Hi amigos,
I do have HTC explorer, My office have a policy on employees to use only non-camera moblie phones. So I need a solution to this,is there any app available in market to disable the camera with out rooting. I browsed in play store, and I do got an app,but it works only on ICS platform. Pls suggest me any remedy pls..
Thanks,
Viki
Without rooting, I don't think so, sorry. You can block access to the app, requiring a passcode, but if you know the passcode, then it's not really much different to having the app there normally, plus it wastes battery.
Any app available?
Thanks for the reply SifJar. Is there any app which popups an error message kinda like that, if I tap to open camera. Since the one who gonna checking all this will be the security incharge in the gates, he lacks knowledge on android and stuffs.

hi
try this root ur phone and use root explorer and see if u can delete the camera .apk.But make sure to take a backup of the same so u can use the same if needed in the future and at bangalore i have seem that some companies allow u to put a sticker on the camera lens to close it and thus not use the same in the company premises chek with ur co if this is OK it would be a better solution if this is acceptable:laugh:
Any other remedy without rooting
I was using ma phone by sticking a sticker over the camera till now, but the admin security over ma office found many were using kinda like that.so now

Actually, now that I think about it, it should be possible, yes.
There is an app called "Tasker" which allows you to run certain actions whenever certain things happen. One of the "contexts" you can set is an app being launched (e.g. the camera app). This context will then trigger a set of actions, which can include a whole variety of things from returning to the home screen to displaying a custom made popup. You could combine these two, so that whenever the camera is launched, it will return to the home screen and then display a popup saying some error.
There is a free one week trial of Tasker available here: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/download.html (any tasks you create during that first week will continue to work after this time, you just won't be able to add any more without paying for the full version, which is available in the Play Store or via the same link as the trial)
Once you install the trial, download the attached file, remove the .txt extension (put it there as XDA doesn't allow upload of XML files) and put it on your SD card in the folder "profiles" inside "Tasker" on your SD card, then import it into Tasker by long pressing on the button "profiles" at the top and then selecting "import" and then choose "Camera Disable". It is a task I made which I think should do the trick for you. If you want to edit the error message, tap on "No Access" in Tasker (should have a green arrow at it), then tap on "2. Popup" and edit the text accordingly.
EDIT: Also note that disabling the task is as simple as tapping the green tick beside it's name in Tasker, which will turn it into a red circle with a line through it to represent the task is disabled and camera can now be accessed again.
The error will also appear when launching "Camcorder".
Couldnt you get away with just hiding the camera app, that way you can easily say that you deleted it.

You're very mean or you have the wrong phones for your staff...
I don't know if I should tell you this...
Because the Google Launcher is open source you can modify it to remove options like screens, settings etc... but... they can always root it or download another launcher from the Market.
There are no system-level policies in Android for the behavior you're looking for.
Wrong phone really.

xD i know we have used for 7 years RUggedized pda's now with WM and now we received 5 ruggedized pda with android for testing purposes. but is there really nothing like an app with what we can do that? because i am not so good at programming and dont want to modify the source and etc self.
they can't root it yet ( this are industrial pda's )

No app... you can get an app to password protect apps but that would be a pain to set up and maintain...
Also, you'd need to:
1. Prevent root
2. Prevent market
3. Prevent side loading of apps
4. Use a custom/modified launcher
^^^ And the manufacturers and carriers can't even do all of this...
This would be almost impossible unless you had a (very) customised rom. This would cost min €40k - €50k I would think (for commercial purposes), depending on the handset and level of modification/testing required. You would also have to pay for updates no doubt.
But what are you actually trying to prevent? There may be a better way.
E.g. there's no point in spending money restricting the "Calculator" app if you get my point?
i got ur point yes ,
apps i need to block are everything except the points i posted in first post. market is not installed standard because business rom. root is hard i think because nobody support that? or even take the time for that kinda pda? non consumer phones.
maybe other solution is it possible to autostart an app? cuz we can secure it to exit only with an admin pin and make inside the app a few buttons with mail / navigation
thanks for the info i will contact manufacturer about this point.

