I'm sick of the laggy stock firmware on my TF300, and I'd really like to try CROMI X, but I'm concerned about streaming video services that may not work after root. I can't seem to find a definitive answer regarding Hulu+, some say it works, some say it doesn't. Are there any other streaming services (VUDU, HBO Go, and the like) that have issues with rooted devices?

Hulu+ works. Other services will depend on how they check for root. Eg., Amazon Prime works.

Hi guys, i just got my transformer and I love it but I have a little problem, HD videos in youtube app stutters!! t is not a connection problem, on my computer they play perfect, and anyway I let it load it the whole video to avoid connection problems.
The video still stutters, sometimes it plays full framerate, but the second after it is jerky!!
Anyone have the same problem?
Should I return it?
MP4 720p in video player just play fine...
PS: I also noticed i have some LCD backlight bleed problem... awwww man...
If hd flash is important it might not be the best solution.
Could wait and hope for a fix, but the tablet market is moving fast, always a risk companies will move on to the next gen product.
So far Tegra 2 + honeycomb seems not ideal, after all the hype?

Flash is not involved here, I am speaking of the official youtube app which should have no stuttering.
Anyone has the same problem??

Not got that problem. Does it still stutter for you via the browser as well?
Mine used to pause a few times when watching videos in the Youtube app but this appears to have been fixed with the latest firmware update.

Yes it does stutter even in the browser.
I will retry when I return home from work. Thanks.

No yputube app does not use flash, in fact i uninstalled FlashPlayer from tablet to be sure of that.
I have the same issue. Coming from a Xoom I noticed it almost immediately. If there is stock soon, I will go to the store and have it replaced. Otherwise I might just return it. There are things I can deal with, stuttering video is not one of them.
Better to wait for Tegra 3 devices in August ?
http://www.geek.com/articles/chips/...e-tegra-3-chip-in-tablets-by-august-20110216/
Or 4 more months after that, until 2012 and get something better! or keep waiting until 2014 and get the best one in their roadmap!

Actually once it can do 1080p high profile, I could care less what is coming out since it would be the complete package. A Tegra 3 device seems like it could be the one. Definitely selling my Transformer and getting a Tegra 3 tablet when it comes out.
I think the problem is related to the youtube app, i had a trip to a local store with an Iconia A500 and played with it a bit. It had the same problem, i doubt a replacement would do the trick. i suppose an OTA update with a revised version of the youtube app or some tweak should be enough.

If thats the case then I don't mind at all, but it's something that I'd like to know *officially*. It's not something that has to be fixed immediately, but I'd like to know that the issue lies with the app and not my hardware.
Edit: But, at the same time, I didn't think many other people were having the same issue.. ?
stuttering playback was an initially known issue with honeycomb. Like someone else mentioned though, the firmware seemed to resolve that issue. Might want to make sure you have the latest and greatest version.

ya mines the US version of the 20110423.. first thing I checked.
It just crummy because my buddy loved my Xoom, especially the Youtube app (hes got a relatively large presence on youtube) and when he went to watch one of his videos (G20 Battle of Toronto) it was stuttering. It's like it will be smooth for a few seconds then get choppy . The audio never skips a beat though.
Just noticed a flash update on the market. Don't know if it'll help you or not. Looks like its now out of beta or something. I didnt really read it all before i installed it. Version 10.2.156.12.
Edit: Bah the irony. Now I'm getting the stuttery video. I wasnt before.

I know i read somewhere that asus was working with google on it. Maybe they still havent completely ironed it out yet. Remember, its still early for honeycomb...
how do you set the youtube app to 720p? i only see an option for HD
Has anyone tried using this on their transformer? Does it work. I'm thinking it shouls because it is based on flash, unless amazon blocked it for some reason.
Has amazon cloud music worked for you too?

Netflix instant streaming doesn't use flash it uses Silverlight. That's it why it won't work on android devices without an app.

I'm sure someone will hack the APK to get it to work somehow..
I'd likely say tegra 2 has drm since netflix was using it as a baseline to help develop netflix for android tablets...
Whats odd is i can install it on my gtab running vegan tab 5.1...... its odd same chip. Maybe its the android version only 2.2 and 2.3 devices a currently compatible.

