[6.0.1] Audible won't start - SD Card required - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I just installed Cyanogenmod 13 on my wifes phone (Moto G 2nd Gen) and used the SD-Card as internal storage instead of multimedia.
Everything seems to be working fine, except that Audible throws the following error message:
"SD Card required - Please make sure the SD card is mounted in your device."
I tried Google and this seems to be an extremely rare problem, making me wonder if it's just because I use the SD card for internal storage or if it is something more serious.
Thank you in advance!
Cheers,
Markus

try a different card, try the card in a pc to see if it works, format the card in the phone, reboot the phone.

Thanks for the reply!
Somehow we got it to work after ignoring the issue, installing some more apps and rebooting a couple of times.
I was really scared there for a while because I really couldn't find a lot about this issue.
Thanks again! :fingers-crossed:

Its an permissions issue. Settings, apps, audible, Permissions, switch to allow storage..job done.

[Q] Strange SD card problem??

Hey guys
I have Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9003, and I am using the vold.fstab mod for swapping the internal Sd card for the external. I have every thing running fine. But I noticed a strange problem. When I open applications, it seems like the memory card gets mounted in read-only mode, as when I try to use any file explorer to remove files, it cannot delete until I either use root explorer with mounting as R/W mode, or rebooting the device. If so, things get fixed, but after some use, the problem recurs. Besides, I noticed that while the problem is active, the gallary opens empty with a message showing up "No SD card detected". Otherwise, and even with the problem is active, apps open normally and flawlessly, but unable to write files or delete them. Rebooting always fixes the problem.
Any idea why this is happening?
BTW, the card is very new and healthy, and opens perfectly with card reader on windows, and sends and receives files to and from the computer very fast, and it is 16 GB.
Thank you
I solved that problem after months of research... You see, the problem is corruption... The explanation is very very complicated so I am giving you the things you need to do to fix that read only problem...
(Should be done by steps)
1. Put your sdcard in a card reader (recommended) and use chkdsk /r (if you are using windows)... Or simply go to drive properties and go to error checking, check all the boxes and start scanning until finish... Put your card back to the phone... Check if the problem still persisit... If it still persist, do step 2...
2. Backup all files to your computer... Reboot your phone to recovery mode and use the format sdcard option in the mount and storage menu... Restore all data afterwards.. If it still persist, do step 3..
3. Believe it or not, some files in your sdcard are causing a data corruption (This was my issue).. The only fix for this is to find out what files are corrupted... Mostly, the directory that contains these files are from:
sdcard/Android/
sdcard/Gameloft/
sdcard/data/
sdcard/lost.dir/
Do step 2 first... When attempting to restore the files back to your sdcard, do not include this directories... This will more likely solve your problem...
4. Some tweaks such as sdcard speed tweak and other sdcard related tweaks in init.d folder is causing this problem... Try to boot your phone without them and see if it works....
Thank you very much.
I really have some gameloft games installed and believe it or not, the problem is almost always occurring when I open these games !!
I will try your solution and inform you of the results .
BTW, what if the problem is caused by the files of these games? And what if the problem recurred after restoring these files? Is there a permanent fix for that?
Thank you

It seems like it's SD card problem, although it's new!!
I was playing on a game installed on USB Storage, and all of a sudden the game became unresponsive. I then forced reboot the device, and when restarted, SD became unavailable!! I went to "SD and storage" settings and both SD card and USB storage give "Unavailable". Pressing on "Mount SD card" does not work! Formatting is not working!!
Any suggestions guys??

BTW, I remind you that I am using the vold.fstab mod, gingerbread version. I tried to install another SD from my friend's phone that is working fine in his AT&T Galaxy S i9000, but once done, it gives me "USB Storage damaged" !!!!!!!

Seems like I lost my SD card
It opens normally in Windows, and I could back it up. When I delete all files, it gives that they were deleted. But when I eject it and reinsert it, the files are not removed
Neither formatting nor chkdsk in Windows work
GParted gives "Unable to open /dev/... as read-write (file system read-only)"
Any suggestions??

do you mind to post a screen short by command mount in adb shell?
Actually, I took the memory card back to the reseller, and they changed it for another working one. I just dont know why would all of this happen! The card is new, but there were problems preceding its damage, like the aforementioned problem of read-only!!

It seems that I forgot to mention regarding a bad sdcard.. Some issues are appearing because your card is either damaged or is badly made... Glad to hear your problem solved...

