Mobile radio active - email app battery drain - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I reckoned to have searched, only to find nothing really has been said of this issue since last year when apparently it was a big issue that was supposedly fixed..
So recently I've noticed my battery draining faster than usual. 3/4 SOT max and my battery needs charging.
It's down to the Samsung email app, mainly "Mobile radio active" racking up the time and draining my battery! Sometimes the email app uses more battery than my SOT.
If I had to pin point a time, it would probably be since the latest update when it happened - U1APEQ
Has anyone else experienced this? I need my emails syncing for work so can't turn it off.... but wtf is causing it :S
Edit: All stock, no root and use 4G data more than wifi.... Signal is always good.

Using Outlook now and disabled Email app from syncing anything.
Not ideal but it's OK.

My One S's data turns off by itself.

Not sure why but at night it seems my one s data shuts completely off and when I turn the screen on it it shows a triangle and no 4g icon. When I check what the triangle is it is a warning telling me data is disabled.
After a couple seconds it comes on and emails are synced and notifications come in. Not sure what is causing this but it is annoying. It happens while plugged in or not. I have not found any settings that are power related and I run no software to control data in this way. Does anyone else have this issue?

Does it happen late at night? Do you have always-on mobile data turned on?

Mine did that when it was stock, every night just after 12:00pm data would switch off, I also looked around settings but found nothing, i'm sure its some sort of power saving feature..
Rooting and custom rom seems to be the only way to stop this.
It is called "smart sync" and it is a piece of crap from HTC. It turns off data between 0:00 and 7:00. Try smart sync disabler from Google Play as a workaround. Unless you're using something different than stock rom, you have to live with it (using smart sync disabler).
I'm stock, unrooted and have never ever lost data.

Yep, use the xda user application from the app store and it will solve your problem!

PM the developer of the app on XDA.
I tried this but he does not answer since a few days.
Yes it seems like midnight and randomly during the night. Really is stupid as almost everyone keeps these power hungry phones plugged in at night.
So far this is the only phone I have not rooted yet. I wanted to wait for devs to get rolling.
I will give this app a try and report back.
Thank you! This was really frustrating me. Emails and Google chat would not work and missed things due to no data till the morning. Maybe HTC should change it to cut to edge if its that important that way stuff keeps in sync.

Well I donated for the app and it seems to have worked. The test will be tonight too. So far so good.
Also I'm tmo stock.

HTC Desire Mobile Data Issues
My HTC Desire is around 4 years old and has begun doing some crazy things.
It is stock, unrooted but has an update.
Android 2.3.3
Kernal: 2.6.35.10-g3f43272
Build Number: 3.14.405.1
Issues:
1. So when I'm typing with the keyboard, the keyboard would randomly close, and I'd have to open it up again to continue typing. I do not get an error message or anything, it just disappears in mid type.
2. When I remove the battery for just a second or 2, the clock and date settings go to 2am and 1 January 1980. Surely there is an onboard battery that keeps the date/time settings current? But the other crazy thing is tht iven if the phone is connected to mobile data or the wifi to sync the date and time, it doesn't, I have to reset it manually.
3. The mobile data will randomly turn off. I use my phone as a mobile hot spot and it is very annoying when the mobile data randomly turns off.
Does anyone have any solutions for these?

Confirmed: Hangouts is a major battery drain

Confirmation: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/hangouts/PiCHREJIGmU
Hangouts is majorly draining battery, not only the app itself, but cause Android System/OS draining battery aswell on my Note 3 SM-N900W8.
I thought all this time it was samsungs 4.4 update that was killy my battery, but it was Hangouts the culprit.
Solution: Either remove Hangouts or go back to the original version that came with the Note 3 (version 2.0.2). You'll see much more battery improvement if you've been having problems, remove auto-update for the app. Apparently a new version will come out soon to address this issue.

No Wonder why my SM-N900 didn't experience thisbattery drain issue, because at first setup or just factory reset, or flashing new firmware, I always disable this hangout for permanent and use standard sms feature. I permanetly disable that hangouts on my XXUDND2 firmware. Until now my N900 run smoothly with low battery consumption ( with root of course ). Thank You guys for finding this problem.
Salute for all android experts. :good:
Thank you for this. I just upgraded to KitKat this morning and have noticed a crazy battery drain. I downgraded Hangouts to 2.02. Lets see if that helps.
I don't have this issue on NE6 fwiw
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
For me is main batt drain: system android. Trying turn off hangouts didnt help my batt drain after kitkat update.
I'm using it as my default SMS app since I bought the phone almost 2 months ago. I never noticed the battery drain you're mentioning, not on jb and not on kitkat. I've never even seen the app being mentioned in the battery consumption menu.
Media server has kept my phone awake for hours on end and raped me but never hangouts.

All Google app drains battery when it works in background
Google should optimise battery use on there app
That explains why I never saw it. Disabled Hangouts the moment I first started the phone.

Severe Battery Drain Issues - Any Help?