Well, if you really want to restrict it... then you could use your app as the Launcher, and include icons for other apps in your app/launcher and remove Launcher2.apk.
Still won't prevent somebody side-loading another launcher but it will appear very restricted and you would have to "hack" it to change it. This would be against your company policy to hack (?) so you could be okay.
ok thank you
removed launcher2.apk with terminal. they can try to hack it or take an loader by itself but in a few weeks Soti Mobi controll comes for Android support so we can look what they do, and they know that cuz we use it at WM also at the moment.

i'm looking for a specific type of app that i cant find anywhere in the playstore and i did my fair share of testing. This app would enable the lock screen to recognize two pins. One would be the normal pin you enter when you want to unlock the phone and the secondary pin when entered would trigger a series of security protocols like wipe all data on the phone ,erase all contacts and sms apps etc. Is there such an app? If not, then this would make a great idea for an app. I know i'd pay for it. Thanks in advance.
There are no such apps right now .
But you may try something like android device manager or mcAffee which provides online accessibility to your device for wiping data, fact. reset etcetera .
Or , instead of writing/requesting here , you may contact your favorite lock screen app developer and simply request to then to implement your idea on it . They will add it without any doubt

There's not an exact match to your requirements always but still on the half way down there are some apps which you may try & deal accordingly.
I would recommend you to use
1. Smart Applock
2. Theftie
3. Cm Applock.
Out of these you may select the one you feel comfortable with.
Hope you find this useful...

Have you tried Smart Applock...
Then look for a feature of lock screen setting which allow you to have 2 passwords for the lockscreen & also has the feature of siren when password feeded wrong & mailing an image as well as video of the person trying to gain unauthorized access to your device. Also it provide wipe & lock feature.
Talking about other apps they also function the same but don't have a feature of multiple password.
I hope next time you try the apps first & then post such a reply....
Moreover I strictly mentioned that the exact requirements are not be found with these apps & user must look accordingly as per the available features.

Ok. By now i understand there is no such app so let me tell you why all of the above do not work for me.
We all store more and more sensitive info on our phones,we make payments with the phone we have banking apps installed ,private emails and so on.All the above apps are great apps if your phone is stolen, but full of flaws.you can take out the sim card and that's it.What do you do if someone forces you to enter the pin and then disappear with the phone wallet etc?in the time it takes you to go home and remote wipe the phone they already have everything that was on the phone. All those apps are useless and full of flaws in cases like this.
There are 3 ways to launch apps-contacts-OkGoogle pages (what is official name of pages?)
Please don't use swipe-to-the-left from right edge for lauching them.
Just use a tap or say Ok-Google.
If you use swipe, your underlying clock is still working underneath.
Time calc.
Bitmap manipulations
Or communicating with companion app using Data API
Or just simple drawing digital fonts
Or various weather/battery/calendar/fittness things
And some apps like Cardiograph may cause silent working of your clock. I dont' know, You dont know, even Google dont know what app will do.
My simple guess is Cardiograph app seems to use OpenGL?
Google unofficially said its not a bug. it may be a feature!
It may be not a big deal, but waste is a waste.
Until this will be fixed, as possible as you can, please use TAP or OK-GOOGLE, not SWIPE.
Am I right in saying you swipe left open the app background apps may work, so?
It is not like I have battery life issues.
Using voice commands to open apps works for me only if I can remember the name of the app I want to open, I often need to find the app shortcut then open it.
Hi, Note 5 and S6 EDGE+ both have a problem. It defaults a program to the first app you select. I used to be able to click a number and android would as me to choose my VIOP or RC "just once" Now every things is set to "always"There used to be an option to only use it once. Is there any way I can fix this without rooting?
I would also like to know this too

It's weird for sure. Seems like only sharing from certain apps like the gallery and Internet browsers give this option. But this app helped: app picker classic. It's in the play store. It's not ideal but it's working for me. If you share and choose this app the first time it will add all your other options for each consecutive time.

Problem it most of the these kind of apps don't open or get all the apps you want.
I am working with the developer "better open with". He said there is a bug.
I don't think this is a bug but it's the way the new touch wiz was made.
I'm also wondering why they've removed this feature. And is there any way around it without root?

I swear I love Samsung but they do some of the dumbest sh!t. LG also removed that feature from some of their devices. What the heck are these manufacturers thinking? What on God's green earth makes them think that you want to handle one type of file the same way everytime? Sometimes I want to open a link with one browser and open another link with another browser because maybe that specific browser works better with that particular websites. I love the just once. Constant clearing defaults is fuking worst than selecting between just one and always.

I have this same problem on my S5 mini. PLEASE tell me there is a solution by now? This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. So I send something once to Opera mini because I need to save on data usage and now I am forever stuck with websites opening in Opera Mini and looking like terrible. On Kitkat I NEVER used to select "always" on anything, for choice and security reasons.. Now I cannot.

I have this but it is only for things programmed into the app. I cannot scan an NFC thing and it always come up do I want to use "Tag" or "NFC Reader" or "xyz". Because the app does not know about this "type". It's good to protect and provide choice for websites and images and things but it is not perfect. Why would samsung/google mess this up? Not only is it stupidly inconvenient but it is less secure because now something like a website or any other thing just goes on it's merry way automatically opening and executing with an app all the time, instead of the usual thing where I have the choice to press always, just this once or oh yeah just press the back button to cancel the attempt from the start.
I am not happy with the loss of this functionality.

