So recently in our area cellular services are blocked from time to time due to security measures. Now the really annoying thing is that my phone does not automatically catch signals when the service is back and when I reboot they are back. I have tried switching back and forth from airplane mode but to no avail it just needs a reboot. Infact yesterday when the services were back my data connection started working but there were no signals in the status bar and I couldnt make a call.
What could be the problem? I am running rooted stock rom 4.1.2 with matrix kernel. Or is this possibly a problem with the cellular company?
What version nexus s do you have? What radio is running?

Its the i9023. Radio I dont know but I have never fiddled with this stuff so I suppose its stock radio. Only think I have done is root and custom kernel.
I used to have this problem, wanna know what happenned? My NS died (hard brick).
Most likely won't happen to yours.
The solution might be to flash a new radio that is compatible with the i9023. Radio's can alter your network performance and signal quality. If you're interested, here is a thread with different radio's:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884. Remember to always backup before flashing, and you can revert to your old radio by flashing it. To check your current radio, go to setting-->about phone, and look for baseband version.
An alternative is to try to flash a new rom, if you dont want to flash a radio.
Another alternative is a factory reset.
BUT, there is a possibility that our phones are designed like that, and none of these solutions will work.
Good luck! keep me updated
I have the KI1 radio. Well I asked a friend with an Iphone 4 and he says it "sometimes" happens with his phone as well so I suppose it's not something completely abnormal.
I don't actually have any signal problem apart from this issue. I never have to restart phone to get signals unless this specific timed ban on cellular services happen, I don't lose signals with some regular very short problem with network. I suppose it's just better to live with it than flashing new radios?
I might flash a custom rom soon so the factory reset solution will be tested then.
Did your Nexus S just randomly died? How do you suppose it had something to do with this problem?

I don't think it has to do with the problem, but i never found a solution because it died. Let me know how the new rom goes!

Also, a radio flash isn't that bad, but if it's out of your comfort area, that's cool

Btw there was also another problem that I didnt mention. Sometimes my phone refuses to turn on data connection and it only comes back with a reboot. This ONLY happens very rarely when I switch from wifi to data and never happens after data connection has started.
Did you have this problem? I just switched to CM10 yesterday and it has once happened so far but its not related to the ROM since it very rarely happened before as well.
I actually did have this problem! With my old ns. How long have you had this phone?

Its about 6 months old. I am experiencing this problem more whenever wifi is on for an extended period, so far I have had it 3 times with CM10.
I went back and forth to airplane mode and it started working so atleast didnt need to reboot.
I think this could be a 4.1.2 problem for me as I dont remember this happening previously.
Maybe try an ICS ROM?

I've had a strange issue with my Blaze lately, I'm on the latest version of CM10 with the UVMB1 modem. For some reason texts will drop sometimes. It doesn't seem to happen often or consistently, I'll fire off the text, it will say that it was delivered, and then I'll find out like a day or two later that it never sent. Really frustrating, wondering if anyone else has had the same issue and if so what the fix is for it?

Ha that's funny. I just went back to stock (by far the best battery life based on how I use my phone) and I am getting random people calling me saying that I just called them. It appears someone has a grudge against me and is spoofing my number. Sad thing is that this happened a year ago and so many random people were calling me I had to change my number to make it stop.
Personally I'm starting to think it's related to wifi calling, as after I changed my number I ran exclusively 4.1.x with no wifi calling without this issue and 2 days after going to stock with using wifi calling it's happening again...
I guess what I'm trying to say is a few dropped texts isn't as bad as you might think...
You could always try a different radio. I use the s2's UVMC6 radio and it gets me reception that i never had before. I was also getting double texts and this radio stopped that as well. Here's the link to a flashable zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31769119

I've heard about that and thought it might be a good idea, how is battery life with that radio? Have you noticed any glitches with it?

No difference in battery life. No glitches. Flashing that radio has only made my phone better. Don't know if it'll help your situation, but worth a try...

Alright thanks for the suggestion man, I'll give it a go and hopefully it will help some!
This is a problem I've had persistently, I'm only just now getting annoyed enough to make a post about it.
When I first got my Nexus, everything was fine and dandy. Around the end of December though, I had this weird problem where Data turns itself off after about three seconds. I can turn it back on and let it turn off again and fight with it to solve the issue, and eventually it will stop and stay on. I figured I'd give the Cyanogenmod build (at the time) a try, and that fixed it, but had it's own problems (namely bluetooth being very horribad) so I swapped back to stock and sure enough, the problem returned. I don't recall if I did a nandroid restore or a fresh install and a titanium backup of my apps at first because I did try both, neither fixing the problem.
Nexus 5 16gig black on AT&T, stock ROM, only rooted. Any extra information can be posted upon request.
-[edit]-
I installed Paranoid Android, I'll update if I still have the issue.
-[edit+]-
Yes, the issue persists. New info is Paranoid Android v 4.2-BETA1. Obviously, hardware info stayed the same.
-[edit++]-
It appears it was an issue with Juice Defender. Will update if issue persists.