Actually, during searching for a solution for my problem, some websites suggested the following:
1- if your card gives you that it is read only, try to use micro SD adapter, and put the lock half way between the locking position and the unlocking one, th en try to perform chkdsk, followed by formatting attempt.
2- if formatting has failed, try to use GParted (bootable live disk is available online and can be downloaded).
Your internal SD will subsequently be recovered once the external is recovered, or simply, put a new external SD of whatever size, and you will regain access to your internal SD, and thats supposing you are using vold.fstab mod
Please let us know of the results , hopefully it works with you

internal sd card wont mount

I was going to post this in the AOKP rom page but i figured it'd get seen more here and maybe its not even a problem related to the rom. I recently installed the AOKP rom located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831858. everything was great the first day then i started getting random reboots and losing my data. So I flashed a back up and still got the same problems. I lost my data yesterday, fixed that by manually changing the APN settings and everything was fine other than still getting random reboots. today I went to take a picture and it says "no external storage". I opened root explorer and I can access my EXTERNAL SD card but not the INTERNAL. I tried to mount in via the setting, storage menu and it wont mount. Also tried mounting in CWM recovery, no dice.
Is this a hardware problem or something software related? Anyway to get my stuff back or is it gone? I thought about trying to format it through recovery but how can I do that if it wont mount? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm about to go through and install a "clean" copy of this ROM hopefully. Or I might try another ROM I know works like it should.
Installed a new Rom. Everything works perfect so far but still can't access my internal sd card. Any tricks how to get this back or do I need to just turn it in for warranty?

Warranty may be your best solution, you'll have to revert to stock using kies/odin which may on it's own fix your issue.
Are you also receiving the "Blank USB storage or has unsupported file system" error?
I have been battling this issue for a friend of mine (I own only the I9300) and I believe I have somewhat of a fix. It will allow you to use an external SD card.
If you can use / access the external SD card on your phone then disregard this message.
If you can't access any of the storage, including the external SD card try following this short tutorial I made:

Im still able to use my external sd card. I can read and write to it from both phone and pc.

The internal SD card is essentially part of the motherboard. If it's corrupted, you have no choice but to warranty the phone out. Kishke's right in that restoring to stock might be your last, best chance.

Internal Memory/Internal SD issue

Hi.
Today when I rebooted my OPO, my phone seems to be partially unable to read my internal storage or something. Swiftkey notifies me the error of unable to store language pack, EverNote prompts me that SD card has been changed/removed. Worst of all, I am unable to take pictures with my Camera or even screenshots. When I try to take a picture, it says "Please insert an SD card before using the camera."
As we all know, the OPO does not come with an external SD card slot, so what is the issue with my internal memory/internal SD? I am still able to access my songs and e-books which are stored in my 'internal SD' though.
Would appreciate if anyone knows how to overcome this issue.. I've tried to recover data a week back using TWRP and re-booted the phone countless times to no avail.

Update: When I attempted to download an app from the Google Playstore or through an APK file, it says "Storage is full." even though I have 32GB of space left.
Helpp! This is getting aggravating and is leading to more problems.
Same problem happened to me; did a factory reset now phone stuck on cyanogen logo screen and phone will not boot to anything. Next phone will have to have an SD card. I have backups but some recent information was not backed up.

Holy shizz... I thought of trying to factory reset to see if it solves the problem. So basically your phone is sorta bricked? Are you gonna send it back for warranty/check the problem at a local hardware shop?

The same is happening to me.
Any solution?

"SD Card safe to remove" "Preparing SD card" over and over again.

