Galaxy S6 ISOCELL sensor - photos overexposed - whitelish light - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Galaxy S6 with an ISOCELL sensor and some pictures are fine like the first two, but the majority come out very bright, with a whiteish light cast, like the last four.
It was a sunny hot day and the photos were snapped at 12.00 when the sun was shinning at its best. Could that be the cause ?
Overall I feel very disappointed by the ISOCELL sensor. I had a Galaxy S6 before with a Sony sensor and the photos were great.
Any thougts ?

Mine is isocell as well, it doesn't take pics like this at all. Everything is nice.
Your problem can be :
1. Dirty/Scratched lens. Clean your lens and look closely to see if there is visible scratches or not.
2. Firmware problem. Sometimes firmwares are buggy. Flash different firmware to see if it solves it or not.
3. Hardware Defect. You should return your device under warranty and get another one.

Does anyone else think that there is something wrong with these pictures ?

Yeah I do see the white effect like thing on the photos. I don't know why it happens to you tho.My device has the ISOCELL lense aswell, but the pictures are flawless. Try reflashing the stock rom again.

Tried that. Yeah. Probably something wrong with the camera.

Replaced the phone. Everything is fine now.

I had a similar problem and cleaning the lense fixed it. (I barely could see the smudges but they seemed to have caused the overexposing)

Bad Camera Quality

Why is Samsung Galaxy Edge's Camera so bad? Can we flash some software for the camera?
No complaints for me. Works as well as any camera I ever saw. Can you post pictures of how bad your pics come out? This is the one phone for me besides my Note 2 that actually has a decent low light performance
What issues are you having? Mine is great!
I have S6edge and Note Edge. Note Edge camera is not as good as S6edge, but it is still awesome.

I only have problems with breathing... It annoys sometimes, but when it takes the pictures, the quality is good (but light years from what we should expect from this smartphone)

I'm sorry for the late reply. I've experimented a little with the camera and reset it back to default. The issue is when it takes a picture indoor even during the day with quite well-lit environments I can notice that there are a lot of noise and also when it is used to take pictures of faces or even skin it is somehow very reddish. I'm not a person that is very good at taking pictures or know a lot about cameras but this is a very obvious problem as I owned a few other phones including Xiaomi Mi 4i, Redmi Note 4G, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S5 and others too where their camera does not have this kind of problem. Please advice.

Check and see how high the ISO is set to. If it's on auto, try setting it to a lower ISO setting. The pictures will be darker but less noise. Are you using the default camera app btw? Because for a long time, I was using the "DSLR" camera app since I preferred the interface but a few days ago, I decided to do a low light comparison between this app and the default one. Turns out, the DSLR looked darker and more reddish. I am now back on the default camera and it seems pretty good to me. I'm no expert but I am a photography enthusiast that regularly use a mirrorless camera.

Camera photo quality

I've just bought the GEM-702L and I'm a bit disappointed with the main camera quality, even in very good lighting. Photos of things reasonably near are OK, but general scenic shots aren't very sharp at all particularly near the edges, regardless of whether I set it to 13 MP or 6 MP. The pictures look like they're not quite properly in focus. For comparison, the same photos on the Galaxy Note 4 are much sharper, even at the same number of pixels.
What do others think of the main camera quality? Any tips for getting better results? I'd be grateful if you could post some photos you've taken so I can see if they're similar to mine in quality.
I've linked two of my own photos for comparison, both at 6 megapixels, one from the X2, and one from the Note 4.
X2: https://app.box.com/s/8jdqn7gci9sn8nvl78apjzwi90en6qrs
Note 4: https://app.box.com/s/jl7sazpavt637em04vgbww3sudkaj67l
Auto focus is the problem
No replies - maybe this is a bit of a sore point with fellow X2 owners?
Anyway after more experimentation, I've discovered that the problem seems to be with the camera auto focus - it tries to focus too close. Tapping on a different part of the picture doesn't seem to help. However, if I assign focus to the volume keys and manually focus at infinity, scenic shots come out much better. That's not ideal, but it's a simple and easy workaround and so I'm a lot happier. Unfortunately I can't change my poll vote, but if I could I'd put it up one grade from poor to good.
Camera has been very good for me. Photos are crisp and clear
The camera isn't bad in broad daylight but it's not nearly as good as the camera on my Nexus 6.
In good light today and using manual focus I took a number of photos using manual focus and I was happy with the results, unlike the ones I took with autofocus. I've got the 702L, although I wouldn't have thought the camera software and results on the 703L would be any different. I tried using Open Camera, but that didn't help and wasn't able to control the focus.
Does anyone want to share any of their photos taken with the X2?

Here's one I took on my X2 in NY on my way to a camping trip in NJ. The second one is a photo I took a minute later with my Nexus 6. The next two are two I just took in low light conditions in my office. The first one is from the X2, the second from the Nexus 6. The same for the third set of photos.

May I know how you did that? Sounds :good:
Go into the camera settings and look for the "Volume Button Function" option.
Camera Issues
So I know this is an old thread, but I love my phone but the camera just looks like crap. seems like there are bubbles on the lens itself. Anyone else have this issue?