Hey guys,
My M8 has severe battery drain issues. It went from 85 percent batter to about 25 percent in the course of 2 and 1/2 hours and all I've done is sent a few texts. It's been like this since I bought it two days ago, right out of the box. I've flashed Android Revolution Rom and that didnt help.
Settings, apps, running, and see what's running. Install wake lock detector and greenify. Let wake lock run a while and greenify the bad apps. You can also go into app permissions and deny a good many wakeups but you have to pick and choose cause you can prevent the app from working.
Also choose a governor other than interactive, like on demand and noop or sio for scheduler.
Also turn off WiFi and anything else if your not using it, location especially.
Good luck.

Could your other posts about converting to AT&T or needing a VZW radio zip have anything to do with this? If you flashed something incompatible, there is a pretty good chance that's causing your battery issue.
"I figured it out. For anyone else out there that has a Verizon M8 and are using it on AT&T, you can convert your phone to the AT&T variant. I'm getting LTE but not constantly, it switches between LTE and HSDPA but it's staying mostly on LTE. Yay!"
If your signal is bouncing around, that will kill your battery.

It was like that out of the box before any modifications actually. The first day I got it I charged it up and it drained to zero within about 4 hours. The second day same thing. I have to charge 3 times per day just to get through a whole day. And that was before I even rooted, did S-off, unlocked bootloader or flashed any roms. After having it for a couple of days I converted it to an international device to get lte (which I'm getting) and the battery is the same as before I did anything. No change. Drain drain drain. It also charges very slowly about 4 to 5 hours to go from zero to 100 percent. I've even tried turning the mobile data completely off and connecting to my wifi at home and even with mobile data completely off it drains the exact same. I think my unit is defective.
If it did that from the beginning, I would bet on a hardware issue. I don't get battery life that bad even with heavy internet use and streaming on WiFi.

Thanks. I ended up exchanging it for a new one and the new is fine. I get a full day with heavy use. Yeah the other one it was really crazy. I would have to charge 3 times a day, it was insane.

[Q] Is it possible to turn of Volte?

Looking to hopefully fix this cell standby battery drain. Is it possible to turn off volte on Verizon S6?
thanks
Settings then advanced calling.
Turning it off will not help. This is a known issue.
What has worked for me is turning advanced calling off, wiped cache, turned advanced calling back on.
One time I forgot to turn volte back on and I still had the drain until I turned it on.
Let me know your results. I had to get a replacement because nothing stopped the drain on my first s6
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
So I followed your advice for advanced calling and my phone is at 95% and cell standby shows 1%. Is this good?
Give it a day and post your battery stats with info on how long you were on wifi. Way too small of a sample size here to determine
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
Will do. But where can I get the WiFi stats?
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
That's just your estimate.
Ex: out of my total 24 hours I was on wifi for about 20.
I don't know if there's a way to know exactly how long you were connected to wifi unless you turn it off every time you leave where you are on wifi.
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
So I my phones at 14% are 7hrs 16mins on battery. I was on wifi probably about 75% of the time. my cell standby is at 15%. Stats in the screen show.
Is this bad?
For reference... Almost 100% WiFi today, 50% left battery power.. Mostly phone calls today, and doing some reference look ups. I don't play games on my phone.
Having cell standby at 15% on mine. Is that to high? I was doing a lot of data transfer today over wifi. Coping files to my google drive.

Yes your standby is too high. Have you done the workaround? Also what was your sot
Here's what I've been getting
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
When you say workaround, do you mean wipe cache then turn on advanced calling.? I've done that and also factory reset and then the advanced calling again.
Anything else to try.
thanks

Time for a replacement device

Bummer. So does the cell standby increase usually when on wifi most of the time?
Also, I;m rooted and I know I need to unroot before going to version, but should I unroot before calling thier tech support?

Most people experience it while on wifi. Some people have reported they still get the drain while not on wifi.
I never call tech support. I always walk into a corporate store. On this occasion I said I have terrible battery drain. Told them quickly it was before and after the OTA, tried a couple workarounds I found on xda. No questions asked and they ordered my replacement. Took him longer to make a minor account change (changed first name from David to Dave) than the replacement process took.

sounds good. I'll flash back to stock and head to verizon.

Are folks with the cell standby issue that return the phone for a new one, not seeing the issue. I guess it's a crap shoot if you get one that doesn't have the issue....right?
Just wondering if this will ever be resolved.
thanks again

Huge battery eating when cell connected (Not data) - MM fw.163

Hello.
I don't know why, but since I bird this phone I got huge problems with battery life. Since the phone was LP-powered, it was hard to get more than 2h when using normally. Now I'm on MM, and with both Stock and Custom (RomAur) roms I can't get more than 3h. But the thing is, if I go into Airplane mode, my phone gets really good in battery. But if I only turn the data off, it still drain the battery...
I've heard of something called "fast dormancy" by another thread. Is it the problem ?
What should I do ?
Thanks in advance. Daniel aka. _cab13_
what I do before is I set my network type to GSM if I am not using the phone for internet (like if I am on wifi). try to see if this helps.
I think your problem has something to do with mobile radio active bug.
No it is not. Radio active bug is related to Data. But data is not the problem. It's cell and calls connection. If I turn my data off, it still eats battery, but if I start Airplane mode, it's okay
Sent from my Sony E6653 using XDA Labs
I installed BBS and it shows me that PowerManagerService.Display and PowerManagerService.WakeLocks are the most eating wakelocks...
Any idea ?
