Sony Xperia Z3 Dual D6683: Flash to D6633 Marshmallow? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
Currently using an Xperia Z3 Dual D6683 running Lollipop 5.0.2. It's rooted with a locked bootloader. I've been waiting for ages for Sony to release the Marshmallow upgrade for this specific model, but I've heard there isn't gonna be one (dunno if it's true or not).
So I've been thinking, since the D6683 and D6633 variants of the Dual have basically the same hardware, is it possible for me to flash the D6633's Marshmallow ROM directly to this phone? Would it work fine, would it have some minor issues, or would it brick my phone? Anyone tried this yet?
Hoping for your feedback guys. Thanks a lot!

@xxiteruxx
I don't own amy of the models D6633 / D6683, but I've done some search on it and it appears that the D6683 is the Hong Kong DualSim variant if I'm not mistaken.
Therefore the difference to the D6633 would only be the radios, as the d6633 is capable of European LTE networks and the D6683 isn't (only two).
I don't want to guarantee anything, but you could try and edit the update-binary/script of a D6633 rom and match it to your model and flash away. I assume you won't get the network working, it'll error probably.
That's my guess, hope it helps.

I've just done exactly as you described (d6683 flashed with d6633 marshmallow) and haven't had any issues at all. However, this is probably because both phone's LTE bands are what my carrier is on. Others (US carriers?) haven't been so lucky.
Anyway, here's what I did on my own d6683:
1. downgraded to KK using flashtool, d6633 FTF file; loosely following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/guide-rootrecovery-how-to-root-install-t3017056
2. rooted with giefroot
3. installed Dual recovery
4. flashed MM Rom zip (d6633)
5. flashed recroot v4
6. wiped cache
Everything's been great thus far. Only snag I hit was when I got into a bootloop after I'd first downgraded - I just flashed the FTF again but made sure to wipe APP_LOGS and USERDATA.

hey @neverborn
Thanks for the tip! I did my homework and found D6683 utilizes LTE Bands 1, 3 and 7. Where I am, the carriers use LTE Bands 1, 3, 5, 7 and 41. I also checked D6633 and saw it supports those bands, except for 41 which really isn't much of a problem, I think. I'll try your method and will reply back with the results. Cheers!

Okay, was doing fine until I began rooting using giefroot. Always getting the message that my device is unrooted. Tried it 3 times, and still it failed. So, I used Kingroot instead, and was able to install Dual recovery. Now succesfully flashed MM, wiped cache and dalvik just to be sure. Rebooted successfully, but now I can't root using Recroot V4. Still trying to figure this last step out.

Okay, I'm stuck. I'm always getting this message:
"* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *

Press any key to continue . . ."
After that the phone just restarts and doesn't go to TWRP. Tried to do everything all over again, still the same thing. Any thoughts?

Finally figured out what I was doing wrong.
1. After downgrading to D6633 KK, I didn't untick "Verify Apps", that's why Giefroot failed to install SuperSU
2. This is one of those moments where you keep on kicking yourself for not figuring out the obvious. After flashing D6633 MM, I rebooted immediately, extracted Recroot V4, connected my phone to PC, and ran install.bat. That's where I keep failing. Then I read your instructions again, and you said "flashed recroot v4", not "extract". So, banged my head against the wall for being stupid, and tried everything all over again. This time FLASHING RecRoot after flashing MM.
And it worked! Successfully flashed rooted MM for D6633 on my D6683. LTE network on both of my SIMs also work the same as before. I'm now a happy camper.

Good to hear - I hope banging your head didn't hurt too much

I just wanted to share my experience updating my d6683 Lollipop to d6633 MM.
What I did was I downloaded MM ftf from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/stock-marshmallow-6-0-1-build-23-5-0-t3357509
downloaded the flash tool from this link https://depositfiles.com/files/o1qgv8a61
then flashed the phone and I'm happy that I was able to upgrade to MM without having any problems.

Now which bands can you use? Can you use lte band 20? See in the service menu.

The carriers here don't have band 20, so I'm afraid I can't answer that. What we have here that's supported by D6633 are bands 1, 3, 5 and 7.

By saying E6633 you mean the Xperia Z5 Dual? I think that's just a typo but in case it wasn't, you can't flash an Xperia Z5 Dual ROM to an Xperia Z3 Dual phone.
But in case it was a typo, then YES, flashing the D6633 ROM to the D6683 model will also change the model number in the About menu. I don't have a shot of what it says before, but here's what my About menu looks like now.