One of the workarounds I found for sharing or opening links with different apps was to select "Copy to Clipboard" option when you select the default app for the first time after clearing your old defaults and then go to your target app and paste from clipboard. It's definitely not as straightforward as selecting "Always" vs "One time only" but still better than clearing out defaults after every use for me.
This is actually incredibly annoying. Sometimes I open Youtube videos in Youtube, sometimes I open them in my VLC Remote Control, sometimes I open them in Flyperlink....how this functionality went away is beyond me....frigging Samsung.
Better Open With will have to do for now, thanks for the link.
Have you ever handed over your phone to someone just so they can see the latest meme or the cool picture you took? I have made a way to do this without being concerned what they will do on your phone. With this app, they will only be able to see what you select.
Get it on the Play Store
Get it on Labs
How to use:
1) Make sure that you have some kind of lock screen. Pin, Password, Fingerprint, whatever
2) Go to your gallery, select some photos or videos and tap share.
3) Select the Secure Photo Viewer
And you are done! As soon as you press your lock button, the photos will pop up. Your friends won't be able to get into your phone until you unlock it again.
If you have any questions of feedback feel free to contact me in any way!

Such an awesome idea. Well executed.

This is..... The bomb ?
I've been looking for an app like this for years!! Thank you. Google's pinning idea isn't wrong but you're still able to use the complete app like close picture and browse through all folders of the gallery.
Maybe it is possible to integrate this into gallery so it is possible to choose to lock the chosen picture or the folder it is in.
This is what I've been looking for forever. Thanks a lotttttttt
I will try it.

Interesting question. As far as I can tell you cannot share a folder in android. Still, the app will accept multiple pictures. I think that your gallery might support sharing all photos in an album. If not, you can still go into a folder/album in your gallery or file manager app and select all files there and share them. Most apps offer a way to select all files in the current folder. It should work as long only pictures/Videos are selected. Good luck and I would love to hear if it worked out.

I have taken a better look at this. Some file managers indeed allow you to share a folder, but they first create a zip file, which you can share with others. But as it isn't a picture, it won't work. Simply opening the folder and pressing select all will allow you to share all the pictures with the app and it will work.
For example Google Photos on the other hand indeed doesn't allow this as far as I know. You can use the multi-select feature to quickly select images, but there is no option to share a whole album, so you have to multi-select each photo. Even though you just have to hold down your thumb on the bottom of the screen and it will continue scrolling on it's own, this might take quite some time.
So the answer really depends on what you are using. If you let me know, I can try to find a better way.
Also, thanks to all of you my app skyrocketed to over 2 000 installs within 4 days! This is amazing!
I've tried the app on 3 different devices (Samsung, THL and Asus; 2x 4.4.2, 1x 5.0). On all 3 the "folder sharing" worked fine when using each device's respective stock gallery app. I could even select multiple folders to share. (The only limitation seemed that the folder must not contain too many files. Folders with 300/500 (iirc) pictures could not be shared.)
When using Simple Gallery or QuickPic (old version) on the other hand, I could not find a way to share a folder.
Being able to quickly share a folder is really nice, I have to say. This would probably be my favorite usage scenario for this app.
One problem I do have tho, is that I find the app to be a bit too easy to dismiss. As soon as the home or back button is touched, it's back to the lockscreen. This could get a bit impractical, especially with not so tech-savvy people. If I hand the device to somebody who's not used to smartphones (yes, people like that still exist ) (or a kid) to view, let's say, 30 vacation pictures, it's almost guaranteed that at some point they'll accidentally touch home/return and thereby end SPV. Then they would have to hand the phone back to me, I'd have to unlock the phone, reselect pictures/folder, relock, and hand it back to them so they can view the rest of the pictures...
Imo it either should be a bit harder to leave SVP (like maybe having to double tap/long press home/return) or it needs an easier way back into the SVP-selected pics (without having to unlock).
Also I don't really get why there's an "or pin this app" option. Granted, I'm still mostly using Kitkat, so I'm not really that familiar with the pinning feature. But I was under the impression that your app is supposed to be a better alternative to pinning, so why include it??
(hope I didn't sound too negative here really no offense meant)

I was away for a long time and also needed some time to look into the folder sharing, but I couldn't find a solution that works on newer versions on android. The home button also can't be overridden for security reasons, but there is definitely something I can do to make it relaunch after closing, or at least offer the user an option to do so.
App pinning solves this too, as a pinned app can't be closed by the home or back button. So if you pin an app, you basically can use only this app unless you unpin it and unlock the device. If you pin your gallery, others can still go back and look at other pictures because it's the same app (gallery). If you pin the SPV instead, they won't be able to see anything else as they can only access the SPV and it only shows the selected photos.