Hi fellows, sorry to bother you i always try to manage to solve all problems on my own (researching) but there no info on the subject.
A bit of history: im the happy owner of an MT7-L09 since last month. I bought it with a Sandisk Ultra 32gb micro sd class10. I've been using the phone without any problems. Didnt even tried to root it.
What i actually did was to set up the SD card as a the default memory location. I dont actually really know what this does apart from saving all media in the SD (mainly google play music, photos and videos i shoot with the camera, some big obb files, etc).
Last week i downloaded oficial Lollipop 5.1.1 release and did a manual update. All good, i kept on using it without any problems (aside from considerably lower battery life) for a couple of days.
Then i decided to gain root access. I followed this steps after googling for help.
I gained root access but after this, it keeps looping between "sd card safe to remove" and "preparing sd card" as long as my sd card is in its slot.
After that i:
Got SD card out, used a PC to backup contents (no damages), gave it a quick format in windows fat32, then format in android. PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE
Then i went back to the pc and gave the card a slow full fat32 format, then format again in andoird. PROBLEM STILL HERE
I also recently bought an action cam with the same SD model. Got that one out and placed it straight into the phone replacing the other. SAME TYPE of SD HERE, SAME MODEL. PROBLEM PERSISTS.
I think it might be related to flashing a recovery or something like that while i had my sd card as default memory location. I really dont know what to do to ger it read any of my SD cards again.
Shall i flash original kit kat firmware again? maybe 5.1.1 again and loose root access? I couldnt find any information regarding this issue rather than try another SD card which i already did (the problem surfaced after the process of gaining root access).
Any clues?
Thaks
Sebastian
I just started having this problem today. I have been on the official 5.1.1 since it launched and never came across any issue until this morning. I never ever rooted or flashed anything custom and the boot loader is still locked.
As of today I started having this issue, looping between "SD card safe to remove" and "Preparing SD card" however I am able to access the SD Card and intervals. The SD Card works perfectly fine on any other device.
One thing I changed recently (2 days ago) is the default memory location, I set it to SD Card, so I am going to revert that setting back to Internal Memory and see if it fixes the issue. Thanks for the tip
If anyone else has come across this issue and/or knows how to fix it please help
UPDATE: I tried reverting the default location setting back to "Internal storage" and found that the setting had already reverted back automatically, presumably because the SD Card is not always available So no luck with that. I am starting to suspect it's a hardware issue!
UPDATE 2: I left the SD Card in the device and connected it to the PC in order to take a backup using HiSuite. As soon as I plugged it in the error stopped cropping up. I finished the backup, unplugged the USB and so far the "SD card safe to remove" and "Preparing SD card" did not show up again. It's been over an hour now. Yesterday I plugged in the device to my PC in order to copy some pictures so something may have happened at that point I'm suspecting.

Now that you mention Hi Suite, i played arround a bit with it before the error appeared. im gonna give it a shot
I've done that the root and installed the recovery and microSD goes into loop does not know what to do help ..
Mine is still steady after a few days, hope you fix yours too [emoji6]

Solved. It must be some issue caused by HiSuite. I connected, made full backup, safely extracted SD from computer and problem seems to have ceased.
Thanks
Sebastian
I got this problem today after reflashing stock recovery.
It disappears after remove and reinsert sd card, but after a reboot problem was still there.
Now I solved checking debug usb setting, because after recovery flash it has been disabled itself.
I have this problem but with the USB storage device, I bought a new one which has two plugs, one is usb the other is micro, to transfer from laptop to phone without cables. It works on PC, it works on my husband's Huawei Mate 7, but just loops on mine. Other USB storage work fine on my phone with cable, but this new one just loops "preparing to connect" and " USB removed", even when trying to connect with cable.
All software is up to date, no modifications have been made.
Any simple ideas would be appreciated (I'm not into flashing/rooting etc!)

SD card stuck on checking

Hi guys,
I have a samsung sm-t520 which I recently resurrected with lineage os 14.1-20190104-Nightly-n2awifi. I think everything installed correctly, but after I inserted my sd card I put it as an internal storage. Later on I honestly don't know what happened, but the card wasn't being seen by the os. I am getting an sd card checking... I just wiped the system, it recognized the card for a second but after I selected format as portable, I got to where I was in the first place with sd card checking stuck. And nothing happens. I tried formatting the card through pc, but it couldn't (unable to format, I even tried with disk manager). There's nothing on the card, I tried to format in twrp but depending what I do it gives me error 1 after failed formatting. I'm not sure what I can do with it. It's a 64gb card. When I try to change the file type on the sd card twrp just keeps working on it and then it reboots to the os normally. (I'm not sure now if it's not happening randomly, really frustrating)
Help much appreciated.

Here is a method discovered by another member here to fix a corrupted sdcard that was used as adoptable storage.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/corrupted-sd-card-adoptable-storage-t3801250
For future reference, adoptable storage has to be reversed before factory resetting or reflashing the device, then you have to go through the adoptable storage setup again.
In my opinion(many others would agree), using adoptable storage or any other similar feature that uses external as internal is not worth the hassle and exposes your important data to corruption very easily. Also, when using adoptable storage, the device will not boit if the sdcard is removed or corrupted. It can even cause the device not function at all.

Thank you for the information. Well, I have worked with Linux last time maybe 10 years ago so I don't really understand what is happening in this post. Is there a translation available anywhere to windows? ddrescue is available on everything but windows from what I'm seeing - great... Also, is there just a way to reset the card so I can use it in an automated way?
