[Q] How to backup local contacts with their high res pictures ? - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
Since I got a android phone, I always had an issue when exporting/importing my phone contacts.
When I flash a new ROM, I'm used to export all phone contact to a .vcf file, then reimporting them after. I use the standard stock contact app feature.
BUT, after having re-importing the contacts, all the pictures contacts are systematically pixelated, and I have to set all the contacts photo again. It's very long, It takes ages.
Does somenone know the solution of that terribly boring problem ?
I know there is 2 pictures associated to each contact : one in lower resolution, used in the app, and the other in 720p resolution we can see when a contact calls us for example.
I've tried many ways to solve the problem : dump and paste the database contact in /data/data/com.contactsblablabla/databases (with, of course, reboot and chmod) and some other stuff like that.. I have explored the contacts database, but no way to find how to solve.
I'm tired of searching, 10 years android exists, there is at least one solution to this courant problem ! I've never found yet.
Any ideas ?

I asked myself the same question yesterday, did a search here and found your post.
Digged a little more, and found some app : Contacts Backup Ultimate
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=at.specsoft.contactsbackupultimate
Small, free, and it does indeed backup contacts as a XML file and a set of 720x720 (on my phone) pngs.
I haven't tried a restore yet.

Just tried another app that also does the job : Super Backup : SMS & Contacts
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
It exports a single .vcf file, with embedded 720x720 jpeg (unlike the standard Sony contact apps which exports a .vcf file with only 96x96), which can then be imported by the standard contact app.

have some problem with u, n i wasn't found any application to convert that file..
(i want migrating from winmo to android)
try this way, (sorry i can't write link in this forum coz newbie)
search on google with key "sprite mobile" (migrating contact, messaging, log call data)
it's like PIM backup on winmo
Hello,
I had solved the problem by
- deleting exchange account on winmo iphone
- setting up my gmail account as imap in winmo
- sync contacts etc. Between phone and gmail account
- using the gmail account w/ my new android device.
You can find some guides w/ a google search about how Toso configure gmail with winmo.

I just moved from WinMo to android and faced the same situation.
I first made a fresh PIM backup in case anything went sour. I setup activesync to sync with gmail (Google has a step by step tutorial that's based on WinMo 6.1 but it's fairly easy to figure out) This is where things can go sour, like doubling of contacts or appointments. If all goes well you'll have everything in your gmail account (it might take a while though).
If you have any pocket notes, and aren't synced with Outlook, you'll need to manually copy and paste them into OneNote Mobile. Then copy them to your desktop and open them in One Note.
use Sprite Mobile
i was successfuly transfer all contact and their field, messaging and call history

Or, try this.
1. Open PIM Backup on your Windows Mobile device. Select the Backup action and unselect everything but contacts, then hit Next.
2. At the "Select backup filename and folder" screen, unselect the "compress backup" and "binary backup" options, then hit Next.
3. Transfer the BACKUP.PIB file that you just made from your phone to your computer. Change the extension from .PIB to .RAR, then extract the file.
4. The extracted file should be BACKUP.CSC. Simply change the extension to .CSV and import the file to your gmail account. All your contacts can now be imported to your phone through gmail - just follow the instructions given in the phone's contact menu.
or activesync with google http://www.google.com/support/mobile...&answer=138636
Hi
As a noob to android, I wanted to ask step by step converting winmo PIM backup file to android. Which includes migrating contacts, messages, log call data etc)
Is this doable. Can any one advice. PLZ.
Thanks in advance.
Hi, i have a HTC HD2 running WM - Energy ROM and Android - Core Droid HD V0.2 and i want to use my contacts in Android.
I did as Dblfstr said, but the file i got from PIMBackup was contacts_20101206.pbc
I use PIM Backup v2.8.0.0
I did not mark "compress backup" and "binary backup" but still the file is some how binary and it shows garbage when opened by an editor.
Does somebody have another solution to this problem?
ThX!
forget about using pimbackup,i already tried everything and did nothing...
try using outlook, simply export the contacts to CSV and import them in google
or send them via bluetooth (for those who have 2 devices)
there were quite a few contacts that were saved on my phones internal memory before i switched to android. Unaware of these contacts, and unaware of proper procedure to restore the pim backup once android was up and running. I created the standard backup with compression enabled and all default specifications. Can I restore the contacts with the default pimbackup method?
thanks

I have the same problem in that I didn't know about the compression. Is there any way to uncompress and will I be able to restore text messages as I'm not really worried about call logs, emails and contacts?
EDIT: I found the solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12975806&postcount=13

Having access the files where my contacts are stored in android 2.1

Hi everyone, I want to backup my contacts and the native 2.1 contact manager has a function to export my countacts but the .vcf don't actually keep the category structure that I so painstakingly setup or the contact photos that I gathered. In the iPhone, it is a simple question of getting two sqlite files that have the contacts and images in them and substituting it in your next device. Would anyone be able to tell where I could find this files??
I'm running a root t-mobile vibrant /w bionix.
Also, please let me know if you know something more functional the stock contact manager app: ie. with proper import/export and and sync functions that retains categories and contact images.
i can't post links, to find your sqlite db files try googling:
how to poke around the sqlite3 databases
And for a better contact manager google:
komodo contacts
Generally this is done via gmail. Add the pics etc to your contacts and place them in groups via gmail then no matter what phone you use these will always be there.
You can them export them as a backup to your pc etc

