Does somebody working on root for the MM Flex 2 ?
I don't work on it. I know how, but I have exams and don't want to root my phone. (I rooted H955 with some guys)
But here should a Tutorial somewhere in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/development/lg-g-flex-2-ls996-zv6-sprint-5-1-1-t3169212
Good luck

Actually there is no known way to root Android 6.0 without hacking the boot image (kernel ramdisk). And you cannot hack the boot image on the Flex 2 due to locked bootloader. System partition is mounted read-only and you cannot remount it in read-write mode after boot time. Trust me, it's a dead end...
Maybe we could mount a hacked system image, though, with some modifications already included (ad-blocking hosts file, modified thermal config, etc). It could possibly work, but it could not if system integity is checked at boot time. Someone shoud try...
No there is no way without open bootloader.... Even the more popular LG G4 (US) has no chance of rooting on Marshmallow, because of it locked bootloader.

You don't say MM is 6.0 and I made the root for H955, so do you think I'm already working on it? I forgot only the read-only System, but in the thread is a tutorial "how to insert root in image"
Interesting, I did not know MM brought that kind of change on the security-side of things.
Well, I guess I can stop constantly checking for MM on H950... root is much more valuable to me.
I visited LG G4 forum and saw a lot of rooted MM ROM........because some variants bootloader unlocked?

ok ill explain the best i can for you.
Lets say for example that the bootloader was unlocked for the flex 2, if we downgraded with the current method that I did, then youll end up with a brick BECAUSE...after the 5.1.1 update, the bootloader was also updated, but if we had an unlocked bootloader, it would be no problem because then you can get right into fastboot since the bootloader is unlocked. however the reason my flex 2 bricked was because you cant downgrade bootloaders unless there is a specific way to do so, and if its unlocked...well since mine wasnt on the flex 2, when i flashed the TOT from ZV5 OVER a ZV6 bootloader, the rest of the partitions flashed, except for the bootloader end of it because it returned a "Version on phone is currently newer than the one being flashed" and declined the flash, since ZV5 wasnt build around the ZV6 bootloader, it doesnt know how or what to boot..
thats just a simple version, going into specifics is the Devs department, but in lamen terms, thats whats going on..if we had an unlocked bootloader it wouldnt be an issue because we could flash an older bootloader without the phone rejecting it. but once root is achieved on 5.1.1 then there will be a way to restore the FLex 2, the G3 you have although it may not have an unlocked bootloader, its been out for long enough to where exploits have been discovered, but if youre referring to upgrading and downgrading on Custom Roms, thats not the same thing, its only for official TOT's and KDZs or Official LG Firmware.
it would be like trying to flash a sprint variant with a tmobile rom....its just not built for it, its like having a Ford mustang with a V6 and trying to put a V8 motor in it without changing the computer/wire harness etc. it will fit...but it just wont work.
did that help for you to understand?

Ya i understand that part... Ive dealt with bricked phones... Ive recovered all but one.... Why are some able to downgrade though... In another thread soomeones says hes gone back aand forth a couplw times... Thats why i was confused..
So there's no way to root the Sprint lg g flex 2 (ls996) once it's on 5.1.1? Because we can't downgrade right? Wish I knew this before I bought one off Swappa.

Hello Folks
This morning I noticed, Tmobile pushed a 60mb update to my phone. I am rooted and unlocked but not on a custom rom.
Please advice what I need to do.
Thanks in advance

Is there any issuse with the update
I have not updated. As I mentioned I am rooted and unlocked. Not sure what to do hence posted my question in the forum.
I do not want to lock the bootloader. Just curious to see what others who might have got this update are doing about it.

1. You don't have to worry about lock bootloader
2. Which Software version are you running? v10e, v10i or v10j?
3. If you update there is a way to downgrade cuz we have previews KDZ's
I am running version 10i,
I am guessing tmobile wants to upgrade me to v10j. Is there a flash able version for 10j that I can use?
Thanks

dummy you can't update that way you must remove all traces of root which the app can't do use the KDZ
If you are rooted and it says system update DO NOT INSTALL IT... it will brick your phone

I had to make an insurance claim on my AT&T G3 recently and they sent me a G4 Android 6.0 / h81020n, build MRA58k. From what I understand, there's no way to root it and many don't expect there will be for a while...is that right? If so, what are my best options to downgrade and then root it? It's my only phone, and though I'm extremely competent with this stuff, I need to be sure it's a surefire method of downgrading. Thanks

As of now, I'm going to be bold with my statement about the G4: The AT&T cannot and will not ever have an unlocked bootloader. I would also assert the likelihood of root on Marshmallow is slim to none. I'd say "none", except there's always a remote chance that someone with the time/money/know-how will decide not to give up until they've figured it out.
When you say "downgrading", I presume you mean going back to a previous build? If so, it is not possible. It would require the level of access that only an unlocked bootloader could provide, from what I understand. I think there was mention of some sort of bypass option that works on other devices, but it doesn't work with this one.
Long story short: get comfortable with your current experience, because it isn't likely to ever change with this device. I too had to replace my device under warranty (for the 2nd time), and was bummed when the replacement arrived having Marshmallow on it.

