Hi,
is it possible to disable the reboot when power button is pressed for 10 seconds?
i rebooted my phone twice accidentally when it was locked because the power button was pressed for 10 seconds in my trousers pocket...
thx for info...
As far as I'm aware that feature is hard coded into all android devices and can't be disabled. Its especially important for devices with non-removable removable batteries since if the device freezes you have no other way to force a reboot. I stand to be corrected though.
I'm assuming you don't keep other items in the same pocket as your phone? But perhaps you may want to look into a cover/case that makes it a little more difficult to press the button in your pocket.
This option plus "volume up + power button" is a one stop thief reset of the phone no matter what tracking app you have. Unless of course rooted. I would rather be able to disable this option as I have more chances having phone stolen than frozen.
On other Android devices I had, you needed to press at least two buttons at once for a reboot, so it would not happen accidentally. With Mate 8, I reboot it with the power button weekly...

I must be searching for the wrong things. What is the button combination to force a shutdown on the Note Pro? Thanks.
eric
Press and hold:
Power only - power off
Power + vol up - recovery
Power + vol dn - download mode.
Is this what you are needing?

Those were what I was expecting. But the power+vol combinations aren't doing anything on mine. It is a Verizon LTE version, but I wouldn't think that would make a difference?
They should work . . . best way IMO is to just do a shutdown from within the OS, then while the tablet's off press and hold a vol/home combo prior to pressing and holding the power button. Once the model number splash screen appears let go of power first while holding the other two . . hold the other two for a second or so and then let go.

Ok, this is really silly, but I don't find any way from the Note Pro's OS to do a power down, other than the popup from holding the power button?
(Sorry, bit of background, this all started from a problem that my power button was only working to wake the tablet, but after that, had no effect whatsoever. After mucho playing, for no apparent reason, finally the popup menu came up, I did a restart, and it's been 100% since than. But it has left me worried how to do a shutdown if the power button isn't working. No pulling the batteries on these things.)

Correct, when booted into android OS a momentary holding of the power button will bring up the power menu one option within which will be to power off. This is typical of many android devices.
Are you sure your power button is operating normally?
I have read elsewhere of a user having issue with his power button not feeling right (less travel than anticipated without much tactile feedback when depressed indicating possible defect).
I would like to add for clarity that there is no force shutdown via hardware button, only force reboot. Holding power down for several seconds will force a full reboot. Holding it down briefly to get the power menu gets the power off option in the menu to fully turn the tablet off. If your tablet reboots after this option is chosen then something is wrong.

No, because after returning to working fine yesterday it is acting up again. Not a hardware problem - if the tablet is off, the button will always work to wake it up. But once again, it is now not being responded to when the tablet is awake - either a quick push, a long push, or in combination with the other buttons.
It seems like this is a software problem, either driver or app, since mechanically the button works every time to wake up the tablet. And, of course, I can't do a shutdown or reboot to see if that clears it, because its not responding to the power button. Can't remap the power button because no root available on the Verizon LTE model. Frustrating.

I would take it back to Verizon. IMO software shouldn't interfere with a long depress forcing a reboot. That function is fundamental. This still sounds to me like a possible hardware issue where a long press is not identified as such (intermittent connection in the button).

