Activator on Androids? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hi all,
I just bought a S7 Edge International version and I am trying to figure out if there is a way to activate certain apps by pressing the home key 3 time or other methods?. I didn't root the device.
My main goal is to activate Privacy mode or hide apps before letting someone use my phone. I really don't want to use the drop down then have to toggle. Takes to long.

I replied to your other post. How often do people use your phone. Doesn't everyone have their own phone these days. I can't remember the last time someone asked to use my phone. HaHa.
For now u can always block certain apps from opening requiring fingerprint scan.
U can hide them in app drawer and use a slide in launcher to reach them quickly. Edge panel or app called swipe pad.

I actually use my phone for work and they flip the bill. There have been several times someone from work wanted to see my phone so they can look at drawling schematics on the job. I don't want them looking at my pictures of my family or going through my cloud service apps or seeing my Facebook apps which I don't use my real name. I don't even want them to know that I have these apps.
The cool thing about having a jailbroken iPhone with Protecti+ is I can hit my home button three times and it will make the apps I don't want to share disappear.
Maybe I can hide those apps on my SDCard or something.

How to add and remove files from Private Mode on the Galaxy S7
Private Mode supports several different media types including photos and videos. Follow these steps to add supported files to Private Mode:
After you enter Private Mode for the first time, a quick walkthrough will be given and you’ll need to enter a pin code. (The Pin Code will be required every time you enter Private Mode)
Turn Private Mode On. (Settings/privacy and safety)
Go to the photo or file that you want to hide and only make viewable in Private Mode.
Select the file (s) and then select on the Overflow menu button in the upper right.
Select on Move to Private.

Thanks for the instructions. I was in private mode yesterday but I wasn't walked through anything but putting a password in.
Are you able to hide apps in private mode? Is there a easier way to activate / deactivate private mode instead of hitting the toggle every time?

When activated you'll find it when swiped your hands from the top
How to disable Private Mode on Samsung Galaxy S7
Using two fingers from the top of the screen, swipe down to find a list of options.
From the list of options, select Private Mode.
Now the Galaxy S7 should go back to normal mode.
You can hide picture and files but to hide installed apps and more you’re probably going to have to resort to third-party apps, I'll recommend Hide It Pro which I've used for years. You can protect or hide individual files including media files like videos, audios, notes etc... but small plugin need to be downloaded

Thank you for information. I will checkout Hide it Pro.
Is it true wifi calling, Visual Voicemail, Samsung Pay does not work on the international s7 edge version even if I put an att rom on it?

I think true wifi calling and Visual Voicemai is a provider based as for Samsung Pay (BTU Firmware) which is UK may support it but I don't really know. You can create a new thread and someone who may have the same problem can help you

The "users" feature introduced in android lollipop (though not perfect) would solve your problem, every user has their own password and setup (they even don't share apps installed), like an user for a pc/mac, sadly samsung get rid of that feature with touchwiz

Knox (downloadable from play) should get what you want: all apps you want gets in a secure workspace and require fingerprint to be used. For photos and videos you can use private mode or some apps like keepsafe

[Q] Making the switch (from Android G2.3.4), have some questions

Hi all,
Thanks in advance for answering some questions I have.
I've watched a ton of vids, done a pretty good amount of research so far, but still have a few unanswered questions about WP7.5. I will be looking at getting a Lumia 800 as that's what my carrier is offering in Canada. I'm sick of Android being flaky due to the fragmented ecosystem and am looking forward to the 'closed' nature of WP7.5 - I just want it to work. Period.
So, on to the Qs:
Can you enable a number row over the QWERTY keys on the keyboard? Alternatively, can you long-press those keys to pop up the numbers, even if they don't show?
Can you go into the settings to force the phone app to start with the dialpad as opposed to the call log/history?
Like in Smart Keyboard on android, does the first suggested word in the suggestions when typing get auto-selected when you hit the spacebar?
Are there alternative apps for StumbleUpon or Feedly available? (I couldn't find them, but I use these 2 apps reasonably often) Suggestions for similar, if no?
Functionality of the phone in Canada vs US? (ie which functions don't work: Local Scout, Bing Vision, Music search, etc etc)
Is there any quick way to change settings without having to pin them all to your home screen?
Can you make the calendar app start with Agenda view?
Thanks, I'll add more if I think of them.
O
>> Can you enable a number row over the QWERTY keys on the keyboard? Alternatively, can you long-press those keys to pop up the numbers, even if they don't show?
There is a Key which shows up all the numbers and other characters but its not like a popup and no long press.
>>Can you go into the settings to force the phone app to start with the dialpad as opposed to the call log/history?
Nope but there are apps which are purely number pads you can use.
>>Like in Smart Keyboard on android, does the first suggested word in the suggestions when typing get auto-selected when you hit the spacebar?
No, You need to tap and select the word.
>>Are there alternative apps for StumbleUpon or Feedly available? (I couldn't find them, but I use these 2 apps reasonably often) Suggestions for similar, if no?

