6+ Power Button broken, phone off, how do I get it on? - Honor 6, 6 Plus Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So Honor 6+ my power button had been kinda stuck for a while and sometimes it would take holding it in for 20-30 seconds, but I always got it on eventually and used apps like 'Volume Power' to use the volume buttons to unlock the screen if the power button was stuck.
The key was basically to try to avoid letting the phone go off, but last weekend I'm on a plane no plug and it happens. I knew it was a matter of time before the power button simply didn't respond at all and that's what has happened. I've been pressing and holding it in hope constantly but nothing.
Phone is only 6 months old so I contact Huawei (in UK) to arrange repair. They offer me a new one but obviously I would rather my own fixed. Here's the killer - as a policy they wipe every phone that comes to their repair centre. I mean are you serious?! They send me detailed instructions on how to back my phone up before sending it out. However, obviously no instructions as to how to get the freaking thing on without the power button to back it up.
I would be hugely appreciative if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get it on without the button, even just once, and back up tons of vacation snaps and a lifetime worth of contacts. I'll try anything before I give up and send it off to them to get back blank . Thanks!

My phone(PE-TL10) is similar now. Its power button is not working. I think it's broken because I changed the region code (CHN to EU).To switch on when the phone is switched off, I connect to the PC with the data cable while the volume up key is pressed. I use the "titanium backup" application to turn off or reset the phone. I press the volume down button long to open the screen. Disgrace

Power Button Doesn't Work

My power button does not work at all. It doesn't put the phone to sleep nor can it wake it up. Holding it down doesn't even give me an option to shut it down and presumably it can't turn the phone on either.
So basically I think I just wore the button down. Now in spite of that, is there a way to reflash a new ROM without being able to turn it on using the button? I mean, if I remember the procedure correction, you just have to turn it off to take the sim card out and to put it back in. Can I forgo this step?
I mean, I am just sliding out my keyboard to wake it up but I fear if my battery ever fully runs down.
Try to Hard reset your device..
To perform a hard reset
1. Pull out the stylus.
2. With the device turned on, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons, then press the RESET button with the stylus tip.
3. Release the RESET button, but continue pressing the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons until you see this message on the screen:
This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.
4. Release the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons, then press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
Yup, didn't work. Am I boned if my phone ever turns off? Jeez, and I just received that extra battery too.
Is there a way to remap the sleep button to the PTT key?
you dont have to pull out the stylus or have the device on to do a hard reset. just turn on the device and immediately hit volume down and center. once the screen lights up you can let go then wait for the reset message and press volume up.
anyways, if you have a att fuze, take it in, its under warrenty, theyll replace it. in any case you need it fixed. you cant live your live hoping your battery will never die. you cant turn it on or flash a new rom or anything without a working power button. if you dont have att im sure you can call htc and tell them you want it fixed and theyll mail you the supplies to get it shipped. just hope you can live without it for a couple days. its youre only options if you want it working.
I came back here all excited to post that it suddenly started working but it is back to the way it was.
The phone is really old so it's just of warranty and I don't think it is worth it to have it fixed when so many other problems are wrong with it. I guess it's time to be looking at new phones.
And now the power button is working. This phone just boggles the mind, people. I'm sure it'll stop working in a couple of hours though. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Maybe a short due to rain or something? Worn down contacts?
Same power button over here.
Sorry for reply on an old article but Google won't help me. I'm havin' the same problem. Na responds on the power button neither can i do a hard reset.
Anyone has a sollution. Phone is out of warranty ...
Is it a hadware problem of something with the software. Still has the (updated) stock rom. I've tried to reflash it with this latest rom but this didn't solved the problem.
Solved (for the time being..) The button seemed to be stuck. With my fingernail I managed to 'lift' it.

[Q] Power button...stuck?

So my GS3 has been fine up until about an hour ago. It looks like the power button is somehow stuck to "on," as in, the button acts like it's always being pressed.
The physical button isn't stuck down. It clicks just fine. Here is my problem, I'm rooted with a custom recovery. I can't get into download mode to odin back to stock. whenever I press vol up to go into download mode it immediately reboots or boots the phone up.
Am I completely hosed here? If I take the battery out and put it back in it immediately powers up(hence why the power button is stuck in "on"). Also, another factor proving that the power button is always triggered as if held down is I can pop the battery in and just press vol down and home and it will launch into the initial download mode screen(press vol up to continue).
EDIT: I want to odin back to stock in order to send it in for warranty replacement.

I literally had the exact same problem yesterday and today. What I did was unscrewed the little screws holding the back plate on and this gave me more access to the power button. I popped the plastic cover of the power button off with my fingernail and proceeded to lightly press and jiggle it. This allowed for it to work temporarily which gave me time to odin back to stock and now my phone is being replaced under warranty.
Best of luck!
Have you tried massaging the button back and forth to try to loosen it? It might be easier than removing the screws to access it more. (If it works)
Literally just started happening to me yesterday also. Not quite to that extent, it randomly clicks on and the power menu jumps up over everything I do, but maybe I should return to stock before it does get stuck down. Either of you use the ZeroLemon 7000 ma/h battery and case?