Glad to help, and happy flashing. Been using it for over a month now and no issues so far.

What I did was I downloaded MM 23.5.A.1.291 ftf from this "xperiablog.net"
downloaded the flash tool then flashed the phone and I'm happy that I was able to upgrade to Marshmallow (with STAMINA) . Everything work OK.

Sorry, I can't see it. I was able to get decent LTE speed without any problems

your z3 dual d6683 from lollipop 5.0.2 you flashed straight to MM rom for d6633? no need to flash first to kk for d6633 firmware?

I also have a D6683 and I flash MM roms for D6633. It works quite good but sometimes I have signal loss which I didn't have with stock original LP rom for D6683 (5.0)
Did anyone notice the same ? I tried to flash original LP rom amss 1, 2, fsg, system/etc/firmware folder and system/etc/customization but the second sim get disabled somehow. I can't figure why I get this disconnection and how I can use the D6683 original firmware files...

I just made a ftf file for Xperia L C2105 Version 15.0.A.2.17 UK.
It is 100 % STOCK with no changes or anything.
It will run on c2104 but you will have to skip baseband.
You may skip UNKNOWN in flashtool as well!

I want the UK one for c1204
And changing it to the UK version, I'd still be able to use my Sim card right?
And is it safe? Cause I've partially rooted my phone

Quote me next time as it is easier for me to know someone asked for an answer!
Well, in theory it should work fine as the phone has everything same except the basebands. So in flashtool, untick baseband and flash. It would surely work. I have tested different basebands on Xperia U and P and they both worked fine as long as I unticked baseband in flashtool.
This is unlocked version and thus you can flash it without any sim restrictions. (Its sim free and not under any contract)
You would be unrooted after flashing this. It is safe!

And that's good I didn't think it would be safe, but isn't there one for the c1204 itself?

I took this firmware out of my phone which is from the UK. UK uses different basebands from USA. You can not get a C2104 that will be supported by UK. However, you may flash UK firmware on your C2104 but you will need to skip baseband in FLASHTOOL
I extracted the ftf and checked the build.prop and for some reason the region is shown as US. I suppose it is better than my factory one which was from Ukraine.

***FTF*** 18.3.C.0.39 for D2303

Sony has released the 18.3.C.0.39 Firmware for Xperia M2 D2303, I have no changelog, but here is the FTF link to the generic malaysian version. Please mirror it if you can.

thanks to linuxct for mirror
May be even more rooting restrictions. Well I hope not.
No, it's just a small update.
I have problem while trying to create ftf. I downloaded Swisscom CH firmware via XperiFirm, it went ok, but after making bundle with FlashTool I get ftf file with only 49.9 MB? I included everything (no .ta files), selected phone from list, and it went ok, but size is not right. What else should I do?
I have to flash another firmware, because Sony update has left my phone without service. So I am hoping that another one will fix my problem.
My phone is Generic D2303 (unbranded, SIM free).
I've downloaded the Customized MY version of the firmware, and I'm having problems creating the FTF file as well. The process stalls when the bundle is being created, on the boot_delivery.xml file. Not quite sure what to do, can anyone else bundle the firmware?
use the latest version flashtools it will do it all no need to bundle or create it will do it for you now .you should have no problems with it .i am using latest version .
Thanks, I found it. Apparently problem was in bad download (I downloaded both 4.3 and 4.4 Swisscom CH firmwares and there was the same problem), and now I tried another firmware Vodafone DE and it seems to be ok, size is around 1 GB.
And it does not solve problem with SIM card.
Work?
It might work on a D2306 if I flash D2303 firmware and upgrade?

You can test it, maybe it might work. Other way around it works. I have flashed a firmware from D2306 on my D2303, for me it works perfect!
Works, i have installed first kitkat release in mine. After that i had a D2303 model listed in system.
I have updated my M2, too. Can't notice any changes to the previous KK Version.

Sony Xperia Z3 Root FTF Flash Network Problem!

Hello all!
I have followed this guide to Root my Canadian D6603 Bootloader Locked with Bell
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/guide-rootrecovery-how-to-root-install-t3017056
I have followed above guide and everything went well. Flashed to older FTF no problems.
Rooted with giefroot rooting tool v3, failed first attempt like most, second attempt was sucessful.
However i cannot connect to mobile network, phone calls and SMS work fine. Wifi works fine.
Things i have tried, Updated APN to Bell Standards ----------> did not work.
I have not attempted to get dual recovery yet? maybe that is why i am having issues.... is it possible to run Dual Recovery and load an updated ROM while keeping ROOT?