No Idea on then but what do you use Feedly for ?

You need to use the shortcut apps for that.

No

WRONG!
It remember the last view you were in. if you leave in agenda view, when you go back, that is the view you will see 1st.
@ROCOAFZ Never Knew that so thanks a ton for that.

Thats not true, it does auto select and use it.
Been using WP from sometime but not sure how this works if at all possible.
Like when I type HAV it shows me Have but when I hit spacebar, it does not auto complete but adds a space.

There are some words that it will auto fill in but they have to be the only possible thing you would be typing in context with the sentence. Most words have to be chosen from bar right above the text. (i like it this way)
No problem on the agenda view. Mine is always in that view so that's what i always see
1: To add to what others have said, you can tap-and-slide to add just a single number or punctuation in one motion. From the standard keyboard, put your finger down on the number/punctuation mode key, slide it to the number or punctuation you want (the keyboard will temporarily switch modes when you touch the key initially), and release. The key your finger was on (in the alternate mode) will be typed, but the keyboard will be in the original mode. Very handy.
Alternatively, you can add some registry values that will create press-and-hold options for the top keys to have numbers. I added a press-and-hold list to my comma key; sometimes it's a lot nicer than switching modes even briefly! (I use a lot of semicolons.)
3: For some reason, nobody has mentioned this yet. If the phone will auto-correct (including auto-complete), then the suggested word/completion will be bold. Pressing the Spacebar when there's a bolded suggestion will use that suggestion automatically.
If none of the suggestions are bold (because what you typed is already a valid word, or because it isn't sure what you meant to type), then you can tap on a suggestion to use it. The phone does have a setting to automatically add a space after you do this.
4: There's an app that comes up when you search for StumbleUpon, based on keyword match (it's not actually a stumbleupon app, but it targets the same kind of user). I haven't tried it (but then, I don't use SU either).
5: Vision and Music Search should both work just fine (they're not locale based at all, so far as I know). Scout... I think it works in Canada? I've never tried (I live close to the border, but not *that* close, and international data costs money so I always have it disabled). I assume Zune Pass and Directions both work as well, and those are the other two locale-sensitive features I can think of that might care.
6: Not really, but how often do you need to mess with settings? There are some apps that let you quickly reach the ones you use most often, or let you quickly reach ones that are normally a few levels deep, but no one-tap toggles yet that I'm aware of.
However, I really don't find it required to enter settings much at all. See a new WiFi network? The phone will prompt you. You'll only save a very small amount of power by leaving WiFi off when not in use; the phone is very good at putting it in a power-saving mode. I almost never need to touch any of the other settings.
Didn't notice the bold... good post ... i'm always learning something new in Windows phone

[Q] Disabling camera without rooting

Hi amigos,
I do have HTC explorer, My office have a policy on employees to use only non-camera moblie phones. So I need a solution to this,is there any app available in market to disable the camera with out rooting. I browsed in play store, and I do got an app,but it works only on ICS platform. Pls suggest me any remedy pls..
Thanks,
Viki
Without rooting, I don't think so, sorry. You can block access to the app, requiring a passcode, but if you know the passcode, then it's not really much different to having the app there normally, plus it wastes battery.
Any app available?
Thanks for the reply SifJar. Is there any app which popups an error message kinda like that, if I tap to open camera. Since the one who gonna checking all this will be the security incharge in the gates, he lacks knowledge on android and stuffs.

Actually, now that I think about it, it should be possible, yes.
There is an app called "Tasker" which allows you to run certain actions whenever certain things happen. One of the "contexts" you can set is an app being launched (e.g. the camera app). This context will then trigger a set of actions, which can include a whole variety of things from returning to the home screen to displaying a custom made popup. You could combine these two, so that whenever the camera is launched, it will return to the home screen and then display a popup saying some error.
There is a free one week trial of Tasker available here: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/download.html (any tasks you create during that first week will continue to work after this time, you just won't be able to add any more without paying for the full version, which is available in the Play Store or via the same link as the trial)
Once you install the trial, download the attached file, remove the .txt extension (put it there as XDA doesn't allow upload of XML files) and put it on your SD card in the folder "profiles" inside "Tasker" on your SD card, then import it into Tasker by long pressing on the button "profiles" at the top and then selecting "import" and then choose "Camera Disable". It is a task I made which I think should do the trick for you. If you want to edit the error message, tap on "No Access" in Tasker (should have a green arrow at it), then tap on "2. Popup" and edit the text accordingly.
EDIT: Also note that disabling the task is as simple as tapping the green tick beside it's name in Tasker, which will turn it into a red circle with a line through it to represent the task is disabled and camera can now be accessed again.
The error will also appear when launching "Camcorder".
Couldnt you get away with just hiding the camera app, that way you can easily say that you deleted it.

