[Q] Is it possible to turn of Volte? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

Looking to hopefully fix this cell standby battery drain. Is it possible to turn off volte on Verizon S6?
thanks

Settings then advanced calling.
Turning it off will not help. This is a known issue.
What has worked for me is turning advanced calling off, wiped cache, turned advanced calling back on.
One time I forgot to turn volte back on and I still had the drain until I turned it on.
Let me know your results. I had to get a replacement because nothing stopped the drain on my first s6

So I followed your advice for advanced calling and my phone is at 95% and cell standby shows 1%. Is this good?

Give it a day and post your battery stats with info on how long you were on wifi. Way too small of a sample size here to determine
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Will do. But where can I get the WiFi stats?
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

That's just your estimate.
Ex: out of my total 24 hours I was on wifi for about 20.
I don't know if there's a way to know exactly how long you were connected to wifi unless you turn it off every time you leave where you are on wifi.
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

So I my phones at 14% are 7hrs 16mins on battery. I was on wifi probably about 75% of the time. my cell standby is at 15%. Stats in the screen show.
Is this bad?

For reference... Almost 100% WiFi today, 50% left battery power.. Mostly phone calls today, and doing some reference look ups. I don't play games on my phone.

Having cell standby at 15% on mine. Is that to high? I was doing a lot of data transfer today over wifi. Coping files to my google drive.

Yes your standby is too high. Have you done the workaround? Also what was your sot
Here's what I've been getting
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

When you say workaround, do you mean wipe cache then turn on advanced calling.? I've done that and also factory reset and then the advanced calling again.
Anything else to try.
thanks

Bummer. So does the cell standby increase usually when on wifi most of the time?
Also, I;m rooted and I know I need to unroot before going to version, but should I unroot before calling thier tech support?

Most people experience it while on wifi. Some people have reported they still get the drain while not on wifi.
I never call tech support. I always walk into a corporate store. On this occasion I said I have terrible battery drain. Told them quickly it was before and after the OTA, tried a couple workarounds I found on xda. No questions asked and they ordered my replacement. Took him longer to make a minor account change (changed first name from David to Dave) than the replacement process took.

sounds good. I'll flash back to stock and head to verizon.

Are folks with the cell standby issue that return the phone for a new one, not seeing the issue. I guess it's a crap shoot if you get one that doesn't have the issue....right?
Just wondering if this will ever be resolved.
thanks again

Unfixable huge battery drain

Hey fellows s3 owners,
I have a huge battery drain problem when I'm at school. My battery plummets insanely. The signal isn't too good, but my battery stats show that the signal isnt the main issue. Its consistently either android os or android system draining it, I don't know what it is doing and have been through multiple s3s and no fix. All my friends have the same issue. I'm on stock unrooted and locked. The only thing to do is airplane mode it all day everyday and I really need signal to get through the day for obvious reasons. I need a fix to this issue, and it is a huge problem. ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED GREATLY AND I WILL CONSIDER DONATIONS!:good:
Attached are screenshots from BBS and the stock battery stats in the settings
Thank you!

Don't see screen shots on tapatalk but if u r saying airplane mode fixes the battery drain then u already solved ur problem Cuz it sounds like the os is killing the battery trying to get a good signal so only way to fix is a) try flashing a different modem to get good signal at school or b) switch to a carrier that's gets service there

Search for modems for or device and flash a different one each day til u find one that gives u better service there should be a modems thread in ur device sub forum with instructions and u can ask there if anyone in or area using which to get best service but generally modems r a trail and error to see which works bestv

Do you keep it in 4g? If so use a app like phone info and throw it into 3g only and see how it does (cdma auto prl)

★ Saving battery life in areas with no coverage? ★

This has been a long time problem for me every since the OG Droid days. I go to school, 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, and at the end of the day its at 30% due to the sh*tty reception at my school. I've tried multiple things such as installing JuiceDefender (currently still using), DS Battery Saver, etc...to have data turned off as well as wifi when the phone is idle. If I keep my phone idle for lets say, 2 hours its already at 70-80% whereas if I do the same at my house with full 4g coverage and turning off data when not in use/wifi, its in the 90% range. Can anyone tell me as to what I can do to achieve that I am supposed to get with these apps other than turning on airplane mode?
Note: I have betterbatterystats to check for wakelocks and there seems to be none.