Lost imei Code, Help plz! :(

Hello guys,
today i flashed the new Lolipop 5.1.1 ROM via FlashTool but i lost my imei code and the 2 SIMs not working anymore and this happened to me after flashed wrong ROM, i flashed D2303 ROM and my mobile D2302 and i can't flash D2302 ROM as i get error when i try.
, please HELP me how i can fix this problem.
D2302
Official 5.1.1
any help plz ????
Just type *#06# on the dialpad.
it's appear as null there is no imei
First of all try to repair the phone with PC Companion. I have been reading in other phones the IMEI was going and coming depending on the custom kernels one was flashing. But that shouldn't be your case. If after the phone repair it still doesn't work try to flash KK again. The IMEI is ROM related so wiping the data should have little or no effect (but one never knows. Anyway the phone repair wipes it).
Do you have locked bootloader? If so it's quite weird (and bad) that the IMEI has gone. But if you're still under warranty Sony must fix/replace it for free.

As I wrote use the official PC Companion from Sony (and not Flashtool). It has an option to repair the phones. It will download itself the last firmware for your phone and flash it (you must have at least 80% of battery). Also it may happen that you need to tell the program which is your phone (D2302 I suppose, then) so be sure not to mess up on that.

Now when i try to connect the phone with the PC Companion it appear as D2303 not D2302!! I can change it from the options? Or there any way to delete this ROM?
Are you sure it is a D2302? I'd see if there is a way to check in the Sony support site which one is your exact model using the imei number. Or in the phone box, if you still have it. I think PCC does have an option to chose the model afterward. Unfortunately I can't help you more than this, I have no experience on repairing the phone in such a situation. But be sure to use the CORRECT model. That is a must.

I don't have the PC version (I am on OS X) but it should work in the same way. Disconnect the phone from USB (if connected), start PCC, go to "repair phone" and there it shows a list with all Sony's phones. Select your model (D2302) and then continue. I can't check after that because it should start downloading the ROM and I've a restricted internet quota. Still it should be just a matter of following the PCC instructions.
I read somewhere that Sony put SUS in PC Companion but I never try it, so it should work as Miche1asso said. I'll try it when I'm home.

Yes, but the thing is, if your phone doesn't boot, you can press repair select phone model, connect in flash mode, flash. Just like SUS did. And it even remember the phones that were connected to PC Companion so it's easy to choose. Good work Sony.

It didn't when I connected it in flash mode. Which has been actually a bit surprising. I never used it in full, but if it is as I think that thing can soft brick a phone instead of repairing it.

LTE and Mobile Data Not Working After Downgraded To KitKat

Hi
as I was saying in early posts.... I downgraded my M2 From Lollipop to KitKat because I did not like Lollipop at al... well but thats another history, so as I was saying I was Trying to Downgrade my M2 since A week ago but i couldnt do it, mainly because a could not get a ftf for my country,I Was thinking about using the Generic_LAM but everytime i Tried to downloaded from xperifirm i Had this message: The following Files are missing: fps.zip, proceed with caution...
So I decided to look aroung for another ftf I could use, so Looking around the forum I found the thread made by linuxct where he posted all the tfts for the m2 for JB,KK And Lollipop, so I downloaded the KitKat firmware he posted.... Firmware was Customized_US, I Used itto flash my Phone.... everything was fine until i Tried to send a message using mobile data and I noticed that the LTE and mobile data wasn working at all.
The LTE/4G Icon and the mobile data Icon does not appear on the notification bar and I cant send messages on whatsapp unless I use wifi.... So Im thinking about flashing my phone again using the generic Lam firmware but the problem is that i cant downloaded from xperifirm for the reasons I posted above...
So I was wondering if someone can help me out with this, if someone can provided with a link to download the latest Generic Lam KitKat ftf so I can flash my Phone, id be really grateful....
Thanks so much in advance
Sounds like you flashed the wrong M2 model ftf.

well, that is probably the reason... thats why Im looking for the generic firmware for Latin America, now I Could use The ftf of my provider, which is movistar Mexico, but that will mean going back as how I was before I flash my phone, with all the bloatware Movistar Installed on its firmware, which will mean that I will have less space on my device and that I Will Have to wait until they released the update, In case I wanted to install lollipop, Thats Why Im looking for the cleanest ftf out there I could find...
Any Idea where can I get that ftf?? Thanks
