wonder if i make a flashfire back up of certain partitions, if you can flash my backup and get the result your wanting. Im thinking just system partition. Since its a verizon gs6, you think it would work? Obviously i wont do the efs partitions.

I cant use FlashFire since I cannot get SuperSU installed and the binary to update. I'm stuck with this stupid kingroot which I have to re-run every time I reboot the phone to get root. I need Pingpong to start working again

Nothing really I guess, other than having to re-run the root process every time I reboot my device. Not to mention I cant get Flashfire to run with it so that I can switch to one of the custom roms that are available. Really have major buyers remorse with this bloody phone.

I've never run into that with stock recovery but I had that issue with clockworkmod a long time ago.
You might verify you have the correct update zip for your tablet.
Usually that error comes from the tag in the updater script being for another model.
It could also be that the zip you have isn't official and needs to be installed from non stock recovery.
If you are full stock anyways I would recommend just using the Samsung switch software to run the update instead (unless you have a reason to install a version below the latest.)
i tried installing switch and it errors saying something about side by side configuration is incorrect im on windows 7 64

Looks like the same issue found here: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Tablets/Smart-Switch-won-t-start-side-by-side-configuration-problem/td-p/50275
According to that post you need to find and install the following:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
Sorry about that, it just straight worked for me when I used it last. Hopefully this helps.

I think that depends what model you have.
I'm on the Verizon P905V model so for me there is no root for 5.1.1 and the bootloader is locked so I dont have custom recovery.
if you have a model that allows custom recovery as indicated in your first post you would be better off flashing a custom rom if one is available.

quick question, i have the same verizon model p905v and been putting off updating, currently on 4.4.2, i used to have root, but no longer b/c i took an update by accident.
my main thing is the multi-window apps drawer, can you still add apps to that drawer that aren't "officially" supported for multi-window? i use this function almost 100% of the time i'm using the tablet since i use it in my car as GPS/podcast/music player. i use this app currently to help with that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xpe.app.multiwindow.commander
when i open the app, it says i don't have root, but the app still lets me add apps the the multiwindow apps drawer that weren't there by default.
is there any way you can test this out or if someone else can chime in on that, i'd appreciate that.
I tried the app you posted but without root it doesn't seem to work .
It let's you make the changes within the app but they revert when you reboot, and you have to reboot for them to go through.
