Netflix not working on rooted K1 marshmallow 1.3 - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
just updated the K1 tablet to 1.3 Marshmallow. Looks all good, but Netflix stopped working. After starting a movie, it just spins forever. I already deleted the liboemcrypto.so, but that didn't help.
Any ideas on what I can do here are really appreciated.

I believe Netflix doesn't work properly on rooted devices because they're afraid you might record all the HD content and give it away to hobos.

Well, that seems to depend on the device then, because I have other devices (like my S6 phone) which are rooted and have no problem streaming Netflix content. Hmm, how can I figure this one out?

Not sure what to tell you, but Netflix does work on rooted 1.3 update for me. Have you tried uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling Netflix?

Netflix app works fine for me too, rooted with 1.3 update.

yeah, my bad. Seems like it was just the breaking bad series that was causing me trouble. Should have tried others before posting.

I followed the link, I see 3 apk files, should I install all 3?
I downloaded the new client from the Xoom forum and it's working fine for me. Had to uninstall the old one first but just watched a Deadliest Warrior with no problems.
I read that all Netflix video performance enhancers are bogus. What's different about this one?

Ya they dont do anything special i have never seen any change so i just run the stock app as now that it works fine on almost everything no reason to hack someones app as it can only piss off the people who did all the work to make it in the first place but thats just my thoughts
Can anyone who lives in Canada tell me if they can get streaming on their Transformer?
I get this little popup:
This device cannot instantly stream from Netflix in your area. Visit ca.netflix.com/NRD to see a full list of devices that instantly stream from Netflix.
Weird thing is I see people using Netflix all over Calgary.
Edit: Nevermind
To get netflix working do this:
1) Make sure you are updated to 8.6.5.9
2) Make sure you download the latest netflix package here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/07...st-phones-too/
3) Install netflix from the apk BUT DO NOT LOGIN YET (If you have already please clear the applications data.)
5) Sign up here: http://www.vpnreactor.com
6) Go on your tansformer and setup the VPN in wireless and network settings. (Pretty straightforward username password and url.)
7) Connect to the VPN
8) Login to Netflix
9) Pick any video and let it play for 15 seconds
10) Disconnect VPN
11) Reboot yout Transformer
12) Use Netflix without VPN

Didnt get to test it too much, but the one difference for me was the red Netflix startup logo.
Before, it was stretched and looked a little "chunky" (almost as if in safe mode)
Now, the "Netflix" Letters are smaller and sharper.
Ill have to try other videos, but was streaming Prison Break episode and fast forwarded/rewinded, and the buffering time was quick.
Before, it seemed to take longer.
btw. installed the first link
Netflix 1.4.0 working on my non-rooted Transformer
I was able to download, install and use Netflix (1.4.0 build) today on my Eee Pad Transformer.
My Transformer is "NOT-rooted".
My Transformer is updated to Honeycomb 3.2 version.
The only issue I have noticed is that "Search" is not working, the Search issue has already been mentioned by several others on this site.

[Q] CROMI X and Hulu+ ?

I'm sick of the laggy stock firmware on my TF300, and I'd really like to try CROMI X, but I'm concerned about streaming video services that may not work after root. I can't seem to find a definitive answer regarding Hulu+, some say it works, some say it doesn't. Are there any other streaming services (VUDU, HBO Go, and the like) that have issues with rooted devices?

Hulu+ works. Other services will depend on how they check for root. Eg., Amazon Prime works.
Amazon Prime? I thought that only worked on Kindle...

Is there a fix for chromecast mirrored feature?

i know it doesn't work for the G3. I have Xposed, wondering if there's a work around yet?
What isn't working? I have a Chromecast and the mirroring feature works on my phone.
No matter what, I can never stay away from android for long.

You need to also install the chromecast app from play store. What version is google play services on your g3?
Im using an unoffical liquidsmooth rom for my DD and chromecast works but it doesnt mirror butif i switch to the International rom everything works YouTube Netflixs screen mirroring.
Id love to get a fix for the mirroring and camera.
If you are running ART instead of Dalvik runtime it will just keep disconnecting everytime your try to cast the screen.
You have to run Dalvik in order for it to work.

1080p

Hi, I'm new here I have been trying to find a way to access 1080p content on my Nexus 5. For some strange reason, since 4.4.4 I have been unable to view content on 1080p on YouTube (I haven't tested other apps). I'm running the most up-to date version of the YouTube app.
Thing's I have tried:
Resetting phone (lol)
Downloading and installing APK for earlier build of the YouTube app
Finally I tried rooting & adjusting the build number in FX text editor from 4.4.4 to 4.4.2 which I believe has worked for others.
None of the above worked & I'm now un-rooted and I re-edited the build to 4.4.4.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for reading!
YouTube changed to 720 after a version. You have To spoof android version in buid.prop to get 1080. I think 4.4.1 but may be wrong.
No other way

its 4.4.2 you edit into the build.prop. and it works
Just tried this and no luck :/ seems strange that it works for everyone else. Definitely doing it correctly, it now shows as 4.4.2.

Thank you - issue resolved will be nice to get full use of this 1080p display!
I think they may have fixed that issue as I see 1080p option for Youtube videos now without any modifications.

Mine has also reverted back to 720p. I give up ha, I will wait for L to 'hopefully' resolve this. Though I doubt it's a priority for them lol
a couple weeks ago i did the buil prop edit and changed android version to 4.4.2 to make 1080p work...
but i reverted the change...
the very latest youtube update we got recently fixed that and now i can select 1080p on the video settings

Haha I wasn't logged into YouTube. I clicked select account, logged into my main Google account and 1080p appeared. Strange, but it works lol.
Edit: That's with no modifications to the build number. I'm back to 4.4.4 and it's working
1080p from YouTube works for me with no modifications.

[Q] TWC Television with Shield Tablet

The TWC TV app will not play live TV or On Demand. Instead of playing it just returns to the TWC app menu screen. Is this a known problem? Is there a work around?
Thanks, in advance

I'll be getting mine shortly and I'll be testing it on mine. Is yours rooted yet? The app used to have 3 issues-root detection, HDMI detection and USB debugging=on
No, it is not rooted.
They stopped with the root detection a while ago. I've been using the app on rooted devices for some time now. Hell it doesn't even complain about USB debugging being enabled anymore. As for the issue, I too am having it.
Then it's a video codec issue. That has happened on some devices. Last I checked, a 2012 Nexus 7 had the same issue despite it having the obvious power to handle this app. I noticed the TWC app didn't complain about being on my LG G Pad which is stock but rooted (hated that stupid root check anyways).
The app used to have an old issue where it would engage the video in SD (normal behavior) but then display a black screen as it tried to transition to HD. If yours is straight black, it might be something different. Try contacting TW support and see what they say (fat chance but worth a shot)
I just tested the app on my Moto X running lollipop to see if it was a 5.0 issue it complained about USB debugging but not root and worked fine. The app probably needs to be updated for the k1 soc
It also works fine on my Nexus 7 (2012) running 5.0...must be something about the Shield Tablet
The superior CPU this mediocre baseless app founded by apple can't handle the new supreme

It is also sometimes a ROM issue. I need to try my Nexus '12 again since I have a new ROM on it now. At the time I last tried it, the app would do the channel for a moment and then black out issue.
It worked fine before lollipop, after the update it force closes. Supposedly they've fixed the lollipop crash, but it didn'thhelp me. On the other hand I can use Hulu now!