Power button broken. Turn on device

Hello.
My power button is broken. The only way I know to turn the phone on is removing the battery and connecting it quickly. I could get into the stock recovery pressing vol + and connecting to the charger but I need the power button to select any option, I installed TWRP recovery but I cannot use it, the button combination is different to get into (vol + & power button).
Is there any other way to turn on or use recovery when the phone is off?
Thanks
Fastbooting it from the computer is a solution..
Fastboot is disabled in android marshmallow. Now, how can we boot the phone ?
One last resort option is to send it to Alcatel. I had issues with my power button failing and they resolved it. (FTR I was still under warranty)
I had this problem. Eventually found a video for it on YouTube. I couldn't return my phone to Alcatel as I had dropped it in the toilet ? and then taken it apart to dry it out.
If its still under warranty I would return it to Alcatel. If not then the way to turn it on is a bit of a pain at first but quite easy when you've done it a few times. You do have to take the back off your phone.
If you are happy there is a reasonable amount of charge already in it then plug it in to a charger whilst holding the volume up button (or down button I forget which!) This should start the phone in the recovery mode.
Then unplug the phone.
Then very quickly disconnect and reconnect the battery.
Phone will turn on.
Put phone back together.
Keep battery charged!

Recover data from dead/faulty Nexus 5 (power button loop)

Hi
My Nexus 5 has entered into (what I believe to be) a hardware bootloop due to a faulty power button switch. I will look into getting it fixed locally but am currently wondering if there's a way to get the phone on (disabling the power button in some way?) in order that I can recover data from the built in storage.
I realise this is unlikely as it would involve some kind of invasive hardware trick.
On the basis that my phone may never turn back on, is there any way to extract data from the built in storage at all?
try smacking it into table below the power button. Seriously If it wont help, just pop off the back cover and using a knife or something "brake" the button, and insert the usb cable while holding volume down button,. then send "fastboot reboot" command. You are going to fix the button anyway, so breaking it wont matter
I had same problem. I took phone apart and soaked button side in pure alcohol. And then some tapping and pushing the button and it started to work.
The power button getting stuck has happened a few times to me. I literally just find a wood table and give a few stiff taps to the top corner of the phone (power button facing down). Always does the trick for me.

Thanks, but I've had no luck with this 'solution'. I have tried tactically hitting my device but no luck. Have also smacked it down out of anger and no luck either.
I think there are two distinct power button failures. One where the button still works but sticks and can be unstuck (I had this on my first Nexus 5 and it was replaced by Google out of warranty) and another where the power button module fails and becomes 'always on' needing replaced.

Galaxy S6 - Cannot proceed past download mode warning screen

I have a Galaxy S6 with a faulty power button.
I took it to a Samsung Repair Centre.
After "diagnosing" the problem (which I had to pay for), I was told that the faulty power button was due to "liquid damage" (it has never been in water everything else works fine).
They said it would cost £180 to repair and would require they replace the whole motherboard.
I refused as I cannot afford that repair and would rather consult a third party shop or purchase a brand new phone.
Unfortunately, the state I received the phone back in unusable.
Before the phone was sent in, it was at least in a state where I could at least use it (providing I kept it charged and did not power it off).
Now its just stuck in a recovery mode => restart => no command (boot loop), and I cannot select an option from the recovery mode screen because the power button does not work.
I planned to flash the stock firmware to try in order to get it out of this loop, and I can get it to boot to download mode as the volume buttons and home button work fine.
However, now when I'm at the cyan warning screen it prompts me for volume up to continue.
I press volume up and nothing happens. I know that these buttons work for a fact as in recovery mode I can navigate up and down.
Any ideas whats going on? or what I should try next?
Videos of the issue
(Tinfoil theory: Did they purposefully lock down download mode after inspecting it?)
If you have time, continuously keep pressing volume up and power until it gets you into Odin. Best of luck.
We're on slightly different devices, but mine has the same defect. The power button failed overnight, it worked to start the device but afterwards, the power button became stuck in the pressed state and I couldn't lock the device (not mechanically, it is still clicky). The volume down button still worked (I don't have to hold power to force a restart because it's stuck in the pressed state), I wanted to take a look at the knox status in the download mode, it didn't respond to volume up, this means that it's dependent on not having power pressed. I somehow got the restart confirmation to show with the power button, twice, so it's not completely defective. The volume down button cycled through being stuck and non-clicky, working normally, and being stuck while being mostly clicky, like the power button, though it doesn't seem to be stuck in the pressed state. It's likely because I kept pushing Volume Down for hours in a terminal emulator. Today, it takes 5 mins of torturing Volume Down to restart the device. Eventually, it might fail completely. This device seems to be able to ignore volume up / down if those buttons are stuck and work almost completely normally.
