got a question, i was wondering if there is a problem with my j700M. its ram always stay at 50-80% and if its worth, i'm using a debloated deodexed rom that i got here. before i flashed the rom the same problem persists. any idea?
It's the Samsung rom.
Samsung and the touchwiz interface are notorious for being a ram hog. When the note 3 came out it had 3gb ram. Over 1.5 gb was in use by the rom. The best solution, in my opinion, is to flash a non-samsung rom when it's available. Or even a tweaked kernel.

Even if RAM always at 90% , if you don't face lags then no problem

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S Showcase(I500) Cellular South Model and I am running it on Froyo 2.2 with a voodoo kernel and I was curious to know if I can increase my internal memory/ram?
Nope, that's not possible.
Well that is technically correct, the ROM you choose will have different values associated with how much RAM it uses.
The base system RAM is not expandable, but the amount of ram available for the system will depend on the ROM you have loaded.
Hope this helps.
The RAM free room is dependent to the ROM and the installed applications.
You can not add more physical RAM, unlike by PCs.

I agree with him
I don't think you can "Increase" Physical ram, but you can decrease ram usage.

If you mean hardware upgrade (which I believe you do), the answer would be no.
If you mean have less RAM consomption, I guess that'd depend on many things such as but not limited to, ROM, kernel, UI, appKiller...
I have a 7" Galaxy Tab 2 and my understanding was that it has a Gig of RAM, but all my task management apps report a max of just under 700 megs of RAM. I know some is probably locked and reserved for the system but that seems like a lot... Anyone know where the rest has gone?

As you said, it's reserved for system, but if you find too much RAM used, you can click the clear memory button in task manager.
I was wondering the same thing for awhile I thought it was an issue with my tab because on stock my performance was vile compared to how I thought it should perform. Rooted it and flashed today and there is definately an improvement in my benchmarks.

That sounds about right to me. The default system on a lot of devices uses more RAM than you would think. Flashing to a custom rom will definitely help with that. I flashed mine to CM9 last night and I noticed a big difference in performance. I like it even more now.
I think this is a common thing for all things stock android... my JB (4.1.1) Galaxy Nexus phone (takju build) does the same thing... quite annoying really.
1gbyte but as i know the kernel reserves some memory for system use

What's the difference if it doesn't show you system reserved RAM, or it shows it to you, but it's always fully used?

it would be nice if they would put a notification or something to indicate this in the menu area as most will not know where their ram went & probably complain about false advertising or something.
This is my first experience with an Android device, but everything seems relatively straightforward so far. Basically, this is my mom's phone, and I'd like to set it up so it's as accessible and simple as possible. Are there any particular ROMs that would be well-suited for an older and less tech-inclined person?
TYIA!

Depends, I did the same for my mom with her t989. She has cm 10 but I use nova launcher to hide the apps she don't need to play with (superuser, terminal emulator). For a daily driver I would recommend a ics flavor rooted or stock. She'll still have WiFi calling and less need to worry about updates. Either way it really just depends on the person.
I would say CM 10, it is very clean and simple, has jelly bean, and almost no issues (the only one being camera flash not being able to be turned off in dark places). CM 10 also has great devs after it. To me is a much better ROM than any other jelly bean since it has no bugs. It is also much simpler than than Samsung touchwiz

jelly bean / ICS
if it's for your mom im running the Tweaked 2.2 with scorched kernel clocked at 1.72 Ghz very stable has wifi calling no bugs no random reboots ( unless both cores are OC'ed ) you can swap the storage pretty easily using the voldswap.zip here on xda ( can't think of the link ) but search it XDA ( i swapped my storage and now instead of 1.4 gigs i have 32 gigs of space internally and the actual internal becomes your external ideal for puttting apps and such on to save space on the actual device memory side and im running the HOLO launcher with 200 DPI ( dots per inch ) but if you wish to hide apps go with the NOVA launcher anyways the ICS in my opinion is decent can't use the 4.1.2 on MY personal blaze ( anyone who reads this and has seen my post on the general side of the blaze will understand that comment ) but other then that once again you choose feel em out let your mom c what she thinks etc etc have a wonderful day / night

Okay so basically what I have found out is it seems that on all custom roms the Android system is using like 1gb of ram just by itsself after about maybe 2 to 3 hours on every rom. And stock only uses like 770 or lower in that time. So based off your guys personal opinions which has better performance. That's all that matters to me.
Performance is great on both but, since stock is well optimized, it gives it the lead
Stock ROM got more inbuilt features then custom ROMs. If you want more UI customization, then custom ROMs are best. Also as much as I realised it's faster too. Moreover custom ROMs camera is nothing compared to stock EMUI.
For now, stock remains the better option if you care about camera and battery