I have the same problem, luckily this only happens inside particular buildings for me, but airplane mode is the only thing that will work.
Juice defender manages your data connection, this is different, it shows under better battery stats as "no data connection" only thing you can do is try different radios, maybe mb1 would work better over mf1 or vice versa.
Also if you're running an AOSP rom, switching to touchwiz might help you significantly.

I am on touchwiz because of good stability and generally better battery life but it doesn't apply to when I'm in areas with poor reception. The thing I hate about airplane mode is either I forget, and I can't receive calls or anything unless I remember to turn it back off

It is annoying, you'd make a lot of money developing an app that automatically toggled airplane mode in areas of poor signal and off in areas of good signal. I'd buy it.
Touchwiz and radio change is all you can really do.

Using GeoFencing in NFC Task Launcher, could provide a possible solution, at least when you're at school. Use it to automatically turn on Airplane Mode when you arrive and turn it off when you leave.

Go grab Tasker. You will thank me later. You can set up a task to turn on airplane mode based on location . So when you arrive at school you go in airplane mode. You could then add another event to turn off airplane mode at specific intervals like lunch time and when school ends. Or even every 2 hours to receive email and text messages. I don't think you could turn airplane mode back off based on location (when you leave school) since you would need GPS but you can set it for the time that school ends (I.e 3:00)

Tasker I agree is brilliant. I also use it for school. I didn't set it based on location though. Instead, I have it set to signal strength between 0,1 and then i give it a 2min delay and then turn on airplane mode while keeping wifi on. Then wait 30min and then disable airplane mode so it can check for signal strength. If it is still bad, keep it in airplane mode; otherwise jump back to the step where you go to airplane mode. It works miracles for my battery.

You are welcome. It does have a learning curve. There's plenty of guides to using the app. In fact you can go to their website via the app and they have a list of probably a hundred different preconfigured tasks to download and import. So what you looking for may already have been made and you can just download it from the wiki.

Why wouldn't GPS be available. He said he had a weak phone signal, which has nothing at all to do with the GPS. Also why spend $6.99 for Tasker when you can do the same thing with NFC Task Manger without the steep learning curve that comes with Tasker.

You're not wrong some phones do turn off GPS in Airplane mode. However, when you enter location you set up NFC Task Launcher to 1. Turn on Airplane mode 2. Turn on GPS. When leaving: 1. Turn off Airplane Mode. Pretty straight forward.

Severe Battery Drain Issues - Any Help?

Hey guys,
My M8 has severe battery drain issues. It went from 85 percent batter to about 25 percent in the course of 2 and 1/2 hours and all I've done is sent a few texts. It's been like this since I bought it two days ago, right out of the box. I've flashed Android Revolution Rom and that didnt help.
Settings, apps, running, and see what's running. Install wake lock detector and greenify. Let wake lock run a while and greenify the bad apps. You can also go into app permissions and deny a good many wakeups but you have to pick and choose cause you can prevent the app from working.
Also choose a governor other than interactive, like on demand and noop or sio for scheduler.
Also turn off WiFi and anything else if your not using it, location especially.
Good luck.
HTC One M8 powered by SinLess Audiophile v3.5.5/Elite Lunar 3.4.0
Could your other posts about converting to AT&T or needing a VZW radio zip have anything to do with this? If you flashed something incompatible, there is a pretty good chance that's causing your battery issue.
"I figured it out. For anyone else out there that has a Verizon M8 and are using it on AT&T, you can convert your phone to the AT&T variant. I'm getting LTE but not constantly, it switches between LTE and HSDPA but it's staying mostly on LTE. Yay!"
If your signal is bouncing around, that will kill your battery.

It was like that out of the box before any modifications actually. The first day I got it I charged it up and it drained to zero within about 4 hours. The second day same thing. I have to charge 3 times per day just to get through a whole day. And that was before I even rooted, did S-off, unlocked bootloader or flashed any roms. After having it for a couple of days I converted it to an international device to get lte (which I'm getting) and the battery is the same as before I did anything. No change. Drain drain drain. It also charges very slowly about 4 to 5 hours to go from zero to 100 percent. I've even tried turning the mobile data completely off and connecting to my wifi at home and even with mobile data completely off it drains the exact same. I think my unit is defective.
If it did that from the beginning, I would bet on a hardware issue. I don't get battery life that bad even with heavy internet use and streaming on WiFi.