I have not been able to downgrade H81020n since I got a replacement phone due to the infamous bootloop issue. I'm starting to wonder if somehow AT&T with or without support of LGE figured out which phones were rooted and injected some network packets to stress the radios in this device causing failures.
What's really unfortunate is the replacement devices all come with Marshmallow 6.0 on the H81020n ROM. That locked-down image, with the locked bootloader have made this device much less fun.
I've tried several downgrade paths with no success; the low-effort Root method, TOT downgrades with the LG flash utility, and good old fashioned send_commands.exe for image restoration to stock.

This has already discussed in other posts here BUT I continue to see A LOT of people waiting for Nougat OTA like Santa Claus should bring to them... (or, even worse, trying to push it in their phones... )
So, I make this post just to give more visibility to all...
I'll try to write it clear...
Don't update your Z to Nougat by OTA!
Is it clear enough?
Now some explainations...
Over the the common generic motivations (difficulties when not in full stock conditions, risk to brick it during process, OTAs that are the Evil... ), there is a strong one in this case: Nougat OTA for Moto Z (silently...) upgrades your bootloader too, from v. 90.xx to v. 91.xx...
This isn't really needed (Nougat runs flawlessly on v.90.xx too... ) BUT it introduces some tighter rules on what you can and what you can't anymore boot on it, limiting hacking and upgrading (to developed third part ROMs...) possibilities...
One of this rules is that with v. 91.xx bootloader you can't anymore boot to MM ROM!
Considering that as of today it seems that bootloader can't be donwgraded (some have soft/hard bricked their Z trying to downgrade it...), Nougat upgrade by OTA is a one way process.
If you consider that stock Nougat seems to have some bugs and issues (and, as of today, no Xposed available...!) and that some (all?) third part Nougat ROMs requires "MM" (v. 90.xx) bootloader to work, it seems not to be a great idea leave that Motorola upgrades silently your bootloader...
So?
So, at present, the best method (IMHO...) to upgrade to Nougat is that one which is described in OP of this thread: you will have a full stock Nougat BUT with older bootloader and the possibility to easily return to MM or to whatever ROM you want...
I already did nougat via ota for my moto z droid... Does this affect anything? Also how do i flash a factory nougat on my moto z droid if i want to stsrt fresh?

Considering we on the Moto Z droid don't have an unlockable bootloader and/or ability to root I don't see it effecting you negatively, other than an exploit that may be discovered for marshmallow that would allow for root. We are at the mercy of a kind developer taking on the task. I really miss my hotspot without a fee... But I can go back to my Moto X if it is necessary.

I agree with dap... proposed solution can't be used since of unlocked bootloader, BUT if I had a Droid I would have remained sticky to first SW release as long as possible because of the higher probabilities of a flaw to hack and root it...
With Nougat and newer (even more "locked"...) bootloader it will be harder...
those are a lot of steps... is there a way to just hide the nag/update screen that pops up? it keeps wanting to update or ask for a time to update or reminds me to update etc

HI,
can anyone suggest which android 7 update is to be used for UAE users and how to install manually ?

You can't. The only thing you *can* do is tap the "Later" and then "Done" buttons. That will defer it for another 24 hours since it automatically fills in the phone's current time for the next check.
It's annoying, but it's only once a day.
EDIT: I thought you were referring to the VZW variant. If you're not and your phone is rooted, you might be able to disable or remove "Motorola Update Services". To do so, go to Settings > Apps > select "Show system" from menu (3 dots at top right) > scroll down and tap "Motorola Update Services"
I can't disable it on my VZW unit, but you might be able to. Or maybe you can remove the app via root (though I have no idea if that will cause further problems).
I too can confirm thr disabling motoservice in settings method. But you have to do it everytime you reboot your phone, it does t hurt me doing that.
I found a simple fix, get Titanium Backup and freeze that crap app, done.

Simply use the method linked in OP. It uses retmx sw.
True, I updated via Ota and now I can not install custom roms, will in the future have a solution to this problem? Because we all know that by unlocking the bootloader we lose the warranty, but we do this because we want to have options to install on our devices.
Could any dev have managed to fix this in the future roms?

Variants doesn't matter all moto z is using same kernel source (I have Chinese moto z)
Let me explain, I'm trying to port farm-root for moto z
Here's the source : https://github.com/freddierice/farm-root
If anyone knows how to deal with ndk and other Stuffs, can install TWRP with this version of farm-root
But I'm trying to make it easier and here's big barrier called SELinux

Hope it happens. The phone (accidentally?) Downloaded the update and is now asking to install. I'm afraid one day it'll just automatically update on it's own.. I can't seem to find where the system update got downloaded to, otherwise I'd delete it
I know there are a lot of threads. I read it's impossible. But another says possible using pda file with pit info, but i can't file proper file for g920i.
Are there any workaround to dowgrade?
I googled everything, but no luck. Stuck on MM.
Mm battery is bad for me.
Can we install custom rom LP while on MM bootloader using twrp? I know that only the bootloader part cannot be downgraded. Have someone created a hacked bootloader or somehow?
Or maybe prefer upgrade to nougat? I'm afraid because i will not be able to get back to MM after that.