[Q] Backup and Restore contacts with pics?

hello,
when i change ROM or in any other way i delete contacts from phone, and after that i restore them (i am using My Phone Explorer) it simply doesn't create contact pics i had before wiping. this is main reason why i hesitate to try out new ROMs cos each time i have to manually attach pics for my contacts. So is there a way to do this (it doesn't have to be My Phone Explorer, it can be some other program or market app)?
also another thing that bugs me is that after i sync contacts from FB with phone it gives greater priority to FB contact pics than to those of phone itself, so contacts display FB pics instead of those from phone. I know i can fix this manually but again why should i each time i flash new ROM, if there is a way to do it automaticly. So, is there a way?
thank you

[Q] NEED HELP PLS! missing contact info

Apparently kies doesn't let me open backed up contacts without a phone (all I see is music, photos, videos and podcast when i open kies no option to open .spb file). I have most of my contacts imported from google contact but apparently not all the contacts.. I dont need to convert or anything I just need to see what on the list so I can save the ones that were missing from my google contact. Is there any way I can just see the contacts? I'm using mac OSX 10.9 btw
Thanks!

[APP][4.2+] Social Contact Photo Sync

Social Contact Photo Sync
Just try this app. It allows to link local contacts with social contacts and to keep the local contacts automatically in sync with a linked social contact.
It supports:
GooglePlus
Twitter
Instagram
Facebook (only with ROOT and the original facebook app)
WhatsApp (you have to force whatsapp to download new pictures by opening a contacts picture in whatsapp, the rest is handled by the app)
Viber (still in there, actually, this is currently not really usable, you can just link a contact with a viber picture, but you can't sync with new picutures)
The app tells you in more detail, what you have to care about, if you want to automatically sync your contact pictures...
Any feedback or suggestion is appreciated.
The app is completely free, the in app purchase just removes the adds. Functionality is free
Get the app from the playstore: Social Contact Photo Sync
Guide/Tutorial: http://www.michaelflisar.com/social-contact-photo-sync-general/
how can i force the app to automatch the contct sync???
Start the batch auto sync setup dialog and click the headers of the groups (like 90 to 100% and so on, all the way down to 0 to 10% if you really want that), this will select the complete group at once. This way you can select all your contacts and use the best match as auto sync contact...
I still advice you to once look through the list and disable or correct all the wrong matches... Afterwards my advice would be to scroll through your contacts and only look at the ones withaut an auto sync contact and if you know you have this friend in one network, manually set up those contacts one by one... This is my prefered way to do it...
PS: a complete guide is online here: http://www.michaelflisar.com/social-contact-photo-sync-general/
Is there any place where I can download older versions? Becuase I wanna test if I am doing something wrong (even if I believe I do the same as earlier) or the last 2 versions are buggy in importing facebook friends via csv copy - getting error code 14.
this error code comes from using the root method normally - just change the root method of facebook to method 3, this one should work (click on the facebook card on the home screen and click setup facebook)
If you really just want to import the csv and don't have a facebook app installed and are not rooted, then just send a feedback via the app after something went wrong...

I am on Android N Preview 3 which is not working with the root method. And meawhile, I realized that the fault is mine, not the app's. I opened the csv file with a different text editor (Solid Explorer's), not with that one which I used earlier (MiXplorer's text editor) and somehow it showed in a different format I guess which I copied and the app didn't like that. I reinstalled MiXplorer, opened the csv file with it, copy paste and now it's importing fine again.

any way to avoid the dinosaur-official fb app?
Either use the non root method or just deinstall the Facebook app again after my app has imported the contacts
Opened WhatsApp image bt nothing happened.
The app says we need to manually open WhatsApp image then share it to this app then select which contact to be changed.
Sent from my XT1562 using XDA-Developers mobile app
@prom85 Could you please let me know where all the pictures are stored (exact location)?

The new WhatsApp changed in the way that there is no local image I could use anymore... so this new integration is all I can offer...

Don't know what you want to know... my app only stores the images directly in your contacts...

I am just looking for the way of removing all pictures at once. Or sync-forcing (with overwritting of old pics).

Whereever your Android contacts app does save it. Normally it's a database.
You can force my app to auto sync all contacts without checking if an image was changed though, go to general settings, click on advanced settings and click on the last entry in the dialog that pops up... afterwards an auto sync will overwrite an contacts image with an active auto sync without checking if the images has changed or not
I just purchased the pro version! I have had android for seven or eight years but never really had correct contact photos so thank you for this wonderful app. It makes it so easy. I noticed this app's logo shows the linkedin logo but syncing with the linkedin network isn't obvious to me. How can I do this?
LinkedIn is not working anymore. I had a root method that worked once, but then they changed their app and now this method is not working anymore.
Official LinkedIn integration is not possible either (via login to LinkedIn), I already tried it but they won't accept my app. As a primary business network they do not accept apps that access data in background without direct user interaction, this is against their usage rules.
I'm still getting the {"code": 403, "error_type": "OAuthForbiddenException", "error_message": "You are not a sandbox user of this client"} when trying to add Instagram. Just wanted to know if everyone else is still seeing this?

Everyone should have this error... LinkedIn changed their usage rules at 01.06.2016, so I had to submit my app again and currently am waiting for approval... I'm not sure if they will though...
I have the same error code.