I've never seen that. My camera in both my X2's are not bad. Here's a few I took with my 702L yesterday while looking at wedding venues. It looks like you have some kind of condensation or mold in the camera lens.

Mold might be a bit extreme, but it looks like a bad tint job on my lens, it is the only reason I've thought of getting a different phone.

S7E Camera Thread

Hi,
I was very surprised to find not one, but two S7 Edge phones available to play with at my local (albeit the biggest in my country) electronics store.
So I took a couple of store shots with the camera, if anyone is interested. Pictures are attached to this post. To me they look pretty good. Noise is very well controlled. Auto-focus was incredibly fast, I wish my Canon EOS M2 would be as fast as the Samsung.
cant wait to try this onmy family vacation to vegas
Those are some nice pics, wish they where rotated lol.
I'm going to town tomorrow to see if anywhere has one of these out on display. Would like to get a feel of one before mine is delivered next month.
I played with the edge camera at the Best Buy today and was very impressed.
I feel the best thing is that this thing is basically waterproof (30mins up to 5ft) which will result in some amazing underwater pics and videos!!

I have a very strong feeling that the lens is covered with the protective plastic. Its very easy to miss when peeling the phone. The pictures will look much better without it. Otherwise, I'm not really impressed with the pictures.

Probably not plastic that is covering the lens, but just good old regular fingerprints. Had similar issues when playing with the phones in the store, but after a good cleaning the pics were much better.
Why were you lying on the ground when you took them?
I quickly played with it as well at Best Buy, it was insanely fast! Photos looked good from my limited testing as well.

I am starting to believe that samsung made a huge drop back with the camera. It is a little odd all the user uploaded photos to have plastic cover or fingerprints. Do not try to look for excuses. Do you remember the first photos of galaxy s6 . They were all awesome. I have already pre order the galaxy s7 edge but I am thinking very seriously to cancel it. Also do you remember how fast we had camera comparisons with the s6. Now after so many days why we do not have a decent one. I will wait a few days until I see a s6 vs s7 comparison. But I am pretty sure my s6 camera will be superior.

If sammy "downgraded" the camera that would be idiotic step, they optimized it for all situations especially for low light, but that shouldn't make daylight photos worse in fact, due to large pixels it might be slightly better.
Either they have a bug with software or some of the models shipped with problematic sensors, we will find out between 8-14 March.

There are already comparisons between the S6 and S7 on here, and the S7 camera is better, and that is before post release updates which will improve it even further.

Check that thread for a number of comparisons between the S7 and other phones. It's the best of the lot.

heu it's what u see you??? Oo
I, i don't see the same on this pics: teddy bear => s6 wins, blurry face = dont' let s6 focus = normal, faces = better light s6, two ladies =>yellow filter in s7, ...
No really it's THE comparison that prove s6 is better...
If that's what you really believe you clearly have it set in your head despite evidence to the contrary. There might be some situations prior to post-release S7 updates that the S6 takes marginally better photos with both phones in auto mode (bright outdoor scenes for example), but certainly not indoors. However, I have no doubt any issues with auto mode in bright scenes on the S7 will be rectified soon enough.
Stick with the S6 would be my advice.

Plastic cover? What plastic cover? The glass of the S6 was a huge fingerprint magnet too, it's the con of using glass. That's why I went with silver, it's not as noticeable

A good comparison to the iPhone 6s https://youtu.be/s6VUPgOzGlw
Some photos I took
Here are some photos I took on my S7 Edge.
The dark bathroom photos = Note 5 (auto)
The lighter bathroom photos = S7 (auto)
The two darker ones are the light from under the door only, brighter ones is just the door cracked
The outside photos are from darkest to lightest (auto, manual 10sec shutter lower ISO, manual 10 sec shutter highest ISO)
Pics of my dog in pretty bad lighting, just a side lamp and some light from the window (auto)
Pics of the figures are in pretty good light (auto)
Since XDA compresses them, look here for the uncompressed versions.
https://goo.gl/photos/8L4ZpJDPCSq2kQKh7
Also, here is a 240fps slowmo I took of the sink - https://goo.gl/photos/8L4ZpJDPCSq2kQKh7
Edit: I'm not sure why xda uploads some sideways. Sorry about that.
Not very good... when you see even the dog pictures: noise everywhere and when we zoom, we don't see clearly the hair in the fur...

Photo lens warp

I'm starting to notice lens warp on the photos quite a bit on this phone.. anyone else?
I use my phone for work a lot and take a lot of photos of straight edge objects and it's notable warping of the image. Especially around the edges.
Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
That's called barrel distortion, and it's very common with wide-angle optics including the cameras on most smartphones. Google "barrel distortion" to find out more.
Samsung seems to have the worst of it. I have no distorting with the nexus 5x.
Front facing camera is so bad it's nearly usable.

Galaxy S8 Plus Camera over exposure

So I went from the S6 to the S8 plus and all is good apart from the camera. Any shots where there is even moderate light, it over exposes that area of the photo to the point of it being blown. I still have my S6 and it does not do this. Overall photo quality is just not quite as good as my S6. I'm using the highest quality and the auto settings on both.
Does anyone else see this or have I got a bad one?
Thanks