Guest Mode of Android L

The first time a guest mode was revealed for any android device was with the launch of LG G2 series phones. This feature was advertised so well in the media. I also bought an LG G2 at that time (not for this feature alone) as it was a great phone. I realized that a little over six months had passed and I seldom used the Guest Mode feature on the phone.
The guest mode in G2 and the one in the upcoming Android L (5.0) is something that is too apparent in nature. What I mean is that any adult who is given a phone in the guest mode will easily be able to come to know that they do not have the full access to the phone. In cultures (like India), it will be considered very rude in case I lent a phone to another user in Guest Mode. Also, what do you do when you Dad asked you for your phone, you surely cannot give him in Guest Mode (this will make him more suspicious).
This was the practical challenge when I decided to make an app for myself, the app that I have been using is similar to an app locker. However, it has been added with a screen lock as well. I chose two different types of passwords (one master and another guest). The app allows me to chose all the applications that I consider private and want to be locked (such as emails, whatsapp, other chats, picture gallery etc). When I unlock my screen using the master password, the screen gets unlocked and all protected apps get unlocked as well. When I give my phone to someone else, I just give them my guest password. The screen gets unlocked normally using the guest password, however, all the protected apps continue to be locked. This helps me easily give my phone to others.
When I gave the app to my friends, the kind of response that I received was overwhelming. So launched it for public as well. You can download the app for free from Google Play. Just search for Pluggdd on Google Play, it is the only app on Pluggdd as the developer.
Looking forward to feedback from you all developers on what is missing in the app and what more features can I add.
The new Guest Mode of Android L is a dissapointment
Hi All,
Even I was waiting very eagerly for this version of Android and the Guest Mode feature. There are a lot of times when my kid uses the phone or some one borrows the phone to make a call. With the battery life of smartphones being so small these days, people borrowing phones is common.
However, I was always worried what all they may see on my phone once I loan it to them. The same was when my kid was using the phone. Once he clicked a picture of mine and sent to a random whatsapp group.
However, I must say that the new Guest Mode feature does not meet my expectations. There are a few reasons why:
1) The switch from Normal Mode to Guest Mode is not seamless. You need to get to Settings (which is a two step procedure), then go to 'Users' and from there switch on the Guest Mode. This easily takes a few seconds.
2) The switching of user takes more than 2-3 seconds.
3) Anyone can easily find that they are in Guest Mode (because the phone is completely empty, no history of calls, no phone numbers, virtually nothing). As a result of which apart from a kid, anyone can tell that you have switched modes of the phone. With the kind of friends and colleagues that I have, that would raise more suspicion and leg pulling than giving them the phone in full access.
I was always looking forward to this solution. However, I think I will continue to use the app that I have been using. The app locks all my applications that I deem need to be protected. It gives me two passwords to unlock the screen. When I open the lock screen with a master password, the screen gets unlocked as well as all the locked applications get unlocked too. When I lend my phone to someone, I open the screen using a guest password and only the screen and unprotected apps get unlocked. All the protected apps, such as my emails, chats, facebook; continue to be locked. This is so much of a relief, as the no one comes to know that they do not have full access to the phone. What I have read on their page is that they are also coming up with a fake crash in Guest Mode, that would be lovely.
In case you are interested, you can get the app for free from Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pluggdd.SmartAppLocker).

[Request] Lockscreen/Pin related

i'm looking for a specific type of app that i cant find anywhere in the playstore and i did my fair share of testing. This app would enable the lock screen to recognize two pins. One would be the normal pin you enter when you want to unlock the phone and the secondary pin when entered would trigger a series of security protocols like wipe all data on the phone ,erase all contacts and sms apps etc. Is there such an app? If not, then this would make a great idea for an app. I know i'd pay for it. Thanks in advance.
There are no such apps right now .
But you may try something like android device manager or mcAffee which provides online accessibility to your device for wiping data, fact. reset etcetera .
Or , instead of writing/requesting here , you may contact your favorite lock screen app developer and simply request to then to implement your idea on it . They will add it without any doubt

There's not an exact match to your requirements always but still on the half way down there are some apps which you may try & deal accordingly.
I would recommend you to use
1. Smart Applock
2. Theftie
3. Cm Applock.
Out of these you may select the one you feel comfortable with.
Hope you find this useful...