But a short press also doesn't work when the tablet is on, but does work when the tablet is off. But then it clears up, and always works properly for awhile.
Unfortunately, unlike phones, taking out the battery isn't an alternative option...
I dunno what to tell you. Without root I don't see how any software you have installed on the tablet would have changed anything, and without the ability to get into download mode I'm not sure there's a way for you to do a factory reset that will fix the issue (if it is indeed a software one). I hope someone else chimes in that can help. My suggestion to take it in to Verizon still stands though.
Good luck!
So Honor 6+ my power button had been kinda stuck for a while and sometimes it would take holding it in for 20-30 seconds, but I always got it on eventually and used apps like 'Volume Power' to use the volume buttons to unlock the screen if the power button was stuck.
The key was basically to try to avoid letting the phone go off, but last weekend I'm on a plane no plug and it happens. I knew it was a matter of time before the power button simply didn't respond at all and that's what has happened. I've been pressing and holding it in hope constantly but nothing.
Phone is only 6 months old so I contact Huawei (in UK) to arrange repair. They offer me a new one but obviously I would rather my own fixed. Here's the killer - as a policy they wipe every phone that comes to their repair centre. I mean are you serious?! They send me detailed instructions on how to back my phone up before sending it out. However, obviously no instructions as to how to get the freaking thing on without the power button to back it up.
I would be hugely appreciative if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get it on without the button, even just once, and back up tons of vacation snaps and a lifetime worth of contacts. I'll try anything before I give up and send it off to them to get back blank . Thanks!
My phone(PE-TL10) is similar now. Its power button is not working. I think it's broken because I changed the region code (CHN to EU).To switch on when the phone is switched off, I connect to the PC with the data cable while the volume up key is pressed. I use the "titanium backup" application to turn off or reset the phone. I press the volume down button long to open the screen. Disgrace
My primary phone has met its maker but my brother has given me an older/busted up Nexus 5 to use as a replacement.
The screen on the phone is broken up pretty good but I put a screen protector on it to stop from it shedding glass or getting any worse.
The biggest issue i'm having is with disabling the power button.
The button itself sticks frequently, and while I can find lots of solutions to waking the phone up, I can't find many solutions for disabling the power button.
The phone is currently unlocked and using TWRP. Just need to figure out how to disable the power button without bricking the phone.
In the same boat with a sticking power button.
I am using the "gravity screen" app to avoid having to use the power button.
I have been able to get through without using the power button for the last 6 months.
key things.
never let the phone power down.
restart the phone once every day . (use twrp restart or tasker for scheduled restart)
hope that helps.
Enjoy the Nexus 5
P.S. : I am close to the 3 year mark on my Nexus 5 after ordering it the day it was launched.
I'm having a problem with the power button. It seems that it is a "feature" of the Honor 8 that if you hold down the power button for 5 seconds, the phone will restart without asking if that is really what you want to do. It happens either when I am carrying the phone in my left hand with my fingers wrapped around the buttons on the right side, or when the phone is in my pocket and I am working outside and I squat down and my pocket presses against the power button. Is there a way to disable the phone from restarting without asking? If the screen is unlocked, there is a prompt but after 5 seconds of holding the power button, it restarts anyway.
I think it's a common "safety" feature in practically any Android phone that if you keep power button pressed long enough, it will force reboot the phone. It's been that way in my Samsung, Motorola, Google, Asus, and Honor phones.
Hello,
last evening my s10e had an issue at the power button/fingerprint scanner, it doesnt work anymore! for me now it's impossible to power on the phone, i feel a classical click when i push the button, but the phone doesn't start, is there a way to power on it without this button?

Help me please, i am in greece for holidays and i can't go in a samsung point
Are you tries restarting phone with button combo?
Using a particular combination of buttons, you can force your Galaxy S10, S10 plus, and the S10e to restart the system. Here’s how to do this.
Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button simultaneously until the device screen turns off.
May need to press and hold for more than 7 seconds
It will shut down and restart automatically
If the device screen stays black and you’re unable to see if it has turned off, keep holding down the Power and Volume Down buttons until you feel a vibration.

Thank you for your answer! Unfortunately i tried to force restart with this combination but nothing has happened... it's very weird, tomorrow i will return at home and i will go in a samsung point for the check up. I will write update as soon as i will understand what happened :/
After few days the assistance told me that the cause of the problem was water (wasnt it waterproof?) so i have to change power and volume buttons. Very disappointed
Must still be at the store
same thing
I was looking for some infor. My powerbutton stopped working. The fingerprint sensor works but not the power button. I wanted to take a few shots underwater. Maybe just 10 inches underwater and this happend. Looks like its not so waterproofed. I got lucky that the device was on. It looks like if it get off there is no way to turn it on.