Thanks. I ended up exchanging it for a new one and the new is fine. I get a full day with heavy use. Yeah the other one it was really crazy. I would have to charge 3 times a day, it was insane.

Let's see this update already.

Cell standby drain while on WiFi is driving me nuts, poor data handling is driving me nuts, and weak bluetooth? Really? The only time I can achieve decent battery is off WiFi and that's ridiculous. So many fundamental issues that shouldn't be occurring on a brand new smart phone in 2015.I really thought I was going to become a Samsung convert, but this is unacceptable IMO. Also not to mention all the banter between Samsung and Verizon blaming one another makes me believe that an update isnt even close. Has anyone heard any news recently? My patience is wearing thin.

I fixed my cell standby with a factory reset. It's 2nd behind android system for me. WiFi stays on all the times. Haven't had a problem with my battery since the reset.

I'm not sure which helped me more on the standby drain, enabling VoLTE or a factory reset. They both seemed to contribute. I'm with you on the weak bluetooth. Not really sure what would be the fix there...routing higher mA to bluetooth radio? Idk honestly, just asking the question.
Dumb question perhaps, but if I use a backup app like Helium, then do a factory reset, would restoring everything from Helium defeat the purpose of the reset since I'm potentially restoring something buggy?

my cell standby is much less on my replacement unit and staying below android system but my release day unit it stayed on top all the time unless wifi was off.
still looking for a software update though.
it would be nice if there were updates for things that Sammy could just push versus waiting for Verizon approval. i have a Windows Sammy on Verizon for example that received the 8.0 to 8.1 update from Microsoft in Aug of 2014 and after every other carriers released it before 2015 the Verizon update came in March of 2015. crazy
I just tried a factory reset thinking maybe the issues were because I had so many apps disabled. But I'm still getting high cell standby. Question does everyone have HD voice on or off? And are you on global mode?

i also have a lot of apps disabled. i'm on global with HD voice off because with it on, i get terrible call quality. i'm surprised people don't notice this.
but anyway, i never use wifi so i don't notice the cell standy issue. however, for the first 5 days of owning the phone, i didn't have a SIM card in it so i was on wifi 100% of the time. there was never any battery drain issue. in fact, i had terrific battery life, going on almost 6 hours of SOT. now after putting in the SIM and being on LTE 100% of the time, SOT is a little over 4 hours only. still decent, but wifi was much better and had no battery drain issues.

Count me as another who gets and notices the quality issue. I had Advanced Calling on for the call + 4G data option; but, come to think of it, it's not worth it.

HORRIBLE battery life after November 16 update.

Hey all
I have a Sprint Galaxy S 6 that I just updated with an update that claimed to be to improve "battery drain".
It is losing 13% in a half hour without using the phone.
I have no apps running.
I go to settings and it seems that Google Play services is always the one that uses most of the battery.
I never got great battery life but this update seemed to make it worse.
Am I missing something big???
Any advise would be appreciated.

Probably your phone won't go into deepsleep. This is caused by wakelocks and alarms. You can fix this by rooting your phone and install powernap or factory resetting your phone & start all over again.

I would rather not root my phone... I did it with my last three phones and was more trouble than it was worth for me. The phone has all of the features that I like and I don't have a need to flash ROMS.
Any other suggestions?

In that case factory reset your phone, this will delete all of your apps and data so also the wakelocks and alarms. From then your phone will go into deepsleep and you won't lose so much juice when you don't use the phone
Hi, I'm also having battery life issues. I've factory formatted from recovery menu, but I still get battery issues. I charge my phone about 3 times a day and I don't have any significant drain according to the battery usage settings.

The same here. I have everything okay according to battery stats. But I lose like 5-8% an hour when screen doesn't work. Don't know what to do.
I basically surf the net and use WhatsApp. By early afternoon, I'm down to 60% battery. I unplug my charger at 6am everyday.