What's even most strange is that Honeycomb has DRM baked in. I'm really not sure what the holdup is on getting Netflix on Honeycomb tablets.
Got it installed no workie though. App opens little window saying not supported on the device. It did let me log in though. Tried to play something said not supported again. I imagine a log of what the app does woupd be helpfull. Maybe a spoof of an id of a supported device.
It would make sense that the app looks for some kind of verification that its a supported device....
Has to be a way to rig it.

I might take a look at the build.prop and compare some other things from the droid X and see what happens.

Nook color is running Froyo, or Gingerbread through some custom ROMs. There was a demo version of Honeycomb, tho.
Transformer runs Honeycomb. Honeycomb != Froyo/Gingerbread.
That is why.

Ya they dont do anything special i have never seen any change so i just run the stock app as now that it works fine on almost everything no reason to hack someones app as it can only piss off the people who did all the work to make it in the first place but thats just my thoughts
Can anyone who lives in Canada tell me if they can get streaming on their Transformer?
I get this little popup:
This device cannot instantly stream from Netflix in your area. Visit ca.netflix.com/NRD to see a full list of devices that instantly stream from Netflix.
Weird thing is I see people using Netflix all over Calgary.
Edit: Nevermind
To get netflix working do this:
1) Make sure you are updated to 8.6.5.9
2) Make sure you download the latest netflix package here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/07...st-phones-too/
3) Install netflix from the apk BUT DO NOT LOGIN YET (If you have already please clear the applications data.)
5) Sign up here: http://www.vpnreactor.com
6) Go on your tansformer and setup the VPN in wireless and network settings. (Pretty straightforward username password and url.)
7) Connect to the VPN
8) Login to Netflix
9) Pick any video and let it play for 15 seconds
10) Disconnect VPN
11) Reboot yout Transformer
12) Use Netflix without VPN

Didnt get to test it too much, but the one difference for me was the red Netflix startup logo.
Before, it was stretched and looked a little "chunky" (almost as if in safe mode)
Now, the "Netflix" Letters are smaller and sharper.
Ill have to try other videos, but was streaming Prison Break episode and fast forwarded/rewinded, and the buffering time was quick.
Before, it seemed to take longer.
btw. installed the first link
Netflix 1.4.0 working on my non-rooted Transformer
I was able to download, install and use Netflix (1.4.0 build) today on my Eee Pad Transformer.
My Transformer is "NOT-rooted".
My Transformer is updated to Honeycomb 3.2 version.
The only issue I have noticed is that "Search" is not working, the Search issue has already been mentioned by several others on this site.

Hi guys! When playing stuff from Netflix or Prime video they won't stream in HD, just SD.
In the information section both say HD is not supported. Even Netflix wasn't available to download from Playstore so I had to download the apk from another site.
Saying so, do you have any ideas on how to stream in HD? Do you think it's necessary to change the ROM to do that?

Before I unlocked the bootloader of my moto g8 plus, both prime video and Netflix streamed at HD. After I've done it they both only stream at 480p max. So since I only had a few days left of Netflix left that month, I cancelled my Netflix subscription. I still have prime video because I subscribed to amazon prime but I would have cancelled it too since I don't watch much tvs and movies. I only got Netflix because of a specific show it's called "Lost in space" but I find that almost everything else is blasphemous and garbage in Netflix.
If you haven't unlocked your bootloader and only getting SD quality. Maybe you need to factory reset.
Hi, due to Virus they have lowered streaming quality.

I have my bootloader unlocked, and I didn't use the phone to stream before that so... I think it must be that.
Maybe I'll try locking it again. (When I'm in the mood to backup everything because doing so wipes all your data xD). And about lost in space, yeah that's a good one. If you still have prime video and didn't watch it already you should try The expanse.
Aaaaand. Sorry, I just remembered. I used it before to stream and the quality wasn't HD... That's exactly why I unlocked the bootloader... Because I was trying to update Android or to maybe install lineage. (Both were unsuccessful).