Have you tried Smart Applock...
Then look for a feature of lock screen setting which allow you to have 2 passwords for the lockscreen & also has the feature of siren when password feeded wrong & mailing an image as well as video of the person trying to gain unauthorized access to your device. Also it provide wipe & lock feature.
Talking about other apps they also function the same but don't have a feature of multiple password.
I hope next time you try the apps first & then post such a reply....
Moreover I strictly mentioned that the exact requirements are not be found with these apps & user must look accordingly as per the available features.

Ok. By now i understand there is no such app so let me tell you why all of the above do not work for me.
We all store more and more sensitive info on our phones,we make payments with the phone we have banking apps installed ,private emails and so on.All the above apps are great apps if your phone is stolen, but full of flaws.you can take out the sim card and that's it.What do you do if someone forces you to enter the pin and then disappear with the phone wallet etc?in the time it takes you to go home and remote wipe the phone they already have everything that was on the phone. All those apps are useless and full of flaws in cases like this.

awesome idea! love it
Such an awesome idea. Well executed.
nice app and does its job.. :good:
This is..... The bomb ?
I've been looking for an app like this for years!! Thank you. Google's pinning idea isn't wrong but you're still able to use the complete app like close picture and browse through all folders of the gallery.
Maybe it is possible to integrate this into gallery so it is possible to choose to lock the chosen picture or the folder it is in.
This is what I've been looking for forever. Thanks a lotttttttt
I will try it.
I love the icon.

Interesting question. As far as I can tell you cannot share a folder in android. Still, the app will accept multiple pictures. I think that your gallery might support sharing all photos in an album. If not, you can still go into a folder/album in your gallery or file manager app and select all files there and share them. Most apps offer a way to select all files in the current folder. It should work as long only pictures/Videos are selected. Good luck and I would love to hear if it worked out.

I have taken a better look at this. Some file managers indeed allow you to share a folder, but they first create a zip file, which you can share with others. But as it isn't a picture, it won't work. Simply opening the folder and pressing select all will allow you to share all the pictures with the app and it will work.
For example Google Photos on the other hand indeed doesn't allow this as far as I know. You can use the multi-select feature to quickly select images, but there is no option to share a whole album, so you have to multi-select each photo. Even though you just have to hold down your thumb on the bottom of the screen and it will continue scrolling on it's own, this might take quite some time.
So the answer really depends on what you are using. If you let me know, I can try to find a better way.
Also, thanks to all of you my app skyrocketed to over 2 000 installs within 4 days! This is amazing!
I've tried the app on 3 different devices (Samsung, THL and Asus; 2x 4.4.2, 1x 5.0). On all 3 the "folder sharing" worked fine when using each device's respective stock gallery app. I could even select multiple folders to share. (The only limitation seemed that the folder must not contain too many files. Folders with 300/500 (iirc) pictures could not be shared.)
When using Simple Gallery or QuickPic (old version) on the other hand, I could not find a way to share a folder.
Being able to quickly share a folder is really nice, I have to say. This would probably be my favorite usage scenario for this app.
One problem I do have tho, is that I find the app to be a bit too easy to dismiss. As soon as the home or back button is touched, it's back to the lockscreen. This could get a bit impractical, especially with not so tech-savvy people. If I hand the device to somebody who's not used to smartphones (yes, people like that still exist ) (or a kid) to view, let's say, 30 vacation pictures, it's almost guaranteed that at some point they'll accidentally touch home/return and thereby end SPV. Then they would have to hand the phone back to me, I'd have to unlock the phone, reselect pictures/folder, relock, and hand it back to them so they can view the rest of the pictures...
Imo it either should be a bit harder to leave SVP (like maybe having to double tap/long press home/return) or it needs an easier way back into the SVP-selected pics (without having to unlock).
Also I don't really get why there's an "or pin this app" option. Granted, I'm still mostly using Kitkat, so I'm not really that familiar with the pinning feature. But I was under the impression that your app is supposed to be a better alternative to pinning, so why include it??
(hope I didn't sound too negative here really no offense meant)

You need to go to your gallery and share a picture from there (or any other place that can share pictures). Besides facebook, whatsapp and so on there will be secure photo viewer.

I was away for a long time and also needed some time to look into the folder sharing, but I couldn't find a solution that works on newer versions on android. The home button also can't be overridden for security reasons, but there is definitely something I can do to make it relaunch after closing, or at least offer the user an option to do so.
App pinning solves this too, as a pinned app can't be closed by the home or back button. So if you pin an app, you basically can use only this app unless you unpin it and unlock the device. If you pin your gallery, others can still go back and look at other pictures because it's the same app (gallery). If you pin the SPV instead, they won't be able to see anything else as they can only access the SPV and it only shows the selected photos.