Try another ROM that maybe AOSP source built, see if problem is persisting. If so, is data weak in your area for ATT and it sounds very possible your device has a hardware issue if other ROMs don't fix this. I'm running Carbon, no issues ATM. I can guarantee the CM issues and your issue are not present. If you try the ROM, problem persists, then device needs to be fixed for hardware I'd suggest.

It looks like it was an issue with Juice Defender.
Sorry I know I didn't mention that in the OP. :v
I'll post back if the issue continues now that Juice Defender is gone.

It appears that was what it was. I have had zero issues since uninstalling it, which makes me sad. I liked Juice Defender, and have been using it on my phones for several years. :c
Hello guys
I just finished updating my rooted Nexus 5 to 4.4.3 and it went fine but I immidiately noticed some "problems" when I turned it on. The thing is that my touch screen is not as responsive as before 4.4.3 update. On 4.4.2 scrolling was flowy and smooth like on ice, but on 4.4.3 I got big delay (half cm of emptiness) on scrolling through gesture (apps, home or anything..) and, even worse, when I'm scrolling down my Contacts list it dials randomly due to a lagging. Is there any calibration to be done or that's it?

It doesn't sound normal. Mine is working just as smooth as it was on 4.4.2. Have you tried wiping the phone? Do a factory reset and see.

issues here
my battery went from 19% to 0 over night.... in airplane mode. previously, it would only use 3-4% overnight, esp with everything turned off. almost woke up late
also, im having a hard time answering phone calls. i slide to answer, it doesnt answer but its still ringing
I noticed that there is a bunch of different problems reported last two days and I have decided to wait for Google's response on all of this mess. But I must say that my phone is working better now and somehow it heals itself )) Maybe this update is about implementing some organic components

I'm having a lot of issues with my phone.. Seems like an sd card issue. Ant app that uses memory does not work properly... Even the camera does not load...
I'm going to do a factory reset... Any way to save all settings on stock?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I also got a big issue on 4.4.3. since the update i get sponataeuos signal dropouts especially when i travel by bus or train.
It seams the radio has problems by logging out at one cell and switch to an other cell. Also the reception/signal is very weak.
Someone noticed the same? or does anybody has a tip?
thanks in advance :good:
Are you charging your phone simultaneously or is your phone connected to a laptop? remove that and the try. lemme know.

Go to settings > apps > locate google dialer and clear cache
For battery drain, install an app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats (it's free demo version is available on XDA) or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm
Observe your device for one day after complete charge (90+) and use it.
Using that app, you'll observe the apps/wakelocks which are causing unnecessary battery drain. Eliminate them or post screenshots here so that we can help you to solve battery drain issue.

I'm guessing OP's problem is related to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2643097 but this is the first time I have heard the same for Nexus 5.
First thing to do if something is broken after an OTA is factory reset to see if it is an OS bug or whether you have incompatible data and settings.
It sounds like it would be a pain to do, but you can easily backup with helium nowadays so it needn't be

Did you flash the userdata.img? If not, your data is still there and still possibly causing the issue.
GPS not Working
Has anyone else noticed if their GPS is working or not? I was trying to use mine last night and I can see that GPS connects and it brings up the map but then never navigates or even moves from the starting point on the map. Can someone let me know if this is a new problem??? I flashed the N5_4.4.3.zip file that someone pointed me to, as I had asked for a flashable zip file to update to 4.4.3 as I still have not gotten an ota notification from T-Mobile:confused
i have a question also,
what if i like the current mono toned google dialer?
when i get this update & it updates the dialer, is it possible to un-install the dialer update to revert back to the older dialer?

Yes I did. I flashed the image with the 'flash-all.bat' method which includes it [emoji17]
I have a VZW M8 and it seems that after I leave Wi-Fi coverage, my mobile data will stall. I believe it is Wi-Fi disconnect causing the issue because if I leave Wi-Fi off, I haven't noticed the stall.
The only way to regain mobile data is to either restart which works every time, or if I go to mobile data settings and change from LTE to GSM, which works most of the time. Toggling data does not work.
I apologize if this has been discussed before, I searched and found nothing. I am s-off, rooted and running nV Rom. I asked in that forum but got no response. I also ran the GPE rom and had the same issue.
I don't remember this issue when I was stock, but that was such a short time, so I can't be sure.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if they were able to remedy it somehow.
I've had this issue on previous devices and it was usually caused by a specific rom, but many times it had to do with the baseband or even kernel. I know that the GPE roms for the VZW M8 were ports from the unlocked variants so that may have modified something like the baseband. If it's a consistent thing throughout several roms, I would literally go back and flash stock firmware and then reroot to see if that fixed it. That used to do the trick for me.
Worth trying, I'll let you know what I come up with. Thanks
Well, I restored my stock nandroid, but I'm still having the issue. Maybe I will RUU to stock and see what that does for me.
On a side note, could it be one access point causing the issue? I don't remember it happening off of my router at home, but 75% of the time it happens all the time at work.

Actually, try forgetting the access point and then re-add.
I ended up not using Wi-Fi at work for a short time, and then re tried and it worked. Nothing changed, other than I forgot and re-added the network. Worth a try.
